Compt. Odibu has magically turned around the operations of the Oyo/Osun Customs Command

Compt. Odibu Christopher Ogar,               Controller, Oyo/ Osun Customs                   Command

[dropcap]T[/dropcap]rue leaders discover and understand who they are and what their purposes are; they influence their environment more than their environment influence them. Even though every human being on this planet has an indication of leadership, most of us do not have the courage to cultivate it but smart ones like Comptroller Odibu Christopher Ogar  do. He can be described as a man who cuts on aura. A diligent man who is always focused on the things he wants and knows exactly how to achieve them.He is an excellent Icon of accountability, a   result oriented fellow, who has passion for excellence and known for his dedication.

Compt. Odibu, Controller of Oyo/Osun Customs Command, of the Nigeria Customs Service, who by any matrix, can be called an anti-smuggling czar, has vowed not to relent in the national assignment of ridding the country of contraband items, describing smugglers as economic saboteurs who are bent on circumventing the law. Interestingly. He has an unending catalogue of seizures and arrests made within his zone. The Oyo/ Osun Customs Command of Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), has continued to strengthened its enforcement capacity to ensure that no stone is left unturned in the rage against smuggling in the zone. The Compt. Odibu led proactive team has continued to clampdown on unrepentant smugglers who are working for personal gains, to the detriment of our economy.

Comptroller Odibu Christopher Ogar hails from Cross River State of Nigeria. He obtained B.A. (Hons) in History from the University of Calabar. He joined the Nigeria Customs Service in 1987 as an Assistant Superintendent I of Customs. Since then, he has worked mainly in the Enforcement Unit, Revenue Unit and the Customs Intelligence Unit respectively. In the course of his working career, he has attended various professional courses that have boosted his experience as a seasoned Customs Officer. Sequel to his present posting, Comptroller Odibu was the Comptroller, Human Resources Department Headquarters, Abuja in 2016 before he was transferred to Ikorodu Lighter Terminal Area Command in 2017.

In his maiden address to journalists in Ibadan, Oyo State, when he took over from the immediate past CAC, Comptroller Chikan Elisha David (now the Assistant Comptroller General (Human Resources and Development at the Customs Command Headquarters), he declared pointedly that “the Nigeria Customs service zero tolerance for smuggling is unalterable”, stressing that “the service will do everything in its capacity to fight it and that the Command under his watch will continue to deal decisively with the economic saboteurs and work for the security and well being of the people of Nigeria,”;

It was on records that barely two weeks of his assumption of duty, Comptroller Odibu paraded multi-million-naira seizures by his Command. The Oyo/Osun Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) also intercepted contraband with a Duty Paid Value (DPV) of N50.63 million between April and June. The seized items included 13 used vehicles with total DPV of N21.14 million and 1,669 50kg bags of rice with DPV of N14.75 million. The command also intercepted 44 kegs of vegetable oil with DPV of N754, 469 while the DPV for seized 38 bales of second-hand clothes amounted to N5.83 million, (15) 50kg bags of sugar with DPV of N490,000 and 13 means of conveyance vehicle with DPV of N7. 66 million. The revenue drive of the command has continued to rise under Compt. Odibu’s watch as the Command generated N9. 436 billion between January and May, compared to revenue generated same period last year was N7. 22 billion;showing a clear increase with the revenue generated this year.
“All these achievements would not have been actualised without the gallant efforts of Compt. Odibu and his proactive officers and the existing synergy with other units like the Customs Intelligence Unit, Federal Operations Unit and the CGC’s strike force.”Compt. Odibu will continue to draw on the robust intelligence gathering strategy on border security and ensuring a secure environment for legitimate business transactions.

Compt. Odibu, the anti-smuggling czar stated that his proactive team would sustain the tempo and increase it by acquiring more working tools to boost effectiveness. His experience in Customs has shown that a well equipped and motivated Customs officer can deal decisively with smugglers and smoke them out of their illicit business.

