House of representatives-elect for Owerri federal constituency on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Engr. Ikenna Elezieanya has called on governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo state and the Owerri West LG chairman to urgently save the people from impending epidemic by evacuating the refuse heaps at Irette in Owerri West council area of Imo state.

The incoming lawmaker made the passionate appeal recently while interacting with Nigeria Moment on telephone, noting that it will be ridiculous for the governor and the chairman of the local government, who incidentally is the chief security officer of the council to abandon their primary responsibilities to chase ghosts.
According to him, the governor since he has till May 29, 2019 to remain in office as Imo governor with all rights and privileges, he should equally not relegate his official studies, positing that the governor and his team must not acquire and enjoy only assets without liabilities. Elezieanya stressed that the area was not only stinking but the environmental condition has left everybody in total health threat and the ugly situation has started affecting business activities and movements in the area, pointing out that money that will be used to evacuate the refuse will be insignificant to the amount that it will be gulped to manage the aftermath epidemic and inherent diseases that likely to confront immediate residents and entire state.
He insisted that the damage both in health and economy will be unquantifiable

kidnappers den where victims are murdered, buried uncovers by SARS

[dropcap]T[/dropcap]he unprecedented visit by operatives of the Special Anti- Robbery Squad, SARS at an abandoned company in Odogunyan, Ikorodu area of Lagos, Thursday, sent shivers down the spines of residents , over what could have warranted the visit. Before the visit, residents had been complaining of a foul smell which pervaded the entire community. By the time the operatives were leaving the abandoned company, residents discovered that the smell emanated from the building.

The mission of the operatives was later discovered to have been to exhume four bodies which were in their decomposing states, from a septic tank inside the abandoned company.

The corpses were discovered to be those of two Bureau-De-Change operators: Alhaji Yakubu Musa and Alhaji Hassan Umaru, who were abducted on March 14, 2019 .The unsuspecting operators were invited by some strangers who claimed they wanted to sell 10,000 Dollars. But on arriving Trailer park Bus-Stop, Odogunyan, where the supposed transaction was to take place, they were taken to the abandoned company where they were abducted.

Thereafter, they were shot dead and their bodies dumped inside a septic tank . This was after the gang collected N1.6 million ransom from their relatives , for their release.

Meanwhile, back in the respective homes of the operators, their relatives were apprehensive over the seeming silence, as their phones were switched off. Narrating how their bodies were discovered and the perpetrators arrested, the Lagos State Police Public relations Officer, DSP Elkana Bala, said, “ “ On March 14, 2019, at about 5.30pm, the Command received a complaint from Ikorodu area that some unidentified persons approached one Alhaji Yakubu Musa and Alhaji Hassan Umaru , both operators of Bureau de Change at Benson area, Ikorodu. The strangers informed them that they have a relation who returned from overseas and needed to sell 10,000 US Dollars.

“They initially requested that payment will be made in a Bank at Ikorodu but on getting to the Bank, the suspects moved the operators to an unknown destination and started demanding for ransom from their friends and relatives.

They said, despite paying the sum of N1. 6 million, as ransom, the abductors refused to release the victims and nothing more was heard from them, as the victims’ phones remained switched off.

“The Commissioner of Police, CP Zubairu Muazu, detailed the Commander, Special Anti Robbery Squad, SARS to carry out an in depth investigation into the matter with a view of rescuing the victims and apprehending the suspects.

“Consequently, operatives from SARS Ipakodo base arrested three suspects: Oluwatosin Olanrewaju, Mayowa Olawuni , popularly called General and Babatunde Idris a.k.a Aloma. The suspects confessed to the commission of the crime and led operatives to their den at Ikorodu where they dumped the corpses in a septic tank”.

Information at Crime Guard disposal showed that payment of the N1.6 m ransom was traced to a GTB account holder, one Oluwafunke, who was subsequently arrested on March 23, 2019. Though she admitted during interrogation to have been paid N100,000 for releasing her account for the transaction, she, however, said she was unaware of the circumstances surrounding the transaction.

