The Delta State Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Commandant Chinedu Fabian Igbo, has joined the Delta State Commissioner of Police, CP Samuel Erale, and other security and traffic management officials on an inspection of ongoing road construction works along the Asaba-Onitsha end of the Niger Bridge.
The inspection, which took place on November 3, 2026, was aimed at identifying critical areas and bottlenecks responsible for traffic congestion along the busy Niger Bridge axis and developing effective measures to improve traffic flow.
The joint inspection team was led by CP Erale and included Commandant Igbo, FRSC Corps Commander Charles E. Edem, representatives of the Delta State Traffic Management Authority (DESTMA), and road construction contractors.
According to a statement issued by the Delta State NSCDC Command Public Relations Officer, DSC Anthony Uchenna, the inspection provided an opportunity for the officials to assess the traffic situation and identify necessary interventions to ease congestion.
The exercise resulted in interventions aimed at reducing traffic gridlock, including the evacuation of obstructions and measures to ensure smoother movement of vehicles along the axis.
The statement noted that the inspection also provided valuable insight into the level of coordination, operational synergy and deployment required for the forthcoming joint task force on traffic management.
The planned task force is expected to strengthen traffic control operations during the upcoming Christmas and New Year celebrations, as well as ahead of and during the 2027 general elections.
Commandant Igbo and the other service commanders assured commuters and residents of Delta State that efforts were underway to ensure improved traffic management and free flow of vehicles before, during and after the ember months.
The joint initiative underscores the commitment of security agencies and traffic management authorities to inter-agency collaboration, public safety and the reduction of travel difficulties along one of the busiest transport corridors linking Delta State with other parts of the country.
The NSCDC reiterated the importance of cooperation among relevant agencies in ensuring safer roads, efficient traffic management and a more convenient travelling experience for motorists and commuters.
