DELSU VC declares war, bars Oasis Magazine,Vanguard,Pointer Newspaper Journalists From Briefing Over Publications

[dropcap]T[/dropcap]he Vice Chancellor and management of Delta State University, Abraka, yesterday barred Vanguard Newspaper, Oasis Magazine (OM), the state owned Pointer Newspaper operating in the state from participating in a pre-convocation press briefing ahead of the university’s 13th convocation ceremony holding on Saturday, May 18, 2019.

The incident is coming on the heels of critical reports in the school which sources within the management of the university say it is not “comfortable” with that were published by the said media.

The university’s PRO, Mr. Freeborn Aganbi, is said to have engaged in a shouting match with the publisher of Oasis Magazine (OM), Daniel Dafe Umukoro, when he tried to gatecrash into the venue.

According to the Publisher of OMhe described the incidence as appalling, saying that the university’s PRO, Mr. Freeborn Aganbi claimed that he was operating on orders from above.

He said: “Abraka is our major beat and I wonder why they are doing this despite the fact that they understand that we run a celebrated online and print platform. Does the university expect us to only carry stories that promote them?

“We should be able to put them on their toes with our reports? We have done our best to be professional in our reports and have time without numbers explained that we mean no harm to the university and must be allowed to do our jobs professionally.

“When the present VC assumed office, we were one of the media houses that attended his first briefing and actually of all those in attendance, we were the only ones that published the media chat verbatim. Why are they doing this now? Someone is certainly not happy with some of our recent publications.

“Though OM was not invited, we tried to gatecrash to be able to put some questions to him since the coming convocation is the last major event that this administration will hold and apart from such an opportunity, it will be difficult to get the VC for a media chat because from our findings he avoids the press.”

“Well, in any case, I wish the university well and hope the next VC relates very well with the press and allow positive criticisms. The press is a major stakeholder in any organization that intends to achieve anything meaningful anywhere in the world.”

Meanwhile, the university said a total of 4, 252 students will be participating in the convocation ceremony holding on Saturday, noting that the institution has maintained strict adherence to discipline.

Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof. Victor Peretomode during the briefing, stated that the varsity currently ranks 2nd among state universities in the country, 20th among Nigerian universities and 46th in Africa.

Speaking on the prevailing peace in the university, he said: “The advantage of this peace that we have been able to bring to the institution has ensured that students graduate when they are supposed to graduate. If you are running a four-year course in the University, you will graduate even before the four years elapses.”

He continued: “The institution frowns at any form of corruption at all levels and we will continue to discipline all those that are found wanting. Committees are set up for various offences in the University and we make sure we implement them to the later.

“We have tried to sanitize the system and students now have the boldness to report any form of harassment from lecturers, and when we investigate and find out that the allegations are true, we discipline the lecturers in different ways.

Speaking further, he opined that “in the past four years, the drop-out rate in the university has reduced because of these rules,” saying that they no longer tolerate indecent dressings around the campus.

“Activities of the so called ‘Yahoo boys’ have also reduced drastically,” he averred.

Senator Peter Nwaoboshi’s mandate is not for sale

[dropcap]I[/dropcap]t is believed that Senator Peter Nwaoboshi is not just a threat but a political bulldozer and trailblazer who has his
political machinery and goodwill that made him the choice of Anioma any day, any time.
With the political intrigues that is currently playing out, it is maddening to observe the level of desperation at which politicians seek political positions saying there is no gainsaying in the fact that the political situation and democratic process in Nigeria is a game of highest bidder which often leaves a situation of crying hues by losers after various elections.

“This is what is playing out for weeks now with the pronouncement at the Federal High Court, Abuja. Usually, as it has always been the case in Nigeria, after the primary election, contestants who were not satisfied with the turnout of the results are given fourteen days to file their cases. Yet, no one did for the Delta North senatorial primaries within the stipulated time. This further adjudged the result to be wholly accepted in good faith by Ned Nwoko.

