Celebrating the Birthday of an Iconic Businessman, Ogom Nwaoboshi

Greatness is a property for which no man can receive credit too soon; it must be possessed long before it is acknowledged.”When one of the world’s greatest thinkers, Ralph Waldo Emerson handed down the above words of wisdom, those he had in mind were certainly the likes of Augustine Ogom Nwaoboshi (Gomboshi)!.

Indeed, to those who know him up close and personal, Gomboshi is an enigma: humble, self-effacing, industrious, practical, efficient by nature, diligent, always thinking about things he needs to accomplish or how to get ahead on his next assignment, a complete Cancer, if you care to assess him by his Zodiac sign. But in plain terms, he is a case of a man who set out to always make a difference wherever he found himself. Not the kind of difference other men pursue to grandstand, but the type that impacts humanity and makes life easier for people. And of this, his track record is unassailable. A look back at his trajectory gives a chronicle of exemplary service to his community and a profile of pure patriotism from an individual.

For the trail-blazing Business mogul from Ibusa, Delta State, it is certainly impossible to gloss over his attributes for greatness. He is a perfect example of business leadership symbolism, the paragon of idealism, the soul of humanity, the heart of warrior, a perfect gentleman.

Augustine ogom Nwaoboshi is one of those very few good men; an accomplished businessman,An Iconic Figure, An International Businessman, A leader, A promoter of Peace in whom I am well pleased ,a man of valour, the bringer of rain.In the gallery of great leaders and great men, he is without doubt, a rare masterpiece. Anyone who encounters him would love to associate with him for his candour, courage and forthrightness. As a human being, his humility and modesty is second to none. As an Businessman, he is sound and engaging.

He means different things to different people; to his wife and children,he is a loving husband and a kind daddy, while to us his admirers he is known as the Digital Business Strategist but his detractors always erroneously see him as an Obstacle because of his rising profile in business and acceptance by the grassroots.

Indeed the birthday celebration of this digital Businessman of our time had been useful and Resourceful for his service to humanity. Therefore today let me on behalf of the Association of Community Newspaper Publishers of Nigeria(ACNPN) and Newsbreeze Magazine join the rest of my beloved Ibusa kingdom in Oshimili North Local government Area of Deltans and Nigerians at large to Celebrate our Business iconoclastic Gomboshi International,to thank Almighty God for adding another year to his life and to pray that he continues to bless him with robust health ,protection, and enduring provision. Your business reign shall bring prosperity and peace to Ibusa and your family.

Happy birthday to the regent, GOMBOSHI INTERNATIONAL.

Why Dein Of Agbor Is Opposed To Grouping Anioma Into The South East Region

The agitation for the creation of Anioma State, which would carve out the Anioma people from Delta State, has sparked diverse reactions. One voice that stands out is that of the revered traditional ruler, the Dein of Agbor, Benjamin Ikenchuku Keagborekuzi I, who has consistently opposed the grouping of Anioma into the South East region of Nigeria. His opposition is rooted in cultural, political, and geographical reasons, as well as the desire to maintain the distinct identity of the Anioma people.

The term ‘Anioma’ is an acronym derived from the four original local government areas that made up Anioma: (A) for Aniocha, (N) for Ndokwa, (I) for Ika and (O) for Oshimili, while the M and A were deliberately added to the acronym for ease of pronunciation. As gathered, the term was coined in 1951 by Chief Dennis Osadebay, one of the founding fathers of Delta State, and has remained the preferred indigenous name by which the people collectively refer themselves to. Anioma is located in the West Basin of River Niger, Delta State of Nigeria, and occupies a landmass of about 6,300km². It is a region that is also largely blessed with oil deposits particularly Ndokwa land, Akumazi, Umunede, Ute-Okpu, Ute-Erume, Ute-Ogbeje.

The Anioma people are ethnically Igbo but have evolved distinct traditions that blend elements from the western Delta, Edo, and Igbo cultural spheres. The Dein of Agbor has always highlighted the importance of preserving this distinctiveness. His opposition to aligning Anioma with the South East is based on the belief that such a move would blur the rich diversity of the Anioma heritage.

The cultural ties between the Anioma people and their neighbors in Edo and Delta are crucial to their identity. Unlike the states in the South East, Anioma has more fluid and historical connections to its neighboring regions in Delta and Edo, as seen in their traditional institutions, intermarriages, and shared customs. This uniqueness, according to the Dein, would be overshadowed if Anioma is politically categorised as part of the South East.

