Why Hon. Frank Esenwah Remains the Best Choice for Oshimili North in 2027 — Barr. Okolie

By: Ike Philip Abiagom – Newsbreeze

Community stakeholders in Oshimili North Local Government Area have reaffirmed their confidence in Hon. Frank Esenwah, the member representing Oshimili North Constituency in the Delta State House of Assembly, describing him as the most credible, dependable, and unifying choice ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Speaking in Igbuzo, a community leader, High Chief (Barrister ) Lawrence Okolie Snr. Opala Ezemese – Igbuzo,  condemned recent criticisms of the lawmaker by a small  section of Igbuzo indigenes, describing them as unfair, divisive, and politically insensitive. He  recalled that Igbuzo community held the Oshimili North House of Assembly seat for over 24 uninterrupted years without significant opposition, stressing that equity, fairness, and mutual respect must continue to guide political engagement within the constituency.

Leading the discourse, High  Chief Okolie Snr. stated that Hon. Esenwah, who hails from Illah community, has since assumption of office demonstrated transparency, accountability, and an inclusive approach to representation. According to him, the lawmaker’s style of leadership has promoted unity and even development across all communities in Oshimili North.

Chief  Okolie further emphasized that Hon. Esenwah has maintained a strong personal presence in Igbuzo over the years, living among the people and fostering enduring friendships and professional relationships with prominent indigenes, a factor he said has strengthened trust and cooperation across community lines.

“For more than two decades, the people of Igbuzo occupied this position without interference from other parts of Oshimili North. It is therefore unjust for anyone to begin attacking Hon. Esenwah barely two years into his tenure. He deserves support, encouragement, and cooperation to do more for the people,” one of the leaders remarked.

Reacting to the overwhelming show of confidence, Chief Okolie expressed appreciation to community leaders, particularly the late Distinguished Senator Peter Nwaoboshi, for their steadfast support and belief in Hon. Esenwah prior to his passing. He assured constituents that the lawmaker remains fully committed to fulfilling his campaign promises and deepening development across the constituency.

“Hon. Frank Esenwah is a true servant of the people. He continues to justify the mandate given to him through visible constituency projects, sustained community engagement, and empowerment programmes that directly impact lives. His performance speaks louder than words,” Okolie stated.

He disclosed that several developmental projects are currently ongoing across Oshimili North, including the rehabilitation of rural roads in Achalla-Igbuzo, Ukala, and Illah communities; renovation of classroom blocks and donation of school furniture in Akwukwu-Igbo, Igbuzo, and Atuma; implementation of skill acquisition programmes and youth empowerment grants for small-scale entrepreneurs; and sustained support for women cooperatives to boost rural economic growth.

Chief Okolie also noted that Hon. Esenwah has sponsored and supported key motions in the Delta State House of Assembly aimed at improving education, strengthening infrastructure, and addressing environmental challenges in rural communities.

In a unified appeal, community leaders called on all indigenes of Oshimili North, irrespective of political affiliation or community background, to rally behind Hon. Esenwah in the collective interest of unity, stability, and sustainable development.
“This is not the time for division. Our constituency is experiencing steady progress under the current representation. We must stand together, support our representative, and encourage him to do even more for Oshimili North,” the statement concluded.

With a growing record of performance, inclusiveness, and cross-community acceptance, stakeholders insist that Hon. Frank Esenwah remains the best and most credible choice for Oshimili North as the constituency looks ahead to 2027.

Sir Chuks Okonji (Omelora) Applauds Global Celebration of Prof. Patrick Utomi at 70

By: Ike Philip Abiagom

Sir Chuks Okonji, popularly known as Omelora, has expressed deep appreciation to Nigerians and the international community for the remarkable celebration that marked the 70th birthday anniversary of Professor Patrick Okedinachi Utomi, describing the event as a moment of collective pride for Igbuzo,Delta State, Nigeria at large.

According to Sir Okonji, the birthday celebration was not only colourful and memorable but also a reflection of the global respect and admiration Prof. Utomi has earned over the decades. He noted that technocrats, scholars, policy experts, and eminent personalities from within and outside Nigeria gathered to honour a man whose intellectual contributions and patriotic commitment have left an indelible mark on national and global discourse.
He described Prof. Utomi as a rare gem and a proud son of Igbuzo, whose achievements have brought joy, honour, and global recognition to the sons and daughters of the ancient town.

