IBUSA MIXED SECONDARY SCHOOL CRIES OUT FOR HELP: CALLS ON GOVERNMENT AND COMMUNITY TO INTERVENE

By: Ike Philip Abiagom

Mrs Rose Ezewu
Honourable Commissioner for Secondary Education

The once-vibrant Ibusa Mixed Secondary School in Oshimili North Local Government Area of Delta State is now in urgent need of help. The school, which has served as a foundation for countless students across Igbuzo and neighbouring communities, is facing serious infrastructural and academic challenges that threaten its continued existence.

According to Newsbreeze findings, the school has been unable to secure WAEC accreditation due to poor facilities, particularly the absence of well-equipped science laboratories and inadequate fencing separating the primary and secondary sections.

Newsbreeze, described the situation as “deeply worrying,” stressing that teachers and students are doing their best under very difficult conditions.

“The School laboratories are empty, and this has prevented WAEC from granting the School accreditation for many years now.

“The classrooms need furniture, some students are sitting on bare floor(Blocks), though they were given 100 sets of chairs last month by Isunambogu Social Club, an Indigenous Igbuzo social Club does not still solve the furniture problem as most students are still sitting on blocks, the school perimeter fence has collapsed, and there is no solid school gate to secure the compound. We are appealing to the government, well-meaning individuals, and Igbuzo indigenes to come to their aid as Education is suffering in Igbuzo.”

The major needs of the school include:

Fencing off the primary section from the secondary school.

Equipping the science laboratories with necessary materials for WAEC accreditation.

Repairing the dilapidated perimeter fence.

Installing a solid school gate for proper security.

Providing furniture for students and staff.

Mr Emma Amatokwu aka Kwasa echoed the same concerns, noting that the poor state of infrastructure has discouraged learning and lowered enrollment.

“This school once produced some of the best students in the local government, but today, our children learn under leaking roofs and broken chairs,” Mr. Amatokwu lamented. “If urgent attention is not given, the future of many bright children will be at risk. We are appealing to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and our local leaders to intervene quickly.”

Parents and community stakeholders have joined the call, urging the Delta State Government, Oshimili North Local Government Council, and philanthropic individuals to take immediate action.

Restoring Ibusa Mixed Secondary School, they said, is not just about fixing buildings — it is about preserving the dreams of young students who depend on education as their pathway to a better future.

PASTOR IDOWU OKEZE DONATES STATE-OF-THE-ART LABORATORY EQUIPMENTS TO SECONDARY SCHOOL IN IGBUZO

By: Ike Philip Abiagom

In what has been described as an act of uncommon generosity and vision, Pastor Idowu Daniel Okeze, Ukpechukwu Igbuzo — a man renowned for his compassion, humility, and unwavering commitment to community development — has once again written his name in gold by donating top-tier laboratory equipment to St. Thomas College in Igbuzo, Delta State.

The donation, which includes modern biology, chemistry, and physics apparatuses, will completely transformed the school’s science laboratory into one of the best-equipped in the region. Teachers and students will not contain their excitement as they walked into the newly upgraded facility, marveling at the gleaming microscopes, precision measuring tools, chemical sets, and digital lab instruments that now adorn the benches.

According to Pastor Okeze, the gesture was born out of his lifelong passion for education and youth empowerment. “Education is the foundation of progress,” he said. “Every child deserves access to quality learning tools, no matter their background. With proper exposure to science and technology, these young minds can compete with the best anywhere in the world.”

“Science and technology are the keys to national development,” he said. “If we give our children the right tools today, they will build a better tomorrow for all of us. This is my contribution toward a future where every Igbuzo child can dream and achieve without limits.”

The philanthropist, who has consistently invested in education, healthcare, and community welfare, expressed hope that the new laboratory state of Art would ignite scientific curiosity and inspire a new generation of innovators from Igbuzo.

In appreciation, Mr Emma Amatokwu aka Kwasa described Pastor Okeze’s intervention as “a divine blessing at a time when most schools struggle with inadequate facilities. ”he noted that the gesture would not only improve academic performance but also encourage students to pursue careers in medicine, engineering, and research. He commended Pastor Okeze for his unwavering love for humanity, describing him as “a man who lives for others.” He praised his rare humility and consistency in giving back without seeking applause or political gain.
“What Pastor Okeze has done goes beyond donation — it’s an investment in the minds and future of our children. He has shown that real wealth is measured not by what you keep, but by what you give.”

