Residents of Uda Layout Community in Asaba, Delta State, have cried out to the Delta State Government over the deplorable condition of their major access road, which they described as abandoned despite repeated appeals for rehabilitation.

The residents, who spoke to journalists during a visit to the area, lamented that the road, which links several adjoining streets and serves hundreds of households, has become almost impassable, especially during the rainy season.
According to them, the once-promising road project that began several years ago has been left uncompleted, leaving the community in hardship. They complained that the bad condition of the road has affected transportation, business activities, and even emergency access to the area.
A community leader, Mr. Sunday Okechukwu, expressed disappointment that despite their numerous letters and visits to relevant authorities, nothing concrete has been done to address their plight.
“We are law-abiding citizens and loyal supporters of the present administration. All we are asking is that government remembers us. The road has become a nightmare for residents and motorists,” he said.
Another resident, Mrs. Nkem Edafe, a trader in the area, noted that the poor road network has increased transport fares and destroyed many vehicles.
“Whenever it rains, we are practically cut off from other parts of Asaba. Drivers refuse to enter our community because the road is too bad,” she lamented.
The residents, therefore, appealed to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori to urgently direct the Ministry of Works or the relevant agency to resume work on the road, stressing that they have endured neglect for too long.
They also called on the Asaba Capital Territory Development Agency (ACTDA) to intervene and ensure the completion of the project, describing it as a matter of fairness and inclusion.
Community members expressed optimism that the Oborevwori administration, known for its “MORE Agenda” of infrastructure and urban renewal, would come to their aid and complete the long-abandoned road.