It is therefore a travesty of justice to note that an application contesting unfair primaries will be attended to in a court of competent jurisdiction in this country after the fourteen days window to file a petition has elapsed. “I have actually decided to lend my voice to this unhealthy imbroglio based on the fact that a result that was publicly declared and accepted in good faith is now wearing a different garb. It is interesting to note that from 506, the current votes scored by Sen. Peter Nwaoboshi is now 406, while Prince Ned Nwoko who got 453 votes is now adjudged the winner. The facts coming out of the purported investigations are alleging gross irregularities and electoral malpractices.
“Invariably, it is no longer news that the unseen hands of some political gladiators in Delta State are actually instigating the entire campaign of hatred but soon the God almighty will shame them. With the recent issuance of a certificate of return to billionaire politician, Prince Ned Nwoko of Delta North Senatorial District by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), despite a pending appeal before the Court of Appeal in Abuja, and having been served a stay of execution on the judgement of the Federal High Court, Abuja, it is clear that the electoral body has been unduly influenced by the billionaire politician who prides himself in using his money to achieve whatever he wants.

Recall that the April 3, 2019 horrendous Federal High Court judgement by Justice Ahmed Abubakar against Senator Peter Nwaoboshi, who billionaire Prince Ned Nwoko contested against in the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) senatorial primary election for Delta North senatorial district, directed the PDP to publish the name of Ned Nwoko as the candidate for the election; an order already overtaken by events. Since there was no consequential order to INEC to issue a certificate of return to Ned Nwoko, the question begging for an answer is: on what legal foundation did INEC erect its decision on?
Having been served all appeal processes, one wonders where INEC derived its powers to issue certificate of return to Ned Nwoko. Ned Nwoko went as far as presenting ballot papers in court which were not given to him by the PDP. The party objected the admissibility of the ballot papers since they were not given to Prince Nwoko by the party. This is the party that conducted the election coming out to tell Prince Ned the ballot papers did not come from them. This leaves one to wonder the basis upon which Justice Abubakar went ahead to admit it as evidence and eventually ruled that Ned won the case.
Only a blind man will not see that the only thing that could have made the judge to give such a horrendous judgement is Judicial magic. Prince Ned Nwoko, notorious for bragging of his capacity to buy his way, succeeded in creating the eight wonder of the world by securing himself a judgement that lacked judicial ethos.

On the other hand, why should INEC, after been duly served a notice of appeal; stay of execution, and record of proceeding duly transmitted to the appeal court, went ahead to issue Ned Nwoko a certificate of return when the judgement did not direct them to do so? The question on the minds of many is what could have happened? With a man who brags openly and claimed that even the appeal court is wrapped under his armpit, and that the case before the appeal is a foregone and concluded matter, could it be that justice in present Nigeria is for the rich? An average Nigerian cannot get justice? Although INEC has chosen this inglorious part even when the matter is pending at the court of Appeal, all hope for justice is not lost since Nigerians have implicit hope that the revered Justices of the Appeal court shall rise to the occasion and redirect the wheel of justice to restore sanity and orderliness to the sacred temple of justice. Let justice be done, and seen to be done.

Where was Hon. Ned Nwoko in the build up to the 2014 PDP gubernatorial primaries, when it became clear that the aspiration of Anioma producing the governor was on the verge of evaporating. It was a time that moves to truncate the realisation of a governor of Anioma extraction became apparent.I say this with clear conviction as I was in the battle field during that period. It was this time that men with balls appeared, vowing to do whatever that was needed to ensure governorship comes to Anioma in the spirit of unwritten agreement to rotate the position amongst the three senatorial districts. The battle was not fought by the PDP alone. It was an Anioma project. Barr. Nwaoboshi was amongst the Anioma sons and daughters that organised several nocturnal meetings and lobbies to actualise the dream. At a time, Barr. Peter Nwaoboshi offered to bury his senatorial ambition even if it amounts to Ika Nation producing both the governor and the senator.