For the students of Igbuzo, this is more than just a donation — it is a spark of hope, a reminder that dreams are valid, and that there are still men and women who care deeply about the future of their community.

Pastor Idowu Okeze’s benevolent act stands as yet another testament to his enduring legacy — a shining example of how faith, compassion, and purposeful giving can transform lives and strengthen the fabric of society.

He has provided free educational materials, including textbooks, exercise books, school bags, and writing tools to pupils and students across both primary and secondary schools.
During one of his recent outreach programs, hundreds of students from schools in Ibusa, Okpanam, Illah, and Akwukwu-Igbo received learning kits — a gesture that many parents and teachers described as timely and impactful.

“This is not just about distributing books; it’s about giving hope to children who want to learn but lack basic materials,” Hon. Esenwah said during one of the presentation ceremonies. “Education remains the most powerful tool we can use to change our society, and I am committed to supporting our students every step of the way.”

Beyond providing materials, Hon. Esenwah has also introduced a scholarship scheme designed to assist brilliant but financially challenged students in Oshimili North. ACNPN Condemn Suspension of Ogwashi-Uku Polytechnic Rector and Bursar

By : Precious Erugo

Association of Newspaper Publishers of Nigeria(ACNPN), have strongly condemned the recent suspension of the institution’s Rector and Bursar by the Delta State House of Assembly, describing the action as hasty, unfair, and detrimental to the smooth running of the school.

The suspension, announced earlier this week, has generated mixed reactions across the state, with the student community expressing deep concern over what they termed “politically motivated interference” in the administration of the polytechnic.
In a statement jointly signed by the Association of Newspaper Publishers of Nigeria(ACNPN) President, Comrade Ike Philip Abiagom, and Secretary, Comrade Alaska Ekele, the Community Publishers called on the State Assembly to reconsider its decision and allow due process to take its course.

According to them, the Rector and Bursar have shown exceptional dedication to the growth of the institution, initiating several reforms that improved both academic and administrative performance.
“We are shocked by the sudden suspension of our Rector and Bursar without clear evidence of wrongdoing. Under their leadership, the school witnessed tremendous improvements in infrastructure, discipline, and student welfare. We see this action as unfair and politically influenced,” the statement read.
Community Publishers also highlighted the achievements recorded by the current management, including the renovation of dilapidated hostels, improved academic calendar stability, and a more transparent financial system.

They fear that the suspension could reverse these gains, create leadership instability, and disrupt ongoing academic activities.
“Our greatest fear is that this suspension will throw the school into confusion. Students are currently in the middle of examinations, and any disruption in leadership may affect our academic schedule,” said Miss Jennifer Ogbogu, a student of the Department of Mass Communication.

The Community Publishers appealed to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori to intervene and ensure that justice and fairness prevail. They urged the state government to prioritize the stability of the institution and prevent external influence from derailing the progress made so far.
“We call on His Excellency, Governor Oborevwori, to set up an independent panel to review the circumstances surrounding the suspension. We have confidence that the Governor, being a lover of education, will not allow politics to destroy the peace and progress of our school,” the students added.
While expressing their anger, the Community Publishers advised students to remain calm and avoid any form of protest that could lead to the closure of the institution. They assured that the union is engaging relevant authorities to seek a peaceful resolution.

Conclusion

The suspension of the Rector and Bursar of Delta State Polytechnic, Ogwashi-Uku, has stirred tension within the academic community. As investigations continue, students are calling for fairness, transparency, and swift government intervention to prevent the situation from escalating.

For now, the polytechnic community watches closely, hoping that truth and justice will prevail — and that education, not politics, will remain the focus.

Vebron Carre Set to Launch Scholarship Scheme for Igbuzo Students

By: Ike Philip Abiagom

In response to the declining standard of education across the nation — and particularly in Igbuzo — Vebron Carre, a USA-based organization, has announced plans to award scholarships to deserving sons and daughters of Igbuzo beginning in January 2026.

