The Delta State Capital Territory Development Agency (DSCTDA) has intensified environmental sanitation activities across strategic areas of Asaba as the state prepares to host the Delta State Economic Summit from August 2 to August 5, 2026.
The large-scale cleanup exercise, which began on Thursday along the Asaba–Ibusa Expressway, is aimed at creating a clean, safe, and attractive environment for investors, business leaders, government officials, and other participants expected at the high-profile summit.
The sanitation operation involves the removal of sand deposits from road surfaces, clearing of illegal refuse dumps, sweeping of major roads, litter collection, and the evacuation of waste to designated government-approved disposal sites.
In addition to the cleanup exercise, the Agency organized a public sensitisation campaign at the Koka Interchange, where residents, traders, and motorists were educated on proper waste disposal and the importance of maintaining a healthy environment.
Speaking during an inspection of the ongoing exercise, the Director-General of DSCTDA, Mr. Patrick Ukah, emphasized the Agency’s determination to keep the state capital clean and presentable, especially during a period when Delta State will be welcoming important guests and potential investors.
Ukah monitored the sanitation operations alongside the Agency’s Manager of Administration, Mr. Vincent Okwofadgeke, while the Head of Environment, Mr. Isaac Nwosu, coordinated field activities to ensure compliance with environmental standards.
The awareness campaign was led by the Agency’s Manager of Corporate Affairs, Ms. Ngozi Peters, who encouraged residents and business owners to support government efforts by keeping their surroundings clean and avoiding indiscriminate dumping of waste.
DSCTDA further stressed that environmental sanitation remains a collective responsibility and urged residents to sustain good hygiene practices beyond the summit, noting that a clean environment is essential for public health, economic growth, and the continued beautification of Asaba, the Delta State capital.
