Who is Lying Over The Import Of 33 Containers Load Of Rice At Tin Can Island Port?

[dropcap]F[/dropcap]or now Importers who think they can bring prohibited cargoes  into the country, particular foreign par boiled rice   in Containers through the seaports    because of  the tight security at the land borders  with the neighbouring countries of the Republic of Benin, Niger, Tchad and the Central African country of Cameroon   may have to do a rethink.

A security Operative who spoke to the Grassroots Publishers online at Tin can Island port disclosed that the importer  may succeed in shipping the Consignment  through any of the country’s seaports   but may   not be able to take delivery of it as Hameed Ali , a retired Army Colonel and Comptroller General, Nigerian Customs Service, appears to have shifted his attention to the ports as the land borders have become a no go area. From the borders Communities in the  south west, south-south, North west and Central geographical regions, the story is the same: tight security. It is not surprising why the  importers , particular, foreign rice importers  turned smugglers have found the seaports as the last option to carry out their nefarious activities with the use of Containers.

The recent seizure of 11 Containers load of foreign par boiled rice at Port Harcourt Area II in Rivers state speaks volume. The value of the II Containers load of rice was put at about N102.4 million. Note that prior to the Port Harcourt Area  II Containers load of rice seizure, there was a case  of 33 Containers load of rice  allegedly seized at Tin-Can Island port, on Tuesday , October 29,2019.

Abdullahi Musa, the Area Comptroller, of the Customs Command,  and  a World Customs Organisation, WCO, trained  Valuation and Classification officer, who was said to have given a free hand to his key  Operation officers: Dera Nnadi, a Deputy Comptroller and Head of the Command  Enforcement Unit, Murktar Ibrahim, an Assistant Comptroller and Head of the Compliance Unit, described in Customs Circles, as a revenue mobiliser, and the  Deputy Comptroller in-charge f the Command  Alert Unit, to do their  work.

The trio  were said to have been working closely together , thus making it  difficult for fraudulent importers to ship any  prohibited Consignment that contravenes the government fiscal policy through the port or take delivery of it.  The seizure of the dread Pharmaceutical product, tramadol is a clear indication of Musa’s intolerance to smuggling activities at the port using the Officers to the work. Also, the recent case involving  Masters Energy Commodities Trading  limited, owned by  Uche Ogah, the minister of Solid Minerals and Steel Development, over the alleged  importation of 33 Containers  load of rice from the Asian country of Thailand  bear eloquent testimony to the Command aggressive drive to checkmate fraudulent activities at the port.

The  alert was said to have  triggered off  putting  Nnadi, the DC.Enforcement and his men  on the red alert.  The officers at the  Command exit gates  were also said to have been  put on the alert to ensure that the Containers load of  foreign  rice did not exit the port.

Given an insider information, Joseph Attah, a Deputy Comptroller and NCS Spokesperson,  disclosed that the discovery  of the Containers load of rice  which were  stacked at the Tin can Island  port  came as a result  of the painstaking ‘’profiling  of un-utilised  Bill of Lading  and unclosed  manifests’’.

Attah noted that when the cargoes were subjected to physical examination, by all the relevant agencies personnel at the port, it was found to contain the Asian country of Thailand expired  par boiled rice. He revealed that some of the ‘’50’’ bags of rice carry Nigerian address coming from outside the country. Some of the Nigeria  address that were said to have been used by the importer include: No. 31 A Remi Kayode  Street, GRA, Ikeja, Lagos,  and Yunee International Trading Company  limited, 103 Ebitu Ukiwe Street, , Jabi, Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory.

Senate screens Odubu, Okumagba, 12 others for NDDC Board

[dropcap]T[/dropcap]he Senate Committee on Niger Delta Affairs on Thursday, October 31, 2019, screened the nominees, whose names were forwarded to the National Assembly on Tuesday by President Muhammadu Buhari as members of the new Governing Board of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC).

Expectedly, the first person to be screened was the nominee for the position of Chairman of the Commission, Dr. Pius Odubu, a former Deputy Governor of Edo State to Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, now national Chairman of the All Progressives Congress. APC.

Dr. Odubu, who was also a member of the House of Representatives from 1999 to 2007 was asked to “take a bow and go” in adoption of the parliamentary tradition of the Senate to extend such privileges to former members of the National Assembly and parliamentarians nominated for any Federal appointment.