Williams Akporeha led NUPENG is Focusing on members’ welfare- Comrade Alex

Comrade Alex Agwanwor,
National Treasurer, Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers, (NUPENG).

[dropcap]S[/dropcap]ome leaders are born, some achieve leadership, some have leadership thrust upon them, while only very few have all three embedded in them. Comrade Alex Agwanwor, the present National Treasurer of NUPENG , the trail-blazing unionist  mogul  par excellence from Rivers State, is one of the few good men. He is an embodiment of cerebral articulation, the essence of unparalleled philanthropy, the epitome of intellectual and breathtaking simplicity. The personification of undiluted humanness, the perfect example of leadership symbolism, the paragon of idealism, the soul of humanity, the heart of warrior, the perfect gentleman. It is certainly impossible to gloss over his attributes for greatness. He is a perfect gentleman, a man of valour, the bringer of rain. In the gallery of great leaders and great men, he is without doubt, a rare masterpiece.

Comrade Alex Agwanwor is a man with the divine prowess of touching lives in a very positive way. He is humble, unassuming, intelligent, articulate, a philanthropist per excellence .Recently, delegates of the Grassroots Newspaper Publishers paid him a courtesy visit where he shed more light on several issues mostly  the new proactive leadership of NUPENG. Please read on . . .

Can we meet you sir?

My name is Comrade Alex Agwanwor, the National Treasurer of Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers, (NUPENG).

Can you take us through your Profile as a Unionist?

Well, I started far back in 2001. At the Branch level, became active in the workers’ struggle and emancipation. In 2003, I was elected as the Branch Treasurer in my Company. In 2009, I was elected as the Zonal Assistant Secretary and in September 2017, I was elected the Zonal Chairman, Port-Harcourt Zonal Council and by the grace of God, in April 2018, I was elected the National Treasurer of NUPENG.

Briefly tell us the NUPENG’s present leadership achievements

Infact, we work as a team with the National President, Comrade Williams Akporeha as the captain of the ship. I will say that since he took over leadership at the National level, he has made some fundamental progress in terms of profiling the union. We have also met with public and private organizations to strengthen the new image of the union, taking the necessary steps to protect the workers’ rights. As a union, it is our responsibility to ensure that oil workers who are our members have their rights, jobs protected. We also ensure we partner with various companies, and organizations both public and private in achieving all these. I think this is all I can say for now; with time, our actions will speak for us.

How can you describe your National President, Comrade Williams Akporeha. Do you think he can take NUPENG to greater height?

Comrade Williams Akporeha I would say is a special and rare breed. He is a rooted unionist , A man who was elected unopposed because he has shown dexterity on labour related issues over the years. He is a core unionist who rose through the ranks in NUPENG to get to the exalted office of President, he has crossed many water and bridges. He needs not to be told what the workers are facing. The position he is occupying today is not by mistake. I think it is a well deserved position because he started his leadership role in NUPENG as a branch Secretary, Branch Chairman and later became Warri Zone Treasurer, Warri Zonal Chairman and Vice President, Warri Zone respectively with many indelible records. A very proactive and gallant fellow who was also Delta State Vice Chairman of Nigeria Labour Congress and Delta State Chairman of NLC. The strength and character of Akporeha as a leading unionist was defined by the doggedness of a man who has lived a life full of dynamic struggles and fruitful activism with vast experience, many active years and excellent track records in industrial relations and ultimately as a man with badge of honour, humility and integrity. Infact, he is a man of intellect, vision and purpose. My wish is that God will continue to enrich him with wisdom and vision to take the union to the next level.

What is the hope of oil workers in Nigeria as new administration has set in?

As we all know that the oil and gas sector is the mainstream of Nigerian economy today and as a union knowing full well we have a leadership that can stand solidly behind them to fight for their right by engaging all the stakeholders in oil and gas sector, the oil workers should therefore should continue to support the present leadership in order to achieve this feat.

What is your take on the Apapa gridlock as it affects NUPENG?

