Easter : Nwaoboshi Urges Nigerians to Adopt Spirit of Sacrifice

By: Ike Philip Abiagom

Most Distinguished Senator Peter Onyelukachukwu Nwaoboshi (SPON)

[dropcap]M[/dropcap]ost Distinguished Senator Peter Onyelukachukwu Nwaoboshi has congratulated Christians across the world, particularly the ones in Nigeria, on this year’s Easter celebration, which symbolised the resurrection of Jesus Christ and also urged them to embrace the spirit of sacrifice for the survival and development of the country.

Nwaoboshi in a statement from his Media Office in Asaba noted that Easter represents the sacrifice Jesus Christ made for the benefit of mankind, stressing that those who believe and follow his teachings must also accept the need to play positive roles in making the country and the world they live in safer, united and develop.

He noted that while Nigeria is being confronted by various challenges- economic, security, social, health and political – the decision of her citizens to display the virtues and values represented by Jesus Christ will help in quickly reversing the negative trend and put the country on a path of genuine development.

“I appeal to all Nigerians to adopt a spirit of sacrifice borne out of love – for each other and for our dear country. I firmly believe that adopting such a spirit will help us overcome the many negative developments that threaten to break the bonds of our nationhood, reunite us and help us grow together as a nation.

“That is the only way that the lengthy fasting our brothers and sisters went through during the just ended Lent period will be a beneficial exercise. We must use this period to demonstrate that we are first Nigerians before being Christians or Muslims. Nigerians, no matter in what way they worship God, should embrace the fear of God and not just being overtly religious.

“It is my prayer that almighty God will intervene and heal our country in all areas while also giving us victory over those misguided elements who are waging wars against the country. May the protection of God be on all members of the security agencies who are on the frontlines fighting to defend our country. I wish all our Christian brothers and sisters a happy celebration of Good Friday and Easter,” Nwaoboshi stated.

A Special Birthday Tribute to Dr Chukwuemeka Okolie : An Enigma Like No Other

By: Ike Philip Abiagom

Dr Chukwuemeka Okolie

[dropcap]G[/dropcap]reatness is a property for which no man can receive credit too soon; it must be possessed long before it is acknowledged. ”When one of the world’s greatest thinkers, Ralph Waldo Emerson handed down the above words of wisdom, those he had in mind were certainly the likes of Dr Chukwuemeka Okolie (Isimili) .

Dr Chukwuemeka Okolie (Isimili) is the quintessential leader and gentleman. He is the embodiment of cerebral articulation, the essence of unparalleled philanthropy, the epitome of intellection and breathtaking simplicity, the personification of undiluted humanness, the perfect example of leadership symbolism, the paragon of idealism, the soul of humanity, the heart of warrior, the perfect gentleman. Indeed, some leaders are born, some achieve leadership, some have leadership thrust upon them, while only very few have all three embedded in them.

Dr Chukwuemeka Okolie (Isimili)is one of those very few good men; a true philanthropist, an accomplished Academician, a perfect gentleman, a man of valour, the bringer of rain. In the gallery of great leaders and great men, he is without doubt, a rare masterpiece.

Dr Chukwuemeka Okolie (Isimili) celebrated his birthday today and to put the epochal celebration in proper perspective, he attained the midpoint of midlife at the exciting peak and the proper prime of his mercurial powers where, poised like the bronzed champion, glowing flamboyantly in the golden flame of his decade, prepares himself to capture and conquer arguably, the one ultimate laurel for which his superlative gifts and brilliance clamour to be manifestly celebrated with maximum political aplomb woven into the matrix of an intrepid homogeneous ubiquity.

A true brother, elegant, teacher and handsome, dark and unblemished in the magisterial lithe and athleticism of folkloric Kings and heroes, soft-spoken, with clear, unfettered, excellent diction and oratory, his brilliant smile like sparkling sun radiating from crystal clear eyes and embellished by the clean-shaven glistening scalp. Dr Chukwuemeka Okolie (Isimili)is down to earth and corporate-smart, from the various experiences of home-bred grooming, ivy league sojourns in first class institutions and the inspirational influence and unparalleled, unquantifiable tutelage from the grand master himself, Chief P.C. Okolie, He is an accomplished businessman, Academician, technocrat, politician and grassroots mobilizer on his own merit.