Next was Chief Bernard Okumagba, the nominee for the position of Managing Director, NDDC and he was also asked to “take a bow and go” after both the Chairman of the Committee, Senator Peter Nwaoboshi (Delta North) and Senator James Manager, (Delta South), spoke glowing about his excellent credentials, especially recalling his sterling track record as a Commissioner in Delta State and his unquestionable suitability for the job.

img-20191031-wa0057873084293.jpg

The Senator representing Delta Central, where Chief Okumagba also hails from, is Obaisi Ovie Omo-Agege. He is of course the Deputy Senate President and it is widely believed that he is very pleased with the nomination of the former Delta state Commissioner for Finance and Economic planning.

Others who were also successfully screened included the nominee for the position of Executive Director Finance and Administration, Maxwell Okoh from Bayelsa State, as well as the ststes representatives; Prophet Jones Erue (Delta State); Chief Victor Ekhator (Edo) and Nwogu Nwogu (Abia).

The committee also screened Theodore Allison, representing Bayelsa State, Victor Antai (Akwa Ibom); Maurice Effiwatt (Cross River); Olugbenga Elema (Ondo); Hon. Uchegbu Chidiebere Kyrian (Imo); Northeast representative, Ardo Zubairu from Adamawa state and Ambassador Abdullahi Bage from Nasarawa State to represent the North Central geopolitical zone.

A mild drama reportedly occurred during the screening of Engr. Otobong Ndem (Akwa Ibom), the nominee for the post of Executive Director Projects, when some members of the Senate Committee, who observed discrepancies in the documentation of academic qualifications listed in the nominees CV, opted to grill him and demand for clarifications.

The fact that the nominee was grilled thoroughly, despite his status as a former member of the Akwa Ibom State Assembly, instead of accorded the customary ‘bow and go’ privilege reserved for former parliamentarians, was also said to have led to heated exchanges between some members of Senate Committee.

Calm was however restored by the Chairman of the committee, Senator Peter Nwaoboshi, whose intervention clarified the direction of the committee’s mandate and the nominee Engr. Ndem was eventually asked to bow and go, after he had promised to avail the committee with the omitted information in his CV and had been admonished not to disappoint Nigerians on confirmation as a member of the NDDC Board.

The Rivers state representative nominee, Dr. Joi Yimibe Nunieh, as well as the Northwest representative, Aisha Murtala Muhammed, from Kano State, were understandably not available for screening.

The Committee then reportedly mandated its Chairman to screen the two nominees on Monday.

Atiku’s Defeat Ignites Agitation Over 2023 Presidential Ticket

[dropcap]B[/dropcap]arely two days after the Supreme Court struck out the appeal filed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, challenging the emergence of President Muhammadu Buhari as winner of the February 23, 2019 election, agitation for the 2023 presidential ticket has commenced.

Credible sources told our correspondent yesterday in Abuja that some power brokers in the party were already planning how to field another candidate in 2023.
It was gathered that high ranking members of the PDP, including some serving governors were plotting to field a northern candidate in 2023, while some party bigwigs from the South felt cheated by such arrangement and are challenging the move.
A Board of Trustees (BoT) member from the South who spoke with our correspondent on condition of anonymity said: “It is true that some power brokers in the PDP were not comfortable with the emergence of Atiku but we supported him as our candidate.”
“So now that our case has been thrown out, there are pockets of agitations regarding which zone should produce the presidential candidate in 2023.

“But I think the party also needs to handle this matter with caution because, already, many of our members are likely to jump ship to the APC. I’m also considering that option so I don’t want to comment on the matter anymore,” he said.
But PDP National Publicity Secretary Kola Ologbondiyan told our correspondent yesterday in a telephone chat that the party has not taken a decision on its 2023 presidential ticket.

“There is no agitation within the PDP over the 2023 presidential ticket. It’s even too early to talk about 2023, but I can assure you that the future of the PDP is very bright.

“We have not even seen the reasons they (Supreme Court) advanced for their judgement. So we have not reached discussion on that yet,” he said.

Illegal Buildings: Court Denies Tony Kabaka Adun Extension of Restraining Order

Tony Kabaka Adun

[dropcap]A[/dropcap] Benin High Court has refused to grant the prayer of one Tony Kabaka Adun seeking an extension of the initial 14-day restraining order, which temporarily stopped the Edo State Government from removing his illegal building earlier marked for demolition.

The court presided over by Justice D. I. Okungbowa yesterday declined the request by Mr. Adun’s lawyer, U.L Osa-Uwagie, during a first-day sitting on the case.

The judge refused the prayer of the claimant on the basis of the counter argument of the Edo State Solicitor General, Oluwole Iyamu (SAN), who insisted that the order cannot be extended beyond the fourteen days lifespan, adding, “it is tidier for both parties to return to court on the 14th day to argue the motion for interlocutory injunction.”

