The advent of social media has changed the face of public relations practice in the globe and has created a new vista for organizations in Nigeria to communicate with the publics. The adoption of social media as tools for public relations practice across the globe has increased tremendously based on its inherent benefits. This has resulted in the usage of social media as tactics for public relations practitioners to carry out their functions.

ple of Oshimili North (POON) Social media platforms have become a prominent part of public relations for the people, the social media platform is an excellent platform created nine years ago to dissemination information within Oshimili north local government and the general public. POON group activities have gone beyond Social Media interaction, objective engagement, cross-fertilization of ideas and had metamorphosed into life saving humanitarian and society development initiatives and also ready to advance to Community Legacy cum Developmental Programmes, more Humanitarian Service activities, Community Sensitization Programme, Education and Health Support Projects and Human Resource’s Development (Capacity Building) programme for a more better and refined society.
According to Mr Kizito Ijeh, who said that POON has been at forefront of promoting brotherliness across board for over nine years,a legacy which it is committed to maintaining and urged all members to sustain the tempo in order to strengthen their bond of unity. POON just marked its 2024 end of the year party at Obi Nwaokocha Okeze Event Centre and the occasion was Chaired by Pastor Idowu Okeze.
The Chairman of the event Pastor Okeze thanked members of the club for maintaining a high level of discipline and being good ambassadors even as he expressed gratitude to God for the success of the outgoing year and his protection upon members. He said the gathering was an opportunity for members to once again unwind and network as they prayed for the success of every member in the 2025 fiscal year in their various endeavours.
Guests were in high spirit along with their family members and loved ones. They wined and dined in happiness for the mercy of God that brought them till the end of the year. Performances from artistes present and other singers got the high profile members of the platform on the dance floor to exhibit their dance skills.
There were lots of fun, entertainment and comedy which got guests rolling in laughter. Also, members of POON took over the dance floor and exhibited their skills to the amazement of their husbands.
High point of the event was the installation of Most Distinguished Senator Peter Nwaoboshi’s Special Aide,Comrade Leo Nkeaka as POON new male Ambassador and Tonia Chukwuedo as POON female Ambassador. Ambassador Leo has reiterated the group’s commitment to continuously engage in projects that meet the challenges of the society as POON is known for her significant Projects and Service Activities year in year out.
Nkeaka, disclosed this recently, during his installation as the POON Ambassador for the year 2024/25. While commending the members for its selfless service, commitment and sacrifice to humanity, he further congratulated the immediate past ambassadors for their board’s successful tenure, while urging them to be of assistance to new ambassadors. Nkeaka promised to build more on what his predecessor has done.
‘’As a proponent of community empowerment, I will use my talent, treasure and time to uplift the needy’ ’,He added that their administration will also focus on education and empowerment of the less fortunate’ in Oshimili North.
There are countless opportunities to make a difference to those less fortunate than ourselves whilst providing friendship, both locally and worldwide, fun and entertainment as well as personal and business growth and development. By combining our skills and resources, members of POON are able to make a real contribution to the lives of others fulfilling the Service above Self.
