Oborevwori committed to functional, quality education in Delta – Aniagwu 
Delta State Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Mr Charles Aniagwu, has reaffirmed Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s dedication to providing functional and high-quality education across the state. 
 
Aniagwu who emphasized the importance of equipping students with the skills and knowledge needed for a competitive future, disclosed this on a national television programme monitored in Asaba, the state capital at the weekend. 
 
The Commissioner who was reacting to questions regarding the challenges of proceeding with construction on the abandoned Sapele Polytechnic at Deghele-Iriabome communities, Elume District in Sapele LGA, assured of Governor Oborevwori’s continued investment in the education sector. 
 
According to him, there is the need to understand the issue of functionality, education is not like opening a biscuit shop were everybody can come and buy biscuits. 
 
“There is a reason for establishing institutions and i told you that we needed to look at the issues of quality and functionality as part of the aftermath of the 2016 education summit organized by the state government”. 
 
“We had education summit in 2016 and we brought in professionals from across the country to assist us on a need assessment in the education sector and to make sure that our students do not remain in school more than necessary due to strikes”. 
 
“The main goal of that summit was to ensure that our students get the kind of quality education that can position them to compete globally. Our education philosophy is to have accessible and functional institutions and not just to establish higher institutions that could make us to be seen to be politically correct”.
 
“Prior to the establishment of three new universities by the Ifeanyi Okowa led administration, we had three Polytechnics in Ogwashi-Uku, Ozoro and Otefe-Oghara. These polytechnics were established in the three Senatorial districts and that is in addition to three colleges of education in the three Senatorial districts. 
 
“We had the main campus of the Delta State University in Central Senatorial District with other campuses in the South and the North”. 
 
“So what we did as a government is to continue in the assessment of what we need, not to play politics. If you go and establish three polytechnics and you have 300 hundred students in one and possibly 500 lecturers and at the end of the day it becomes mushroom, how have you helped the state with that? 
 
The Commissioner said the new universities were established based on a feasibility study which indicated the trend students were gravitating to. 
 
“When we examined the trend we saw that many persons want to navigate towards University education and the University we had did not have enough carrying capacity. 
 
“It was on the basis of that we established three additional universities with the Polytechnic at Ozoro converted to Delta State University of Science and Technology and later Southern Delta University, the campus at Asaba became Dennis Osadebay University and the College of Education at Agbor converted to University of Delta. 
 
“In Nigeria today, no state can boost of the number of state owned higher institutions that we have to the extent that out of our ten federal constituencies, nine have higher institutions. 
 
“In the last nine and half years, no higher institution in Delta has embarked on any strike. All the strikes you have seen across the federation our schools don’t join. 
 
“They don’t join because we try to meet up with those demands to ensure functionality of our institutions. We don’t just say go and put a polytechnic or a university somewhere without having a feasibility study. 
 
“It was a feasibility study that revealed university education had become much more attractive to our people and that was why we went that way. 
 
“We have not jettisoned the establishment of more institutions but we needed to move steadily such that we do not bite more than we can chew per time.” 
 
Speaking further, Aniagwu said a campus of the Southern Delta University was established at Orerokpe in the same federal constituency with Sapele and using facilities from the Technical College being constructed by the State Government.
 
“Governor Oborevwori has been running fast and steadily on the lane of functional and efficient education system that caters to the needs of the present and future”.
 
“As an administration, we do not have intention to abolish any institution so established but we will remain unwavering in our efforts at proceeding with educational needs assessment” 
He said the Oborevwori administration would continue to promote the trajectory of quality and functional education for Deltans in line with the administration’s MORE Agenda.

Sen. Ned Nwoko’s people pass vote of confidence on Oborevwori

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP Ward 8 comprising Idumuje Unor, Idumuje Ugboko and Aniofu, has passed a vote of implicit confidence in Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State for “his  humane leadership style, promotion of  peaceful co-existence and sustainable development across the State.”

This was part of resolutions reached at a meeting of the Ward leaders and other stakeholders held Friday at Idumuje Unor in Aniocha North Local Government Area.

The confidence vote, while it may appear to demonstrate unity and support for the governor, raises questions about its true purpose, motivations, and long-term implications for the political landscape of Aniocha North and Delta State at large.

First, it is essential to understand the context in which the confidence vote took place. Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, who was elected as the governor of Delta State in the 2023 general elections, has faced various challenges in solidifying his hold on power within the state. These challenges stem from both internal party issues and external factors that question his mandate.

Critics have raised concerns about his political strategies, governance style, and perceived ineffectiveness. However, in an attempt to bolster his position, Oborevwori has actively sought political endorsements, particularly from grassroots political structures like local government councils and wards. The confidence vote in Aniocha North Ward 8 can be understood as part of this larger effort.

