The President General of ICDU home branch, Onowu Paul Okobi has been honoured by the Association of Community Newspaper Publishers of Nigeria(ACNPN) for his outstanding service to humanity and proactive leadership within the Igbuzo community.
 
The prestigious recognition, presented at the Publishers’ Annual Event, celebrates his unwavering commitment, grassroots engagement, and developmental contributions that have continued to strengthen unity and progress in Igbuzo.
 
Speaking shortly after receiving the award, the honouree expressed deep appreciation to the Association of Community Newspaper Publishers of Nigeria(ACNPN) for finding him worthy of the honour. He described the award as a motivation to continue serving with sincerity, dedication, and renewed energy.
 
He assured the gathering of his readiness to do even more for the growth and advancement of Igbuzo, noting that community development remains a shared responsibility.

The Community Newspaper Publishers of Nigeria (ACNPN), Delta State Chapter, has honoured the Cido Asthma Foundation for its exceptional humanitarian service as the first free Asthma hospital in Delta State, offering completely free treatment and long-term care to patients across the state.
 
The award highlights the Foundation’s remarkable commitment to saving lives, especially among low-income families who struggle to access proper asthma care. The hospital by Obi Nwaokocha Okeze Foundation and professionally managed by Dr. Pat Adigwe, has become a beacon of hope for thousands of residents living with asthma and related respiratory conditions.
 
Cido Asthma Foundation provides full medical support without charging a single naira, including free inhalers, free medications, free consultations, and continuous follow-up care to ensure every patient recovers fully and remains stable.
 
Beyond its hospital-based services, the Foundation regularly undertakes free asthma outreach missions to rural communities, towns, and hard-to-reach areas across Delta State, identifying patients, offering treatment, and educating families on asthma management and prevention.

Community Newspaper Publishers Honour Hon. Frank Esenwah as Most Proactive Legislator of the Year

The Association of Community Newspaper Publishers of Nigeria (ACNPN), Delta State Council, has honoured Hon. Frank Esenwah, Member representing Oshimili North Constituency in the Delta State House of Assembly, with the prestigious award of Most Proactive Legislator of the Year.
 
The award was presented in recognition of his outstanding legislative contributions, proactive engagement in debates, and significant input in bills and laws that continue to shape governance in Delta State. ACNPN described Hon. Esenwah as a vibrant, articulate, and highly productive lawmaker whose work has made Oshimili North’s voice resound strongly in the State Assembly.
 
Speaking at the event, the State Chairman of ACNPN, Comrade Ike Philip Abiagom —who also hails from Oshimili North—praised Hon. Esenwah for “placing the constituency on the legislative map” through his active representation and community-focused initiatives. He stated that “Oshimili North got it right this time,” and called on constituents to return Hon. Esenwah for a second term to consolidate on the progress already made.
 
The award was presented by the Chairman of the occasion, Distinguished Senator Peter Nwaoboshi, ably represented by the Senior Special Assistant to the Delta State Governor, Hon. Leo Nkeaka.

Distinguished Senator Peter Nwaoboshi has applauded the Association of Community Newspaper Publishers of Nigeria (ACNPN) for hosting its annual event in his hometown, Ibusa, describing it as a remarkable step toward deepening grassroots media engagement.
 
The Senator, who was represented by the Senior Special Assistant to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, Mr. Leo Nkeaka, commended the publishers for their commitment to sustaining community journalism and promoting local development narratives.
 
According to him, the role of grassroots newspapers has never been more important, as they serve as the voice of the common people and a vital bridge between the government and the communities. He urged the association to continue championing stories that reflect the aspirations, challenges, and realities of ordinary citizens.
 
Nwaoboshi further advised the publishers to remain the mirror of society—a sector that both the people and the government can trust for truthful, balanced, and responsible reportage. He noted that trust is the foundation of effective community journalism.

The Association of Community Newspaper Publishers of Nigeria (ACNPN), Delta State Council, today honoured distinguished personalities at its 2025 Annual Conference, an event that commenced with a free medical outreach, followed by a public lecture and an award ceremony.
 
Among those recognised were Dr. Fred Latimore Oghenesivbe, Chief Press Secretary to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori; Sir Festus Ahon, Dr Obi Lelvin Ezenyili , the Executive Chairman of Oshimili South Local Government Area; and Barr. Muwhen,Acting Managing Director of Delta Mortgage Trust Bank,  all honoured for their support for grassroots development, community journalism and effective public communication.
 
The conference, holding in Ibusa, brought together publishers, media practitioners, patrons, government officials and invited guests. Leading the event is Distinguished Senator Peter Nwaoboshi, who will serve as Chairman of the Conference. The Executive Governor of Delta State will attend as Special Guest of Honour, underscoring the importance the state government places on grassroots journalism and community-based communication.
Also expected are Pastor Idowu Okeze and Victor Odebala Esq, both serving as Guests of Honour, joining media practitioners, publishers, awardees, and invited stakeholders from across Delta State.

Community Newspaper Publishers Sets for Annual Conference, Free Medical Outreach in Ibusa on November 20, 2025

The Association of Community Newspaper Publishers  of Nigeria (ACNPN), Delta State chapter, has concluded plans to host its 2025 Annual Conference on Thursday, November 20, 2025, at the Obi Nwaokocha Okeze Event Centre, Ibusa. This year’s edition promises to be one of the most impactful, combining intellectual engagements with humanitarian service to the grassroots.
 
In a strong demonstration of its commitment to community welfare, ACNPN will begin the day with a free medical outreach for residents of Ibusa and neighbouring communities. The outreach—which will cover diabetes screening, blood sugar checks, asthma evaluation, blood pressure tests, and other essential medical services—will commence at 8:00 a.m. Medical professionals from partner organisations will be on ground to attend to hundreds of beneficiaries.
 
The main conference and keynote lecture are scheduled to begin by 11:00 a.m., drawing together media professionals, policymakers, traditional leaders, corporate partners, and grassroots stakeholders.
This year’s event will be chaired by Distinguished Senator Peter Nwaoboshi, who is expected to lead discussions on : The impact of Community Newspaper on Mental Health awareness and Access to Healthcare and The Role of Cooperative Societies in Promoting Community Healthcare and Mental Wellness”.
The Executive  Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, will grace the occasion as Special Guest of Honour, underscoring the state government’s recognition of the crucial role community newspapers play in strengthening civic participation.
 
Prominent philanthropists and supporters of grassroots journalism, Mr. Victor Odebala and Pastor Idowu Okeze, will attend as Guests of Honour. Their presence aligns with the association’s mission to build partnerships with individuals whose contributions uplift local communities and support independent media.
 
A major highlight of the conference will be the recognition and honouring of about twenty distinguished Nigerians who have demonstrated exceptional service, leadership, and commitment to community development, media support, and humanitarian contributions.
 
Speaking ahead of the event, the ACNPN 2025 Conference Committee Chairman, Dr Felida Essi  described the conference as “a platform to celebrate excellence, deepen dialogue, and bring vital services to the people,” emphasizing that community newspapers represent the “heartbeat of local information and social accountability.”