It is seriously appalling and disturbing. Recall that just recently, the Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria gave ultimatum to the security agencies in Lagos state to clear the Apapa gridlock. So, I think the federal government is working to curb the gridlock. Meanwhile, there is need to open up the seaports in other parts of the country to decongest ports in Lagos. Also, the designation of the Calabar, Port Harcourt and Warri ports for cargo transaction would bring the perennial traffic at the Apapa ports to an end.

What is your legacy?

I would like to be remembered as a union activist; a fellow, who protected workers’ rights, jobs and improved their welfare.

Buhari, Osinbajo, Tinubu, Ambode, others honour Jim Ovia

, Bola Tinubu, Lagos State Governor Akinwunmi Ambode and Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo at the book launch

[dropcap]P[/dropcap]resident Muhammadu Buhari on Monday commended the founder and Chairman of Zenith Bank, Jim Ovia, for his contributions to entrepreneurship in Nigeria. Buhari gave the commendation in a message at the public presentation and launch of Mr Ovia’s book “Africa Arise and Shine” in Lagos.

He said Mr Ovia had contributed so much to inspiring entrepreneurs, particularly the Nigerian youths. “It is my pleasure to convey my congratulations to you on the publication of the book ‘Africa rise and shine,’ which you authored.

“I commend you in this contribution to the knowledge base of Nigeria’s entrepreneurs, particularly the Nigerian youth.“Your journey in building one of our country’s most iconic enterprise is an encouragement to our fellow citizens. Congratulations on this achievement,” Mr Buhari wrote.

The Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo, in his speech said that successful people in the country owed the society three taxes.

Mr Osinbajo described the three as personal income and corporate tax, social and civic tax.He, however, said Mr Ovia was not one of such people as he was a law abiding citizen who discharged his obligations in tax payments. The vice president also lauded Mr Ovia’s philanthropic gestures, particularly his investment in education where he said Obi’s impressed him by his many feats.

The Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Mr Godwin Emefiele, said that Mr Ovia possessed many qualities which all ought to be emulated by professionals.

According to him, in the book, Mr Ovia shares important words of wisdom drawn from his more than 38-year experience as a trail blazer in Nigeria’s banking sector and his experience in the telecommunications and insurance sectors.

“The book conveys an inspirational message on universal principles that are applicable in every country which can serve as a guide to millions of young Nigerians on how to succeed.

“These principles are devotion to knowledge, commitment to excellence and courage to dare where many feared.

“As you will find in the book, these factors were instrumental in enabling him to build a US$16 billion conglomerate from barely N203 million at start-up of this empire.

“For those of us who know him and have worked under him, Jim Ovia is a stickler for knowledge and is deeply committed to excellence.”

Mr Emefiele said those were important principles that should guide local and foreign investors in their approach to the Nigerian and African markets.

He said that the key success factors for investors should be clear understanding of the potential of the market, leveraging technology and innovation in providing superior products and services to a market of about 200 million people, in the case of Nigeria.

“If these principles are followed like Mr Jim Ovia has done in Nigeria as well as in other parts of the world, you can expect to receive huge rewards for your efforts.

The Lagos State Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, highlighted the contributions of Mr Ovia to the accountancy and banking professions in Nigeria.

Mr Ambode called on leading entrepreneurs in Africa to take time to expose the younger generations to their inspiring stories with a view to showing them how to become successful business owners.

He said it was important for successful entrepreneurs like the author of the book to tell the story of how they were able to navigate the business climate to inspire others who looked forward to be like them.

He commended the author for taking out time to write the book, saying Mr Ovia’s contributions to the banking and accountancy professions could not be downplayed.

“Obviously, the truth is there is no person that has actually gone through the profession of accountancy that would not have had something to do with Jim Ovia,” Mr Ambode said.

The author said internet was changing the world which had enabled people to do online transactions, online sales, online education and everything.

He said that an economy driven by technology would always blossom.

“So, for us to blossom the Nigerian economy, lets start to digitise the economy. if we digitise the economy, it will continue to grow.

“If we use technology to drive our manufacturing process, our agriculture and healthcare, we will know what that will do for us”.