For a confidence vote to be a genuine expression of support, it must reflect the sentiments of the people being polled. However, the reality in many of these local-level political moves, such as the one in Aniocha North, is that they are orchestrated by party elites or political godfathers who have vested interest in maintaining control.

In the case of Aniocha North Ward 8, the confidence vote was likely influenced by party leaders who want to secure their position in the governor’s administration. By publicly endorsing Oborevwori, these local leaders want to demonstrate their loyalty, securing their access to patronage, resources, and political appointments. Thus, the vote may not have been an authentic reflection of the local populace’s views but rather a calculated political maneuver by those seeking to maintain their influence and power within the state’s political system.

Furthermore, the timing of the confidence vote is also telling. Political moves like these are often strategically timed to coincide with periods of political uncertainty or when a leader’s popularity is waning. In this instance, the vote in support of Oborevwori might have been an attempt to stave off growing criticisms of his leadership and shore up support at the grassroots level. Such moves are typically seen as efforts to create an illusion of stability and unity within the party, even when there are underlying issues or fractures that are being ignored or downplayed. By showcasing the vote as a resounding endorsement, Oborevwori and his allies are presenting an image of cohesion to the public, despite knowing that the image does not fully align with the reality on the ground.

The potential consequences of framing the confidence vote as window dressing are significant. It risks undermining genuine democratic engagement and dialogue, as it presents a false narrative of popular support. Instead of addressing real concerns about governance, leadership, and accountability, the vote reinforces the idea that politics in the region operates primarily through patronage and the manipulation of political symbols for short-term gain. This approach to politics can be detrimental in the long run, as it stifles real debate and policy discussions that could lead to effective governance.

Moreover, the use of window dressing tactics in politics can alienate the electorate and breed cynicism. Voters who perceive such political moves as insincere may become disillusioned with the political system altogether, believing that their voices and concerns are being sidelined in favor of political elites looking to maintain their hold on power. This disillusionment can manifest in lower voter turnout, a lack of trust in political institutions, and an overall weakening of democratic processes.

In the case of Aniocha North Ward 8, the confidence vote may have been designed to protect the political interests of local leaders rather than addressing the real needs of the people. It serves to reinforce a political narrative that may not reflect the true sentiments of the electorate. The superficial endorsement of Oborevwori’s leadership, presented as a unified declaration of support, may ultimately do more harm than good, as it can lead to the masking of genuine issues within the local political structure.

The people who passed the confidence vote in the governor seemed to be helpless. Helpless in the sense that they have no choice of their own. Even if deep in their hearts they are not willing to do it, they just have to do it to please the governor. The confidence vote is a fake narrative to seek political patronage. It is done by people who must eat from the crumbs of the governor.

While the confidence vote may have been presented overtly as an expression of popular support, it is crucial to view it through the lens of political window dressing. The vote is more about appearances, loyalty, and maintaining control within the political elite, rather than a genuine reflection of the will of the people. As such, it raises important questions about the state of democratic practices in Delta State and the broader implications of such political tactics for the future of governance in the region.

This gesture by Nigerian- American International Ruby Star Dr. Freddie Henry-Ajudua is part of his ongoing efforts to support talented youth across Nigeria, offering opportunities for both educational and athletic advancement. Over the years, Freddie Henry-Ajudua has consistently upheld its mission to develop well-rounded young athletes, ensuring they receive not only ruby training but also educational support.

Omo-Agege charges Oshimili North APC faithful on unity, commitment to party

Immediate past Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, has tasked the All Progressives Congress (APC) leaders and faithful in Delta State to show commitment to the party by working to eschew rancour and unify the party ahead of 2027 general elections.

Omo-Agege who is the Obarisi of Urhoboland stated this at Ibusa, Oshimili North Local Government Area, during an enlarged meeting of leaders and stakeholders of APC drawn from all the wards. Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, the Deputy President of the 9th Senate and former Delta State APC governorship candidate, has assured that the perceived crisis among Delta State APC leaders will soon be resolved.

Speaking at a stakeholders’ meeting with APC elders, leaders, and members in Ibusa, Omo-Agege commended party members for their resilience in the 2023 elections.

He attributed the APC’s loss in the 2023 governorship election to the PDP’s alleged compromise of the electoral process, rather than a lack of support. Omo-Agege urged party leaders in Oshimili to unite, emphasizing the significance of the opposition’s win of two senatorial seats in Delta, adding ‘that we could have secured all three if not for Senator Peter Nwaoboshi’s ordeal.’