When eventually Dr. Okowa picked the governorship ticket, it was so easy for Barr. Nwaoboshi to emerge at the time.
Since he became a senator, public assessment of his performance is high. This is not necessarily because he has done very well. Many think he is a victim of poor media management and vitriolic attacks stimulated by his apparent deserved political leap.

I am one of the many persons who rated Senate Nwaoboshi very high,I had used the performance barometer I applied for Senator Okowa to score him. I just reminded myself that Dr. Okowa was a senator when his party held sway at the centre. Despite the convivial environment, Senator Okowa operated in, he raised the bar to the chagrin of his colleagues at the time. I have left Senator Patrick Osakwe out of this discourse for obvious reasons. Barr. Nwaoboshi has within the last three and half years put out his scorecard for public scrutiny. This document has clearly shown that he has done well in the nine local government areas in the district and remain the senator ever produced in the history of Anioma nation.

Barr. Peter Nwaoboshi is a first timer in the red chamber, yet, emerged as the Senate committee chairman on Niger-Delta Affairs. His diminutive stature does not obscure his intellectual strength. He is in fact a political maverick. He has offered himself for sacrifice to secure the interest of Anioma. He is a cat with nine lives. He has survived previous ferocious battles. The year 2019 will certainly not be a war the ‘Oracle’ will lose. I found him most appropriate to represent Aniomas beyond 2019 in the Senate. Senator Nwaoboshi is the authentic winners of Anioma Senatorial seat. Our God will secure the judgement in your favour and shame the devil. Igbuzo mali umu wa !!!

Shop owners, motorists,Residents commend Obe on road rehabilitation

[dropcap]H[/dropcap]on. Monsuru Bello Obe  cannot stop delivery  the dividend of democracy to his people , As rehabilitation work started on Adekoroye Olarewaju Street off Kayode Street, Double Power Line area of Ejigbo, last week, the residents, shop owners and motorists in the area were full of praise and excited, commending the Chairman of Ejigbo Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Hon. Monsuru Bello Obe for extending the hand of good governance to their community. The road, which links Power Line and Ona Iwa-Mimi Street to Ori-Oke bus stop, has been in a dilapidated state as road users find it difficult to pass through it before the local government’s approval for its rehabilitation.

Expressing his happiness, Pastor Orimolade, a resident of the area said: “It is good government that repairs road for its people and I want to appreciate the effort of our chairman, Obe for the good things he is doing. I feel good about this and I am happy for the people doing it from the workers to the chairman.”

Mrs. Sydney, a shop owner in the area said she was surprised when she earlier saw the materials being delivered on the street, thinking it would be like past experiences when materials were sometimes brought to the street and nothing was done.

She was of the opinion that if the road could be completed, it would be very good for all as there would be no more erosion and dust on the street.

The Chief Press Secretary (CPS) to the council chairman, Mr. Muyideen Akinsanmi Akinyemi told Grassroots Publishers that the rehabilitation of Adekoroye/Olarewaju Street was part of campaign promise of the chairman and that it was done in a bid to stabilize the road and ease the tension on the major road.

He further explained that the road had been in bad state and the chairman saw the need to stabilize it now, adding that though there has been pressure from some so called Omo-adugbo to get the road repaired. He however said the road will be ready within two weeks.

One of the works on the road identified lack of maintenance of drainage by the residents as a major problem as many items were being dumped in the drainage, blocking the free flow of water.

Imo Speaker escapes with Mace to avoid impeachment … Assembly members suspend him

[dropcap]M[/dropcap]embers of the Imo State House of Assembly on Wednesday served impeachment notice on the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon Acho Ihim. The notice signed by 21 members of the House also disclosed that they had elected the member representing of Onuimo State Constituency, Hon Chinedu Offor as the Acting Speaker of the House, while allegations against the Speaker are investigated.

But the Speaker dismissed the action of the Lawmakers as null, void and of no consequence.

He argued that impeachment notices are not issued through press releases

Meanwhile, the embattled Speaker had during plenary read a letter of apology from the suspended Local Government Chairmen and ruled that they should be recalled without calling for a vote. Objections raised by members of the House were shut down by the Speaker who quickly adjourned and left with the majority leader of the house, Lugard Osuji.

