Senator Nwaoboshi visits Deputy Governor, consoles him over father’s Demise

Distinguished Senator Peter Onyelukachukwu Nwaoboshi has extolled the virtue of father saying they are the ones who largely help shape the lives of their children.

Senator Nwaoboshi stated that yesterday while on a condolence visit to the Deputy Governor of Delta State, His Excellency, Sir Monday Onyeme, who recently lost his foster father.

Nwaoboshi described the loss of one’s father as saddening, according to his statement : “We received the news of the demise of your father with great sadness realising the impact the loss must be having on you and the entire Onyeme family. A father is a father. It is not an easy thing to lose a father no matter the age.”

It added, “The closeness of a son to the father is unexplainable. It is only those who have experienced it that can understand the sadness.

“I know you would have wished he to live forever but the good thing is that you are alive to ensure that you give him a befitting farewell. Another aspect of it is that he died at a ripe age. God was very kind to him and God has remained very kind to your family.

“we decided to come and condole with you and to assure you that we are with you in this moment of grief.

“The Onyemes may have lost a father but they have also gained an Angel in heaven who will watch over them.”

He prayed God to add more years to members of the family and for the repose of the soul of the deceased.

Responding Sir Onyeme thanked Senator Nwaoboshi whom he described as a compassionate leader who sees beyond the political environment to share in the grief of his family.

Onyeme said: “It feels different to lose a foster father. A father and a son relationship is also a special relationship. So when people come and say the passage is a celebration of life, you try to understand it but you can’t. But a visit like this gives you courage and I’m sure he is resting in peace.

“ You are a good man and you have shown that by being here . God will continue to guide you.I appreciate your coming. Thank you so much for coming,” he said.

Senator Nwaoboshi was accompanied on the visit by Chief Dr. Ben Iwezu, a former Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs,Hon. Pat Mozea, A former Commissioner and A former House of Assembly member, Hon. Henry Mordi aka Ojokojo and Hon. Leo Nkeaka (OHAMADIKE 1), who are both SSAs to the Executive Governor of Delta State.

Isunambogu Social Club Donates Chairs to Students of Omu Boys’ Secondary School,Ibusa

In a remarkable act of community development and support for education, the Isunambogu Social Club has generously donated 100 sets of desks and chairs to Students of Omu Boys’ Secondary School, Ibusa, in Oshimili North Local Government Area of Delta State. This initiative aims to improve the learning environment and enhance the overall academic experience of the students.

The donation comes as a response to the growing need for adequate classroom furniture, which had previously posed challenges for both students and teachers. Many students had been forced to share desks or sit in uncomfortable conditions, affecting their concentration and productivity. The intervention by the Isunambogu Social Club is, therefore, a welcome development that will provide comfort and stability for students preparing for their final examinations.

During the presentation ceremony, the President General of the Club, Engr. Patrick Okonji, emphasized their commitment to supporting education within the community. Speaking on behalf of the group, Engr. Okonji stated, “Education is the foundation of a prosperous society, and we believe that every child deserves a conducive learning environment. This donation is our way of ensuring that SS3 students have the necessary facilities to excel in their studies.”

The Chief Inspector of Education(CIE) Mrs Anyah Rosemary Nkechi,expressed deep appreciation for the donation, highlighting the impact it will have on both the students and the school as a whole.
“This gesture from the Isunambogu Social Club is highly commendable. It will go a long way in motivating our students and improving classroom conditions. We are truly grateful for this support,” he remarked.

Students who benefited from the donation also shared their excitement and gratitude. Many expressed how much of a relief it was to have comfortable seating, especially as they prepare for crucial examinations.
The Isunambogu Social Club, a group known for its philanthropic efforts, has continued to demonstrate its dedication to the progress of Ibusa and its people. This latest donation serves as a reminder of the power of community-driven initiatives in fostering growth and development.

Receiving the desks and chairs, the Principal of the School, Mrs Augustina Omife, thanked the Isunambogu Social Club for the impactful gesture and promised that they would be put to good use.

