After reading Chucks Erhire’s rather combative riposte titled: “2027: Omo-Agege to Nwaoboshi, Stop Peddling Fake News, Says he will Contest the Governorship Election” which is a rejoinder to an interview granted by Senator Peter Nwaoboshi to multiple media outlets, where the former Senator representing Delta North Senatorial zone in the red chamber clearly stated that he had advised Senator Omo-Agege to reconsider his ambition to contest the 2027 governorship election against incumbent Governor and already endorsed candidate, Rt. Hon. Dr (Elder Sheriff Oborevwori, three things became quite obvious.
They are: first; it’s either Chuks Erhire, a prominent aide to the former Deputy Senate President is being economical with the truth on the matter, or second; he is certainly not privy to the high level engagements which Senator Nwaoboshi alluded to in his interview, especially due to his minion status as a mere aide connotes a lowly lackey whose presence or relevance was totally insignificant or negligible to deserve any confidential briefing subsequently.
The third and apparently most critical, yet indiscretionally unfortunate is the fact that Chuks Erhire, in his frenzied verve to announce his principal’s thinly veiled ambition to contest the 2027 governorship election, certainly did not comprehend the full import and nuances specifically and unequivocally embedded in Senator Nwaoboshi’s illuminating interview.
To put this rejoinder within the proper context of the subject conversation and to equally enlighten Mr. Chuks Erhire who probably must have missed it, Distinguished Senator Peter Nwaoboshi, a former chairman of the Senate Committee on Niger Delta, as he was reported by the various credible media establishments (including the Vanguard Newspaper of August 19, 2025), clearly disclosed that “he had ADVISED Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, the 2023 gubernatorial candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta State, not to contest against Sheriff Oborevwori, the incumbent governor, for the party’s 2027 ticket and he AGREED.”
Nwaboshi further noted that he did not BELIEVE the speculation that Omo-Agege would contemplate contesting against Oborevwori for the Delta APC 2027 gubernatorial ticket, when he requested for a meeting between himself(Sen. Omo-Agege),Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and the APC National Chairman.Even Senator Nwaoboshi and other APC top hierarchy were assiduously working on how to resolve the issue as discussed.
Senator Nwaoboshi said that since he changed his mind after their discussion even as he revealed for emphasis and corroboration that a former state governor was present when he spoke with Senator Omo-Agege at his Abuja residence about his candidacy against Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and that he (Nwaoboshi) had met with Governor Oborevwori, who is the state’s new APC leader, and beseeched him to work harmoniously with Omo-Agege and everybody.
So, it becomes quite incredible and baffling from the above, how Chuks Erhire, as a top aide to Senator Omo-Agege could have completely missed the content and context of the interview. Mr. Erhire categorically stated in his fanciful statement couched as an urgent “update” that: “Senator Peter Nwaoboshi did not have any political rapport with Senator Ovie Omo-Agege with regards to burying his governorship ambition for Sheriff Oborevwori in 2027.
“To set the record straight, our Principal, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege did NOT indulge in any phone conversation or round table discussion with Senator Peter Nwaoboshi concerning forfeiting his governorship quest for Sheriff Oborevwori in 2027,” he wrote authoritatively.
He then proceeded with choice invectives, typical of vitriolic deceit bordering on desperation, not only to describe the content of the interview as “fake, malicious, too petty and erroneous” but to outrightly dismiss it as “fake news which was the handwork of mischief makers from the tenants of Delta APC, to score cheap political points and deceive Deltans to align with Sheriff Oborevwori in the governorship election.”
The most important information of his acrimonious rejoinder however, was contained in the paragraph where he stated inter-alia that: “We the pragmatic political soldiers of Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, call on all Deltans to pay deaf ears to the fake news and look forward to seeing Senator Ovie Omo-Agege partake in the governorship election in Delta State in 2027.” That’s it, in black and white. Uncensored.
Funny enough, the lie in Erhire’s claim is too obvious to ignore, Chuks Erhire describes the contents of the published interview as “fake news which is the handiwork of mischief makers from tenants of Delta APC to score cheap political points….” But can any sensible and right thinking political figure in the state really describe Senator Peter Nwaoboshi(Political Oracle)as a “Tenant” in Delta APC?