She mentioned one Olarewaju Oluwatosin, as the person that paid the money into her account. Consequently, 40-year-old Oluwatosin, an Osun state born, was arrested. His arrest further led to those of two suspected members of the gang identified as Mayowa Olaeuni, aka general and Babatunde Idris, 26 Other corpses recovered too

Crime Guard gathered that by the time operatives got to the abandoned company, two other corpses, identified as those of members of the Aiye confraternities were discovered to have been dumped inside the septic tank too. One of their identities was given as Terminator, a suspected leader of the Aiye cult group.

Two locally made single barrel guns with five live cartridges, one locally made gun with three ammunition, one locally made revolver pistol with three live ammunition, according to Bala, were recovered from the suspects. Also recovered were one cutlass, an axe and some charms. Investigation according to Bala, “ revealed that the suspects had at various times used the abandoned company as their den, where all their targets are killed and dumped in the septic tank.

In an interview with Crime Guard, one of the suspects, an Electrical Electronics graduate from the University of Ilorin, Oluwatosin, gave a startling account on how the Bureau- de-Change operators were killed. He said, “The initial intention was never to kill them but to collect money from them. Pencil (fleeing suspected leader of the gang ) brought the suggestion of robbing the operators. Both of us planned the deal for six days. He said I should convince the operators that one of our relatives who just came back from abroad wanted to sell dollars. It was on a Thursday. They came in a bike and called us from Trailer Park bus-stop, Odogunyan. Pencil directed his personal motorbike rider to take the operators to a boys quarter around odogunyan. By the time I joined them at the boys quarters, I met the operators lying down with their hands bound. Pencil asked me to lie on the floor too, so as to make it look like I am not part of them. Pencil pretended like a thief who stormed on us. He lied that the person they( operators ) came to buy dollars from was owing him and that he and his members had come to collect the money.

“They started beating the operators. I also received my fair share of the beating to make it look real since they(operators) knew me. The operators begged Pencil to stop beating them, that they would give him money for their freedom. Pencil instructed them to transfer the money into one Femi’s account. But when he called to know if the amount had been paid, the account holder said no. “ At that point, he ( Pencil )changed the game plan.

He threatened to kill me alongside the operators if he did not receive an alert on the payment. He said he suspected I was playing pranks by asking the person at the other end not to release the money to him. He said if he did not receive the alert by 4.55pm, he would kill all of us. At that point, one of the operators suggested that another account, preferably GTB, should be given to him to transfer the amount into. That was when I contacted the nurse that treated me when I was sick. She provided her account where N1.6 million was paid into by the operators family members.

“By 8pm same day, Pencil and Kenneth tore the operator’s clothes, used part to cover their mouths. When I asked why, Pencil asked if I wanted to teach him his job. He burnt the operators clothes, shoes and phones and said he would kill them because they would identify me to the Police if allowed to go Scot free. Thereafter, he took one of them to a corner killed him and sent for the other. By the time he came to where I was, he said he had settled the case and threatened to kill us if anything that transpired there was heard outside. “ He detained me there till the next day, from where we went to Tamaga side, (a hotel) by 6am next day. We stayed there until 9am before he instructed me to call the woman in whose account the N1.6 million was paid. Pencil called his motorbike man to take Kenneth and me to the woman’s place where she gave us the money in three installments because she could not withdraw everything at once. I got N340,000 as my share of the loot”, he said.

His alleged partners in crime, Mayowa and Babatunde, said they got N20,000 and N50,000 respectively as their share. They however claimed that they were never part of the discussion to kidnap the operators. They said that fleeing Pencil ordered them to follow him and that they could not act otherwise because he (Pencil) was dreaded by all in the area.

They further disclosed that the two other bodies of rival cult members were shot dead by Pencil, following the lingering cult war between Aiye and Eiye confraternities.

They further added that since leader of Aiye cult group, Terminator, was killed by Pencil, he (Pencil) assumed the name , terminator. The suspects according to the command’s spokesman, would be charged to court at the end of investigation, adding that efforts were still on to arrest other fleeing members of the gang.

