Coronavirus: Tension in Warri as Soldiers Kill Unarmed Youth

Gov. Ifeanyi Okowa

[dropcap]D[/dropcap]elta State Oil city of Warri is currently boiling for a reprisal as soldiers deployed to enforce lock down by Delta State Government, reportedly killed an unarmed youth.

The soldier man who  shot the youth, simply identified as Joseph Pessu dead after he failed to stop when he was flagged down by soldiers who mounted barricade at Ugbuwangue, Warri South Council Area.

The youth was driving a Toyota Camry car during the lock down hours when he ran into the blockage by the soldiers.

Eyewitness said that instead of stopping and identifying himself for a possible pass, the youth zoomed passed the soldiers in speed and detoured toward the Ogunu flyover axis.

Soldiers who mounted the barricade went into their van and gave the youth a hot chase and like a scene of blockbuster movies were firing shots at the fleecing defaulter.

The youth who managed to escaped the attempted arrest despite the fact that one of his vehicle tyre was shot and got flattened, was shot around Ogunu flyover after he jumped from the unmarked car.

The deceased, who escaped from the soldiers’ arrest after the hot chase into a nearby bush, was reportedly shot by a trigger-happy army officer on the back and died instantly. A military source, however said that the soldiers suspected the deceased was an armed robber going by the way he drove the car and refused to stop despite the chase.

The source disclosed that soldiers fired several warning shots to deter the deceased all through the Ekpan axis but he refused to stop, thus fueling the suspicious.

“When the deceased refused to stop, the soldier went after him and shot at one of the rear tyre.

“The young man continue to drive the car with a burst tyre until he got to Ogunu. He blocked the road with his car, jumped out and started running.

“It was then the soldier assumed him to be a suspect and shot at him.

“Immediately, the incident happened, the soldier drove directly to the Area Command of the Nigeria Police to report himself.

“As we speak, the man is devastated, we cannot get information from him, this narrative was given to us by one of the police officer at the checkpoint,” the source concluded.

In a swift reaction, Harrison Jalla, President of Warri Boys Association, Lagos branch, in a statement  said, “Mr. Joseph Pessu according to reports was said to be driving through the NPA express way in Warri to pick his sick father to the hospital when men of the Nigerian Army were said to have flagged him to stop before his tyres were shot at by the security agents.

“Mr Joseph Pessu was however able to pull over at Ada Val Arenyenka Street, Ugbuwangue on the same express way, where he was allegedly shot at close range and subsequently died on the spot”, the statement reads.

Meanwhile, irked by the development, some youths from Ugbuwangue mobilized for a show down with security operatives but the situation has been brought under control by the Warri Police Area Commander who drafted men to the scene.

The trigger-happy army personnel has been detained.

When contacted, the State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Onome Onovwakpoyeya, confirmed the incident but declined further comment, saying she was yet to be briefed with details of the incident.

Covid -19 Lockdown: Delta Govt taskforce officials assault Delta NUJ Chairman, other

Chairman, Nigerian Union of Journalist (NUJ), Delta State Council, Comrade Mike Ikeogwu

[dropcap] D[/dropcap]elta State Taskforce on Environment, today, assaulted  number one Journalist in Delta State and the  Chairman, Nigerian Union of Journalist (NUJ), Delta State Council, Comrade Mike Ikeogwu and Daily Post Correspondent, Matthew Omonigho who were monitoring the level of compliance on the “Social distance” order of the state governor. Recall that Governor Ifeanyi Okowa issued an order for a total lockdown of the state as parts of measures to check the spread of the novel Coronavirus pandemic into Delta State and to also enforce social distance within the state.

Narrating his ordeal, the NUJ Chairman said that he Omonigho had gone out to monitor the level of compliance, and at Otiotio Street in Uvwie Local Government Area, they noticed some residents engaging in sanitation when they are supposed to be indoors. The NUJ Chairman had approached the Environment Officials who allegedly forced residents of Otiotio Street out of their homes to engage in environmental sanitation against the “Stay at home” order of the governor.

But the Environment taskforce officials led by Kingsley Iweka ordered his team of over 20 men to pounce on the NUJ Chairman and Daily Post Correspondent for daring to interfere in the operation.

It was gathered that the Environment Taskforce officials also held the NUJ Chairman, Comrade Ikeogwu and his colleague hostage for about 45minutes and it took the swift intervention of the State Chairman of the Environment Taskforce, Mr Syvelster Oromoni, to calm the nerves of his overzealous officers through a telephone call.

Expressing his dissatisfaction at the level of lawlessness displayed by the Environment Taskforce officials who are a law unto themselves, Comrade Ikeogwu wondered what would become of the ordinary man in the society if Government officials could attack and assault him and his colleague even after identifying himself as the number one Journalist in the State.