The recent Youth football tournament launch for Primary Schools in Ibusa is a Community-focused initiative that uses football as a universal language to foster positive relationships between Youths and Community.

The Chief Co-Ordinator of Ibusa Football Tournament, Mr. Kwasa Amatokwu who has a perfect understanding of relationship with the youths and other Ibusa football enthusiast( Organising Committee),have inaugurated the eleven (11) Primary Schools Sports Masters in Igbuzo to scout local talent and prepare them for the upcoming competitions. The Chief Co-Ordinator, who is a football enthusiast, said the aim of this tournament is to catch them young and bring development of sporting activities in Ibusa and Nigeria at large.

The Chief Co-Ordinator who further stated that the aim of the tournament is to unite Ibusa through spirit of sportsmanship, teamwork and community bonding called on other stakeholders to come together in order to have a formidable force in the overall development of Ibusa and Nigeria in general.

Amatokwu spoke to Newsbreeze during the inauguration of Sports Masters in Ibusa recently, He said the competition is designed to identify young talent,provide them with better training facilities,and prepare them for future opportunities. How do we achieve this? We select talented players after this competition, provide them with specialized training, and invite football clubs, including international ones, for scouting purposes. This approach enhances their skills and open doors for them to play abroad.

For me, this is about giving back to the community and contributing to the growth of sports in Nigeria. We have been successful so far because we have been organizing Ibusa Football tournaments for forth years(40 years) now and we have some players who are playing outside Nigeria,” he said.

“I am excited to be part of this great initiative because I love the unity that football games bring, especially in a multi-diverse society like ours where people from different backgrounds come together to cheer for a common cause. Therefore, the organizer of Ibusa Football Competition deserves to be applauded for promoting peace and unity through sports.

“I am also happy that through this project, we are creating another opportunities for young people to build a sustainable career and make a living in football,” Amatokun stated.

On his part, he thank the major Sponsor of this tournament Evan(Barr.)Nyemike Nkadi,for investing in a project of this nature and also called on the government and other stakeholders to support such initiatives, emphasizing the long-term benefits for the country’s sporting development.

His words, “Organizing a competition of this nature is never easy, especially in terms of financial demands, given the huge logistics involved in managing activities, ensuring player safety, and taking care of players’ welfare. All hands must be on desk because of the challenges ahead.

The Chief Co-Ordinator handed the eleven (11) participating primary Schools teams with two adidas balls each and other training kits. He assured that the tournament will be professionally managed with a professional referees to ensure fair play and reduce controversy.

Amatokwu use this opportunity to appeal to the government and other stakeholders to invest in this initiative, as we are focused on grooming our youths and nurturing the next generation of football stars.

It was E.H. Carr who gave a classic definition of History as ‘an unending dialogue between the present and the past’; he would proceed to add that ‘the chief function of (the) historian is to master and understand the past as a key to the understanding of present’. My take here is that history attempts to show the inherent relationship between the present and the past.

In this piece, I will assume the seat of a historian, despite the obvious difficulty, especially within the context of the definition advanced by Carr. That is, I would have love to demonstrate the unique relationship between the Distinguished Senator Peter Onyelukachukwu Nwaoboshi and His Royal Majesty Prof. Epiphany Azinge,the 14th Asagba of Asaba but let it be a topic for another day.

His Royal Majesty Prof. Epiphany Azinge (SAN, OON, FNIALS, FICMIC, LLD(HC), KSJI, KSG), the Asagba of Asaba accompanied by his Palace Chiefs paid a visit to Distinguished Senator Peter Onyelukachukwu Nwaoboshi in his Asaba White House residence on Saturday 27th September,2025.  So, the rare visit of HRM Azinge to Senator Nwaoboshi highlights the cordiality between them for years.

Senator Nwaoboshi received in audience, His Royal Majesty, Prof. Epiphany Azinge, the Asagba of Asaba and his Palace Chiefs, He praised the visionary and unifying leadership of the His Royal Majesty Prof. Epiphany Azinge, who will soon celebrate his one year Anniversary on the throne as the 14th Asagba of Asaba.He described his reign as a remarkable period of peace, progress, and development for the kingdom and the state at large.

