The Light Diabetes Organisation, a Non-profit organization with a focus on the management of diabetes and other endocrine and metabolism conditions, took the sensitization and free screening campaign on diabetes in Ibusa townand its environs for public education to mark World Diabetes which is annually celebrated on the 14th November..

The theme for diabetes awareness month is “Education to Protect Tomorrow”, which The Light Diabetes Organisation says remains its core activity in its efforts to provide quality care for Nigerians living with diabetes while also creating awareness of its growing increase in the country.

The Co-Founder, The Light Diabetes Organisation, Princess (Mrs) Tonia Nkem Akindele(nee Eluemelu, stressed in her address the need to educate the people to know their diabetes status to prevent avoidable complications.

Akindele stated this on Friday during a sensitization and free screening campaign on diabetes organised by The Light Diabetes Organisation , with the theme: “Education to protect Tomorrow”.”
She noted that this year’s theme, “Education to protect Tomorrow” emphasised the importance of tackling the challenges faced by individuals, communities, and health systems to access diabetes prevention and management.

Akindele stressed the need for government and relevant stakeholders to raise awareness campaigns on early detection, saying ‘prevention is better cure.’

The Founder advised the people to come for diabetes screening at least twice a year and encouraged them to engage in regular exercise and proper diet.
“If you exercise, watch your diet, control your weight and take the prescribed medicine by your doctor, you can make a big difference in reducing or preventing the damage diabetes can do,”she said.

Akindele said that It’s also opportunity for people to know their status, especially given findings that 1 out of every 2 persons living with diabetes do not know they have it. Yet, early detection of diabetes remains crucial in the prevention of deadly complications,” the statement read in parts.

It further noted that persons with uncontrolled diabetes would develop a wide range of complications linked with the disease, some of which could lead to lengthy hospital stays, blindness, foot amputation or death.

Elue- Dike Commends Delta PDP for Aligning With Ruling APC

APC Chieftain and businessman, Chief Ambrose Elue-Dike, has said the recent defection of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and other PDP leaders, stakeholders and members in the state to the All Progressives Congress (APC), is commendable.

Chief Dike, in a statement made available to Newsbreeze, noted that PDP was no longer the largest party it used to be in Africa due to unresolved crisis that stemmed from the 2023 general election.

He said though the party remained strong and dominant in Delta State, it could not be isolated from the crisis at the national level, which had led to gale of defections by some leaders and members of the party in the state in the recent past.

Chief Dike, a loyal Aide to Most Distinguished Senator Peter Nwaoboshi and dedicated member of the APC, said the Governor, as the leader of the party, was right to have consulted widely with stakeholders on the way to go, describing the mass movement to the APC as the best option.

The political tactician allayed fears of the possibility of an implosion in the Delta APC, expressing confidence in the ability of the Governor to ensure a seamless realignment and balance of power that would be satisfactory to all.

He said there was no cause for concerns about the defection and urged all PDP members in the state to queue behind the Governor in that regard as the state would benefit more from the system under the ruling APC, especially the “Renewed Hope Agenda” of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

A Political Movement To APC: Oborevwori, Okowa, Others Created Unprecedented Political Tsunami

By: Ike Philip Abiagom

A political tsunami swept through the landscape of Delta State yesterday. The entire political structure of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) dissolved into the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Governor Sheriff Oborevwori led the immediate-past Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, all political appointees, all elected public office holders and all party executives in a mass defection to the APC.

In a major twist to political permutations ahead of the 2027 general elections, the Delta State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), led by Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and his predecessor, Ifeanyi Okowa, has officially joined the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

At a ceremony attended by a mammoth crowd at the Cenotaph in Asaba on Monday, the Delta capital, Oborevwori, Okowa, and others in the oil-rich state were received into the APC, days after they announced their decision to leave the PDP.

The defectors were officially received into the party by chieftains of the ruling APC, including Vice President Kashim Shettima; the party’s National Chairman, Abdullahi Ganduje; Senator Adams Oshiomhole; Governor Hope Uzodimma, who is the chairman of the Progressive Governors’ Forum, among other political bigwigs.

At the event, the Delta governor described the decision as historic. Oborevwori said the move to the APC was borne out of the desire to get the best for the South-South state.

“What you have seen here today is a movement, not a defection. We have consulted stakeholders at all levels. Mr President has shown us love, “Oborevwori, who was a former speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, said during the ceremony on Monday.

The governor said the decision to join the APC was made after consultations with stakeholders in the oil-rich state and based on President Bola Tinubu’s love for Delta.

“We cannot face him in 2027 to work against him. When you consult widely, you can see that the love is organic,” the governor argued.

“All our members in the Delta State House of Assembly have agreed to defect. The state exco, council chairmen, councillors, LG chairmen, and others are all moving to the APC,” Oborevwori noted.

The collapse of the PDP structure in Delta came as a rude shock to millions of Nigerians. That move ended the main opposition party’s 26-year hold on the state, adding a fresh layer of intrigue ahead of the next election.  Okowa was the PDP vice presidential candidate in the 2023 general election.

That defection from one of the traditional strongholds of the PDP has continued to stir debates among Nigerians and analysts alike. The PDP said it was shocked by the defection but was not worried about the impact of the political move.

During the official reception of the defectors, Okowa re-echoed Oborevwori’s reason for the collapse of the PDP structure. The former lawmaker said the “bold” decision was in the “best interest of our people”.