Perhaps Mr. Erhire was thinking properly in his eagerness to discredit the interview, otherwise he would have quickly realized before going public, that Senator Omo-Agege, by whatever parameters he has used to categorize some people as “tenants of Delta APC” is himself also a “Tenant” in the party. Anyways, minions like Erhire are usually fond of committing this kind of overzealous blunder to please their paymaster.
Admirably, Most Distinguished Senator Peter Nwaoboshi, has, in his dignified, elder statesmanly demeanor, refrained from joining issues with a mere aide like Chuks Erhire, who without doubt and like a ventriloquist’s doll, is definitely projecting his master’s voice and pronouncing his master’s words, in this sly act of laughable Stagecraft, but impeccable sources within the very inner circles of the former Delta North Senator and Senate Committee Chairman on Niger Delta, have revealed the following:
1. That following the mass Tsunami-like movement (as lyrically coined by President Bola Tinubu represented by VP Kahim Shetimma), of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and the entire government and People’s Democratic Party PDP, structure (including immediate past Governor Sen. Ifeanyi Okowa), to All Progressives Congress APC, on April 23, 2025. A meeting indeed held at the Abuja residence of Senator Peter Nwaoboshi and the former Governor present at that meeting was none other than the Godfather himself, Chief James Onanefe Ibori (Ogidigboigbo), and just last week Wednesday Senator Nwaoboshi held another meeting with Senator Ovie Omo- Agege at his Abuja residence and a top former National Assembly member from Delta North, who had also defected from PDP to APC with Governor Oborevwori, Hon. Pascal Adigwe was in Senator Nwaoboshi’s his house and can attest to the claim.
2. It was also emphasized at that meeting, which was very cordial and familial (relating to the collective APC Political family), that Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, by virtue of his status has automatically become the leader of the Party in Delta State.
3. That in view of the unanimous endorsements of both President Tinubu and Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for their 2nd terms, by the Party in the State and across all the Local Government Areas (including their wards and units), Senator Nwaoboshi advised and entreated Senator Omo-Agege, in the presence of the former Governor to embrace the party’s endorsement like the loyal party man that he is, shelve his ambition to contest the governorship in 2027 and deploy his political structure towards delivering victory for the APC in the Guber election.
4. Senator Nwaoboshi, had earlier met with Governor Oborevwori and beseeched him to work harmoniously with Omo-Agege and everybody, even offered to set up the meeting between the Governor and Senator Omo-Agege in line with consolidating the arrangement for the Governor to work harmoniously with all.
5. From all indices and visible indicators, the fact on ground as of now, is that Senator Omo-Agege has neither agreed to comply with the advise and entreaty to shelve his 2027 Guber ambition nor accepted the invitation to have a definitive meeting with Governor Oborevwori where the terms of a harmonious and mutually satisfactory working relationship will be consummated to the benefit of all interests.
On a final note, what is glaringly obvious from Chuks Erhire’s urgent “update” statement, is a devious and surreptitious attempt at gaslighting Distinguished Senator Peter Nwaoboshi to create the impression that the meeting where the former DSP was advised to shelf his 2027 Guber ambition did not hold and is a figment of the imagination of those who conjured it, even when the presence of a former Delta State Governor has been mentioned as witness to that meeting.
So, is this unwholesome agenda by Chuks Erhire delivered in his master’s voice, to ridicule, embarrass and tarnish the towering image and reputation of a beloved former Governor, by making him a conspirator who is complicit to a meeting that didn’t hold, a wise or foolish move? Only time will tell, but the insult has been noted by all.
Sadly, the ultimate objective of this overarching statement of declaration, is to announce to Deltans and inform the APC family in the state, that Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, despite the unanimous endorsement of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for a second term by the party, is going to contest the Delta State governorship election in 2027 and knowing the colourful enterprise and robust trajectory of the former DSP’s previous political engagements, he usually doesn’t fly a kite when it comes to pursuing his political ambition.

When Dr. Reuben Abati, respected journalist and former presidential aide, recently declared that “the Civil War in this country has never ended,” as such the North will not buy into the one-term idea being proposed by Peter Obi, he echoed a sentiment that resonates deeply with the lived experiences of millions of Nigerians, especially the Igbo people. This is not a mere metaphor; it is a historical truth that continues to manifest in the political, economic, and social architecture of Nigeria.