Senator Nwaoboshi said since he ascend the throne as 14th Asagba of Asaba, HRM had demonstrated exceptional leadership characterized by extraordinary acumen, wisdom, and allegiance to the well-being of his people”, noting that his reign had strengthened unity among the people and fostered mutual understanding with neighbouring communities.

He credited the Monarch’s commitment to dialogue and conflict resolution for sustaining peace and stability within the kingdom, a feat he said had attracted the much-needed development to the area.

Publishers, Journalists, friends bid farewell as Pa Joe Onyibe laid to rest

The ancient town of Abavo,Delta State stood still yesterday as the remains of Pa Joe Onyibe,nonagenarian father, the Publisher of Ika Weekly and veteran journalist were on Saturday laid to rest at his residence in Abavo, amid tears and wailing.

Pa Onyibe, an accomplished and renowned journalist, passed on to glory after a brief illness. Until his death, Onyibe was the Publisher of Ika Weekly and a member of Association of Community Newspaper Publishers of Nigerian(ACNPN) and Nigeria Union of Journalist(NUJ).

His body was lowered to Mother Earth at exactly 12:40 pm shortly after the funeral mass and the atmosphere was sombre at his residence. At his graveside, tears rolled down faces of both immediate family members and other mourners, expressing anguish over a great loss.

Members of Association of Community Newspaper Publishers of Nigerian(ACNPN) led by its State Chairman, Comrade Ike Philip Abiagom, as well as editors from various media houses in Delta State,and parish members were on hand to pay their last respect to Pa Onyibe.

Before the commencement of the requiem mass, the body was reverently placed by the pallbearers at the entrance of the Church to be received by the priest with the ministers bearing the cross, lighted candles, holy water, the Holy Bible, and a white pall as symbols of faith and eternal life.

Presiding over the requiem mass, the Reverend , preaching from first and second readings respectively, hailed the late Pa Onyibe as a man who lived a life of impact.

The Reverend, who described Onyibe’s death as sudden, said he was a man known for offering support to the church and for helping those around him to shine, also hailed him as a committed family man.

The Reverend described the late Onyibe as a man of courage to the very end. He called friends and associates of late Onyibe not to forsake and abandon his family after the burial.

Speaking on behalf of the Association of Community Newspaper Publishers of Nigerian(ACNPN),Comrade Ike Philip Abiagom, described the late Onyibe as a dedicated and thorough-bred professional who distinguished himself in his career as a Community Newspaper Publishers.

He conveyed the sympathy of the members and prayed that God should give the family fortitude to bear the irreparable loss, while urging the family to take solace in the fact that Onyibe had lived a fulfilled life.
late Onyibe was a father, a kinsman and somebody most of us looked onto in journalism, his death though shocking, quite surprising too, we are hoping that God will console his family and the rest of us who will still carry on the mantle he has left within journalism space, we will continue to make him proud and do all we can do.

“And another point is that for our colleagues, journalists, when you are in in need, in trouble or ill always pick up your phone, a problem shared is sometimes half solved, a good number of us were not even aware that he was ill until it was too late, and I am hoping that going forward some of these incidents will be prevented, and if our colleagues are in need and they need us, we should always be our brothers keeper, like the Bible prescribe, and I pray for the repose of his soul.”

Pa Joe Onyibe’s son,Pastor Stephen Onyibe, said the hearts of the family were heavy for losing a father who was always there for the family, noting that what made his late father great was not only his professional brilliance but his humanity.

“He gave love freely, valued honesty above all, and carried himself with humility that made everyone feel seen and respected. He was comfortable in the profession as he was with his family, and to us, he was our foundation and strength,”he said.

He thanked relatives, colleagues, and friends for honouring their late father in a special way.

He said: “We appreciate our relatives, who stood by us from the very beginning, colleagues and church members who came from far and near. It has enlightened us that we are not walking this road alone”.

Professor Steve Okecha, a respected figure in Nigeria’s education community, has fired back at Senator Prince Ned Nwoko’s assertion that Delta North is Igbo. In a statement, Okecha expressed concerns about Nwoko’s approach to the Anioma state creation issue, suggesting that a referendum may be necessary.
 