The decision was reached during a recent meeting of the Board of Directors held simultaneously at Vebron Carre’s Head Office in Durham, North Carolina, the President’s Office, and the Philadelphia Office in the United States.
Speaking at the meeting, the President of Vebron Carre, Obi Dr. Henry Chukwuma Ajudua, described Igbuzo as an intellectually distinguished community that has produced over a hundred academic professors, numerous medical doctors, and several career civil servants who rose to the peak of their professions as Permanent Secretaries at both state and federal levels.

He, however, lamented that the foundation that once nurtured such academic excellence has drastically eroded over the years.
“One of the major reasons for this decline,” Obi Ajudua noted, “is the financial hardship many parents face, which has hindered their ability to adequately fund their children’s education.”

After extensive deliberation, the Board resolved to initiate a scholarship scheme with the following guidelines:

1. The scholarship shall be instituted and managed by Vebron Carre.

2. Beneficiaries shall be selected based on academic performance.

3. The program shall initially cover students of Igbuzo origin across the four secondary schools in Igbuzo, serving as a pilot phase.
4. The scheme shall take effect from January 2026.
To ensure proper implementation, Obi Dr. Henry Ajudua (Eze Udo I of Igbuzo) announced that a committee would be constituted to design the modalities for both the scholarship selection process and the award ceremony.
With this initiative, Vebron Carre aims to rekindle the flame of educational excellence for which Igbuzo was once renowned, offering renewed hope to the next generation of scholars from the community.

Leaders say Hon. Esenwah deserves support after 24 years of Igbuzo dominance

By: Ike Philip Abiagom

Community stakeholders in Oshimili North Local Government Area have declared that no indigene of Igbuzo has the moral right to question the performance of Hon. Frank Esenwah, the member representing Oshimili North Constituency in the Delta State House of Assembly.

Speaking with Newsbreeze in Asaba, the leaders described as unfair and politically insensitive the recent criticisms directed at the lawmaker by a section of Igbuzo indigenes, noting that the same community held the Assembly seat for over 24 consecutive years without interruption or widespread opposition.

They maintained that Hon. Esenwah, who hails from Illah community, has so far demonstrated transparency, accountability, and commitment to even development across all communities in the constituency.

“For more than two decades, the people of Igbuzo held this position without interference from any other part of Oshimili North. It is therefore unfair for anyone to start attacking Hon. Esenwah barely two years into his tenure. He deserves support, not criticism,” one of the leaders said.

In his reaction, Chief Paul Odita, thanked the leaders, mostly Distinguished Senator Peter Nwaoboshi for  show of confidence in Hon. Esenwah, assuring that the lawmaker remains focused on fulfilling his campaign promises.

“Hon. Esenwah is a servant of the people. He has continued to deliver on his mandate through visible constituency projects, community outreach, and empowerment programmes. His record speaks for itself,” Odita said.
He added that several developmental projects are ongoing across the constituency, including:
Rehabilitation of rural roads in Ebu, Ukala, and Illah communities;

Renovation of classroom blocks and school furniture donation in Akwukwu-Igbo and Atuma;
Skill acquisition programmes and youth empowerment grants for small-scale entrepreneurs; and
Support for women cooperatives to promote rural economic growth.

Odita also emphasized that Hon. Esenwah has sponsored and supported several motions in the Delta State House of Assembly aimed at improving education, infrastructure, and environmental protection in rural communities.
Community leaders further appealed to all indigenes of Oshimili North, irrespective of political or community affiliation, to rally around Hon. Esenwah in the interest of unity and sustained development.
“This is the time for cooperation, not division. Our constituency is witnessing steady progress, and we must encourage our representative to do even more,” the statement added.