‘We need everybody to come together and work as a team because the end of one election marks the beginning of another. I appeal to you all-let us put aside our differences and focus on what unites us. No one enters an election divided and expects to win’ he said.

He stressed that APC must remain focused on its mission, emphasizing the need for unity, discipline, and strategic planning to overcome the PDP’s influence. Omo-Agege reaffirmed his support for President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, stating we must also win Delta State for APC in the presidential election in 2027 to sustain the country’s economic transformation of President Tinubu Renewed Hope Agenda.

‘The agenda has already yielded significant gains, including higher revenue for states and local governments, better economic growth rates, declining imports, higher exports, and higher income for farmers. To sustain this momentum and ensure the long term growth and development of our country, it’s crucial we reelect President Tinubu in 2027′ he said.

According to the APC Oshimili North Chairman, Hon. Austin Nnabuife aka Political Ojeogbue which presented a speech on behalf of the local government to welcome past Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, said that APC must not dwell on past election mistakes,’ Nnabuife said. ‘We must work harder to ensure victory in 2027. Overcoming the PDP’s influence requires unity, discipline, and strategic planning. We cannot simply rest on the outcome of the last election. We must continue to strive to change it, to ensure that APC prevails in Delta in 2027. To overcome the challenges posed by the PDP, we need unity and collective action. I encourage you all to rise above sentiments and distractions, focusing instead on our shared goal of defeating the PDP.

‘I assure you that efforts will be made to bring everybody on board to ensure a united front against the PDP in the next election. We are committed to APC 100 percent and willing and ready to work with all the leaders and members of the party and supporters of our party.’

After the party Chairman’s speech, the floor was opened for contributions and reactions from party leaders present at the Ibusa APC meeting ,Hon. Pat Mozea, High Chief Nelson Agbamuche,Odoziani of Akwukwu Igbo, Ogbuenyi Felix Ndukwe, Chief Kizito Ijeh, Onowu (Dr)Chris Ugo, Barr Emeka Okolie aka Isimili Atata, Hon. Henry Mordi, and Hon.Leo Nkeaka all spoke in the same direction of urging the party to be more focused and united for 2027 general election.

Omo-Agege thanked the people of Oshimili North for their supported in the last election, urged them not to give up but to continue to support the party in future elections at all levels.

Prof (Obi)Epiphany Chigbogu Azinge, SAN, OON, the Asagba of Asaba, Asagba has vowed to restore the lost glory of the popular Cable-Point axis of Asaba

Speaking at a reception organized in his honour by the various communities resident in the area on Monday, His Royal Majesty, Asagba Prof Azinge, said Cable-Point was rooted in history as once a centre of attraction and a centre of commerce where notable elites, including the late Premier of the defunct Midwest region, Chief Dennis Osadebay, lived.

The highly esteemed traditional ruler pointed out that the gathering was significant as it provided an opportunity to reconnect with history and the past, as it concerned the settlement.

He stressed that to abandon Cable-Point would amount to abandoning a very rich part of Asaba history, reiterating the resolve of the community under his reign not to abandon the area, but to rebuild it.

The Asagba highlighted the hydra-headed problem of insecurity in Cable-Point, which he noted had turned the area to a near theatre of conflict that must be properly managed, controlled and handled to avoid any escalation of violence in Asaba erupting from there.

According to the Monarch: “We are here to forestall any such eventuality, to make sure that it doesn’t happen. And the only way that it will not happen is for you people to take responsibility, to know how to confront some of these emergencies, and to take the bull by the horn early in the day.

” We are also here for another reason that is not impressive at all. We are here because Cable-Point, with the intelligence available to us, is more or less a drug infested area. Most of the drugs peddled in Asaba have their roots here in Cable-Point. And that’s why we are saying that enough is enough and that we are only going to give one week notice to all those involved before we start raiding suspected places.

” So let it not be lost on any of us that we know why we are here. We are duly informed and we are here for a purpose. We are here for a mission and that mission is to send this message to all the people residing in Cable-Point that yes Asaba is peaceful, but we don’t want any conflagration or breach of peace that will start from Cable-Point.

” So we want to thank you for this reception. But for me it is not the quality of the reception that important. What is important to me is that there is a restoration of the quality of the Cable-Point we are used to by the time we leave here. We want to encourage you to live the way you have been living, especially those of you that were born here and those who have been here for more than , 60 years.