Mr Ovia said that what inspired him to write the book was the need to change the narrative of African continent.

“The narrative of Africa has been something so pathetic.

“When you Google about Africa then, the first things that come out is that it is a continent of complex, a continent of corruption and of coups.

“That was played out very dramatically when The Economist magazine had on their front page that Africa then was a continent of coup and a continent of corruption. But after two decades, that narrative started changing. Today, we now know that Africa is truly rising,” he said.

Mr Ovia said that African countries had recorded GDP per capita of above 1,000 dollars, whereas about 20 years ago, it was below 500 dollars.

“So, for me, Africa is rising. Twenty years ago, only few African countries had mobile phones, but today, all the African countries, not only have mobile phones, they also have broadband technology and internet penetration is high.

“Africa is rising by embracing technology.

“Amazon is now over $1 trillion. This Amazon doesn’t have a factory anywhere.

“They don’t have any oil well at all, but has over $1 trillion in market capitalisation and richer than Nigeria and twice the GDP of Nigeria.

“It is because they embraced technology and the internet,” he said.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the book is essentially about the story of how Mr Ovia commenced his business in the 1980s and now worth 16 billion dollars. Dignitaries at the event included Governors Emmanuel Udom (Akwa Ibom), Darius Ishaku (Taraba), Ifeanyi Okowa (Delta), Rotimi Akeredolu (Ondo), Ibrahim Shettima (Borno), Ibrahim Dankwambo (Gombe), Kayode Fayemi (Ekiti Governor-elect).

They also included the National Leader of All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu, National Chairman of the party, Adams Oshiomhole, Segun Osoba Christopher Kolade, Emeka Anyaoku, Akintola Williams, Tony Elumelu, Folorunso Alakija, Aigboje Aig-Imoukhuede and Oba of Lagos, Rilwan Akiolu I. [dropcap] D[/dropcap]elta State High Court sitting in Asaba has sentenced one James Okporua Otobrise to seventeen years imprisonment for kidnapping the media aide to former chairman of DESOPADEC and Warri based journalist, Monday Whiskey.

Hon. Justice F.N. Azinge (Mrs.) who delivered the judgement said, “I have considered the submissions of the learned Defence Counsel who urged the Court to ameliorate the sentence. “It is common knowledge that the spate of kidnapping is on the increase in Nigeria, particularly Delta State.

“The sentence is to act as deterrent to others who believe that kidnapping is a lucrative enterprise or business and to rid the society of people like the Defendant who live on crime.

“Therefore I will pronounce the sentence as is provided under the law. You James Okporua Otobrise is hereby sentenced as follows:

Count I. 7 years imprisonment. Count II. 10 years imprisonment. To run consecutively. This is the judgement of the Court.”

The prosecution counsel, a Deputy Director, T.P.I, Uraih and E.S.Ifedora slugged the matter out legally for the defendant.

The offence is punishable under Section 516 of the Criminal Code, Cap C21, Volume 1, Laws of Delta State of Nigeria, 2006 and Section 364(2) of the Criminal Code,Cap C21, Volume 1, laws of Delta State of Nigeria 2006.

Otobrise allegedly kidnapped the Warri based Journalist, Monday Whiskey on the 19th of March 2012 at Orhunwhorhun in Udu Local Government Area of Delta State.

They held the Journalist captive in an uncompleted building belonging to him (kidnapper), blindfolded and chained his hands and legs. However, the Journalist managed to escape through a window with chains in his hands from the kidnappers den on the 20th of March 2012.

In his bid to escape, the victim ran into the kidnapper unknowingly to him who offered to help him (journalist) by taking him on his motorcycle. However, realizing that his helper was the kidnapper who carried him that night, a scuffle ensued between them when the cyclist was s on motion.

The journalist gave the kidnapper a human bite during the scuffle which led to the imbalance of the motorcycle as it fell down.