Aggrieved members who perceived the walkout as a slight stayed behind in the hallowed chambers even after the power supply had been cut off, throwing the entire House into darkness.

Briefing journalists at the House of Assembly, Offor stated that Ihim had consistently run the House without recourse to parliamentary process, adding that his action at the plenary session of the House on Wednesday was an insult to the other Lawmakers.

Offor added that “the Speaker had taken a unilateral decision to recall the suspended local government Council Chairmen contrary to our resolution at the Executive session”.

He added that efforts to speak by members who invoked order 15 of the house rules were rebuffed by the Speaker who quickly adjourned without giving room for the input of other members of the House.

Victoria Obaze from Imo becomes Mayor in UK

Mrs Victoria Obaze

[dropcap]M[/dropcap]rs Victoria Obaze, a Nigerian from Imo State made history on Wednesday after she was sworn into office as the first black female Civic Mayor of London Borough of Tower Hamlets, United Kingdom (UK).

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Obaze’s inauguration on Wednesday is the latest in turn of events that have seen Nigerians emerge as Mayors in their area councils of residence in the UK. It will be recalled that Mr Ernest Ezeajughi, and Mrs Kate Anorue, both from Anambra State, were recently sworn into office as Mayors of London Borough of Brent and Enfield, respectively.

Obaze who contested three previous councillorship elections in 2010, 2014 as well as 2016 and failed, eventually succeeded in an election conducted on May 5, 2018 in Whitechapel Ward. She later became the Council’s Deputy Speaker following her nomination by her Councillor Colleagues from where she took over the mantle as Mayor of London Borough of Tower Hamlets.

A statement containing brief history of Obaze obtained by NAN from her close associate and UK Chapter Coordinator, Ugonwanne Social Club Nigeria Int’l, a Nigerian socio-cultural group in UK, Ms Blessing Chijekwu, revealed that the newly sworn-in Mayor had lived in Borough for over 30 years.

“For Councillor (Cllr) Obaze life is all about service to humanity with diligence. Her political experience started when she was elected as one of the board of directors to oversee the regeneration of her area, the Ocean Estate, in the 1980s.

“The move motivated her to get into politics having noticed that there were no black women in the council chambers and this led her to open a project named Healthy Life Style for Stepney Women, East London.

“The project was funded by local authority through Ocean African Caribbean Association which she and her late husband Chief Evangelist Charles Obaze, co-founded.

“She also established Ocean Saturday School aimed at ensuring school attainment for children, as well as Ocean Football Club through which young boys were able to have residential football experiences with Chelsea football Club.

“Above all, Cllr Obaze loves God with a passion; she is a member of Parochial Church Council (PCC), as well as an Executive Council member at St Dunstan’s Church of England Parish in Stepney.

“She is also a Secondary School governor in Tower Hamlets and a habitual visitor to the elderly and physically challenged in the community,” the statement quoted Chijekwu as saying.

The statement also quoted Lolo Ngozi Nwanze, President, Ugonwanne Social Club Nigeria Int’l as saying that Obaze was chosen as life matron of the club because of her meekness and morality.

“These are the virtues that have brought her to where she (Obaze) is today.”

Obaze who has four children and two grand Children attended West London College and Metropolitan University where she studied Business Administration and Community Sector Management at different times.

She also has certification in childcare which enabled her operate a registered charitable childcare centre in UK named Vicharles Play Centre.

Abavo Youths Refute maladministration and financial misappropriation Allegation against Agbeyeke

[dropcap]G[/dropcap]rassroots Publishers Online can report that the melodious local government Administrator genius, Dr Philip Eku Agbeyeke  has decried the recent media publications which intend to smear ignominy on his well-earned reputation in the administration, describing the unfortunate development as a complete falsehood.