” Some of you speak more impeccable Asaba language and in our dialect better than I do, but we all have equal responsibility at this point in time because we have considered you as major stakeholders in whatever we are doing in Asaba. Let us clean up Cable-Point. In cleaning up Cable-Point we also have to address the issue of sanitation and the cleanliness of the place. Going forth, we are handing over the responsibility to the Anya Asagba, Ogbueshi Wing Commander Peter Iweze (rtd), to ensure the cleanliness of this place going forward.

” Cable-Point must show the light to other parts of Asaba in ensuring that this place is clean. We cannot restore the glory of Cable-Point with buildings only, but also by ensuring that the place is clean. We trekked from here to the water side and we observed with dismay that the banks of the river have been turned to refuse dumpsites. Let that be the ugly past of history. Henceforth, I am directing that we put an end to that.

” I want that river side to be cleaned up and I have directed members of the Tourism Committee to ensure that we turn that place to a beach water front where we can build up to serve as a tourists’ attraction”.

Asagba Prof Azinge thanked the reception organizers, especially Ogbueshi Wing Commander Peter Iweze (rtd) and the various communities in the settlement for pledging their allegiance and committing to ensuring that peace reigned in the area.

Earlier, leaders of the Arewa, Ndoni/Ogbaru, Yoruba, Igala and Igbo communities in n Cable-Point pledged their allegiance, assuring the Asagba that they would remain peaceful, law abiding, respectful to the custom and traditions of Asaba.

The Director General of the Delta State Capital Territory Development Agency, Chief Patrick Ukah and the Vice Chairman of Oshimili South Local Government Council, Hon Mrs Chinye Uso, were among dignitaries present at the reception.

Hon. Aniagwu said that Governor Sheriff Oborevwori was awarded the Governor of the Year title due to his exceptional fiscal discipline and innovative governance strategies.
Aniagwu, who was responding to criticisms regarding the award from former Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, Aniagwu emphasized that under Governor Oborevwori’s leadership, the state has successfully completed numerous projects, while also initiating new ones without borrowing to fund them.
Speaking at a press conference on Monday in Asaba, Aniagwu explained that the Governor had inherited several ongoing projects, many of which have now been completed. He noted that this reflects Oborevwori’s effective management of financial resources, achieving these milestones without accruing debt.
Aniagwu remarked, “We initially believed that our recognition of the Governor’s impressive achievements was a local sentiment. However, it became clear that even media outlets in Lagos and Abuja, such as THISDAY and ARISE News, were closely observing these significant developments.”
He continued, “We do not intend to engage in disputes with opposition figures, including our colleague and leader, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege. While we welcome constructive criticism as it motivates us to strive for greater achievements, questioning the legitimacy of the award merely appears to stem from personal interests.”
The Commissioner pointed out, “If progress is being recognized in our state, it should be a source of pride rather than grounds for disparagement. Notably, during the last elections, Oborevwori triumphed over Omo-Agege in 21 out of 25 local government areas. One would think that the lesson learned from this defeat would encourage more constructive engagement.”
Aniagwu underscored that Governor Oborevwori’s strong performance has increasingly posed challenges to the opposition in the state.
“We urge Omo-Agege to maintain fairness in his political discourse. At this moment, we are focused on our commitment to the people of Delta through the MORE Agenda, aimed at advancing development in our region.”
Addressing concerns from the Ndokwa Nation, Aniagwu highlighted the administration’s infrastructure initiatives, stating, “In Ndokwa Nation, we have awarded contracts for no fewer than 15 kilometers of roads. Notably, the completed Obi-Ibabu road, extending over 4 kilometers, awaits inauguration, and we are actively pursuing the Ndemili-Utagba Uno and Eweshi-Utagba-Uno roads.”
He added, “We’ve also commenced road construction in Amai, which is currently at the stone base phase, and ongoing work in Aboh, Ndokwa East. Additionally, the Beneku bridge has been completed, and plans are underway for the Asaba-Ase bridge in Ndokwa East, linking to Uzere in Isoko South.”
“While Omo-Agege served in the Senate, his efforts were concentrated largely around his immediate constituency. In contrast, Governor Oborevwori is dedicated to infrastructure development that benefits the entire state, regardless of political affiliation,” Aniagwu declared.
The Commissioner pointed out, “Oborevwori has made it clear that no citizen should face discrimination based on their political ties, ensuring that all resources are distributed fairly.”
Regarding Omo-Agege’s attempts to align himself with President Tinubu, Aniagwu advised, “Given that Oborevwori did not actively support the President’s campaign, it would be prudent for Omo-Agege to reconsider his approach.”
He reiterated that the Governor has directed all Commissioners to closely oversee their projects to guarantee that the state achieves value for money spent on development initiatives.
Aniagwu also warned those unlawfully occupying government properties, stating, “Those engaging in illegal land acquisitions will face consequences, as the government will not hesitate to demolish such constructions and pursue recovery of costs associated with such actions.”
On the topic of Senator Ned Nwoko’s recent resignation from the party, Aniagwu expressed that the Governor and the PDP remain unfazed by Nwoko’s frequent party changes, asserting confidence in the party’s continued success in Aniocha North and across Delta North Senatorial District.
Addressing housing initiatives, the Commissioner revealed that the state government is initiating the construction of 30 three-bedroom units and 20 two-bedroom units in pilot phases across Ozoro, Kwale, and Owa-Oyibu.
He added that the state is committed to higher education, operating four public universities, an achievement that few states can match in terms of establishing higher learning institutions in each Senatorial district.
Lastly, on healthcare improvements, Aniagwu noted that the Oborevwori administration is renovating over 150 healthcare centers statewide and upgrading facilities at both Central Hospital Warri and Delta State University Teaching Hospital, DELSUTH, Oghara.