Politically, the Dein of Agbor’s opposition also stems from the geographical placement of Anioma. The region, located on the western bank of the River Niger, has historically been part of the Mid-Western Region and later Bendel State, now Delta State. Aligning Anioma with the South East, which is located east of the River Niger, presents logistical and administrative challenges.

Moreover, Anioma shares more political alignment with the South-South region, which includes Delta, Edo, Rivers, Bayelsa, Cross River, and Akwa Ibom States. The Dein has pointed out that the strategic interests of Anioma, in terms of political representation, economic development, and access to resources, are better served within the South-South region. Categorizing Anioma into the South East could marginalise the region politically and economically.

To the highly revered monarch, Anioma’s categorisation into the South East also poses the risk of political marginalisation. The South East already comprises five states, Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu, and Imo, and has a well-established political structure. Anioma’s integration into this region may result in the dilution of its voice within the political landscape. As part of the South-South, Anioma is already a key player, especially in Delta State, where it has produced influential political figures, including former state governors and federal representatives.

The Dein’s stance emphasises that Anioma would face stiff competition for political relevance if categorised into the South East. In contrast, within the South-South, Anioma enjoys better leverage and representation, particularly in Delta State, where its political contributions are more significant.

The Dein of Agbor also raises concerns about the economic implications of Anioma’s inclusion in the South East. Anioma is a vital part of Delta State’s economy, contributing significantly to agriculture, commerce, and industry. The region’s proximity to the Niger Delta has fostered its involvement in oil and gas activities, which are more aligned with the South-South’s economic framework.

Placing Anioma in the South East could disrupt these economic ties, particularly in terms of revenue sharing, infrastructural development, and resource management. The Dein’s vision is to see Anioma flourish within an economic system that respects its contributions and ensures equitable development. The South-South’s focus on oil wealth and its position as Nigeria’s economic powerhouse provide Anioma with more opportunities for growth and prosperity.

Ultimately, the Dein of Agbor’s opposition to categorising Anioma into the South East boils down to maintaining Anioma’s identity. The region’s people have strived to assert their uniqueness despite being surrounded by larger ethnic groups. The Dein believes that being part of the South East, where the dominant Igbo identity often overshadows smaller groups, could lead to the erosion of Anioma’s distinctiveness.

Anioma’s cultural diversity is a source of pride, and the Dein’s position reflects a desire to safeguard that heritage for future generations. He advocates for Anioma to remain in a region where its identity is respected and celebrated, rather than absorbed into a larger entity where its voice may be diminished.

The Dein of Agbor, Benjamin Ikenchuku Keagborekuzi I, continues to stand as a vocal advocate for the preservation of Anioma’s cultural and political identity. His opposition to categorizing Anioma into the South East is grounded in a vision of maintaining the distinctiveness of his people, ensuring political representation, and fostering economic development. As the debate over the creation of Anioma State and its regional alignment continues, the Dein’s perspective serves as a reminder of the complexities involved in state creation and regional integration in Nigeria. The future of Anioma rests not only in its political alignment but in the preservation of its rich cultural heritage and identity.

Unarguably reasserting his position on the issue, the monarch at the Stakeholders Summit organised by the lawmaker representing Delta North at the National Assembly, Senator Ned Nwoko, in Asaba, Delta State capital, recently, in his speech thanked Senator Nwoko for the move and reminded him of the need to keep politics out of the Anioma State Movement, stressing the “importance of the state and how it is a dream for all ethnicities (Ika, Ndokwa, and Aniocha-Oshimili) within the Anioma hegemony.”

He also advised the lawmaker to keep the movement for creation of the State from disintegrating Nigeria considering the move is being hijacked by some loyalists of separatist group, IPOB, seeking to create their own country out of Nigeria.

This further remphasised the stance of Ika people since Sen Ned Nwoko proposed the bill for creation of the State;

Onu Ika, the top socio cultural and political organisation representing the Ika Ethnic Nation- “The state will only be considered if it is in the old Midwestern region/ South South Region, and not the South East.”

Ikoro Agbor, Agbor Youths group said “Agbor Kingdom has no shared history, governing commonality, or association with the Igbo, before or after British Colonialism and Agbor Kingdom remain United in the quest for Anioma State”

The monarch also warned against grouping Anioma as one of the states in the South-East geopolitical zone upon creation, noting that Anioma, particularly Ika people would prefer to remain as part South-South region.