Okpanam community in Oshimili North Local Government Area of Delta State has appealed to the state government to end what they described as a “campaign of distraction” against their monarch by a some individuals within the community undermining the authority of the Ugoani. They decried the incessant litigations and petitions filed against their traditional ruler, His Royal Majesty, Dr. Michael Mbanefo Ogbolu. Their worries stemmed from the activities of individuals who are bent in converting de-acquired parts of community land to themselves. Some of the community leaders and youths carrying placards with inscriptions such as “Stop the False Petitions,” “Let Our King Reign in Peace,” and “Okpanam Stands with the Ugoani,” sang songs of peace and solidarity while calling on the Delta State Government to intervene and end what they described as a “campaign of distraction” against their monarch. Addressing the crowd, the Ugoani of Okpanam, His Royal Majesty Dr. Michael Mbanefo Ogbolu, voiced deep concern over the continuous litigations and false allegations aimed at undermining his leadership. He explained that the crisis began after the state government de-acquired part of Okpanam’s land earlier taken for the expansion of the Asaba International Airport. According to him, although the acquisition was handled in good faith by the administration of former Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, who after interventions, the state government de-acquired parts of the land and return to the community and was gazetteed in Pointer newspaper. However, some individuals within the community who are driven by greed, forged documents and signatures in an attempt to resell the de-acquired land. “These are people from within Okpanam who have allowed greed to drive them into the illegal sale of our communal land,” the monarch said. “They falsified documents and even the signatures of our elders to mislead the public. I have gone to court to prove my innocence and expose the truth. The government and elders know that this land rightfully belongs to Okpanam.” He lamented that internal efforts to settle the dispute had failed due to the involvement of external influences but maintained his desire for peace and reconciliation. “As a father, I still pray for them to return home, seek forgiveness, and be reintegrated into the community. But until then, the law must take its course,” he added. The President-General of the Okpanam Community, Dr. Paul Nwayilani, recounted that the issue had persisted for years due to the actions of a few land speculators colluding with outsiders. He noted that while the community once sued the state government over compensation for the airport land, the case was withdrawn after assurances that part of the land would be returned which the government did. “Sadly, some individuals secretly went behind the community to re-acquire the same land for personal gain,” Nwayilani said. “They forged documents, filed false petitions, and even dragged our monarch to court. I was arrested simply for exposing their deceit. But the truth will always prevail.” He expressed faith that the government was aware of the real situation and urged it to protect the traditional institution. “We are not against development,” he said. “All we ask for is fairness and peace. Our monarch has always worked for the progress of Okpanam. These false litigations must stop.” Also speaking, the Youth Chairman of Obodogba Quarters, Mr. Chukwuma Agbamujor, voiced the frustration of the younger generation over the continued attempts to discredit the Ugoani. “Our king is a peaceful and caring leader who has always had the interest of the people at heart,” he said. “It is painful to see him constantly dragged into petitions and court cases. We call on both the Federal and State Governments to intervene and stop these malicious acts by selfish individuals.” Describing the perpetrators as “rebellious elements and land grabbers,” Agbamujor reaffirmed the youths’ support for the monarch. “We will not allow anyone to destroy our heritage. Let peace reign in Okpanam,” he declared. The peaceful demonstration ended with chants for peace, unity, and divine justice. Community leaders reaffirmed their loyalty to the Ugoani and urged the Delta State Government to act swiftly to protect the traditional institution from further harassment through frivolous petitions and litigations over land matters.

Delta Community Protests Alleged Enslavement by Own Traditional Ruler

Over 500 indigenes of Ogwashi-Uku, in Aniocha South Local Government Area, on Thursday, took to the streets of Asaba in their numbers to protest an alleged deliberate attempt by their traditional ruler, Obi Ifechukwude Okonjo 11, the Obi of Ogwashi-Uku, to enslave them through cunning takeover of their lands and viewing the Monarchy as in a fuedal land tenure system with absolute powers

The placard-carrying protesters, led by the President General of the Ogwashi-Uku Development Association (ODA), Sir Patrick Osamor and the Secretary General, Mazi Adigwe Eluemunor, took their petition to Government House, Asaba.

Their document read: “Our attention has been drawn to a secret Court judgement at faraway Owa Oyibo, Ika South Local Government Area, in a case between Obi Ifechukwude Okonjo and Prince Ifeakanachukwu Emordi Vs Persons Unknown, which grants the Petitioners possession (ownership) of “all lands of Ogwashi-Uku.

“This Court judgement was followed up by obtaining authority to take possession of the lands and subsequent condoning and bulldozing of lands in some quarters recently.

“The judgement has become disturbing since Obi Ifechukwude Okonjo or his agents have commenced taking possession of the lands, sending away our people from their ancestral farm lands and harassing others with petitions and consequent police arrests.

“A “Notice and Warning” was issued under the Seal of His Majesty and signed by the Palace Secretary Ifeakanachukwu Emordi, which restricts persons from entering their farmlands unless with the permission of the Palace.