The court, however, adjourned the case to 5th November, 2019 to hear further arguments on the motion for interlocutory injunction.

The State Government had on 9th October, through the Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development, issued a seven-day notice to Tony Adun to remove his T. Latifah Hotel and Suites, located at the Ugbor axis of the State capital.

But Mr. Adun had approached the High Court seeking an order of interim injunction restraining the Commissioner, the Governor, Attorney General and Edo Government from demolishing, removing, pulling down or altering the building. The application was granted and the court fixed 30th October, 2019 as a return date.

In his interlocutory application, Osa-Uwagie argued that the State Government did not declare the area, Ugbor, as a planning area and did not gazette it according to the Town and Country Planning Law of Bendel State 1979, CAP 165, section 6. He also claimed that the state governor was witch-hunting his client as a result of their political differences.

The State Government, through the Solicitor General, however, argued that “the deed of transfer attached to the motion by Mr. Tony Kabaka Adun and his lawyer was not registered with the state government and that he doesn’t have an approved building plan for the hotel building.  The entire Edo State is a Planning Area as declared and gazetted by the former governor Comr. Adams Oshiomhole, with Gazette No 22, published 27th May, 2010. Hence, the entire Benin City is a planning area, which affirms that the hotel is an illegal structure”.

The defendant who said it would be in the best interest of justice for the motion for injunction to be dismissed, said Governor Obaseki does not have any sort of political differences with the claimant as alleged.

Recall that the state government recently commenced removal of illegal structures erected on government property, including public schools and waterways as well as roof extensions and structures erected on the right of way of roads/streets, moats, river banks, TCN high tension lines, among others in Benin City and other major settlements in the state.

Commissioner of Physical Planning and Urban Development, Dr. Erimona Oye Edorodion explained that the exercise became necessary to address the challenge of poor living and working environment and incessant cases of flooding in urban centres, adding, “The exercise will involve development control activities to ensure that illegal structures which are poorly constructed and wrongly sited are removed.

“It will also ensure that developments engaged in the unlawful discharge of sewage, and industrial wastes into our environment are sanctioned. This is in accordance with the provisions of the State’s Extant Town Planning and Environmental Laws and Regulations and to ensure safe living and working environment.

Reaches political dead-end in quest for Nigeria’s presidency …Supreme Court dismisses appeal

[dropcap]F[/dropcap]ormer Vice President, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party reached a political dead-end on Wednesday as the Supreme Court dismissed his appeal against President Muhammadu Buhari’s election, for lacking merit. The court in a unanimous judgment affirmed that President Muhammadu Buhari was validly elected as Nigerian President in the 23 February presidential election.

A seven man panel of the court, headed by Justice Tanko Ibrahim Mohammed, the Chief Justice of Nigeria, also dismissed the appeal filed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, challenging the victory of Buhari at the presidential election.

The panel said there is no merit in the appeal. And Chief Justice Tanko Muhammad said the reasons for their judgment will be given later.

Other members of the panel are Bode Rhodes-Vivour, Olukayode Ariwoola, John Okoro, Aminu Sanusi, Ejembi Eko and Uwani Abba-ji.

At the opening of proceedings, the apex court stood down Atiku’s appeal for 15 minutes to enable parties agree on whether or not to consolidate all the appeals.

The Court however, resumed sitting after all the counsels agreed to a consolidation of all the appeals.

Atiku had gone to the apex court to challenge the September 11 judgment of the Justice Mohammed Garba-led Presidential Election Petitions Tribunal which affirmed President Buhari’s victory at the polls.

