Distribution of ITNs Begins in Oshimili South LGA

Residents of Asaba, in Oshimili South Local Government Area, on Monday converged on the various Primary Healthcare Centres in the area to receive the Insecticide Treated Nets provided by the National Malaria Elimination Program, in collaboration with the World Health Organization, Society for Family Health and other partners.

According to our reporter who monitored the distribution process at the Primary Healthcare Centre, Cable Point, Asaba, people had gathered to pick up the nets as early as 8am.

They were educated on how to use and care for the net by the Health Educator of the Centre, Mrs Osifo Spelling, who said the net should be spread under a shade for 24 hours before use in the home.

She explained that the nets were meant to be slept under to avoid mosquito bite and the resultant malaria, emphasizing that the nets must not be dumped nor put to wrong use.

Mrs Osifo said the net should be washed with mild soap and hanged under a shade to dry, and when torn, should only be mended with needle and thread.

Some household members who collected the nets, commended the federal and state governments, as well as the partners for the gesture and promised to put them to good use.

By: Ike Philip Abiagom

Most Distinguished Senator Peter Nwaoboshi

The Oracle turned Miracle of Delta Politics, the Odogwu of Anioma, the lion, king of the political jungle,a man who commands respect and inspiring awe without demanding it, even when the political jungle is turbulent ,Senator Nwaoboshi’s majesty remains unchallenged. Like him or hate him, Most Distinguished Senator Peter Onyelukachukwu Nwaoboshi(SPON) is an enigma. I am convinced that God has granted him a special grace to influence the course of events in this Delta for good.
There is no living Deltan leader who is like him in politics and I cannot easily remember any Delta leader who was quite like Oracl,He is unique in many respects.

When you ask for the list of good leaders Delta has or had, you will be amazed to also find Oracle’s name sitting pretty with such leaders. Again what did he do to merit this classification? You will hear: he started the war against equity in Delta State,His scorecard as a distinguished senator between 2015 to 2023 (Eight years)are mind-boggling,His pedigree and achievements as our senator cannot be quantified with any Delta North Senator dead or living, the vast majority of Anioma people look unto him as their tested, trusted leader, rescuer and solution provider. To our Anioma people, he is rightly the leader that has bailed Anioma nation from political and socio-economic stagnation at the red chambers(senate). His audacious entrance into the 2015 Senate race in the state is widely perceived as the best thing that ever happened to Delta North. He was among the founding fathers of PDP in Delta State, a party that ruled Delta State for 26 years, that is ORACLE for you.

Senator Nwaoboshi grasps the reigns of power, as Delta North’s most celebrated Senator of the 8th and 9th Assembly “THE SENATE”, blazing the trail since 2015 to 2023 and having carved a niche for himself as the most proactive and influential representative ever from Anioma Nation. But if you ask me, I will, like the man born blind who was healed by Jesus and whom the Jews pressed to declare Jesus a bad man declare as follows. Whether Oracle is a good leader or a bad one, I do not know. But what I know is that he is an enigma and has become like Elijah, the man that troubleth Delta politics. He is a man with robust political experience and wide range of political influence.

Last week he returned to his regular political beats he has been absent – the voice in the desert. The man who gives voice to the feelings of the people of Delta, a kind of prophet who speaks without fear but often with favour. The man who midwifed the emergence of the first Delta North governor in 2015.
Senator Nwaoboshi’s imminent return to Delta Politics has sparked jubilation in his town( Ibusa)local government and state with many of his political associates eagerly awaiting his return to take over his position as their supreme leader. He has remained a powerful and popular political figure with huge influence on politics in Delta and Nigeria.

As the 2027 general election is drawing closer, the politics of Delta State has taken a new dimension following the total transition of the entire state PDP to the ruling APC.The defection of Governor Sheriff Oborewori, Ifeanyi Okowa and the entire Peoples Democratic Party members in the state to the All Progressives Congress marks a significant turning point in the state’s politics. It was a shock to the people of the state last month when the news of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State and his predecessor, Ifeanyi Okowa’s defection, filtered through the town.
Senator Nwaoboshi has returned to reclaim his position as one of the true leaders of the Delta North and Oshimili politics. Politics, they say, is all about interest with no permanent enemy. You will see the true leadership of Senator Nwaoboshi.

OLINZELE TITLE: Not a Badge of Honor, It’s a Medal of Responsibility – Asagba of Asaba

The Olinzeles of Asaba have been reminded that the tile is not a badge of honor, but a medal of responsibility.

The Asagba of Asaba, His Royal Majesty, Asagba Prof Epiphany Azinge, SAN, OON FNIALS, made the remark when Obi Nwanyi, Chinwe Monu-Oduah, visited the palace to renew her oath of allegiance.

The Asagba emphasized that the Olinzele title was not meant to glamorize the holder, but to position him or her to shoulder the burden of responsibility, duty and obligation tied to it for the overall good of the community.

He explained that the renewal of the oath of allegiance was normal and in tune with the culture and traditions of the people, adding that it only involved swearing and affirming allegiance, not to any object, god nor deity, but as a moral duty, with no consequences attached.