Asagba of Asaba to Ned Nwoko: ‘We Will Stand by You in Anioma State Fight’

HRM {Obi}Professor Epiphany Azinge,SAN,OON 14th Asagba of Asaba Kingdom

The Asagba of Asaba,  Prof. Epiphany Azinge has emphasized the need for proper territorial delineation in the ongoing discussions on the creation of Anioma State, stressing that the people of Anioma are not willing to be merged across the Niger. He maintained that Anioma must remain within the South-South geopolitical zone.

Despite this stance, the revered monarch assured that Asaba would remain steadfast in its support, regardless of how the state creation process unfolds.

“…whichever way it goes, know that we from Asaba will always queue behind you. We will be your cheerleaders, supporting you,” the Asagba assured.

He pledged Asaba’s full participation in the advocacy for Anioma State, stating, “Invite us for your public hearing, we will come. Whatever it is, we will make a formidable case that will be difficult to puncture in order to support you and your submission.”

Commending the leadership and unwavering commitment of Senator Ned Nwoko to the Anioma cause, the monarch described his confidence as “indescribable” and prayed for his continued success in realizing the dreams of the Anioma people.

In his response, Senator Ned Nwoko reiterated that the proposed Anioma State comprises only the nine local government areas (LGAs) of Delta North, reaffirming that the movement remains committed to that framework.

“It is important to note that when our forefathers started this struggle, there was nothing like zoning in Nigeria. It later came just as a political nomenclature to address some imbalances in zoning some important offices in Nigeria—Office of the President, the Vice President, the Senate President, the Deputy Senate President, the Speaker, the Deputy Speaker,” he explained.

Senator Nwoko further clarified that while Anioma is politically classified under the South-South, its cultural and historical affiliations differ significantly from other states in the zone.

“Anioma is in South-South, but what do we have in common with Bayelsa, Rivers, Akwa-Ibom, Cross River, or Edo that we currently share the same zone with? The idea of being part of the South-East should not be confused with our identity,” he stated.

The renewed push for Anioma State continues to gain traction, with stakeholders emphasizing unity and historical identity as the foundation for the proposed state’s creation.

Community Newspaper Publishers Disowns Gov Oborevwori’s SSA

DISCLAIMER

The attention of the Association Of Community Newspapers Publishers, ACNPN, was recently drawn to some visitations by the SSA (Senior Special Assistant) to the Delta State Governor on Community Newspapers, Mr. Prince Orhomokpaye, to some prominent Public Office holders and distinguished Deltans, during which he was accompanied by certain persons mischievously and deceitfully described as “Publishers of Community Newspapers”.

On closer scrutiny of the identities of the members of his delegation, we discovered to our chagrin, that these persons so described as “Publishers of Community Newspapers” were at best, known Journalists and Reporters, writing for some mid-level Online News portals and platforms which are neither affiliated to nor registered as Community Newspapers and therefore, have no ties with ACNPN whatsoever.

Members of ACNPN, disturbed by this dubious activity of the SSA to the State Governor (Community Newspapers), Mr. Prince Orhomokpaye and having taken due cognizance of the immediate and wider implications of impersonating the Association in his visits, arrived at the following resolutions:

  1. While we do not begrudge Mr. Orhomokpaye his right to undertake any visitation in his capacity as SSA to the Governor on Community Newspapers, we however seriously frown at and take great exception to his fraudulent action of visiting innocent public office holders and prominent citizens in the state, with a delegation masquerading as Community Newspapers Publishers and impersonating ACNPN, with the objective and motive of attaching some credibility to his delegation and subsequently exhorting huge financial largess and pecuniary gratification from his unsuspecting hosts, who have severally fallen for this fraudulent scam.
  2. We want to categorically state that as the substantive and duly recognized umbrella body of Community Newspapers Publishers in the State, the ACNPN has never been informed or invited by any official correspondence from the SSA, Mr. Orhomokpaye, to either join him or participate in any of his courtesy visits. We therefore strongly dissociate the ACNPN from his fraudulent activities and state clearly for the avoidance of doubt, that the persons in his delegation to such visits are neither publishers of any community newspapers in the state, nor members of the ACNPN, Delta state chapter.
  3. This DISCLAIMER is therefore to caution Mr. Prince Orhomokpaye to desist forthwith from the fraudulent penchant of impersonating and associating Delta Community Newspapers Publishers in whatever subsequent courtesy visits he intends to embark on with the obvious intent to achieve some quick financial gains. He is seriously warned to stop tarnishing the image and credibility of ACNPN in the state with such visits.