“Initially, you and your aides gave the impression that Anioma state alone would be created by fiat, bypassing the Constitution. Now, you and your team are beginning to realise that a referendum is inevitable,” Okecha said.
 
He questioned Nwoko’s understanding of Delta North history, advising him to consult professional historians. “You studied law and history, probably European history, at Keele University in the United Kingdom. You have no grasp of Delta North history, let alone African history. The history of Delta North being dished out by you and your aides is FABU – mere fiction. Listen to professional historians [I am not one of them], and do not depend on quack storytellers.,” Okecha advised.
 
The professor further argued that state creation is not a one-man affair and expressed disappointment in Nwoko’s approach to representing Delta North. “State creation is not a ONE-MAN affair,” he emphasized.
 
Okecha also poked fun at Nwoko’s aides, describing them as “wild patrol dogs and hooligans” who have done “incalculable and immeasurable damage” to his image.

Your aides are a colony of beggars and parasites, most of whom are from Ukwuani-Ndosumili land. They are advanced almajirai: unguarded, uncouth and raw. When the cloud clears in 2026, the weed and tramadol boys will search for cassava farms to cultivate. The lazy, lousy lawyers will hang around court premises, to charge and bail:  debasing the noble profession.
 
You studied law and history, probably European history, at Keele University in the United Kingdom. You have no grasp of Delta North history, let alone African history. You and your aides are not sociologists, not anthropologists, not biographers, not chronologists, not archivists, not historiographers, not antiquarians. You should, therefore, not distort and dabble into Delta North history.
 
Mister Senator, the way you are carrying on, you may soon be neither here nor there. Tell us, do you want to continue fighting for unrealisable Anioma state, or do you want to return to the Senate in 2027? Please stay with us in Delta State. I hope and pray that Ohaneze Ndigbo does not lure you to the Southeast with a cheap senatorial slot in one of the Igbo states, now that they are your  kit and kin.
 
Your initial admirers are sad and disappointed that you have abandoned the representation of Delta North in the Red Chamber for optics and showingoffness. I am one of those disappointed.
 
I learned about the four cardinal points in the primary school: East, West, North and South. Geographically, Delta State was part of Western Nigeria, while beyond the Niger bridge at Asaba, was Eastern Nigeria. I am a scientist, and a critical thinker. Mister Senator, you want a state to be created in Western Nigeria to make up for the shortfall in Eastern Nigeria. Does it make sense?
 
Your argument is NOT convincing. You want an additional state to be created in South-South to be part of the South-East. This is abracadabra; it is most embarrassing. Barefaced illogicality. One does not require a bachelor’s degree in Basic Reasoning to be able to see clearly the incongruity, laughableness and contradiction. 
 
You have said recently, “I represent Anioma state.”  There is NO such state in Nigeria. You have also said that, Anioma state would be signed, sealed and delivered to you. You are certainly operating outside Nigeria. State creation is not a ONE-MAN affair.”

Distinguished Senator Peter Onyelukachukwu Nwaoboshi (SPON),consoled with the former Chief of Naval Staff, Admiral Dele Joseph Ezeoba (Rtd.), on the passing of his father, Chief Raphael Odiaka Ezeoba.

Nwaoboshi in a statement issued on Monday in Abuja, expressed sadness over the death of Admiral Ezeoba’s Father, saying that his passing, “has created a great vacuum, not only in the Ezeoba family but also in Delta State as a whole”.

Distinguished Senator Nwaoboshi described Pa. Ezeoba as a compassionate Father who lived a life of service, discipline, integrity,and a loving, yet unassuming community leader who has been a great source of inspiration, hope and Unity to the Ezeoba Family as well as all those who have come across him”.

Nwaoboshi, appreciated the Lord God Almighty for the good life Pa Ezeoba lived and said that Pa Ezeoba demonstrated the strength and power of God even in old age, noting that his demise was a glorious one for the fact that he has accomplished all that God had assigned him to do here on earth.