The highly respected and influential traditional ruler, therefore, dismissed the notion that fetishism had overtaken religion in Asaba, stressing that he only continued with the trajectory he met, which had been there for over five decades.

Asagba Prof Azinge congratulated Obi Nwanyi Monu-Oduah on the historic renewal of the oath of allegiance, disclosing that she was the first female Olinzele to renew, and more fundamentally the first Obi to so do as an Olinzele.

He urged Obi Nwanyi Monu-Oduah, formerly a member of the Delta State House of Assembly, Commissioner for Commerce and Industry, as well as one-time Transition Committee Chairman of Oshimili South Local Government, and indeed other Olinzeles, to use their positions to promote, protect and defend the culture and traditions of the land.

The Asagba further congratulated the Obi Nwanyi on her recent election as the President of the Asaba Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (ASACCIMA) and urged her to use the position to positively impact the community.

Angry Women Boo Okowa At Empowerment Programme

Tension flared at a recent empowerment programme when a group of angry women openly booed former Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, at Idumuesah, Ika north east local government area of Delta State

The incident occurred during what was meant to be a celebration of women’s economic empowerment, but quickly turned sour as the women expressed frustration over unfulfilled promises and lack of tangible support from previous initiatives.

In the video which has since gone viral, women rose as soon as Okowa took the stage to address them to express their dissatisfaction, interrupting the event in demand for accountability and transparency.

Many claimed they had been repeatedly sidelined in past empowerment schemes.

Okowa, visibly unsettled, cut his speech short before he continued after intervention came through.

The event has since sparked widespread debate on the effectiveness of political portfolio empowerment programmes in the region.

It was gathered that Okowa was at the event on his continued ward-to-ward empowerment program, this time in Idumuesah, where he has consistently reached out to his constituents.

During this visit, some women raised concerns over the omission of their names from the empowerment list, reportedly due to lapses by the coordinators in charge.

The video circulating online actually shows the moment the women called out the organizers responsible for the exclusion, thereby preventing Okowa, from speaking in the viral video on circulation.

Delta Govt Presents Performance Scorecard Ahead of Oborevwori’s Second Anniversary

By: Ike Philip Abiagom

Delta State Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Mr. Charles Aniagwu, has highlighted the significant strides made by the Oborevwori administration in nearly two years in office.

Speaking at a press conference in Asaba on Thursday, Aniagwu, flanked by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Sir Festus Ahon, said the administration had left bold and remarkable footprints across the state, particularly in rural infrastructure and public service delivery.

“In almost two years, we can see very bold and remarkable achievements by Governor Oborevwori and his team. We have provided roads in various communities, reducing travel time from Asaba to Ughelli to just one hour and forty-five minutes”, Aniagwu said.

He also noted that development projects had reached many previously underserved coastal communities.

“We were at Ode-Itsekiri, where the Trans-Warri bridges and access roads to creek communities are progressing well.

“We have also revived work on the Ayakoromo bridge in Burutu Local Government Area, which will help connect several coastal communities to the upland”, he added.

As part of preparations to mark the administration’s second anniversary, Aniagwu announced that several projects had been lined up for inauguration, explaining, however, that due to the volume of completed projects, the Governor might not be able to commission all of them personally.

“Some of the key projects include the Beneku bridge, Ishiagu-Ewulu road and bridge, Upper and Lower Erejuwa roads in Warri, erosion control in Okpanam, Olomoro-Igbide road, Otolokpo to Boji-Boji Owa, Akumazi-Owere-Olubor road, and Obi-Ibabu road, among others.

“We have also installed medical equipment at the Asaba Specialist Hospital, Warri Central Hospital, and Delta State University Teaching Hospital in Oghara, all aimed at improving healthcare delivery and reducing medical tourism”, he said.

Aniagwu emphasized that some projects might be opened for public use without formal commissioning. “They are just too many. In some cases, members of the State Executive Council will be delegated to inaugurate projects”, he explained.

The Commissioner reiterated Governor Oborevwori’s commitment to the overall development of the state, saying that governance would not take a back seat even as political activities increased.

“Governor Oborevwori has instructed all cabinet members and agency heads to remain focused. Governance will not be sidelined. For every project executed, payment is made promptly after certification, showcasing our prudent approach to resource management”, Aniagwu assured.

He dismissed concerns from critics, stating, “Anyone suggesting that the administration is losing grip is far from the truth. The Governor remains committed to delivering results”.

On job creation, Aniagwu said the administration had empowered over 250,000 Deltans through various programmes coordinated by inter-ministerial departments and agencies, including the D-CARES grant initiative.

Addressing security, he noted that the state government had taken proactive steps to combat insecurity. “The Inspector General of Police was in the state recently to commission operational vehicles. We have also improved street lighting across urban centres”, he added.

On rising house rents in Asaba and other parts of the state, Aniagwu said the government was expanding habitable spaces through a housing scheme that included the construction of 50 residential units in each local government area. The pilot phase in Ozoro, Owa-Oyibu, and Kwale featured 30 three-bedroom flats and 20 two-bedroom flats.

He concluded by affirming that the administration would continue to operate with transparency, efficiency, and a people-centered focus, ensuring sustained progress across Delta State.