We also urge his next unsuspecting hosts to formally demand, by way of appropriate and mandatory introductions, the proper designations in the ACNPN leadership, of those in Mr. Orhomokpaye’s delegation claiming to be Community Newspapers Publishers,in order to establish the authenticity of their claims.

Please be informed that the ACNPN will not be part of any courtesy visit without the physical presence of it’s state Chairman, or at least, a couple of members of it’s Executive Council, to properly represent the umbrella body of Community Newspapers Publishers in the state in such an official engagement.

We hereby urge top public and political office holders, elected or appointed, as well as other distinguished Deltans, who will be the next likely targets, to beware of hosting or entertaining any group claiming to be Community Newspapers Publishers.

The SSA to the Governor, Mr. Prince Orhomokpaye, can embark on such visits in his official capacity as an appointee of the state government, but should desist henceforth, from parading himself with persons masquerading as and impersonating Community Newspapers Publishers in his fraudulent and nefarious escapades.

MORIBUND ISSELE-UKU GARMENT FACTORY: Hope Rising for Reactivation of Facility As DeltaBridge Consortium Moves In

The abandoned Delta State-owned multi – trade entrepreneurship centre, otherwise known as the Issele-Uku Garment Factory, in Aniocha North Local Government Area, will soon come back to life, courtesy of the state government’s concession plan.

According to our reporter who visited the centre recently, the Concessioneer, DeltaBridge Ltd, has commenced the clearing of the overgrown weeds in the premises and has engaged the services of some artisans to fix the distrepaired facilities in the Administrative Block, where serious cleaning work was going on at the time of the visit.

The General Manager of DeltaBridge, Nnamdi Samuel, who conducted newsmen round the moribund factory, said the Consortium was happy to take over the running of the centre, and was currently focusing on making the environment habitable to be able to have a clearer view of the level of damage done to the facility and ascertain to what extent the Administrative Block could be fixed, pending its official handing over.

Asked what the facility was like before they moved in, the GM said, “Basically the facility from the time we started bidding for it and when we saw it after the concession was done was a milestone of retrogression. It was a hugely dilapidated structure with everything that was in it almost gone.

“I can say clearly that there is no single electrical wiring in this place; no single electrical accessory, no air conditioner, no office chairs and tables. Most of the machines are gone. Most of the glasses, refrigerators and freezers are gone. In the garment section all the sewing and weaving machines are gone. The bakery, garri processing machines, generators, transformers and virtually every other thing at the centre have been completely vandalized.

“It’s almost like saying that we are building the place from scratch. The only thing left is block and roof. But the truth is that the vision is clear. Even if they give us an empty floor we will still come up with something because the goal is simple: Ensure that this facility comes back to life. And bringing it back to life is something that will help Delta State to create jobs, especially in the local environment, and boost internally generated revenue.

“There is a global market awaiting what we will be producing here. Once we start running, Akwa Ocha, royal beeds and accessories, luxury leather works and shoes, jackets and belts will be byproducts of this facility and they are export commodities. So we are looking at a bigger picture.

“It is painful that we have to go lower than where we ought to be to start off instead of standing on an already existing platform. This has only taken us aback from our projection, but the truth is that we are not deterred, we are not perplexed, it is not derailing us from the goal of ensuring that the facility is up and running, that lives are changed and that the MORE agenda of the Oborevwori administration is felt in ailing industries in the state”.

He explained that the revitalization of the centre would be done in phases, pointing out that the Consortium and its enterprise groups would only pull their strength and might to get the place running after taking over.

Mr Nnamdi revealed that Brijtopnet would be handling the garment section of the factory, Dyskon Smart Ltd, the ICT section; Sunset Bakery and Equipment, the bakery section; Awolor Bespoke, the shoe and leather works section, while PharmaChoice would be responsible for the juice and food processing section.

While saying that he would not apportion blame on anyone for the running aground of the centre, Mr Nnamdi emphasized that the success of the venture was supposed to have been a collective responsibility, assuring that the Consortium would do everything possible to avoid the pitfalls that led to the present state of the facility.