A man of immense mettle and a completely detribalized human being with a profound depth of character, whose humility, devoid of discrimination, embraces all and sundry, he soars like an eagle and exudes reverence and integrity. A pragmatic leader full of benevolence, he gives hope to the hopeless, Job to the jobless and welfare and succor to the poor and needy. To everyone who crosses his path, he is a light. He is a friend to all, a role model to the young, a helper to many and a visionary man bubbling with the ideals of entrenching a united, peaceful, harmonious vision for his community and the world. Honest, Transparent, Dependable, uncomplicated and full of wisdom, Dr Chukwuemeka Okolie (Isimili) can change you effortlessly, with his word.
Indeed the birthday celebration of this digital Academician of our time had been useful and resourceful for his service to humanity. Therefore today let me on behalf of my beloved town Ibusa kingdom in Oshimili North Local government Area of Delta State celebrate our  iconoclastic Dr Chukwuemeka Okolie and thank Almighty God for adding another year to his life and to pray that God continues to bless him with robust health, protection, and enduring provision. Your reign shall bring prosperity and peace to Ibusa, Oshimili, Delta State and Nigeria in general.
Brother, though even the sun will one day run out of fuel, our love for you shall last forever. we thank God each and every day for giving us a brother like you. On your birthday, we want to thank you for being the best brother anyone could ever hope for. You are such a great role model for every brother in the world because you are so loving, caring, protective, and supportive.

Your legendary generosity and willingness to do good at all times is documented in the hearts of millions. That is why on your birthday, You deserves a toast and song, “Happy birthday to you…” Above all, You deserves a prayer from everyone who is on the side of truth in the eternal battle between truth and falsehood. Big Happy Birthday—

“Consequently, the leader of the patrol team reportedly detailed the three inspectors to follow the complainant to the scene, armed with their AK-47 rifles.

“While waiting for the return of the three inspectors, the team later saw the complainant on a speeding motorcycle without our men.

“He was stopped to inquire about the three mobile police officers who went with him. It was at that juncture that he told them that, when they got to the scene, they were attacked at the bush by six herdsmen and he had to escape while the policemen ran in different directions.

Don’t hide Suspects, Oborevwori Cautions Traditional Rulers

[dropcap]R[/dropcap]t. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori ,the executive Governor of Delta State has cautioned traditional rulers in the state against shielding suspects involved in the killing of four military officers and thirteen soldiers in Okuama community, Ughelli South Local Government Area of the state.

Governor Oborevwori gave the warning, Thursday, March 21, 2024, when he addressed traditional rulers, on the unfortunate incident at the State Traditional Rulers’ Council Secretariat in Asaba. The Governor who said that the act was alien to the state, described it as barbaric, inhumane and unacceptable and vowed that those who committed the evil act must be made to face the full wrath of the law.

He said no kingdom should shield the perpetrators of the dastardly act, adding that Delta was governed within the tenets of the rule of law and human decency.

Oborevwori said; “On the 7th of February, we summoned the people of Okoloba and Okuama communities in Bomadi and Ughelli South Local Government Areas including the members representing the two constituencies in the State House of Assembly, the Council Chairmen and their Presidents-General where we advised them that a lot has been happening in their area and they signed a peace accord.

“The killing of these Army Officers and soldiers came as a rude shock to us and when this thing happened, I immediately called the National Security Adviser, the Chief of Defence Staff and the Army Staff because I was in Abuja. I came back and issued a press statement.

“On Monday, I went to Bomadi to meet with all the security chiefs, where we had our security council meeting and I got briefings from the Brigade Commander. In attendance was the G.O.C 6 Division Nigerian Army, Maj Gen Jamil Abdussalam and the JTF Commander, Real Admiral John Okeke.

“After the meeting, I went to Abuja to meet with Mr. President to brief him on what happened. I also went to see the Chief of Army Staff to discuss with him. I also meet with the National Security Adviser and the Inspector General of Police.

“I felt that it is also proper that I brief you people even though you may be aware. Those people who committed that evil act must face the wrath of the law. No kingdom should shield those criminals because Delta state is governed by the tenets of the law and human decency.

“We cannot tolerate that. It has never happened in this state; to kill one Lt. Colonel, two Majors, one Captain and 13 Soldiers. We need to fish out those involved.

“Do not hide or shield anybody. The Chief of Army Staff and Mr. President have assured me that innocent people will not be victimised; unless you connive with the killers of the soldiers.

“I have briefed you and make sure that you fish them out from your kingdoms. If any traditional ruler shields a criminal, that traditional ruler is inviting trouble.

“We did not bargain for this evil act but for peace, I don’t want crisis. I have also received information that two other villages are boiling to fight, they should not fight, we want peace in all our communities.

“What are they fighting for? I have promised you people that I am going to do more for Deltans, so what are they fighting for? All of us are Deltans and we want development.