Manchester City and Liverpool’s epic title race was decided by millimetres and seconds

[dropcap]E[/dropcap]ighty-three seconds; that’s all they had. For just under one and a half minutes, Liverpool and their supporters allowed hope to turn into belief that a 29-year wait to be champions of England would come to an end on the final day of the Premier League season.

Having taken a 17th-minute lead against Wolves at Anfield through Sadio Mane, news came through that Glenn Murray had headed Brighton in front against Manchester City at the Amex Stadium. A murmur went around Anfield before turning into a deafening roar.

At first, though, it was a false dawn. In the modern era of instant news on social media, the phenomenon of misheard score lines and false alarms about goals should be a thing of the past, but Liverpool fans repeatedly jumped up and celebrated wildly, under the incorrect impression their title rivals were trailing.

Moments later, though, a second ripple became a crescendo of noise. Brighton had scored and The Kop erupted. Flares were lit and songs were sung; the title was finally within Liverpool’s grasp. Some 215 miles south, Pep Guardiola removed his grey coat as his agitation grew.

For Liverpool to win their first title since 1990, they needed to win their game and hope for City to slip up. Nobody really believed it would happen — Guardiola’s men had not even fallen behind in a league game since losing at Newcastle in January — but on the very last day of the season, it was happening.

Fate? Maybe it was on Liverpool’s side. Maybe that incredible 4-0 Champions League semifinal second leg victory against Barcelona last Tuesday was merely the precursor to the main event five days later.

But within 83 seconds of Murray’s goal, Sergio Aguero levelled for City and the elation gave way to deflation inside Anfield. At that stage, with Liverpool winning and City drawing, Jurgen Klopp’s team were still on course to end the day as champions.

Liverpool supporters knew, though. A lull descended over the stadium, punctured only by the Wolves fans celebrating. More City goals were inevitable and so it proved. Aymeric Laporte made it 2-1 with a storming header eight minutes before half-time, then Riyad Mahrez and Ilkay Gundogan completed City’s emphatic victory in the second period.

We are appealing to the foundation to continue this empowerment because the biggest economic challenge in Nigeria today is youth unemployment. Unfortunately, our current educational system has adverse effects on the mentality of the graduates that we produce; they have a job seeker’s mentality. It is my conviction that  Skill Acquisition holds the key to solving our unemployment problem.  Skill Acquisition offer highly technical, vocational and entrepreneurial education to enable graduate youths function as wealth creators and job creators, in addition to giving them employability skills.

GRADUATING STUDENTS OF GLORIA OKONKWO ONYEKACHI FOUNDATION

The Gloria Okonkwo Onyekachi Foundation under the watch of Bishop Chiendu James is committed to reversing this trend because no meaningful national development can be achieved by any nation without sound and qualitative technical education. He strongly believe that the future lies with technical/vocational education, not certificate acquisition. our country cannot shy away from issues of unemployment and under-employment, like any other developing country, despite determined efforts of governments at all levels. The best thing that can happen to our youths and others in need of jobs is to acquire skills that will bring succor and hope of sustainable engagement for regular income”.

Technical education and Skill Acquisition is a cardinal programme of Gloria Okonkwo Onyekachi Foundation because we believe that until we get our targeted 5,000 youths to acquire the requisite  technical and vocational skills, we are not building a future for the youths.

Niger Delta Group Issues Seven – Day Ultimatum For Gov.Wike To Reopen NDDC Head Office

Gov. Wike

[dropcap]T[/dropcap]he Consolidated Youths of Niger Delta (CYN) has issued seven days ultimatum to  the Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike  to reopen the headquarters of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) located in in Port Harcourt.

The youths drawn from the nine states of the oil rich region asked the governor to unseal the commission’s office within the period of the ultimatum or face stiff and sustainable protests and unrests from them.

Recall that the Rivers State Internal Revenue Service in April sealed off the corporate headquarters of NDDC in Port Harcourt over an alleged unpaid withholding tax of about N50bn.

Coordinator of the group Comrade Frank Naday, while addressing newsmen in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom state ,maintained that the office was sealed about a week ago over non remittances of revenues by   the government of Rivers state

He further described the closure of the commission’s office as political gimmick adding that NDDC is bigger than Rivers State because it covers the Niger Delta region and not Rivers alone.

