In a time when community-driven impact is more vital than ever, the Obi Nwaokocha Okeze Foundation has emerged as a beacon of hope for the people of Igbuzo and surrounding communities. Founded a few years ago by Pastor Idowu Chukwudi Okeze, the foundation has steadily built a reputation for compassion, consistency, and meaningful grassroots development.
From its inception, the foundation has focused on uplifting the less privileged, widows, the elderly, and young people striving for a better future. Its reach and influence have been remarkable, touching thousands of lives across multiple sectors. While its list of achievements continues to grow, a few standout initiatives highlight its unwavering commitment to service.
One of its most notable efforts is the empowerment of over 2,000 youths through the provision of tricycles (popularly known as “keke”), creating sustainable sources of income and reducing unemployment. In addition, market women have benefited from cash empowerment programmes designed to boost small-scale businesses and strengthen local economies.
Education has also been a key priority. The foundation has awarded scholarships to students in both secondary schools and universities, helping to ease the financial burden on families and ensuring that deserving students can pursue their academic dreams. In further support of academic excellence and youth development, the Obi Nwaokocha Okeze Foundation organises quarterly inter-school debates in Igbuzo, encouraging intellectual engagement and healthy competition among students. The foundation also celebrates Children’s Day every 27th of May, creating memorable experiences and promoting the wellbeing of young people in the community.
Beyond scholarships, the foundation has empowered more than 100 Igbuzo indigenes through skill acquisition programmes across various fields, providing each beneficiary with starter packs to help them establish their trades and become self-reliant.
Healthcare interventions by the foundation have been equally impactful. Through its initiative, the Cido Asthma Foundation, free treatment and medication are provided to asthma patients, offering relief and hope to many who otherwise could not afford care. The foundation has also consistently paid hospital bills for those in need and, in a landmark effort last year, enrolled 1,000 Igbuzo indigenes into the Delta State Healthcare Insurance Scheme.
Infrastructure and welfare projects further underscore the foundation’s holistic approach to development. From constructing roads and providing boreholes for clean water, to building homes for the homeless and distributing food to vulnerable populations, the foundation has remained deeply rooted in addressing the everyday needs of the people.
Sports development is also a vital part of the foundation’s agenda. Each year, it organises inter-school football competitions across Igbuzo, fostering unity, teamwork, and talent discovery among young people, while strengthening community bonds.
In recognition of its outstanding contributions, the Obi Nwaokocha Okeze Foundation has received numerous prestigious awards from reputable organisations, further affirming its impact and commitment to humanitarian service across Nigeria.
The Obi Nwaokocha Okeze Foundation continues to stand out as a model of effective grassroots intervention, driven by a genuine desire to improve lives. Its work serves as an inspiration and a reminder of what is possible when leadership meets compassion.
As the foundation presses forward, the people of Igbuzo and beyond have every reason to celebrate and support this remarkable initiative, while commending Pastor Idowu Chukwudi Okeze for his vision and dedication to humanity.