“For the first time almost two decades, we had peace in Warri in December and people celebrated in peace. Now we have communal crisis, why?

“I condemn it and it’s unacceptable. So please my dear royal fathers let us be on the same page to fish out these people. Don’t allow anybody who committed this evil act to come to your kingdoms and bring problem to your community.

“Tell us and we will hand them over to security agencies. You should not play politics with this. Don’t say that the Army have taken over your village because they cannot just come to your village without getting information. But I assure you people that no innocent person will be victimised.

“Tell your people not to encourage crisis because if you do, you cannot come out of it. Some people don’t have knowledge of what is happening and they start talking. What I did was to go and brief the Commander in Chief and later granted the State House Correspondents interview.”

Responding, Chairman Delta State Traditional Rulers Council, His Royal Majesty, Maj. Gen. Felix Mujakperuo, (retd), said that they were on same page with the Governor to ensure peace and security in the state.

While saying that the security of various kingdoms would dovetail to the security of the state and the nation, he called for a judicial panel of enquiry to unravel the immediate and remote cause of the crisis.

In a related development, Governor Oborevwori also briefed the Delta State Advisory and Peace Building Council where he urged them to talk to the people on the need to maintain peace across state.

He said government would not allow trouble makers to dissuade investors from coming to invest in the state, adding that sustainable peace was needed to attract investors to the state.

Chairman of the Council, Professor Sam Oyovbaire commended the Governor for his efforts at ensuring peace and security across the state, stressing that Council members support the peace building moves of the Governor.

Hundreds of commercial motorcyclists in the Delta State Capital Territory, on Monday embarked on a violent and destructive protest over an alleged harassment by the Monitoring Taskforce of the Commercial Motorcycle and Tricycle Operators Association (COMTOA), Delta state.

The protest was said to have been triggered by the death of two of the commercial motorcyclists during a clash with members of the Taskforce and the police at the Midwifery market axis of the State Capital Territory a couple of days ago.

Senator Nwaoboshi condemns killing of Military Personnel in Delta

Most Distinguished Senator Peter. O. Nwaoboshi(SPON)

[dropcap]M[/dropcap]ost Distinguished Senator Peter Onyelukachukwu Nwaoboshi(SPON) has condemned the gruesome murder of 16 Army personnel attached to ‘Operation Delta Safe’ in Okuama community of Ughelli South Local Government Area of Delta State.

Reacting to the killing of the army personnel during a peace mission between two warring communities on Sunday, the Senator said the culprits must be made to face the full consequences of their actions.

In the statement signed by the SPON Media, Senator Nwaoboshi noted that the sacrifices made by the Commanding Officer and three other senior officers as well as 12 soldiers during the distressing incident would be forever remembered.

The statement extended the deepest condolences of the lawmaker to our President, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Federal Republic of Nigeria, HIS EXCELLENCY Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR, Chief of Defence Staff, the Chief of Army Staff, the Nigerian Army and officers and men of Operation Delta Safe – over the tragic loss of the officers

The officers are believed to have come under attack by some youths during a peace mission to Okuama Community in Ughelli South Local Government Area of Delta State.
“Sixteen is not a small number. To think that they were on a peacekeeping mission makes it further depressing. Delta state is known for its relative peace. Such an occurrence should be the last of its kind,”Nwaoboshi said.

“Whatever led to the killings could have been handled with dialogue. These are people who defend our nation and must be accorded all the respect they deserve. This must be investigated, so we know the root cause of this sad development. The culprits must be caught and prosecuted.

Senator Nwaoboshi, passionately appealed to the Nigerian Military to temper justice with mercy, and not to embark on reprisals attacks as a result of the ugly incident. He advised against executing vengeance on the entire community, but rather they should fish out the culprits and allow the law take its course.

“I extend my condolence to the family of every soldier who lost his life.”

2024 Budget: You can’t take credit for Tinubu’s works, APC stalwart, Elueme tells Sen Nwoko

[dropcap]A[/dropcap] chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Delta State Chapter, Mr Philip Elueme, has admonished the Senator representing Delta North Senatorial district, Senator Ned Nwoko to desist from seeking to take credit for what he described as a painstaking efforts of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to expend N3.5bn vote for the Delta Senatorial district in the 2024 budget in many sectors.