Agbeyeke had been alleged to be involved in maladministration and financial misappropriation of the council treasury when he served as Head of Personnel Management “HPM” in Oshimili South LGA ten years ago, but had refuted the baseless accusation.

A statement issued by Abavo (Okpe) Youths leader Comrade Augustine Nkemachor and made available to Newsmen in Asaba reads:

“Our attention has been drawn to a press report carried on the Oasis Magazine/Online and Fresh Angel online, captioned “Anxiety in Delta Council as indigenes, staff call for removal of administrative head”.

“After reading the said publication, our immediate reaction was to discountenance the story, but on a second thought, as a respected son of Abavo Kingdom and a man of integrity who has served in various local government across the state with many good track records and credentials, we are forced to release this press statement, knowing that if it is not refuted, the general public may erroneously believe the story to be true.

“The said story is a figment of the imagination of the sponsored write up and the said write-up is a complete falsehood and a classical example of bread and butter journalism.

Agbeyeke has never in his entire life, been associated with maladministration and financial misappropriation of any council treasury and has never been found wanting or issued any query or indicted by his employers or any security agency in the past or present in Nigeria for financial misappropriation. So the writer who authored the story is at best playing a script written for him by his detractors. In area of butter journalism, the aim is to destroy his hard earned reputation and long years of service.

It was also alleged that Dr Agbeyeke lobbied and bribed the Local Service Commission to post him to Oshimili South Local Government Council. It is on record that Dr Agbeyeke is one man that has never lobbied for his posting or transfer. The detractors also alleged that he bribed the Commission with millions of naira to be posted to Oshimili South LGA.

We want to state our defense with facts and dates for the general public to know that since the appointment of the present Local Service Commission headed by Comrade O.Oyibo, since four years ago Dr Agbeyeke has been transferred seven times.  on 12th January 2015, he was posted to Aniocha South LGA, on October 21st same 2015 he was deployed to Sapele LGA, on 9th of June 2016 Agbeyeke was transferred again to Warri South West LGA, on 3rd February  2017, he was redeployed again to Oshimili North LGA ,and later posted back to Agbor Zonal office on 27th October 2018. Agbeyeke was transferred again to Aniocha North on 26th October 2018,and because Oshimili South LGA has been in crisis since the present Executive Chairman came onboard  , the Local Government Service Commission felt that a seasoned Administrator, Crisis manager and a bridge builder who has done a similar job at various councils in the past should be posted to this crisis council to unite all parties and bring back lost  peace , but his recent posting to Oshimili South LGA did not go well with alot of detractors at the council because they know that he is a man of integrity and an administrator rooted on the ground who carries everybody along.

It is also on record that before Dr Agbeyeke was posted to Oshimili South LGA, he has equally written to the Local Government Commission Chairman to post him to his local government council but his request was turned down by his employer.

We want to use this medium to appeal to people who are sponsoring this falsehood write-up against this man to change because according to the Holy Bible ‎Psalm 105:15 saying, “Touch not my anointed ones, and do my prophets no harm!” “He who justifies the wicked and he who condemns the just, both of them are like an abomination to the LORD” (Proverbs 17:15)

Dr Philip Agbeyeke is a respected member of Knights of St. Mulumba, a Rotarian and he is also a traditional Chief (Okiroro of Abavo Kingdom and Akwukwu- Igbo)

We are soliciting to the public to discountenance the various vexatious publications.

Can Osinbajo’s new taskforce find solution to Apapa gridlock?

Apapa gridlock

[dropcap] T[/dropcap]he new taskforce set up by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo aimed to deal with Apapa gridlock, is anything to go by, Apapa with its traumatised residents and their degraded environment might be facing the task of re-writing their current story of woes.

Ladi Lawanson, Lagos State commissioner for transportation told newsmen  that the gridlock currently being experienced in Apapa would disappear “in the next 21 days.”

“I can tell you categorically that within 21 days the Apapa gridlock will be revolved permanently,” Lawanson assured, explaining that the permanent solution was expected from the initiative taken by Vice President Osinbajo.

