[dropcap]T[/dropcap]he Senator representing Delta North Senatorial District in the Senate Arm of the National Assembly and Chairman, Senate Committee on Niger Delta Affairs,Most Distinguished Senator Peter Onyelukachukwu Nwaoboshi(SPON),has distributed hybrid maize seeds to Association of Community Newspaper Publishers of Nigeria(ACNPN) in Delta State and beyond, so as as to achieve food security in the face of agricultural production disruptions of recent times.
Senator Nwaoboshi while distributing the hybrid maize seeds to needy Newspaper Publishers at the ACNPN secretariat, Asaba, according to his Media Aide, Comrade Ike Philip Abiagom, said it was parts of his efforts in alleviate poverty among its constituents.
This kind gesture was aimed at equipping Community Newspaper Publishers to be able to provide needed food items for the district and reduce total dependence on food items from other parts of the country.
Senator Nwaoboshi used the occasion to advice Community Publishers to embrace agriculture and agricultural value chains because Delta State is blessed with arable land that can be used to cultivate all sorts of food items all year round.
The Publishers of Ika Voice newspaper Pa. Joe Onyibe who spoke with newsmen at the distribution centre hailed Senator Nwaoboshi for counting them worthy of empowerment and promised that the seedlings would go a long way in boosting their agricultural business.
Also speaking, the vice chairman of Association of Community Newspaper Publishers of Nigeria(ACNPN), the Publisher of Ndokwa Vanguard, Comrade Alaska Ekele appealed to government at all levels to make access to loan easier for farmers in order to assist them acquire some farm equipment and machines adding that other political office holders should emulate our award winning Senator Nwaoboshi whose direct impact on thousands of constituents are undeniable and there for all to see.