Igbo leaders gear up for major retreat in Ebonyi

[dropcap]N[/dropcap]zuko Ummuna, a core Igbo Think Tank of professionals at home and in diaspora, in collaboration with the South East Governors Forum has advanced preparations to power a two-day Igbo leaders retreat in Abakaliki, the Ebonyi State capital, tagged: “Igboezue Leadership Retreat.”
The retreat, billed to hold on November 22 and 23, 2019 at the ultra modern Ecumenical Centre, is expected to provide an avenue for South East Governors, legislators and other Igbo leaders to meet and rub minds on matters of importance to the zone.
According to a release by the Retreat Planning Sub-Committee on Media and
Publicity, signed by Chief Collins Ugwu and made available to journalists in Abakaliki, it is expected that the Chairman of the South East Governors Forum, Engr. David Umahi, as the host Governor, would roll out the new city’s hospitality to welcome all his brother Governors to the epoch retreat.
Ugwu noted that expectations were high as all concerned have individually been engaged and have also endorsed the retreat as timely, one that should be supported to produce enduring outcomes.
Part of the release reads: “To this end, the Chairman of the main Organizing Committee of the Retreat, a President General Emeritus of Ohaneze Ndigbo, Chief Gary Enwo Igariwey, revealed that aside all the Governors and all federal legislators of Alaigbo expected, other critical stakeholders of the entire Igbo collectives are upbeat about the prospects of this gathering, because they are being reached methodically and comprehensively.”
The release further quoted Igariwey to have also promised to address a world press conference on November 4 at the planning secretariat in Abakiliki, where, as he put it, “the meat of the meet will be wholesomely unveiled.”
Meanwhile, the Association of South East Town Uníons, a major Ndigbo grassroots umbrella and advocate of South East development through economic integration, has queued behind the noble idea, calling for all hands to be on deck to give it the success it deserves.
In their emphatic goodwill message to Nzuko Umunna, the  group stated that the synergy being pioneered by the retreat organisers is in tandem with their declared philosophy to accelerate the development of South East region with a purpose driven think home investment initiative.

Elumelu Employs 125 Personal Assistants In Aniocha/Oshimili Federal Constituency

[dropcap]R[/dropcap]t. Hon Ndudi Elumelu ,the Minority leader of the Federal House of Representatives and member representing Aniocha/Oshimili Federal Constituency has issued appointment letters to a total of 125 women and youths, as Personal Assistants and political aides to the lawmaker in their various, units and wards across the constituency.

The official presentation of appointment letters to the selected women and youths, which took place at Onicha-Uku, the country home of Rt. Hon. Ndudi Elumelu, on Friday October 25, 2019, was in fulfillment of his campaign pledge to ensure the even and equitable distribution of democracy dividends across the length and breadth of Aniocha/Federal constituency and also justify the mandate freely given to him by his constituents, as their Representative in the national assembly.

Addressing the newly engaged appointees during the presentation of letters ceremony, which was attended by top party leaders and members of the PDP in the Federal constituency, Hon. Elumelu charged the political aides to carry out specific roles on his behalf, which included interfacing with communities and identifying their most pressing needs for onward transmission to the leadership of the Federal House of Representatives.

According to him: “Your duty will be to be my voice in your community. You don’t need to call me, you are to collate whatever is happening and needed in your community and forward to our office in Abuja. We now decide what to do in such matters.

“On infrastructural development, if the roads are bad, markets are bad and you fail to shout out, you will be held responsible. We want government to be close to the people.

“People, who are less privileged and not able to pay their school fees, tell us about them and everything happening in your area. I don’t want people to be calling every time and sending text messages, you should be the ones receiving the messages and sending such to us.

“On employment, let them come through you, collect their CVs and send them to us. Those that need recommendation letters, let them come through you. They don’t need to come to me but you. Airforce, Navy, police, customs, any job they need, we will give them based on their qualifications.

“The day anybody sends me text message from your community, complaining of any need, or that their son or daughter needs job or that we have such problem in my area, when you are there, your appointment is immediately terminated.

“You should be committed to your work. Disturb us with pressure of requests. Let’s have a change of mindset in the manner we approach issues. This is the first time money meant for constituency people are given to them. Nothing in the community must escape your attention. If anything is coming to your constituency, you must ensure your people get their own portion,” he charged them, while saying that his office will provide them with identity cards.

Hon. Elumelu further explained that the appointment is for a period of two years which is subject to renewal, after due assessment of the performance of the appointee, even as he assured that there is a lot coming for the constituency; hence they must be ready to carry out the huge task assigned to them.

He said: “If motorcycles are to be given out and your people do not have, you will answer for it. A lot is coming. If people are in prison and do not have money to bail themselves, you should go to the prison and find out the issues and report to us. We don’t want any complain from any community, we want every community to be carried along in all we are doing.”

Fielding questions with newsmen shortly after the presentation of appointment letters, Hon. Elumelu shed more light on the rationale behind the appointment of the 125 political aides to be his eyes and mouthpiece in the over 58 communities in the federal constituency.

“My people voted me into office and it is expected that their votes in getting me there is their investment. Their return on investment is for me to make sure they have good dividends of democracy.

“In trying to get that I must be sure that I’m doing it in consonance with their own belief and their desire. And there is no better way to achieve that than engaging them. And given that we have over 58 communities in the four local governments, it now became very necessary that I must appoint some political aides to do that on my behalf.