“Professor Utomi has consistently demonstrated excellence, integrity, and selfless service. His life and works have made every Igbuzo son and daughter proud,” Sir Okonji stated.

He concluded with prayers for God’s continued protection, good health, and long life for the renowned professor, expressing hope that he will remain a source of inspiration and guidance for generations to come.

Oshimili After Nwaoboshi: The Silence of Courageous Leadership

By: Ike Philip Abiagom – Newsbreeze

Distinguished Senator Peter Nwaoboshi

The passing of Distinguished Senator Peter Onyelukachukwu Nwaoboshi has left Oshimili North and Oshimili South grappling with a profound and unsettling leadership vacuum. Beyond the personal loss of a respected statesman, Oshimili has lost a fearless political anchor—one whose presence once provided direction, confidence and protection against external domination.

For years, Senator Nwaoboshi stood as more than an elected representative. He was a courageous and unyielding voice, a leader who confronted political intimidation head-on and resisted undue pressure, regardless of whose interests were threatened. His influence extended beyond Oshimili, earning him respect across political divides. With his exit from the stage, the zone appears politically exposed, uncertain of its footing and weakened in bargaining power.

In the void created by his death, a worrying trend has emerged. Political forces from other zones are increasingly positioning themselves to dictate outcomes in Oshimili, seeking to impose candidates and shape decisions with little regard for the wishes of the people. What once was a zone known for assertive engagement has gradually drifted into silence and accommodation.

Even more troubling is the political culture now taking root. Principle is giving way to compromise, and conviction is being traded for convenience. Oshimili politics, once driven by collective interest and long-term vision, is increasingly shaped by transactional calculations where loyalty is negotiable and silence can be bought. The result is a weakened political consciousness and the erosion of a shared sense of purpose.

Historically, from 1999 to 2023, the Aniocha axis dominated representation in the House of Representatives. Oshimili’s breakthrough in 2023—largely buoyed by the momentum of the Obidient movement—was therefore a significant milestone. While expectations from that representation may not have been fully realised, it would be inaccurate and unfair to suggest that Oshimili lacks capable men and women with the competence, experience and vision to represent the constituency effectively.

The deeper concern lies in the reluctance of key stakeholders within Oshimili to assert their rightful place in the political equation. Since the Senator’s passing, voices that should speak boldly in defence of equity, zoning and fairness have grown faint, particularly in the face of financial inducements. Long-term political interests are being sacrificed on the altar of immediate personal gain.

Across Asaba, Ibusa, Akwukwu-Igbo, Okpanam, Oko, Ebu, Illah, Ukala and Ugbolu, there is no shortage of population, talent or potential. What is scarce is courageous leadership—leaders willing to rise above self-interest and defend the political integrity and future of Oshimili.
Perhaps most concerning is the increasing involvement of Oshimili youths in campaigns designed to restore Aniocha’s dominance in the House of Representatives. Disillusioned and neglected by their own leaders, many young people have become instruments in political strategies that ultimately undermine their collective future.

With Senator Nwaoboshi no longer present to rally, resist and inspire, a critical question hangs in the air: who will step forward to insist, firmly and confidently, that Oshimili still deserves its turn at the national table? Who will challenge entrenched interests and speak boldly in defence of justice, balance and fairness?

This is a defining and difficult moment for Oshimili politics. As the zone stands at a crossroads, one cannot help but wonder how different the present reality might be if the political iroko had not fallen.

It is a title not given lightly, but earned through years of consistent service and selfless commitment to the wellbeing of the people.

When asked whether Pastor Okeze truly deserves such an honour, the answer from the people is unequivocal. In interviews conducted across the community, respondents unanimously affirmed that the name perfectly reflects his contributions.

According to them, Pastor Okeze has done so much for Igbuzo — and continues to do more — that his impact cuts across social class, age, and status. Not only the indigent, but also ordinary residents and families within the town have benefited immensely from his numerous empowerment initiatives.