Ikeogwu also decried the incident as uncalled for, unwarranted and condemnable, wondering why the task force would work in contravention to the order of Governor Ifeanyi Okowa. According to him, “Today is not environmental sanitation. Why should a task force constituted for environmental sanitation come out on a day that people were asked to stay at home to enforce environmental sanitation?

He said, “Their order was further endangering the lives of the people as it contravenes the social order of the Governor. That. Was why I intervened to stop them from what they were doing? But they claimed that the order was from their Chairman.”

“I am disappointed in the attitude of the leader of the team having after introduced myself to him who ordered his boys to attack me and my colleague. I wish to call on the State Governor to look into this matter because many people will fall victim of this before the end of the lockdown order.”

“It was the residents of the area who called us to come and see what happens. How they were being forced to come and do environmental sanitation. However, I thank God it didn’t go beyond that. I go and treat myself because I was attacked.” Ikeogwu stressed.

Some residents of the area who spoke after the altercation between the NUJ Chairman and the Taskforce condemned the acts. They said it was not an environmental day just as they wondered why they were forced to come out for sanitation.

One of the residents simply identified as Mohammed said, “We were forced out of our houses. If you say No, they will beat and arrest you. That’s why I came out like other people for the sanitation.”

Covid – 19 : Nigeria’s confirmed cases rise to 184

The total number of states which have reported at least a confirmed case of COVID-19 in Nigeria is still 12 and the FCT.

NCDC said as of 08:00 p.m. on April 2, there are 184 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Nigeria.

A total of 20 people have been discharged after recovering from the virus while two have died.

Nigeria has been grappling with containing the spread of the disease as the number of confirmed cases continues to increase. Lagos State still tops the chat with the highest cases in the country.

A breakdown of states where cases have been confirmed indicate that Lagos now has 98 cases, followed by FCT – 38, Osun -14, Oyo – 8, Akwa Ibom – 5, Ogun – 4, Edo- 4, Kaduna – 4, Bauchi – 3, Enugu – 2, and Ekiti – 2. Rivers and Benue have one case each.

As Nigeria struggles to combat the spread of the virus, the health minister, Osagie Ehanire, said Thursday that the nation is beginning to see early signs of community transmission of the virus.

Going by the global trajectory of the disease, Nigeria is expected to record more cases as health authorities have embarked on contact tracing to locate thousands of people who have come in contact with infected persons.

Mr Ehanire said “the lockdown in Lagos, Ogun and the FCT will be helpful as we continue to intensify efforts to detect and confirm cases of COVID19.

“With the expanded national case definition and addition of two new laboratories to test for COVID19 in Ibadan and Ebonyi States, the national testing capacity is now at 1,500 a day.

“I applaud all our health workers and emergency responders in this critical time,” he said.

With the increasing cases in Africa, the World Health Organisation expressed concern that the spread of the virus is threatening fragile health systems on the continent.

WHO said infections are increasingly spreading not only between African countries but within different localities in the hardest-hit countries.

Coronavirus total lockdown in Abuja, Lagos and Ogun

[dropcap]T[/dropcap]he Federal Government has frowned at the flouting of the presidential lockdown directives by Abuja, Lagos and Ogun residents. Chairman of the Presidential Task force on COVID-19 and Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Boss Mustapha, said during the press briefing on the pandemic, yesterday, that the decision to lock down the three states was in the interest of the nation.

“Let me emphasize that the decision to lockdown is to prevent community spread which may be dangerous to manage. It can only be done by Nigerians and for Nigerians.”

Director-General of Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), Dr. Chikwe Ihekweazu, said from the pronouncement of the president and the faskforce, the battle to rid the pandemic was being taken seriously from the top and urged citizens to cooperate. He said the strategy being deployed was that of containment.

“This is one of the reasons Mr. President asked us what we needed and gave us two weeks to free up the roads and enable us have the space to do this effectively.  This comes at some pain to many Nigerians in Lagos, Ogun and FCT but it is a necessary precaution and recommendation to enable the health workers particularly in Lagos and Abuja have the opportunity to reach all of these contacts, make sure they are okay and bring those with symptoms into care as quickly as possible.

“In carrying out the directives of Mr. President, we need to think what we need to do for ourselves, we need to ask ourselves, do we really need to break these regulations? We will be destroying the efforts we are making collectively.

“So please, Nigerians, this is the time to really hold ourselves accountable by carrying out these measures. It is only by doing this and bearing this pain for the next few weeks that we will have a small chance of containing this outbreak.”

Stressing the need to enforce social distancing, he said: “If we are not in contact with each other, that virus cannot circulate amongst us.”

Also, Federal Government has pledged to reach more than 11 million Nigerians with palliatives to cushion the harsh effects.

Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development,  Hajiya Sadiya Umar Farouk, said Nigeria already has a social register with details of those considered as vulnerable in in 35 states, adding that the people belonged to around 2.6 million households.

Minister of Aviation, Hadi Sirika, however, said certain flights considered essential  will continue to happen.

He listed those aircrafts qualified to fly to include those in distress in other to save lives, those on technical stop – those needing to refuel, those on Medical evacuation, essential cargo flights, certain diplomatic flights, humanitarian flights – those bringing in food items and humanitarian supplies, those carrying medical equipment and medicine as well as security flights amongst others.

He said protocols have been set out one of which is that if a flight is on ground all the crew must remain on board which means the flight have two crews. He explained that the plane will not be serviced except to refuel.

However, investigations by Daily Sun in Abuja and Lagos, revealed substantial compliance as commercial activities were grounded and many roads deserted.

Visible on major roads were stern-looking security operatives who manned strategic spots to ensure that only essential service providers were allowed to move around town.

Bala Ciroma and Hakeem Odumosu, FCT and Lagos State commissioners of police, respectively, led security operatives to monitor compliance and crack down on erring residents.

Aside from the security search, motorists and their passengers were asked to identify themselves. Impatient motorists who could not stand the huge traffic as a result of the checkpoint stubbornly drove against the traffic, but were promptly arrested by the task force.

Some motorists who converted their private vehicles to commercial purposes were arrested and their passengers asked to disembark.

Ciroma, in an interview with Our reporter in Abuja, expressed satisfaction with residents’ level of compliance on the first day and expressed hope that the situation would improve in the days ahead.

On the opening of some markets in the satellite towns, Ciroma said: “We will get to these markets and if they are not selling food items, then we will know what to do.”

Asked the number of persons arrested so far for violating the presidential order, he said a definite figure would be determined at the end of today.

On his part, director, Road Traffic Services, Aliyu Bodinga, expressed disappointment at the level of compliance by residents and said the team was doing everything possible to enforce the order.

Around Kuje, military men detained motorists for hours at some checkpoints. There were clashes between some military men and Customs personnel. Although Daily Sun could not immediately determine what led to the clash, a Customs personnel was brutalised in the end.

However, from Kubwa to Jikwoyi, Nyanya to Kuje, herdsmen moved freely with their cows, sheep and goats, devouring any green vegetation in sight.

In various parts of Abuja, commuters were stranded as motorists did not want to risk flouting the lockdown order to be on the road.

Along major roads, uniformed police complemented by traffic wardens, officers of the Federal Road Safety Corps, and the National Security and Civil Defence Corps dotted the landscape.

Roads around the Federal Secretariat were blocked with police vans; officers man the blockades, and ensured that only those on essential services were allowed free passage to their destinations.

Assistant Superintendent of Police, John Idaho, told reporters that some residents of Lokogoma begged to be allowed to go out to “buy food.”

Although the airport road, from Galadima junction to the city gate, through to the federal secretariat, was free, not manned by security agencies, their presence was felt at the Three Arms Zone from morning till late afternoon.

There were also clusters of policemen and FRSC officials at major intersections within the capital territory.

Majorly, Abuja roads were quiet, while hitherto bubbly neighbourhoods went cold.

Some filling stations were open but most were shut. For those who opened, there were no customers to sell to.

Construction sites within the city were also shut. More so, businesses around Nyanya, Karu, Jikwoyi, Kurudu, Orozo and Karshi, were totally shut.

However, pharmacies, hospitals and other essential service providers opened for business.

To enforce the order, groups of cops, assisted by the Abuja Environmental Protection Board (AEPB) and other federal and state traffic officials, were fully deployed.

When they arrived Kurudu at about 1:20pm, they chased away roadside traders and others defying the order.

For unknown reasons, they did not extend their enforcement beyond Kurudu.

It was partial compliance in the Gudu axis of Abuja, as some residents were seen moving about without any inhibition.

A security agent who spoke with Daily Sun on the condition of anonymity, said law enforcers allowed the situation because residents gave pitiful reasons to be on the road.

It was the same scenario at the Farmer’s Market, Maitama, were traders were seen carrying out their usual transactions. But they lamented lack of patronage due to the lockdown.

In Jabi, Daily Sun saw a team comprising the Department of State Services (DSS), NSCDC, Vehicle Inspection Officers (VIO),FRSC), the Abuja Environmental Protection Board (AEPB), and Air Force with various items seized from defiant residents.

In the Karu axis, there was little or no compliance with the lockdown directive of the Federal Government.

Businesses, mostly grocery stores and salons, opened as usual.  Artisans and masons were also on a building site totally engrossed in their work.

Motorcyclists leveraged on the weak enforcement to make brisk business as they took passengers to various destinations.