Those who dismiss this assertion should pause and reflect on the trajectory of Nigeria’s post-war history and the structural marginalization that the Igbo nation has endured for over five decades since the guns supposedly went silent in January 1970. The reality is stark: the war ended on paper, but its consequences still bleed into the very fabric of Nigeria’s governance and power distribution.
The marginalization of the Igbo people did not begin yesterday. It is anchored in deliberate policies designed after the Civil War to weaken and diminish a people who dared to assert their right to self-determination. The infamous “20 Pounds Policy,” where Igbo families, regardless of the millions they had in Nigerian banks before the war, were reduced to a mere £20 after the war, was the first open declaration that reconciliation was a farce.
This was swiftly followed by the Indigenization Decree of 1972, which opened the door for Nigerians to buy shares in foreign companies. But for the Igbos, who were economically strangled, dispossessed, and stripped of resources, this meant permanent exclusion from the commanding heights of Nigeria’s economy. These policies were not coincidental; they were calculated to perpetuate the consequences of defeat long after the battlefield was quiet.
Fast forward to today, the evidence of structural bias remains overwhelming. Key political positions at the national level are deliberately skewed away from the South-East. In over 63 years of Nigeria’s independence, the presidency has rotated between the North and the South-West, leaving the South-East permanently on the margins of national leadership. The Igbo man’s aspiration for the presidency has become a mirage. It is indeed easier for an elephant to pass through the eye of a needle than for an Igbo to become president under the present political structure. This is the hard reality, which may sound strange to those who choose to live in illusion.
THE CASE OF DCG B.U NWAFOR- A CONTEMPORARY EXAMPLE:
For those who doubt Dr. Abati’s assertion, let us examine a recent example that illustrates this age-old pattern of exclusion. Deputy Comptroller-General (DCG) B.U. Nwafor, an accomplished officer of Anambra extraction, stood next in line to succeed the current Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi. Her track record was impeccable, marked by discipline, diligence, and distinction.
Yet, in a move that reeks of systemic injustice, the presidency extended Adeniyi’s tenure by one year, effectively blocking Nwafor from ever reaching the pinnacle of her career. She will retire next year without attaining the office she merited, not because of incompetence or corruption, but because the civil war has never ended in Nigeria.
The Igbos are not politically irrelevant because they lack competence or capacity. On the contrary, the Igbo nation boasts some of the most brilliant minds in governance, industry, technology, and academia. Yet, in the calculus of Nigeria’s power politics, competence is not the currency, ethnic arithmetic is.
The Civil War may have ended militarily, but politically, economically, and psychologically, its embers still burn. The Igbo man is systematically denied access to the center of power, not by accident, but because the Civil War in Nigeria has never truly ended.
A COMMUNITY IN SELF-DENIAL:
What makes this reality even more tragic is that many Igbo politicians continue to live in self-denial, chasing shadows, believing that one day the political heavens will open for them. They scramble for crumbs instead of building a united front, failing to appreciate that the Civil War never truly ended, just as posited by Dr. Reuben Abati. This internal disunity has compounded their vulnerability, making them easy pawns in the chess game of Nigeria’s politics.
THE CONSEQUENCES – A REGION IN CRISIS:
The insecurity ravaging Ala-Igbo today, the rise of armed groups, criminality, and the breakdown of law and order is not happening in a vacuum. It is the direct consequence of decades of political ostracism, economic strangulation, and internal misgovernance. When a people are excluded for too long, the center cannot hold. Unfortunately, the alternatives resorted to by our restive, frustrated, disenchanted, and disillusioned youths have taken extreme and criminal dimensions, undermining every measure of civility.
THE PATH FORWARD – REDEFINING THE IGBO AGENDA:
If the Igbo nation must break free from this vicious cycle, it begins with self-redefinition:
1. Thinking Igbo First: A coordinated political and economic strategy that prioritizes regional integration and self-reliance.
2. Learning from Visionaries: Embracing developmental models championed by leaders like Dr. Alex Otti, Ndubuisi Mba, etc., who are proving that good governance can transform our narrative.