For an average Apapa resident, business owner or port user, this is good news but one received with reservations. To them, this is one taskforce too many because Apapa has seen too many taskforce initiatives for anyone to be excited about a new one.

The question on every lip therefore is how far the Vice President can go with the new taskforce which, the Lagos commissioner said, has only 21 days to clear the gridlock. The question becomes all the more imperative given that the taskforce set up by the same Vice President last year ended up being counter-productive.

At the peak of the gridlock and congestion that paralysed all business activities not only in Apapa but also in Lagos generally, Osinbajo as Acting President touched down in Apapa in August 2018, gave a 72-hour presidential order for the gridlock to be cleared. A task force comprising the army, navy, police, LASTMA, FRSC, the transport unions and other stakeholders followed almost immediately to effect the order.

But that order was never complied with even for one day. The gridlock persisted and was made worse by the unwholesome activities of the taskforce who saw their assignment as opportunity for other purposes than controlling traffic. The gridlock escalated and government seemed indifferent.

It remains a matter for the imagination what difference a new taskforce is coming to make in Apapa. Already, the Lagos commissioner, who revealed he was a member of the taskforce with the responsibility of making sure there’s free flow of traffic on Lagos roads, is complaining of infrastructure challenges.

“Part of the challenges is that some of the infrastructure needed to ease Lagos traffic are owned by the Federal Government. There are federal roads to which Lagos State government has no authority,” he complained.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                  A close look at Apapa gridlock shows that whatever will bring permanent solution to the problem goes beyond infrastructure. Unless the taskforce, which includes the chairman of Apapa GRA Residents Association (AGRA), Sola Ayo Vaugham, will not be one that will mount checkpoints for toll collection, the success of Osinbajo’s second coming to Apapa remains hazy and seemingly unachievable.

Any solution to Apapa problem must look beyond just stopping trucks coming into the port city mid-way into their journey. A functional railway system that will take over all haulage activities in the port city is the way to go coupled with the opening of new transit parks and an efficient, fool-proof call up system.

Additionally, government must demonstrate commitment and sincerity of purpose in implementing short term measures being explored by the stakeholders which includes the government. The completion of the Trailer Park being constructed along the Apapa Oshodi Expressway is one such measure.

The contractor handling the project explained to newsmen last week that the delay in opening the park was as a result of the delay in approving funding request they made to the government. This is after the same government assured that the park would be open for use a week earlier.

Besides following through the new temporary measures in place which are yielding observable results, the new Osinbajo taskforce should also concern itself with long term measures that will return Apapa to its good old days.  Though relocating the numerous tank farms in Apapa will take great effort and enormous political will, it is doable and the next best thing to do.

Until this is done along with a functional rail system, the hope of driving through, as before, straight from Mile 2 to Apapa Wharf to link Eko Bridge into the Island will remain a day-dream no matter the kind of resurfacing Dangote Group in their magnanimity will give Apapa Oshodi Expressway.

Buhari says ,True federalism a must now

[dropcap]P[/dropcap]resident Muhammadu Buhari on Friday called for return to true Federalism where every component state uses its resources to develop their state.

At long last President Muhammadu Buhari, who had adopted lackluster  attitude towards true Federalism through restructuring of the country had cued into it.   He has become one of the Champions  for  the demand for true  Federalism to achieve a lasting peace in the country.

The President   may have been encourage  to  sing a different  song  with the high level of insecurity in different parts of the country.  From Bayelsa, Delta,  Rivers, Cross River, Katsina, Sokoto, Zamfara,  Kaduna,  Benue, Nasarawa,  Adamawa, Taraba, Yobe, Borno to Gombe, the story is the story: Insecurity. Take for instance, the north eastern states of  Yobe and Borno, the Islamic Fundamentalists, BokoHaram,  has been desperately fighting in the last 10 years  with government forces   and Multi-national Joint Task Force, MNJTF, to create  an Islamic  state in the region  while Bandits have  gradually taken over Zamfara state in the north west geo-political region  and spreading their tentacles to Katsina, the President home state, Kaduna,  and Nasarawa states.