Widows, youths, women, men, and children alike have felt the positive touch of Pastor Okeze’s benevolence. From educational support and scholarships for students, to youth empowerment programmes and skill-acquisition initiatives, his interventions have opened doors of opportunity and restored hope to countless households.

For many in Igbuzo, it is difficult to identify a segment of the population that has not, in one way or another, benefited from Pastor Idowu Okeze’s generosity. His actions speak louder than words, reflecting a rare blend of faith in action, compassion, and purposeful leadership.

Today, Pastor Idowu Okeze is widely regarded as a God-sent blessing to Igbuzo, a man whose life mission aligns with rebuilding lives, restoring dignity, and empowering the future. The adoption of the name Odozi-Obodo Igbuzo is therefore not just symbolic — it is a sincere acknowledgement of a man whose works continue to repair, uplift, and transform a community.

Indeed, the story of Pastor Idowu Okeze is a powerful reminder that true leadership is measured not by titles held, but by lives touched and communities rebuilt.

Igbuzo’s Hidden World Boxing Champion: Celebrating Lawrence Okolie, Son of the Soil

By: Ike Philip Abiagom

Igbuzo, an ancient town steeped in culture and history in Oshimili North Local Government Area of Delta State, is richly endowed with human capital and immense potential across various fields of endeavour. From academics to public service, entrepreneurship to sports, the town has produced individuals whose impacts resonate far beyond its borders.

Yet, among its illustrious sons whose achievements have echoed on the global stage is a world-class sports figure who remains surprisingly under-celebrated at home — Lawrence Okolie, a British professional boxer of Nigerian descent and a former world boxing champion.

Born on December 16, 1992, in Hackney, London, Lawrence Okolie is a bona fide son of Igbuzo. His father, Barrister Lawrence Okolie Snr., hails from the town and holds the revered traditional title of “Opala Ezemese Igbuzo”, a position that reflects the family’s deep ancestral roots, cultural relevance, and respected standing within the Igbuzo community.

From modest beginnings, Okolie’s rise to global boxing prominence is a compelling story of resilience, discipline, and unwavering determination. Growing up in London, he initially took up boxing as a means of overcoming weight challenges and bullying. What began as a personal effort at self-improvement soon transformed into a professional journey that would propel him to the summit of international boxing.

Inspired by Anthony Joshua’s exploits at the 2012 London Olympic Games, Okolie committed himself fully to the sport. His dedication paid off when he represented Team GB at the 2016 Olympic Games, a milestone that marked his arrival on the world stage. Turning professional in 2017, he steadily rose through the ranks, clinching British, Commonwealth, and European titles before breaking into the elite circle of world champions.

Fondly nicknamed “The Sauce,” the imposing 6-foot-5-inch boxer, renowned for his long reach, tactical discipline, and punching power, captured the WBO Cruiserweight World Title, which he held from 2021 to 2023. In 2024, he further etched his name in boxing history by moving up a division to win the WBC Bridgerweight World Title, cementing his reputation as one of the most formidable fighters of his generation. As of early 2026, Okolie boasts an impressive professional record of 23 wins and just one loss, with a knockout ratio that commands respect across the boxing world.

Despite his remarkable achievements and international acclaim, Lawrence Okolie remains relatively unknown in Nigeria, particularly in Delta State and his ancestral hometown of Igbuzo. This paradox underscores a broader national challenge — the need to reconnect with and celebrate the successes of Nigerians in the diaspora as sources of inspiration, pride, and development at home.

Beyond personal glory, Okolie has continued to express interest in giving back, particularly through initiatives aimed at promoting boxing and youth development, with a growing focus on contributing to the growth of the sport in Nigeria.

As Igbuzo continues to assert itself as a town of promise, excellence, and distinction, the story of Lawrence Okolie stands as compelling evidence of its global footprint. Recognising and celebrating him is not merely an acknowledgement of individual achievement, but a reaffirmation of Igbuzo’s enduring legacy as a cradle of greatness.

Indeed, the world knows Lawrence Okolie as a champion. It is time for Igbuzo, Delta State, and Nigeria to fully embrace him as one of their own — a true son of the soil, proudly carrying the spirit and strength of his people onto the global stage.
