Distinguished Senator Peter Nwaoboshi, the immediate past Senator representing Delta North Senatorial District, has expressed heartfelt appreciation to the Governor of Delta State, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, for flagging off the construction of the long-awaited N21.3 Billion Okpanam–Ugbolu Road in Oshimili North Local Government Area.

Speaking shortly after the groundbreaking ceremony on Thursday in Okpanam, Senator Nwaoboshi described the project as “a long-overdue intervention that will bring tremendous relief to the people of Oshimili North and the entire Delta North zone.”
“I want to sincerely thank Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for this historic gesture. The Okpanam–Ugbolu Road has been a major concern for years. By starting this project, the Governor has once again demonstrated his commitment to even development and the wellbeing of our people,” Nwaoboshi said.
He noted that the road will not only ease traffic congestion in the Asaba metropolis but also open up economic opportunities for farmers, traders, and residents of surrounding communities.
“This project will link our people more effectively, promote trade, and encourage investments in Okpanam, Ugbolu, and their neighboring areas. The entire Oshimili North appreciates this bold step,” he added.
Senator Nwaoboshi also called on residents and community leaders to support the contractors and ensure that the project is completed on schedule.
“We must all play our part by protecting the project from encroachment and ensuring smooth progress. This is a legacy project for our local government,” he emphasized.
The groundbreaking event, performed by Governor Oborevwori, drew large crowds of community leaders, political stakeholders, and residents who hailed the development as a “new dawn” for the area.
Governor Oborevwori had earlier assured that the Okpanam–Ugbolu Road would be constructed with quality drainage systems and durable asphalt to ensure longevity. He reaffirmed that the project aligns with his administration’s MORE Agenda — Meaningful Development, Opportunities for All, Realistic Reforms, and Enhanced Peace and Security.
Community leaders and residents of both Okpanam and Ugbolu commended the governor for listening to their long-standing pleas, describing the project as a major boost to the infrastructural transformation of the Delta capital region.
The ceremony was attended by top government officials including Deputy Governor Sir Monday Onyeme, APC Deputy National Chairman (South) Chief Emma Eneukwu, Delta APC Chairman Elder Omeni Sobotie, traditional rulers, community leaders, and representatives of Levant Construction Company.