“Their job involves going to the people and finding out what they want and that will form part of the input which the House of Reps is geared towards achieving in the yearly preparation of the budget.

“We held a public hearing on the budget two days ago and part of what we said was that we now want Nigerians to be part of our budget preparation processes. I cannot just on my own go to the House of Reps, sit down and put things for my people without hearing from them.

“These are my aides, and between now and November that we will be passing the budget, their duty will be to get back to me on what my people desire most and that will begin the way towards giving them those returns on investment that is called dividends of democracy

“And the ingredients are critical infrastructures, good roads, electricity, potable boreholes that will ensure access to quality water and areas where you can assist people who cannot afford to train their kids, then you provide for them. And that will be very useful and meaningful to them.”

Elumelu said the appointees which comprise 62 youths and 63 women will get their salaries on 27th of every month, adding that in December, they will be paid double, first week and 27 of December every year.

Responding, some of the appointees expressed appreciation to Rt. Hon. Ndudi Elumelu for finding them fit for the appointment. Stephen Abah from ward 10 Ezi in Aniocha North expressed joy for the appointment, saying that this was the first time he had been privileged to get an appointment and benefit from an elected member in any position since he joined the party many years ago.

Mrs. Ndidi Azuh, ward 5 Aniocha North Issele Mkpitime and Issele Azagba, said she is lucky to be one of those appointed, pledging her readiness to work and ensure everybody in her ward benefit from the democracy dividends that will be coming to the constituency.

Alex Nwokolie from ward 9, Oshimili North, Okpanam and Ugbolu, said in carrying out his assignment, nobody will be discriminated against, assuring that he will work to ensure his ward members benefit from whatever is due to them.

Christy Ngugu from ward 9, Oshimili South in Asaba, comprising Ozoigwe primary school area through to Anwai, said she was happy for the appointment, adding that everybody in her area, as far as they reside in the ward area will benefit from the leadership programmes of Elumelu.

Mrs. Sandra Obiarenzi from ward 2, Aniocha South, Ogwashi Uku said the gesture was a good one from the Rt. Hon. Ndudi Elumelu and while describing him as a man of his words who will always fulfill all the promises he made to his people, assured of surpassing the task assigned to them saying: “I will do much more than the task given to us. He is for everybody and everybody will be accommodated in his programmes.”

It could be recalled that the Minority leader of the House of Representatives and member representing Aniocha/Oshimili Federal constituency, Rt. Hon. Ndudi Elumelu, had last month, confirmed that he would engage 84 competent persons as youth in the Federal constituency as personal assistants and political aides in youth and women affairs. This number has now been increased to 125, in recognition of the need to effectively cover the over 58 communities in the constituency and also in line with his campaign promises to empower the critical segments of the society; the Youths and the women whom he said would continue to be the focus of his agenda, in consonance with the Stronger Delta agenda of the Governor Ifeanyi Okowa administration in Delta state.

This appointment of 125 political aides by Hon. Ndudi Elumelu, is also coming in the wake of a hugely successful five-day entrepreneurship training programme for budding entrepreneurs from Aniocha/Oshimili Federal Constituency of Delta State, in September, sponsored by the Minority Leader of the House of Representative, with 200 participants drawn from the four local government areas within the Federal Constituency.

The training programme facilitated by Hon. Elumelu was organized and handled by Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria (SMEDAN), a reputable entrepreneurship development training organization and ended on Friday 20th September, 2019 with the House of Reps Minority leader, presenting the certificates of participation to the participants, which also guaranteed each of them a low interest loan up to the tune of N10 million by the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, with no collaterals.

Roll Back To 1993 Fela’s Ikoyi Prison Interview With Detained Editors

[dropcap]I[/dropcap]n March 1993, four editors of TheNEWS magazine were sent to Ikoyi Prison by Justice Olugbani of the Lagos High Court, where they spent one week over an alleged ‘criminal libel case’. A dividend of the detention was being incarcerated in the same prison space with Fela, who was then facing a murder charge.

The editors decided to interview Fela on his life, Nigeria and the spirit world. The interview, the most comprehensive that Fela ever gave, was published in the 5 April 1993 edition of TheNEWS.

How is life like behind bars?

This place na different world. I beg, I beg, I beg, in this place people don’t talk, they just look. I mind my business here. I meditate, I try to rediscover myself.

Meditation apart,  what other things do you do in prison?

Of course, I dey think now. But I prefer to keep it to myself, not to tell you people. If I discuss my meditation with you, that means I am not meditating. You see I don’t think about outside. For me, once I enter here I don’t think about outside again, outside prison, otherwise you’ll go crazy simple.