Papa has contributed greatly to the development of Delta State and we make bold to say that former Chief of Naval Staff pedigree and accomplishments over the years would not have been possible without papa’s guidance, prayers and advice.

“You and your entire family have to be consoled for the fact that Papa has done very well. He will always be remembered for his love, kindness, steadfastness, deeply religious disposition and commitment to peace and unity of Delta State.

Aniagwu Dismisses Bias Claims Against Oborevwori Administration

Delta State Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Mr. Charles Aniagwu, has dismissed claims of bias against Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s administration, insisting that the governor remains resolutely committed to fairness, peace, and even development across the state. 

Addressing journalists in Asaba on Monday, Aniagwu described the negative narratives being pushed by political actors ahead of the 2027 elections as “false and completely at variance with reality.” 

He stressed that Gov. Oborevwori has consistently governed as “a governor for all Deltans,” irrespective of ethnic or political affiliations, noting that development projects and appointments cut across the 25 local government areas of the state.

“The governor knows indeed that he is an Urhobo man, but he also realizes that he is governor of the entire state,” Aniagwu said.

“He has continued to pilot the affairs of Delta not along ethnic lines but with fairness, equity, and inclusiveness.”

Highlighting the administration’s four-point agenda, the commissioner explained that peace and security remain the bedrock of Gov. Oborevwori’s governance philosophy. He noted that the governor had recently directed the setting up of a peace and reconciliation committee to engage aggrieved individuals, stressing that peace was essential for meaningful development.

Aniagwu also urged members of the political class to put aside divisive tendencies and support the administration’s developmental drive. He maintained that none of the governor’s critics could fault him on performance, pointing to the numerous projects across riverine and upland communities, investment in education, and social programmes targeted at lifting citizens out of poverty.

“The commitment of Governor Oborevwori to a peaceful and prosperous Delta is unshaken,” Aniagwu declared.

“He has carried everybody along, and his governance style values all Deltans as one people.”

Labour Faults Public Service Dress Code

The State Executive Council (SEC) of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), has expressed reservation for the Public Service Dress Code recently introduced by the State Civil Service through a circular from the Office of the Head of Service.

In a communique issued at the end of an emergency meeting presided over by the State Chairman of the NLC, Comrade Goodluck Ofobruku, to deliberate on pressing issues affecting the welfare of workers in the state, SEC in session reaffirmed that the extant Public Service Rules remained the guiding document on the issue of decent dressing within the public service.

It held that some of the specifics outlined in the circular were not fully in consonance with the provisions of the Public Service Rules and unanimously resolved that workers should avoid dressing indecently or shabbily to work, while calling for a review of the prescribed specifics on dressing to ensure clarity, fairness, and practicality across all cadres of the service.

SEC in session urged stakeholders to always consult the leadership of the NLC before reaching resolutions affecting workers in the state, stressing the need for government to empower all categories of workers to dress like Law Officers, Protocol Officers, and staff of the House of Assembly, among others.

In the communique, signed by the State Secretary of the NLC, Comrade Enekhawore Acrobat, SEC in session commended the Congress Chairman, Comrade Goodluck Ofobruku, for the proactive steps taken so far, reaffirming its commitment to constructive engagements, industrial harmony, and the overall progress of Delta State, while standing firm in defending the rights, dignity, and welfare of workers and pensioners.

It appreciated the Governor of Delta State, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, for releasing N10 billion for the payment of pensioners, noting that the gesture demonstrated government’s commitment to the welfare of retirees who had dedicated their active years to the service of the state, and urged the state government to go the extra mile to clear backlogs of arrears of pension.

SEC in session unanimously recognized the existence of Motorcycle Operators Union of Nigeria in Delta State and condemned the reported harassment of its members.

While Labour was not in support of lawlessness or recklessness of members of the association, it insisted that the rights of duly recognized unions must be respected, and condemned the letter written by the SSG, Dr Kingsley Emu, to the Police and the Army.

SEC in session called for an immediate halt to the harassment of the Union members, warning that continued intimidation might place Government and Labour on an avoidable collision course.