Senator Nwaoboshi files Contempt Charge as IGP Allegedly defies Court Order

Most Distinguished Senator Peter Nwaoboshi has taking a decisive legal action against the Inspector General of Police for what he describes as a “blatant disobedience” of a ruling by the Federal High Court in Abuja.

Senator Peter Nwaoboshi has accused the Inspector General of Police of defying a court order, which restrained law enforcement agencies from arresting or detaining him.

The Federal High Court in Abuja issued the order on July 17, 2024, in Suit No. FCT/HC/CV/2916/2024 and Motion No. M/9638/2024.

The court order specifically prohibited the IGP, Nigeria Police Force, and other respondents from arresting or detaining Nwaoboshi until the final determination of the case. Despite this ruling, Nwaoboshi claims the police have failed to comply, prompting his legal team to initiate contempt proceedings against the IGP.

Nwaoboshi’s legal team argues that Section 72 of the Sheriff and Civil Process Act empowers them to seek contempt proceedings for disobeying the court’s directive.

“Refusal of the court order is an infringement on the fundamental rights and Liberty of the applicant.  Describing the IGP’s actions as “an affront to the judicial system and the principles of the rule of law,” the senator vowed that the rule of law must be upheld, warning that the integrity of the judiciary is at stake if court rulings continue to be ignored.

“An order of court, whether right or wrong, must be obeyed unless set aside by the same court or overturned on appeal,” Nwaoboshi’s legal team asserted. “Refusing to comply with a judgment or restraining order constitutes contempt of court.”

Justice Kekemeke, in his order, stated: “The Respondents, either by themselves or through their officers, agents, whosoever of whatsoever designation, are hereby restrained from further arrest or detention of the Applicant until the final determination of the Motion on Notice.”

The court has set October 28, 2025, for the hearing of the substantive motion, providing Nwaoboshi with temporary legal protection against any further law enforcement actions.

Most Distinguished Senator Peter Nwaoboshi has accused the Inspector General of Police over brazen disobedience to a valid court order of Federal High Court,Abuja (Suite No: FCT\HC\CV\2916\2024 and MOTION NO: M\9638\2024,warning that the Police cannot continue to disobey court orders.
Senator Nwaoboshi stated that his lawyers will approach the Court with the process of commencement of application for committal for contempt against Inspector General of Police on the ground of disobedience of Court Order. He warned that the dignity and honour of the court cannot be maintained if its orders are treated disdainfully and scornfully without due respect.
Consequently, the petitioner approached the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja and commenced suits for the enforcement of the Fundamental Rights of their Client as guaranteed under Chapter 4 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (As altered).
The Petitioners said “On the hearing, of our Motion dated 17th July, 2024, the Court ordered (MOTION NO: M\9638\2024) was issued and was served on the office of the Inspector General of Police,Abuja on 2024.
“In a total and ignominious disobedience to the Order of a Court of competent jurisdiction, Inspector General of Police bluntly refused to obey the Court order and this to say the least is the height of official recklessness, an affront to our judicial system and inimical to the revered principle of the Rule of Law.
“In line with Section 72 of the Sheriff and Civil Process Act, Cap. S6 LFN 2004, we will approached the Court with the process of commencement of application for committal for contempt on the ground of disobedience of Court Order. We wish to state with emphasis that an Order of Court, whether right or wrong must be obeyed unless set aside by the same Court or on appeal.
“It is contempt of court to refuse to do an act required by a judgment or order of court within the time specified therein or to disobey a judgment or an order restraining a person from doing a specified act. The dignity and honour of the court cannot be maintained if its orders are treated disdainfully and scornfully without due respect.