Sensing danger, the kidnapper zoomed off under the dark night into adjoining roads leaving his victim until the current Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ Warri Correspondents’ Chapel, Comrade Akpokona Omafuaire who was traveling through the route coincidentally came to the rescue of the victim along Oguname-Olomu.

Omafuaire carried his colleague to Otu-Jeremi Police Station with chains in boths hands and legs that same night.

Police investigation led to the arrest of Otobrise, the kidnapper wherein he made confessional statements voluntarily.

Speaking with newsmen on Monday, Prince Monday Whiskey expressed confidence on the judiciary for the judgement and also thanked members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ Delta State Council for standing by him.  I also commend the Judiciary as the last hope of the common man for vindicating me from the allegation of crime as perpetuated by some powerful forces within the Delta State Government”.

Osun 2018: IGP, INEC chairman assure Nigerians of credible election

Ibrahim Idris
Inspector General of Police

[dropcap]T[/dropcap]he Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Ibrahim Idris, and the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Mahooud Yakubu, have assured Nigerians and political stakeholders that the Osun State September 22 governorship election would be credible based on efforts put in place.
The IGP and INEC chairman both gave the assurance while speaking at the “Election Stakeholders Forum on the 2018 Governorship Election”, organised by INEC on Monday in Osogbo.
Yakubu in his address said the commission had improved on the functionality of the commission’s technological innovations to safeguard the integrity and credibility of elections.
He said INEC would ensure that personnel and election materials arrived promptly at polling units, the smart card readers functioned optimally and that counting of ballots, collation and declaration of results would be prompt, open, transparent.
“Our ultimate objective is to ensure that the choice of who becomes the next governor of Osun is entirely in the hands of the voters.
“Votes will count and only the choice made by the people of Osun and nothing else would determine the outcome of the election,” he said.
He said the commission had overcome past challenges associated with elections malpractices in the country, and as the process of election could no longer be corrupted, those that want to subvert it had now made the electorate their target through vote-buying.
The INEC chairman said the commission had reviewed the administration of the polling units to make it difficult for voters to expose their marked ballot papers to intending vote-buyers.
He said that though people could not be banned from taking their cell phones to the polling units because it would be difficult for them to take pictures and report malpractices to INEC as requested of the people, but the electorate from point of accreditation and voting, would not be allowed to be with his/her cell phones.
Idris on his part, assured the people of adequate security before, during and after the election, saying that constant forums orgainsed by INEC ahead of elections would always help the police in strategising and providing formidable security.
Idris said the police, complemented by other security agents would provide the needed security for the election, adding that 18,426 police officers would be deployed to Osun for the election.
“Arrangements have been concluded to deploy over 18,426 police personnel, including conventional and PMF units, Intelligence and technical teams to provide security.
“This number excludes the support services to be provided by other security personnel from the Armed Forces, the Immigration Service, the Prisons, the Custom and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps to complement the efforts of the police.
“Our brother politicians and their supporters are advised to desist from actions that may precipitate violence before, during and after the election.
“The police officers deployed for this election have been lectured and educated on electoral conducts, behaviours, laws and offences, and are therefore expected to conduct themselves in a highly ethical manner,” Idris said.
He disclosed that the Federal Government had provided funds for the payment of the officers allowances.

Oko communities in Delta State submerged by flood

[dropcap]O[/dropcap]ko communities in Delta State,  have been swept by flood. Oko community made up of Oko-Ogbele, Oko-Amakom and Oko-Anala appeared to be the worst hit.
Though no fewer than 3000 buildings, including public and private schools in the area, had been sacked by the flood, which is now threatening to invade other towns and villages, some of the affected families were yet to vacate their submerged homes, which are littered with floating human and household wastes. Though the areas, like several other communities on the bank of Forcados River, are subjected to perennial flooding, the rising volume of water has been a source of grave concern to the natives, many of whom are now exposed to the vagaries of the elements.