The Katsina state born Nigerian  President   who could not hide his feelings  at an award ceremony  organised  by the  governors of the  All Progressive Congress, APC,  in his honour in Abuja, said   ”true  Federalism  is necessary  at this  juncture of the nation’s political and  democratic revolution”.  He noted that  ”some few privileged  individuals  and groups in the society  are exploiting the  and manipulating  the ethnic  and religious front-lines  for seeking  personal and partisan advantage ”.

This is a remarkable departure  on his stand on the matter  in the past. Recall that last year  he had told Nigerians based in France  that ”there should be  proper definition  of what Nigerians  want before  the  government   can delve into restructuring”.  Recall that  when the pressure  for the restructuring exercise   became pronounced in all  nooks and crannies  of the country between  2016 and 2017, Buhari had set up  a Committee  Chaired by Nasir el-Rufai, former minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Abuja, and now governor of Kaduna state  to look into the matter and make its recommendation to government  on how to achieve true Federalism for the country.

The Committee did not see it  as the government  throwing its weight on the   Atiku Abubakar, a former Vice President  and Presidential Candidate of  the People’s Democratic  Party, PDP, in the 2019, Presidential election,  idea,  as it  looked at the matter passionately.  It was said to have recommended  to the government the devolution of power to the states, resource  control,  creation of  state police  and merger of states  which are essential ingredients for true Federalism.

Many had expected the President to implement the recommendations of the Committee  as promised but that was how far he could go. They noted  the President would have saved the country of the increased rise in militia groups in the  different geopolitical regions of the country in the last four years.  This is evident going by the killing spree of Herdsmen in Benue  and Nasara states. The activities of Bandits in the north western state of  Zamfara, Katsina and Sokoto  speaks volume.

Edwin Clark: Vindicated on the Restructuring of Nigeria

Edwin Cark , an Ijaw leader, who has been  at the vanguard for the call for true Federalism in the country   over the years  has  repeatedly argued that for  the Buhari  anti-Corruption  war to be taken serious,    the power  presently concentrated  at the centre  will have to give way  which was in line with the Devolution of power recommended by  the El-Rufai Committee on Restructuring of Nigeria  to government last year. Note that  Victor Atta, a former governor of Akwa Ibom state  had lent his voice on how to achieve true Federalism   for the country when he stated the need  for resource control by states in the country , which  was also adopted by the El-Rufai Committee in their report.

He noted that the government diversification agenda would not achieve the desired impact   if it is still playing hide and sick with the restructuring of the country.  Recall that in  a paper   delivered   to mark Clark 90th birth day in Abuja, titled  ”Restructuring , true Federalism and  resource control: panacea  for enduring peace  and sustainable development in Nigeria, he had stated that in true Federation, a governor of  a state  may want to tap the potential n another state and invest in it to generate income. He noted that it would force the oil producing states to sit up to protect  these  oil resource which may be exhausted one day  with its state police.

Political watchers believe that  the country is on the match to achieving true Federalism now that Buhari, who had been against it over the years has thrown his weight behind it. Analysts believe that  the President may have seen that the north  has nothing to lose  if the government should go ahead to implement the  El-Rufai report on the restructuring of Nigeria which is gathering dust in the Presidency. This is because the seven states that make up the north west geo-political region is heaven for other  mineral resources in the country including gold,  which was why Bandits  are  on rampage in the region to protect the illegal miners   who making millions  of dollars annually.

More so,  oil has been discovered in Bauchi state, which had  remained the pride of the people of the Niger Delta.  With the increased support of the  Buhari Administration, Shell Petroleum Development Companies, SPDC, and other undisclosed oil Companies  have intensified their search for oil in the Lake Chad Basin.

A source  told Grassroots Publishers that both not for the  Boko Haram Insurgence in the  Borno state in the last ten years as their  Engineers and other support Staff are operating under fear to avoid falling into the awaiting  hands of the criminal elements who have no pity for human live.