“Before this time the citizens had been terrorised by the Palace and their agents through arrests and Court processes on phantom charges to shut everyone up like slaves in our father’s land. The people who opposed untraditional processes of installing Chiefs (including the Obi himself who untraditionally was installed in place of his elder brother, who was rightful of the position by Ogwashi-Uku customs and traditions) were wrongly accused of criminal charges and made to go through security and Judicial costs using the influence of their sister.

“Ogwashi-Uku has been treated as a personal property of Obi Ifechukwude Okonjo. Compensations, proceeds and donations due to Ogwashi-Uku are not paid into any community account, but managed privately without proper accounting to the people. oThis is what happens to monies received as out of Court negotiations on so called recovered lands without the knowledge and consent of original land owners.

“We are frustrated by the continued delay of the Delta State Government in releasing the White Paper on the outcome of the Judicial Panel of Enquiry set up by the Delta State Government on Land and Traditional Leadership challenges in Ogwashi-Uku.

“This undue delay has emboldened the Obi and his family in suffering the people and claiming their ancestral lands. The people are being suffered because before the Panel they proved that Obi Ifechukwude Okonjo and his younger brother Onyema Okonjo have criminal records and not worthy of being King and Prince over them”.

They prayed the Governor to promptly intervene to stop Obi Ifechukwude Okonjo and his agents from taking over their ancestral lands as personal properties, describing the Owa Oyibo High Court Judgement against “Persons Unknown” as against natural justice and not acceptable to the masses of Ogwashi-Uku, who should not be taken as unknown persons.

The protesters also called for a stop to the continued harassment of the people with the Obi’s contacts in the securities (Police and the Military) and apparatuses of government, noting that the incessant arrests for no just causes and taking victims to Abuja for police investigations were frustrating.

“Stop the spate of “land recoveries” by the Palace unless any Quarter/Village has formally complained to His Majesty and then the Quarter MUST be a party to the case as Plaintiff.

“Stop the ‘NOTICE AND WARNING” issued by the Palace to Ogwashi-Uku citizens, which makes it mandatory that any person who wants land to farm on their ancestral farmlands must obtain permission from the Palace.

“Protect the customs and traditions of Ogwashi-Uku kingdom, especially in installation of Chiefs and the Obi of Ogwashi-Uku, a breach of which has cost Ogwashi people decades of disputes and underdevelopment.

“Save Ogwashi-Uku people from perpetual embarrassment of having someone with criminal background as traditional ruler with consequent inferiority complex in the comity of traditional leaders.

“Protect the common man of Ogwashi-Uku from Palace armed men called “Vigilantes” (Lion Squad) and imported mercenaries the Obi and his brother Onyema Okonjo are using to send our people out of their farmlands and attack perceived opposition.

“Grant that each Village (OGBE) with allies takes its right of autonomy if Obi Ifechukwude Okonjo with these enslavement tendencies be continually imposed on Ogwashi-Uku.

“Show the people of Ogwashi-Uku that the Government has listening ears to all petitions of the people to Government on external and internal abuses of Ogwashi-Uku citizens.

“Stop deliberate attempts to forcefully remove Dr Jude Okocha as the Registrar of Delta State Polytechnic, Ogwashi-Uku, even when all Investigative Panels have exonerated him of all accusations. Government should attend to our petitions and not only produce White Papers but see to execution of the decisions necessary to bring peace and order in the kingdom.

“Ogwashi people are no conquered people. We are being pushed to the wall”.

Responding, Governor sheriff Oborevwori, represented by his Senior Political Adviser, Senator Emmanuel Aguariawodo, restated the resolve government to ensure justice in the leadership and land related crisis bedeviling Ogwashi Uku kingdom over the years.

Governor Oborevwori reaffirmed the commitment of his administration to enthroning peace, justice and unity among the people, and commended the protesters for their peaceful conduct, whike adding that the contentious issues would be addressed speedily to facilitate early return of peace, law and order to the community.

The protesters were also at the Delta State House of Assembly complex where a copy of their petition was presented to the Sergeant – at – Arms for onward presentation to the speaker.

They also visited the secretariat of Aniocha South Local Government, where the reasons for their protest were outlined by the president General of ODA, Sir Patrick Osamor.