A concerned native, Mr. Ifedi Alibo, while lamenting the plight of the affected families, said unless urgent remedial steps were taken by the authorities, there might be an outbreak of epidemic in the areas as some of those displaced were still relying on the polluted water from their boreholes and wells for drinking and domestic use.
He pleaded with the authorities to find a lasting solution to the flood menace and save them the bitter experience of losing all their life savings and property in one swoop to the flood.

2019: Niger Delta militants endorse PMB for second term, say Buhari better than Jonathan

[dropcap]M[/dropcap]ilitant groups under the Reformed Niger Delta Avengers (RNDA) have declared their support for the second term ambition of President Muhammad Buhari, saying PMB is the only president that has shown commitment to peace and willingness to the development of the Niger Delta since he came on board in 2015.

Leader of Reformed Niger Delta Avengers, RNDA, Major General John Mark Ezonebi at a crucial meeting held at the Benin River in Rivers state with various service commanders, declared, after appraising the administration of Dr. Good Luck Jonathan and President Muhammad Buhari, that the incumbent is better placed for a second term in office. The RNDA, which is a coalition of Nine Militant groups, said though the Niger Delta region have suffered from under development and massive looting of oil resources under the PDP administration for 16 years including their own, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan, the coalition endorsed President Muhammadu Buhari for another second term in office due to his integrity characterized so far in fighting against menance of corruption.

The RNDA, in a statement made available via email, warned those they referred to as self acclaimed leaders of Niger Delta region and “the so called PDP South South Governors to stop cerebrating looters who contributed to the under development of the Niger Delta region the likes of Chief Dr E k Clark and the Pandef group of failed corrupt PDP members who were the self acclaimed father to former president good luck Jonathan who mislead Jonathan and the likes of Diezani’s & Orubebe that looted the funds meant for the development of the region to dry.”

“Furthermore the RNDA with the coalition of the nine militant groups in the Creek has endorsed president Muhammadu Buhari for another second term in office due to for his integrity characterized so far in fighting against menance of corruption to standstill in the country because the it is the corruption and bad leadership that has contributed to the under development of the Niger Delta region and the country at large, ”

“And president Muhammadu Buhari led APC federal government has shown much commitment to address the under developmental challenges facing the Niger Delta region for decays wish is been attributed by the corrupt previous bad administration of PDP wasted sixteen years of governance.”

“RNDA note with regret that the six years administration of former President Good luck “Badluck” Jonathan was characterised by massive corruption, looting, favouritism and gross non supervision of his appointees with no completed project in the long neglected region  that had set the people and region back to the stone age of under development. ”

“RNDA accepted the Federal Government’s ceasefire agreement in 2016 for dialogue that had led to the remarkable sustained the peace process for the development of the region in the wake of renewed destruction and bombing of oil installation and facilities that crippled the nation’s crude oil output which eventually led to recession. ”

“Most worrisome and painful is the fact that Former President Jonathan’s administration goofed on the development of the region as he was unable to complete the road to his Otuoke community while the most corrupt disciples he had in his government were sons and daughters of the Niger Delta such as Diezani, Orubebe and their cohorts in PANDEF led by High Chief EK Clark.”

“RNDA is pleased with President Buhari’s willingness and commitment to the development of the Niger Delta since he came on board in 2015 inspite of the economic recession that greeted the emergence of his administration as the crude oil output hit an all time low of #35 per barrel.”

“President Buhari fight against corruption which was the signpost of the previous PDP administrations had clearly defined his stand on the development of the region and commended him for the smooth take off of academic activities at the Nigerian Maritime University, Okerenkoko, and the Minister of Transportation,Rotimi Amaechi for the approval for the dredging if the Escravos river to enable cargo vessels access Warri which will in turn boost economic activities ”

The Federal Government should look into the implementation of the 3 percent gas fund into the NDDC,construction of Bonny inland roads, completion of the East West road, approval for the deep Sea Port project at Akwa Ibom State,Gas Flare penalty fund, pipeline surveillance jobs, proper funding of the NDDC and release of 10 licences for Modular refineries as well as the relocation of the headquarters of multinational oil companies to the Niger Delta”

“RNDA wish to acknowledge the superlative efforts of some major stakeholders in the peace and development process in the Niger Delta who have contributed to the peace being enjoyed that stopped the destruction of oil pipelines and other facilities in the creeks  that eventually brought Nigeria out of recession with crude oil output rising from 900 barrels to 1.8million barrels per day.”