“Today is a great day for us in Delta State. We defected in the best interest of our people,” Okowa, who is also a former commissioner, told the crowd of supporters and other political topshots.

“It was not about me or the governor, but the fact that there is a need for us to connect to Abuja. This is a bold, patriotic, and well-intentioned move.”

Shettima, who was leading the APC delegation at the ceremony, welcomed the new members into the party. He said the defection is a testament to the progressive ideals of the Governor Oberevwori and his team in Delta State.

Vice President Shettima described the decamping as a tsunami and an unimaginable feat.

“This is a political tsunami of unimaginable proportions that has never happened in the history of the South-South sub-region and the history of Nigeria,” he said.

A Tribute to My Wife Pharm. Bridget Okocha

By: Ike Philip Abiagom

It is hard to accept the death of a loved one, especially when you didn’t have the chance to say goodbye, especially when the deceased was taken so suddenly and so shockingly at the prime of life and most especially when it seems like an irreplaceable part of ones life is gone.

The grief and pain can be unbearable; you cry a river and your sorrow knows no end. You never really know what it’s like until you are there yourself, but you look to God because he is the only one who can comfort you.

Death and indeed a death so sudden and painful like the death of my wife on March 2025, makes me realize the brevity of life. It brought clearly to the fore the thin line between life and death. We often take life for granted, too much so.

Her death has made me sit down and reflect. It has made me put things in perspective. I am still in a state of shock.

Bee and I lived as husband and wife for decades , she was my friend, my colleague, my sister, my companion, my partner and my wife.

Bee was deeply religious, She was involved in so many charities anonymously and her last activity on the day she passed on was to go and transfer funds to some of the charities she was sponsoring.

Bee I miss the wonderful plans we made. The memories we shared will never fade.

Having you in my life, was the best dream come true. Since you have left this world, words cannot describe the emptiness inside me. I get so lost without you but I am sure you are with the Lord. You are with angels singing and praising the almighty whom you served while on earth with all your heart. You can no longer be seen by human eye, but your soul and love that you gave so many will never die.

Since you are with the angels, please we ( our children and I ) need you as our guide and intercessor in heaven.

I wish I could tell myself that you will be back someday and will be back to be with me again. I guess this is the way life goes. God’s will must be accepted.

I miss a million things, every detail of who you are. I miss your mind , body and soul.

I still say I am one lucky man to have been given the gift of you.

There are many things I think I should have done for you. Please forgive me for procrastinating.

You thought me so much by your actions in the time we spent together.

You thought me the value of a family. You thought the value of the truest of love.

I know that I should not question God obviously because he He knows and has His reasons but I can’t help constantly asking myself “ Why did you have to die”? We have a number of dreams we hoped we will realize. You served God fervently. Anyway God knows best.

I take it you are the best of the roses in the garden and the almighty wants the best.

I know what you will love to hear and see and I will endeavor to always do those things.

I wonder if I had lived the way you did, if God would have taken me too?

They say only the good die in their prime.

Farewell my darling.

Good night.

A Special Birthday Tribute to Anthony Chidi: An Enigma Like No Other

By: Ike Philip Abiagom

Today, we celebrate not just your birth, but also your incredible contributions to mankind. Your unwavering dedication and commitment to your duty make you an inspiration to many people. Your leadership skills and visionary mindset have paved the way for aspiring leaders, showing them that with determination and hard work, anything is possible.

Indeed, to those who know him up close and personal, Tony is an enigma: humble, self-effacing, industrious, practical, efficient by nature, diligent, always thinking about things he needs to accomplish or how to get ahead on his next assignment, a complete Taurus, if you care to assess him by his Zodiac sign. But in plain terms, he is a case of a man who set out to always make a difference wherever he found himself. Not the kind of difference other men pursue to grandstand, but the type that impacts humanity and makes life easier for people. And of this, his track record is unassailable. A look back at his trajectory gives a chronicle of exemplary service to his community and a profile of pure patriotism from an individual.

Greatness is a property for which no man can receive credit too soon; it must be possessed long before it is acknowledged. ”When one of the world’s greatest thinkers, Ralph Waldo Emerson handed down the above words of wisdom, those he had in mind were certainly the likes of Anthony Chidi.

For the trail-blazing Personal Assistant to Ibusa born Philanthropist Pastor Idowu Okeze,it is certainly impossible to gloss over his attributes for greatness. He is the embodiment of cerebral articulation, the epitome of intellection and breathtaking simplicity, the personification of undiluted humanness, the perfect example of leadership symbolism, the paragon of idealism, the soul of humanity, the heart of warrior, a perfect gentleman, great men, he is without doubt, a rare masterpiece. Anyone who encounters him would love to associate with him for his candour, courage and forthrightness. As a human being, his humility and modesty is second to none,he is sound and engaging.

Anthony Chidi,he means different things to different people; while to us his admirers,he is known as the Digital Strategist, social media influencer, but his detractors always erroneously see him as an obstacle because of his rising profile and acceptance by the people.

Today, let me on behalf of my beloved Ibusa kingdom in Oshimili North Local government Area of Delta State celebrate our Personal Assistant to Ibusa born Philanthropist, Pastor Idowu Okeze and thank Almighty God for adding another year to his life and to pray that God continues to bless him with robust health, protection, and enduring provision. That is why on your birthday, You deserves a toast and song, “Happy birthday to you.