The group also appealed to President Muhammadu Buhari, to intervene as the prevailing peace in the region maybe truncated. .

The Coordinator affirmed :“From our findings and the information made available to us, it is clear that the Commission has paid the backlogs of revenues it owes the Rivers State Government.

“We want to ask Rivers State Government to as a matter of urgency, unseal the Commission’s office complex to enable workers gain access to their various offices.

”We are aware that Rivers State Government is trying so hard to play Politics with the Commission because the system feels threatened that Prof Nelson Brambaifa-led administration at NDDC is doing tremendously well”

“In a couple of months that the new leaders assumed office, they have been able to pay contractors and return them back to sites, they have addressed the problem of water hyacinths too.

“It is also on record that the students studying abroad in various Universities in United Kingdom, have received their stipends and their schools have also been taken care of by the Commission.

“The rate of construction in Niger Delta region is really on the increase as almost all the states in the region are experiencing massive road construction”, he stressed.

The youths,  worry that their efforts at addressing their plights through the Federal Government agency were being thwarted by the government of Rivers state.

Delta Government Reacts Over Alleged Planned Relocation Of NGMC HQ From Warri

Gov. Ifeanyi Okowa

[dropcap]T[/dropcap]he Delta State Government has reacted over the alleged planned relocation of the Nigeria Gas Marketing Company limited (NGMC), head office and staff from Warri in Delta State to Abuja. The State Commissioner, Ministry of Oil and Gas, Mr Freeman Fregene who reacted to the development, said the consequences of such plans coming to reality was enormous and called on the federal government to stop the Group Managing Director of Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, Dr Maikanti Baru from given approval to the relocation plan.

In a statement on Monday, Mr. Fregene however disclosed that the NNPC had denied such plans, but information reaching the ministry has it that some persons in the Corporation are bent in getting the NGMC headquarters moved from Warri to Abuja.

According to him, “NGMC, is a Gas Marketing Subsidiary of NNPC. We have it from reliable sources of moves to relocate the operational headquarters of the company from Warri to Abuja. Although the NNPC management has denied it but it is becoming obvious by the day that they are hiding the truth. This is condemnable and we are appealing to proponents of the plan to stop for unity and progress of Nigeria.

“There is an internal memo from the MD NGMC requesting for approval for the relocation of the company head office and staff from Warri to Abuja. In the memo, twelve comparison was given between locating the NGMC head office in Warri and relocating it to Abuja, including Office Accommodation, Opportunity for more Customers, Security Concerns, Customers Willingness to Attend Meetings, Reduction of Cost of Traveling, Community Disturbances, Proximity to NNPC Corporate Headquarters, Cost of Paying Rent, Cost of Office Maintenance and Power Supply Stability. These to say the least, are reason being manufactured to perpetuate an act inimical to growth and progress of our dear country Nigeria.

“The painful aspect of it is that NNPC kept on denying it. However, the Delta State Government can not afford to fold its hands and allow the initiators of the evil plan succeed. The relocation plan is evil in all ramifications. Delta State is the source of the raw materials with all the attendants consequences of exploration and exploitation. Yet you don’t want the state and its people to have a feel of the benefits”, Fregene said.

The humble Priest who was today eulogized by his colleagues and friends during his Thanksgiving Mass in the church, announced his intention to relinquish his multi million naira Farm to the Catholic Church, but with a caveat that he should be allowed to manage it as a Foundation which should get 40% of the proceeds of the Farm.

Father Jude recounted his priestly experiences in the past 25 years, beginning from his major assignment in the JDPC where his passion for humanitarian services was fuelled. He said on exit from JDPC he had fallen in love with humanitarian projects, which he has been able to sustain through the Farm – Ifeanyi Farms Ltd Issele-Uku.

He revealed that the Farm which as at today has over 250 acres of land and over 150 active farm workers had trained several people through the Seminary and the University levels as part of its contributions to uplifting the cause of humanity.

The amiable Priest none the less, announced a donation of a brand new bus to the SS Peter and Paul Nursery and Primary School, Issele-Azagba and to train its best graduating pupils through secondary schools and beyond.
