Trigger-Happy Police Inspector arrested for allegedly killing trader in Asaba

Grassroots Publishers gathered that a trader identified as Onyeka Ibe, was allegedly shot along the Ugbolu-Illah road on his way to his shop at Ogbegonogo Market in Asaba by a trigger happy Police inspector known as Ebri Ubi attached to Delta State Police Command . The youths, who besieged the command headquarters along Okpanam Road, demanded the arrest and prosecution of the trigger happy policeman.

The youths rolled the corpse along Nnebisi road on a stretcher from the Federal Medical Centre, Asaba to the Delta Police Headquarters in Asaba- a distance of almost two kilometres.

The alleged murder of a trader named Mr. Onyeka Ibe in Asaba has led to the arrest and detention of a police inspector known as Ebri Ubi, by Delta State Police Command.

The incident occurred on Wednesday, April 5, 2023, along Ugbolu-Illah Road in the Oshimili North Local Government Area of the state, according to DSP Bright Edafe, the command’s spokeswoman, who confirmed it in a statement. The inspector is accused of shooting and killing Mr. Ibe while performing a Stop and Search.

According to Edafe, CP Ari Muhammed Ali, the state commissioner of police, gave the order for the inspector’s detention.

 

“The Commissioner of Police Delta State CP Ari Muhammed Ali FCIA, psc+, has expressed heartfelt condolences to the family of late Mr. Onyeka Ibe, who was reportedly shot dead on the 5/4/2023 at about 09:30 hours by an Inspector of Police, one Inspr. Ebri Ubi, while on Stop and Search duty along Ugbolu-Illah Road, Oshimili North LGA, Delta State,” the statement read.

“The Commissioner of Police on receipt of the sad news immediately ordered the arrest and detention of the errant police officer and directed that his transfer to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Asaba where he has further ordered for a thorough and speedy investigation.

“The CP noted that for the Force, being a disciplined organization, will not condone such cruel action by any member of the Force assuring that the offending Officer will be subjected to internal disciplinary measures, including criminal prosecution.

 

“He therefore appealed to members of the public to remain calm and law abiding, assuring them justice will not just be done but will be seen to have been done.