3. Ending Illusions: Accepting the hard truth that the Nigerian state, as currently structured, will not willingly hand power to the South-East. Igbos must therefore innovate, negotiate from a position of strength, and stop living in the fantasy of political benevolence.
Until these steps are taken, the Civil War will continue, not with bullets and bombs, but with policies, appointments, and the quiet violence of exclusion.
Dr. Abati was right. The war never ended. It simply changed its weapons.

In a significant move aimed at improving the welfare of retirees, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has approved the immediate release of N10 billion for the settlement of outstanding pension arrears owed to retired civil servants in Delta State. This announcement has drawn praise from the leadership of the Trade Union Congress (TUC), particularly its Delta State Chairman, Comrade Dr. Bolum Martin Nwachukwu.*
The governor’s decision was revealed during a fruitful meeting held on August 18, 2025, with the State Pension Board and leaders of the Association of Contributory Retirees.
Comrade Bolum Nwachukwu expressed deep gratitude for the unexpected sum, stating, “We were anticipating a release between N2 to N5 billion. However, the Governor’s magnanimity in releasing N10 billion is monumental. This will significantly alleviate the financial burdens faced by our retirees. It is not just a financial release; it is a lifeline.”
The N10 billion fund is intended to address an extensive backlog of pension payments that had been troubling retirees from the years 2011 to 2025. The timely intervention is expected to provide much-needed relief to retirees, who have suffered from delays in the payment of their pensions—a situation that has resulted in significant hardship for many families relying on these funds for their daily sustenance.
“Many of our retirees have been living from hand to mouth,” Dr. Bolum Nwachukwu continued, his voice reflecting the gravity of the situation. “With this N10 billion, we can finally restore the dignity that our retirees deserve. They have served selflessly and given their all to this state; it is only right we honor that commitment now.” He emphasized that pension payment delays had not only affected retirees but also created deeper social issues affecting communities across Delta State.
Comrade Dr. Bolum Martin Nwachukwu also underscored the need for continued governmental support: “While this is a monumental step forward, I urge Governor Oborevwori to ensure that this kind of proactive measure continues in the future. We need to make sure this does not become a one-off situation but rather a consistent effort to guarantee that retirees receive their dues promptly without undue stress.”
Comrade Bolum Nwachukwu also called for concerted efforts to enhance the pension ecosystem, stating, “It’s imperative that we invest in a more robust pension arrangement where retirees can feel secure. We should also explore avenues to educate our retirees on their rights and the processes available to them. Knowledge is empowerment, and we must ensure no retiree is left in the dark.”
Comrade Dr. Bolum Nwachukwu states, “This is just the beginning. We must work together to ensure that our retirees, who have dedicated their lives to serving Delta State, get the respect and care they deserve. Their plight must remain a priority.”
In a telephone call, Comrade Lawson Efenudu, the Secretary of the State Bureau for Pensions, underscored the commitment to ensuring transparency and accountability in the pension payment system. He assured that under his office’s supervision, the processes involved in the disbursement of pensions would be strictly monitored to prevent any form of mismanagement.
“Our system is designed with checks and balances to ensure that every retiree gets what they are entitled to without corruption,” Efenudu stated. “The Governor’s approval of N10 billion is an affirmation of our commitment to transparency in pension management. We can assure the public that every naira of this fund will be accounted for.”
During the meeting, Governor Oborevwori highlighted the ongoing challenges faced by the pension system, particularly the complexities involved in migrating to the contributory pension scheme. He emphasized that since he took office, his administration has prioritized the financial health of the pension system, with a total of N1.4 billion being disbursed monthly for pension payments. So far, his administration has processed a remarkable N36.4 billion in pensions.
“The welfare of our retirees is non-negotiable,” Governor Oborevwori affirmed. “We will continue to collaborate with stakeholders to address any outstanding issues and ensure our pensioners receive their entitlements in a timely manner.” His sentiments were echoed by other stakeholders in attendance, who voiced their support for both the funding release and the process moving forward.