Don’t you miss freedom?

Yes, now. I have always been free. I am not free here. Finish. But I still like it here. You don’t know anything. This is the best prison in Nigeria. Go and try Maiduguri or Benin prison.

Are you saying there is no way you can be free while in prison?

Teach me now. You are in prison yourself, go and open the gate and go out if you can.   Look what I am getting at is that it is only my mind that is free. My meditation here is spiritual.

Do you miss your favourite pastime – watching television?

Yes of course. I watch television a lot for many  reasons. I watch the control of human beings on television. For example, you don’t know that words have roots in spirituality.

How can that be?

If the measurement of knowledge is the ceiling up there, anything that falls below it, is the amount of ignorance somebody has. So, your question how can that be is a question from the mind of an educated man. The Yoruba meaning of education, incidentally, is someone whose mind has been trained and locked with a key. You are that kind of person. Knowledge is how your mind expand reach.

English words even have a Yoruba essence; are you not saying all these because you are a Yoruba man?

NO I know what I am saying. You should not have said “ how can that be.” You should have said “can you explain?” because that kind of question can only come from a foolish  man who gets moustache like you. That is what we call M.P. Moustache Problem. Hitler who is one of the most wicked men according to history also has moustache like you people. What you people don’t know is that Yoruba  is the secret of the spirit, that is why the Pot was given to Oduduwa to put at Ife.   When you hear America, it means ye shall find wickedness in Yoruba and that is why there is so much wickedness in America. When you hear Russia, the real meaning in Yoruba is rush-into-suffering. Really there is nothing called Europe, it should be Europa, it means Yoruba. It is all elliptical variants of Yoruba language they are speaking there. When you  hear London, for instance, that was the beginning of the power in Europe.  The British was the first to colonize the world. They got the power from Ife. That was where London got the name from L-o-n-d-o-ni from Ooni, which again  means crocodile.

Even the name, Windsor Castle palace in London which got burnt last November, is not English, it is Yoruba, from the Yoruba word, Iwin-so meaning the witches talking. Look at the word soldier. It means Isoluja in Yoruba. Again look at the word Police, it means po.  They take that word from the dirtiest place, po-potty. Latin was the most treacherous of the European languages that was why they canceled it quickly.

Is Democracy a possible experience in Nigeria?

Yes. You see Democracy like hospital are very latest developments in the white man’s country. They still have a mixture of Yoruba and English together, like hospital for example. They say h-o-o (spit) and spittle, that lowest form of treatment of human beings. People say they go there for treatment but don’t go there. Many people in this country are possessed. Some of them are like those birds lekeleke, (egret) they fly, they are possessed. That is why each time everybody says Babangida should go. I have always maintained that  Babangida cannot go.  I said so, because he is possessed like the rest of us. He has to stay. The forces in him will not let him go. That is the point.

Can’t he decide to hand over?

No. Look he must play his film finish. Na contract. He must finish his part.

Can’t you predict when IBB will finish playing his part?

Me? I no fit  predict. When he finishes he would pack his things and leave. He is the last of this age. We are entering a new age, the age of Aquarius, the age of Water. Our leaders are the last layers of the people that are treacherous to the Africans. Otedola is the mark of that time to remind people of that age. The name means treachery becomes greatness.

But what happens if Chief Abiola becomes the next President?

Wait now make him take over. He don jump there now his eyes go see a lot.

What does this aquarian age signify?

It is the age of good  over evil. People will start to know themselves. All the stooges that were supporting the white man to sell Africans during the slave trade are back now as human beings. Those are the ones ruling all states in  Africa. That is why Babangida could easily sell Nigeria and call it SAP. That is what Rawlings did to Ghana, Mobutu did in Congo, they all sell Africa and call it SAP.  They sell the people, sell the land, sell the whole country. They’ve sold us. SAP means Selling African People. It is in my song. That is SAP. They promised Babangida that if he can go by January they would not let dollar pass 20, but as he has stayed, they told him they cannot wait, the Naira is N35 to one dollar now. By next month it is going to be N40, by the time Babangida goes it is gong to be N50.00. That is what Abiola wants to be President of. He go see wen .  That means na him then go stone then, no be “Babangida.” Because Nigerians cannot survive as things are going. That means we will have to be buying bread at N100 by August. That is why Babangida cannot go. If he goes he will get more trouble more problems. He don tire, but he cannot go. There is nowhere for him to go. All these things are happening na him sign the money go. It is time for all these troubles to show.