“The Paramount Ruler of Seimbiri Kingdom and National leader of the Pan Niger Delta People’s Congress, HRM Pere Charles Ayemi Botu(Former National Chairman of TROMPCON), the Ibenanaowei of Ogulagha Kingdom, HRM Elder Captain Joseph Timiyan, Alabo Graham Douglas, former Minister of Aviation, High Chief Francis Inegbiniki, Hon Jude Tabai, son of retired Supreme Court Justice, Elder T. k Ogoriba, HOSTCOM National Chairman,Dr Mike Emuh among others are men of integrity who have staked their lives for the peace of the region”.

“The President should open dialogue with these persons and the Pan Niger Delta Peoples Congress under the leadership of HRM Pere Charles Ayemi Botu on the way forward for the region.”

“RNDA was emphatic that the President Buhari and the office of the Presidential Amnesty Programme should be watchful of some self acclaimed leaders of the Niger Delta such as Mike Loyibo who parades themselves in Abuja on behalf of the region to curry favour whereas they are not known to have pushed for any form of development for the region”.

“While we wish to work with the new Coordinator of the Presidential Amnesty Programme, Professor Charles Dokubo, he should be mindful of Members of PANDEF who misled the immediate past Coordinator Retired General Paul Boroh and abandoned him when the tide was against him despite spending millions of Naira on the disbanded group which is majorly  made up of failed and corrupt PDP politicians”

2019: Hold APC Responsible Should Harm Befall Atiku, Others, PDP Insists

[dropcap]T[/dropcap]he Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) says the All Progressives Congress
(APC) should be held responsible should any harm befall former Vice
President Abubakar Atiku or any of the PDP Presidential aspirants ahead
of the 2019 general elections.

PDP’s position is predicated on its comprehensive consideration of all
issues relating to the threats to the life of the former Vice President,
as well as similar threats and harassments of other presidential
aspirants in our fold, just as our party places all these threats at the
doorstep of the President Muhammadu Buhari-led APC.

The PDP do not take these threats as a ruse and we demand an open
inquest into all the issues raised by Alhaji Atiku Abubakar in his
petition to President Buhari.

It is public knowledge that the APC has been on frenetic mode over the
caliber and popularity of Presidential aspirants arraying in our party
platform.

The APC knows that President Buhari is no match for any of our aspirants
hence the resort to violence, harassment and death threats, with a view
to frighten and put our presidential aspirants out of circulation ahead
of the 2019 elections.

Nigerians are already aware of how the APC-led Government has been using
security and anti-corruption agencies, particularly the Police,
Department of State Services (DSS) and the Economic and Financial Crimes
Commission (EFCC) to harass and hound presidential hopefuls and
perceived political opponents of the President, as well as the members
of our party on various trumped-up allegations and charges.

The dysfunctional APC has become distraught by the resurge of Nigerians
to our platform since the commencement of electioneering activities,
while the APC national secretariat and its state offices have become
deserted like graveyards.

Rather than  accepting the reality of their failures ahead of the 2019
elections, the APC has scaled up its proclivities for violence against
the opposition.

Only last week, the APC unleashed their thugs to attack our national
secretariat with charms and dangerous weapons and attempted to disrupt
our activities. This is in addition to series of other attacks on our
members in various parts of the country by APC sponsored thugs.

The PDP wants the APC to note that, in all, it is fighting a lost
battle. The PDP family will never be cowed or intimidated by the evil
machinations of the APC as we stand shoulder to shoulder with majority
of Nigerians, across the board, in this national emergency of ending the
misrule of the Buhari-led administration, which has caused so much harm
to our dear nation.

Signed:

Kola Ologbondiyan
National Publicity Secretary