In a show of solidarity, Comrade Anthony Ozu Osanekwu, the State Chairman of the Association of Contributory Retirees, expressed optimism regarding the future of pension management. “We appreciate the N10 billion release, and we look forward to collaborative efforts that will ensure systematic improvements in our pension framework,” he said. “What we need now is a mobilization of efforts to streamline these payment processes. We want assurances that moving forward, payment of pensions will become predictable and devoid of the anxiety we have faced in recent years.”
As the Delta State government moves forward with its initiatives to ensure the financial dignity of its retirees, it reflects a growing acknowledgment of the immense contributions made by these individuals to the state’s development.
With the clear commitment of Governor Oborevwori and the commendation from TUC leadership, the retirees in Delta State can finally see a beacon of hope as they look ahead to a more secure financial future. President Bola Tinubu had a closed door meeting the Director-General of the World Trade Organisation, Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, at the Aso Villa in Abuja today August 14.

Today, it’s a cultural explosion. The festival’s name, “ULO,” hints at “PEACE” in Igbo, a nod to remembering the past while embracing the present. Under the watch of the Odogwu—currently High Chief Charles Okonkwo, it’s become a yearly highlight, drawing locals, the diaspora, and curious visitors to the city’s heart. It’s a time when Igbuzo says, “This is who we are,” with pride and a big smile.
Preparations kick off weeks ahead. In each of the Umueze quarters, families sweep their compounds and stock up drinks and foods that’ll star in the feast. Young men dig out old clothes and paint, crafting wild costumes for the parades. Some dress as warriors, others as spirits, their faces smeared with chalk for that extra flair. Women tie their best wrappers and string beads, ready to dance and sing.
The Ulo Festival is more than fun, it’s the heartbeat of Igbuzo culture. It’s a time of forgiveness, a time to remember our past warriors who fought, ancestors who endured and to heal old wounds, like the Civil War scars that still linger. Everyone welcome—men, women, kids making it a true community hug and peace.
It’s a magnet too. The diaspora floods back from Lagos, London, United States of America, etc with suitcases packed with love for home. Tourists come for the show, snapping photos and tasting Delta’s spicy flavors. its a time to unite and boost Igbuzo’s name. It’s even tied to the broader Anioma Cultural Festival, showing off Delta’s Igbo pride on a bigger stage.
Graciously, this year 2025 Ulo festival added some lasting beauty to the artistic state of the community and it gives the festival a feeling of wonder which will remain indelible in the minds of art lovers, because a committee with cultural and other relevant credentials was set up and tasked with the cultural creativity to give Ibusa people what should be considered one of the finest Ulo Festivals since inception.

He is a God-sent chief whose coming has brought so many gain in growth and development, not forgetting the unlimited peace, unity and love that currently exist among his people and within the Ibusa community.

It’s a Festival among several others in the annual festive calendar of Ibusa.

Ulo Festival is one of the finest festivals celebrated by the Igbuzo people, Ulo is a communal festival with carefully planned programme and high revelry. It lasts for some days and its celebration mostly involves adult and youths who engage in it. In Ibusa, the festival is celebrated by Ezukwu and Umueze Quarters of the town. Ibusa tradition traces the origin of the festival to certain Ibusa warriors who went to Oko and returned with the idea of the festival. This according to the mythology explains the dance step of the main characters during the festival. It is on this occasion that the people move from house to house congratulating themselves. They may also congregate in groups to other villages to greet their illustrious daughters (Umuada) married in these villages.
Ulo comes with unique songs and dance-steps which are rarely sung on normal days and celebrants appear in groups singing and dancing to tunes composed by them. Major musical instruments are “Agogo” (small gong), local musical drums and Akpele (native flute). Not only does Ulo go with these traditional musical instruments, it also has a tune inimitable to it. Principal characters of the festival are Odogwu,Odua of Ibusa,Eze-Ulo,Onihea Umueze and others.

How can Nigeria sustain the gains of the real estate sector to ensure affordable projects and reduce housing deficit?
Social housing, not just by the government but private individuals is the way to go. It’s no longer news that Nigeria has an acute housing deficit estimated to be in the region of 22 million, which would require N6 trillion to fix. Besides, to properly tackle the deficit, the nation will need to build one million housing units per year in the next 20 years to bridge the deficit, if population remain constant. This means we need to shift from building to manufacturing houses. Any technology that encourages this such as 3D printers should be encouraged either by way of tax havens, subsidies or removal of import duties for importation of such machinery/printers.