You seem to have become deeply spiritual of late. Why is this so?

I have since discovered that the secret of this world is with the Rosicrucians, the Free Masons, House of Amorc, Ogboni and all the societies of this world which all the top people of this country belong to.

How come you know all these?

I was given the gift to know from up. I got my spirit on 25 June 1981.

How did it happen?

That one na long story. It is because the Rosicrucians hold the key to the understanding of life that you cannot get their books to buy outside. You have to be a member. And to be a member, my brother, it is difficult.

But the late Awolowo was a member.

Yes. Awo was sent by ISIS to this world, the God of ISIS. It is from ISIS Genesis came, Genesis is not the beginning  my brother, it is Yoruba word. ISIS is white man’s transition of Isi. Isi is the name of the African woman that is the goddess of the whole world. Na him dey control this world, world called Isi…But the Oyinbos choose to call her Isis. Gene is an African world. Gene in Mid-West is god, Ogene and Gini in Yoruba is cat, powerful, Ogini. Ogini and Ogene means god the cat with nine lives. So Isis power has cat. So the gini of Isis is Genesis which people call the beginning.

But all these are not in the Bible?

My brother you can read the Bible but the best books to read are the Rosicrucian books. You can’t get those books to buy. That means there are two separate institutions in this world. If you go to England there are Rosicrucian schools where special children go and those books are there for those children to read. These same children go to Cambridge and Oxford and they rule England. That is how England is. The secret is not Bible. How can it be with Bible, when Adam and Eve born two children, Cain and Abel and they are men. How did they procreate, my brother? And later Cain killed Abel, wetin come happenNa wa o. I beg, I beg. You see when I talk about the spirit world like this I know wetin I dey talk. I get reason why my life be like this, why I suffer. They born me through the person wey I suppose come through Reverend so I go know everything well well to question them from the beginning to the end of the Bible. My brother it is all tricks. Wayo.

Did you discover these things when you were in school?

A:  No, na through Astral travel in 1981. It has since made me understand the world better. For example what people call mother or Iya in Yoruba  is nothing other than punishment (iya). The Yorubas know what they are talking about men. The Yorubas get sense pass anybody. Why is it that mothers force their kids to do what is against the spirit of those kids. They force them to eat, especially those educated women. I want my child to be like me, they say, when you are growing you start  to go to school, they then call you master which is nothing but mass of star. They begin to disturb.  Give you figures, mathematics. Then they go on to call you mister which means you have missed your star.  So everything we are doing in this world now is the negative or opposite of what is usually happening.

So how can we redeem ourselves?

It is simple, everybody go start to see his spirit. Whether you like it or not. You come see the master himself who is supposed to rule. You go see yourself how you are supposed to be.

So what do you make of the on-going transition programme?

Transition means death. Don’t you know. This is why Dodan Barracks is in the middle of cemetery to remind them that the spirit of the dead people is opposed to the transition programme. Jah is the name of the spirit. ISIS sent to give Christians and muslims their doctrines. That is why the government has moved to Abuja because Jah has to guide them. Abuja is where Jah himself lives. You see the point.

Have you never considered going on a preaching circuit?

That is what my  music is about. That is why I have the shrine. I talk about these things in the shrine on Saturday nights. Any time I go on tour in Europe I talk about it everywhere, even in Germany. The true meaning in Yoruba is Ija ma ni.  They came to earth to fight. They came to fight God, that is why Germans start the first World War, the Second World war and even Third War. Look my brother everything is spirit, but education just make everybody know book, just dey waka to salary, white man’s salary.

The white man knows why he makes book, machine and Bible to fuck you up. Does it not surprise you that the people wey invent aeroplane no go school, no go university? So wetin you dey talk? Each time the Christians say Jesus Christ came to take the sins of the world, what they mean to say is scenes. He come steal knowledge. That was why when he come thief finish he come say God oh that death wey you say make I come die you fit commot am for my head. My brother he come thief, he is a proper thief. That  was why he was hanged with two thieves. One for right, the other for left because they know themselves before Sango come vex take lightening quench him neck for am. Na Sango kill am. Bible itself talk say thunder strike and Sango is the god of thunder.

Archbishop Okogie may sue you for this?

Sue who? If he hears this he go dey shake ni because he go know say na truth I dey talk. Latin is very funny to me when I hear it because I have deciphered many things in Latin. Each time the Pope talks I get amused. I laugh because I go just hear Laduke…Lakunni. Asake. (All lovely female names).

How come you like giving different meaning to names?