The party Chieftain gave this insight in Abuja over the weekend noting that a closer perusal of the 2024 budget for the Delta North district has the imprint of the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Tinubu, adding that the President is conscious of the need of the people of the district saying Senator Nwoko shouldn’t feast on the budget of the APC-led administration to “mislead and misinform the now wiser constituents” who he said can not be deceived again having been represented until recently by Senator Peter Nwaoboshi, Sen Ifeanyi Okowa, late Sen Osakwe, who served without taking undue credit ingloriously. Elueme asserted: “UmuAnioma are seeing through the contradictions inherent in the current misadventure of the scheming, over hyped, Senator-do-nothing.”

With the benefits of hindsight, Elueme noted that there were unfinished jobs that his predecessors over the years were handling in the Senate that culminated in the huge sum allocated to Delta North Senatorial district in the current budget a more reason he said Senator Nwoko should give credit accordingly rather than conjure cheap credit in what he described as unnecessary self adulation.”

In his reaction to the list of projects announced to have been attracted to the district, by Senator Nwoko, Mr Elueme who has been in and out of the National Assembly cum Presidency, administratively over the years stated that: “The projects your camp published goes beyond his constituency projects to include majorly, APCs President Tinubu led Renewed agenda projects for Delta North in 2024, in the water, roads and educational sectors, etc.
“Curiously Nwoko’s media team, who are claiming that some Nigerians want Prince Ned to run for Presidency in 2027 (hence challenge President Tinubu) have been propagating the notion that Mr President and APC have little or nothing to show.

“Happily, the same false propagandists against Mr President, laughingly ‘hijacked his projects’ in Delta north as their minority PDPs member attracted cum lobbied projects, meaning that Nwoko’s camp cum party can fallaciously go ahead de-branding APC and Mr President as ineffectual.” The vociferous party leader and Anioma activist stated as he advised Senator Nwoko and his team that: “For good governance to thrive we must abide by the principles of integrity and transparency particularly when we communicate to the public’s. I am afraid that this angle by Nwoko’s camp is not acceptable within the norms of ethically oriented good governance mantra.

“Federal projects largely of President Tinubu in Delta North will not be allowed to be misappropriated, that is like falsely de-branding Mr President and his party as having done nothing for Delta northerners…it’s abysmally fraudulent and we call for a change of attitude in the above context. Nwoko should work harder to attract projects to the Constituency and exit his penchant for cheap publicity.” Elueme enthused.

Pointedly, Elueme called on Senator Nwoko to caution his handlers who he noted are eroding his integrity in their unwarranted vilification of President Tinubu arguing that: “The alter egos of APC’s President Tinubu in Delta State are the APC State Executives led by Olorogun Sobotie, RT Hon Omo Agege, APC leaders in Delta North Sen Peter Nwaoboshi, Hon Victor Ochei, Lady Madam Olejeme, Engr Hon Doris Uboh, APC reps candidate for Ndokwa Ukwuani Federal Constituency in the last election, Sir Opone, Evangelist Moses Kamaya, and all the others too numerous to mention would not allow for some elements to cast slur on the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria either in the state or beyond.

“These are the owners of these APCs President Tinubu renewed agenda projects, largely spread all over Delta North. These are the APC Federal presence projects. Senator Nwoko of PDP minority will not be allowed to take over APC President Tinubu renewed agenda projects in 2024.

Prince Ned Nwoko is openly arrogating some of President Tinubu renewed agenda policy projects in Delta State to himself as if he is the President.”

[dropcap]N[/dropcap]igeria’s military on Sunday, continued their siege on Okuoma community in Ughelli South Local Government area of Delta State in search of the killers of four officers and 12 soldiers who were on a peace mission to the community. Hide original message

Security sources said the heavily armed soldiers were unrelenting in apprehending the perpetrators inspite of the fact that the community was deserted.

It was however gathered that some buildings, allegedly owned or occupied by suspected perpetrators were set ablaze by the angry soldiers.

“Yes. Soldiers are still in the community. They are looking out for the perpetrators of that dastardly act. They will definitely get them as more arrests were made between Saturday and today (Sunday).

“Some houses were set on fire but I can’t say who set them on fire and when. We came in to join the troops and noticed that they were on fire”, the security sources said.

It was learnt that partial peace had returned to the community though it was deserted but elderly men and women were seen sitting down Infront of their homes looking dejected.

Senator Joel-Onowakpo Condemns Killing, Calls For Calm

Meanwhile, the Vice Chairman, Senate Committee on Defence, Senator Joel-Onowakpo Thomas has condemned the gruesome murder of 16 soldiers in Okuama Community in Ughelli South Local Government Area of Delta State.

While commiserating with the military and the immediate families of the slain soldiers, he called for an holistic investigation into the remote causes of the crisis that led to the unwarranted killing of innocent soldiers.