Moreso, materials which can be produced or manufactured locally are imported at a higher price, either because of high taste or because there’s no confidence in some of the locally produced materials. These materials include marble, granite, stainless steel, exotic ceiling and roofing materials, massive columns with ornaments and cornices, bulletproof windows, doors, and any other building materials you can think of. Also, the Federal Government together with State Governments should begin social housing programmes and encourage the use of tested local materials, with provision of tax relief to the real estate industry and single digit loan.
Attracting funds to operate and meet business objectives for your industry is critical; how has your experience been like?
Companies that are properly structured in terms of corporate governance, solid structures are investors haven and naturally attract funding. With proper structuring, a real estate company can attract finance from commercial banks and the capital market. Partnerships and collaborations help us mitigate the challenges of having to fund projects 100 percent.
What can be done from both regulatory agencies and developers like yourself to eradicate building collapses across the country?
Building collapses are becoming a growing concern in the country, and we all need to work together to eradicate this problem. As a real estate expert and developer, I believe there are several things that can be done by both regulatory agencies and developers to prevent building collapses.
Firstly, regulatory agencies need to ensure that building codes and regulations are strictly adhered to by conducting regular inspections of construction sites to ensure that building materials and construction methods meet the required standards.
Secondly, developers should also take responsibility for ensuring that their buildings are constructed to the highest standards. This involves using quality materials, hiring skilled workers, and working with experienced architects and engineers. Developers should also ensure that their buildings are properly maintained and inspected regularly.
Thirdly, there should be serious sanctions and punishments for anyone found culpable in any collapse starting from the civil engineers, the approving officers, developer, and vendors on the project. This will serve as a deterrent to greedy developers looking to cut corners.
Finally, we need to raise awareness among the general public about the dangers of building collapses. This can be done through public campaigns, media awareness, and educational programs. The public needs to understand the importance of using quality building materials, following building codes and regulations, and ensuring that buildings are properly maintained. However, building collapses are a preventable problem, and we all need to work together to eradicate them. Regulatory agencies, developers, and the general public all have a role to play in ensuring that our buildings are safe and secure. By working together, we can make sure that building collapses become a thing of the past not just in Delta state but in Nigeria at large.
What are the specific challenges facing your company?
Like you rightly know, life is full of challenges, without challenges you will not move anywhere. Real estate in Nigeria is a very premature industry so there are a lot of issues, some of them based on government regulations while others based on financing. The market is an all-comer market.
What would you want the present administration to focus on in regard to the real estate industry?
Government has a significant role in creating an enabling environment in Nigeria’s real estate industry. Government should start by demystifying the bureaucracies in the land acquisition process, titling and approvals. This will create transparency in the system and hence encourage more private participation in the industry. It will also create a more vibrant and attractive industry for practitioners to work in, which will in turn spur young minds to join and build the sector. The government can encourage collaboration among industry players, including developers, contractors, architects, and artisans through public-private partnerships, to share best practices and promote innovation. This can help to create a more dynamic and competitive industry that can attract investment and talent both domestically and internationally.
Would you say going into those growth pole areas has been marketable? What are your usual sales challenges like? What has been the response of end-users to your projects and to your developments?
Save for the bastardisation of that type of real estate products, I think it’s been well received. Lately however, you need to differentiate yourself because it’s an all commerce affair now so you find all kinds of people who don’t even have the intention of doing anything reasonable anywhere coming up to say they have something and of course, the market will compare them with you. Before they realize that these people can’t deliver, it will be too late and when they fail, it rubs off on your own image but apart from that, I think that the strategy has been good.
However, even though we follow where development is going to, the difficulty of having a reasonable time limit or frame by which development will actually get there is another challenge and that is a subject of governance and a lot of the way we do things around here. Documentation becomes difficult and you can’t say this is when I will get my C of O even though you’ve done everything in the books because the Governor might not sign for whatever reasons.
Perhaps you’ve estimated that a project is going to take a particular frame of time and yes, there are challenges but the project is taking a year or two years after the time you projected. You should be thankful the project is not abandoned and there’s still continuity.