I give names their true meaning. Take for example the name Oyakhilome. It means Oyakilomo, that was why he was kicked out of the place because he go jam Jennifer. The name Jennifer means Ajeni Ifa, meaning Ifa is a witch. They then brought kwajafa, a disciple of Jah to replace him. All of them na spirit.

How then do you explain your love for sex?

Sex is power, if you know how  to use it well, finish. If you are given the gift to know how to keep your body for that sex.

Yes, if you know how to, because all the time woman fuck you she take from you. When they are having children they pretend they are feeling pains. Na lie. They are feeling no pain. They are having essence. When you dey fuck woman she go dey cry hey, hey, hey, hey, take it easy now she go dey deceive you say she dey feel pain whereas she dey enjoy am.  You can even fuck the spirit of woman. For example if I dey fuck woman here I can be fucking 10 other women at the same time while fucking that one. I will just take my mind away. She can do the same thing to me. So you don’t know? So what is love now? They (women) just call Darling, Husband, Sweety for nothing. You are not even the horse  you are the band of the horse. There is so much deceit in sex. That is what Isis did to men – threw us to the ground.

But why do you hate the Bible?

Look God no dey for Bible. Everybody has the knowledge of God. One day I quarrelled with one of the people wey dey come preach for prison here. When S.K. Adebanjo, an accountant came one day, I said S.K. why you do like this, you from Ilesha, my friend you come dey preach Bible for prison. He said look Fela what other way can you teach good to people? So I said so only Bible can show you good and bad.  You know fit teach good and bad with mouth?  My brother the people wey bring Bible na them start violence, white people, mass killing. You think say black people no no how to make guns. We knew but we knew if we did it we will kill ourselves. That was why we restricted ourselves to bows and arrows. That is sweeter. The only way Nigeria can move forward is if everyone can know his spirit.

Many people are surprised that you didn’t take part in politics. Why?

You think say with all these things I know I go come they jump say I want do politics? Politics wey na flying politics.  Na Astral politics Babangida dey practice in Nigeria. It is crazy men. See, President sit  down fly go, form two parties himself, fly go, build party offices himself, choose leader himself, write manifesto himself, register the party himself, fly go and  everybody come join am. That is wuru wuru politics. All of you are flying my brother. And you people self they write about it and you say you are journalists and that you are educated. What you do is to press people down, so you are part of the system wey they press people.

Don’t you want the press to report these events?

Yes, journalists should dissociate themselves internationally from participating in falsehood. What is happening in Nigeria today cannot be politics. All those people you see wey de waste their time don craze.

Are you saying if Babangida had allowed more parties you would have participated?

I may not take part, but I will comment, I will discuss. But any journalist who comes to me for an interview now on SDP or NRC will be shocked. I will simply say I beg carry your question go.  Don’t turn me into a mad man like you. If you are mad carry your madness go, because right now we are all meditating aloud. That is what I am doing here. You are listening and as you dey go out please do your duty, print all I have said word for word. Print am o. Because nothing dey inside this interview which can annoy President Babangida .  So just print this thing as he dey there. I beg. Anytime I think of how Babangida rules this country I just laugh because he be like say many people de under his spell.

Why?

Look many of the things wey Babangida dey do today he would not have tried them years back. Because the mentality of people at that time was high, but now it’s low. Awolowo had to quickly commot the Oyinbo name, Jeremiah wey dey for his name at that time because they would have dealt with him. Even Azikiwe too. But look, they have spoilt the youths of today patapata. That Is why Babangida can still say he start party. It is very, very funny. Is it not funny that soldier man say him start political party?  Everyone knows that soldiers are meant only to take orders, but for Nigeria, na the other way round. Na soldiers  de form party and civilians like Abiola de join. Well, Abiola fit win sha, because anything can happen.  In Nigeria even John Major of Britain can stand election and win without even coming here. So I beg, I beg, Abiola can win o. No be Yar’Adua, another soldier want to win recently before everybody begin shout say he don’t do magomago. I tell you, all of us for Nigeria don craze. All those Oyinbos just de watch us and they laugh at how we dey do election. They say to themselves those people are animals. Look we don craze for Nigeria. Me I know that one.

Fela, it seems you are no longer popular as before…

I beg don’t try me o. Me I no get money, I no be government but look if I call press conference na so the place go full ‘paparapa.” Me I popular. Na only me de play my kind of music. When Babangida go France the last time they were surprised, they had to ask him: Is Fela not the President of Nigeria?  Babangida was shocked. Everybody know me for Paris. Most record companies can’t stand my smell abroad, even promoters because all of them are establishment people. But me I be revolutionary.