Senator Joel-Onowakpo stressed the need for the security agencies to go after the masterminds of the heinous crime.

The Senator, who also sympathized with the families of those who may have lost their loved ones as a result of the crisis, sued for immediate intervention of both the state and federal governments to avoid further escalation of the crisis.

He stressed on the need for the military to tactically deploy intelligence in the pursuit of the masterminds to avoid killing of innocent children and women of Okuama community who may not know those behind the dastardly act.

Mutu Condemns Action, Decries Linkage With Ijaw, Urges Arrest, Prosecution of killers

Member of the House of Representatives, representing Bomadi/Patani Federal Constituency of Delta State, Nicholas Mutu also condemned Thursday’s killing of 16 soldiers by some irate youths of Okuama community , an Urhobo enclave in Ughelli South Local Government Area of the state.

Mutu, who is the Chairman of the Gas Committee in the House, described the action as “barbaric and inhuman.”

Mutu, who is also the Chairman of the Southern Nigeria Caucus in the House  of Representatives, made his position on the tragic incident known in a statement issued by his Media Office on Sunday.

The federal lawmaker in the emotion- laden statement, said the killings of the 16 solders, including a Lt. Col, two Majors and one Captain of the Nigerian Army, on a peace keeping assignment in the Urhobo community was “senseless and embarrassing.”

Mutu challenged all relevant security agencies to work round the clock to fish out the killers and bring them to  justice.

He warned that the criminals should not  escape justice in order to serve as deterrent to those who may be planning to indulge in such heinous crime in the future.

He condoled the families of the fallen soldiers, the Nigerian Army as well as the Armed Forces on the tragic development and prayed God to grant the repose of the souls of the gallant soldiers, who were gruesomely murdered while performing patriotic national assignments.

The lawmaker,  however, frowned at distortion of facts of the incident in a section of the press, which linked the fate of the soldiers to Ijaw militias in Okoloba, an Ijaw community in Bomadi Local Government Area of Delta state.

“This is far from truth of the incident. The Ijaw is not in anyway linked or connected  to this unjustifiable barbaric and inhuman and  condemnable act.

“The facts of the matter are with all appropriate security agencies and they are in fact in public domain. The indigenes of Okuama are responsible for these senseless killings. Two contigents of troops of Nigerian Army who were deployed separately on peace keeping mission in Okuama, particularly to investigate the killing of an Okoloba boy, were ambushed and  wilfully murdered in cold-blood in Okuama.”

“Their headless and dismembered remains were recovered in the waters of Okuama Community , which is the scene of the crime. It’s therefore callous and indiscretionary to link the Ijaw to this heinous crime, which is a national embarrassment. It’s wrong for a section of the press to link the  innocent Ijaw people to this crime and I seize this medium to debunk such irresponsible reports on the incident.

“I condemn the reports linking the Ijaw with this crime and call on the authors of such falsehood to retract them and apologise to the Ijaw nation, forthwith. I also wish to implore all relevant security agencies to ensure that no stone is left unturned to arrest these criminals and prosecute them to attone for the sins they have committed against humanity”, he said.

CDC of Niger Delta Oil and Gas Decries Killing of Soldiers in Delta Community

Also the leadership of the Community Development Committees of Niger Delta Oil and Gas Producing Areas (CDC) condemned the killing of the soldiers of the 181 Amphibious Battalion of the Nigerian Army over a communal clash describing it as unacceptable.

“There is no justification for this type of barbaric behaviour of a people against officers and men of the security forces”, it stated.

CDC, in a statement issued yesterday and signed by it’s Chairman, Board of Trustees, Joseph Ambadekerimo declared “We cannot allow this ugly incident to continue to happen in our communities. The region should not be made to become a hot bed of insecurity.

“We have enjoyed relative peace and we enjoin all and sundry to key in to continue to provide the atmosphere of peace and tranquil togetherness in our communities. We have pride the Niger Delta region as the most peaceful of the country and we urge it remains so”, it added.

The group expressed sadness that peace keepers now became targets while trying to maintain peace and provide security to lives and properties noting that the culprits must be fished out and made to pay the highest price.

“Certainly this is the act  of criminal elements taking refuge in these communities therefore the leadership in these communities must be held to account untill the actors are found”, it stated.

CDC however appealed to  President Bola Tinubu and the military high command  to restrain themselves from any form of  reprisals attack on the communities noting that doing so would only compound the already dire situation and it will only be the innocent ones that will suffer from such reprisal attacks.