At the popular Abacha Road, there was a roadblock manned by policemen who quizzed motorists before allowing those with genuine reasons to pass.

Our reporter observed that those who were not within the essential services bracket had to bribe their way through.

One of the policemen who spoke to Our reporter said they were not given hand sanitizers, gloves or face masks: “Madam Journalist, as you are doing your job, let those in authority know that we have not been given sanitizers, hand gloves nor face masks. We are looking for those things ourselves. We do not want to contract coronavirus.”

In Kubwa, residents stayed indoors in compliance with the stay-at-home order.

However, despite the lockdown,  vehicles and commercial motorcycle operators were seen driving moving by midday.

To guarantee total compliance, security agents barricaded some sections of  the  Gado Nasko Road, the busiest road in Kubwa.

At the road adjacent to Queens Plaza, Phase 4, some youths were seen collecting tolls before anyone was granted access.

A grocer in Kubwa, Mrs. Sharon Jones said: “The presidential order allows food sellers and those along the food value chain to operate within this two-week lockdown. But transporters are not allowed. So, how do we restock? Some of us get supplies almost daily but now we can’t. What are we going to sell in the next two weeks? The roads are empty. Those processing these items are not going to work. Hunger will kill people before the coronavirus itself.”

John Okrika, a provision store owner, predicted a mass revolt soon: “ People are going to invade the streets in search of daily bread. There is no way they can stay at home for two weeks. Never!”

Findings by Our reporter across some fuel stations in the Lagos metropolis showed a very low level of patronage at major marketers’ fuel station and those of independent marketers.

Some of the fuel attendants lamented the low level of patronage, saying the level of sales recorded as at 4pm yesterday did not in any way justify their coming to work.

They said, should the situation continue, they may be forced to shut down operations to minimize their running cost.

However, the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) has urged the Federal Government to direct law enforcement agencies assigned to enforce restriction of movement to ensure that the movement of essential services across the country is not in any way hindered.

President of the council, High Chief Peter Ameh, gave the advice in a statement on Tuesday in Abuja.

He said the advice was necessary following complaints that basic and essential goods and services were unable to get to citizens across the federation, due to the movement restrictions directed by government.

Ameh added that the clampdown on transportation had also affected movement of personnel lawfully empowered and engaged in combating COVID-19.

“There is an urgent need to engage the services of the National Union of Road Transport Workers as well as certified airlines in the country to ensure swift response to emergencies and easy movement of personnel within the country.

“With the urgency attached to this recent development, we hereby call on the Federal Government to immediately direct and ensure that the movement of these essential services are not in any way hindered by law enforcement agencies assigned to enforce the movement restriction howsoever, across the country,” he said.

FG reduces fuel price to N123.50 per litre

[dropcap]T[/dropcap]he Petroleum Products Pricing and Regulatory Agency has reduced the pump price of petrol to N123.50 per litre from the current price of N125. This comes about a fortnight after the agency reduced the pump price to N125 from N145. The reduction is based on the reduced landing cost of petrol into Nigeria which is caused by the global decline of crude oil prices.

Grassroots Publishers online reported how crude oil sold for about $20 a barrel on Monday compared to about $50 a barrel it sold for about two months ago.

Abdulkadir Saidu, the Executive Secretary of PPPRA, who announced the new pump price, said all retail outlets should start selling at the new price from April 1.

Earlier, the state oil firm, NNPC, announced that it had enough petrol in circulation to ensure there was no scarcity of the essential product as millions of Nigerians remain at home because of the COVID-19 outbreak.

Anambra: Husband allegedly kills wife, locks up self with corpse

[dropcap]T[/dropcap]he police in Anambra State have arrested a 49-year-old man, Ikechukwu Atansi, for allegedly killing his wife, Uchechi. It was gathered that after he killed his wife, Ikechukwu locked himself up in a room with her corpse for three days.

The incident happened in Ezimezi, Amawbia, in the Awka South Local Government Area of the state. A resident told newsmem , “The man stayed inside the room with the corpse for three days until her body started decomposing and an offensive odour started oozing out from the room. That was when neighbours knew what had happened.”

The source said he suspected that the suspect was into money ritual.

“I suspect that he killed his wife for money rituals. My thinking is that he stayed with the corpse waiting for it to start yielding money, but he was disappointed,” the source stated.

In his defence, Ikechukwu confirmed that his wife was murdered, but he denied having a hand in the killing.

He said, “I went into a mysterious slumber during the period; I could not understand what was happening around me. Three times, I tried to regain consciousness but failed, because I fell down in the process and went into a deep sleep.

“That was why the matter could not be reported to the police. It was on the third day that I somewhat regained consciousness and I raised the alarm and neighbours came and invited the police.”

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Haruna Mohammed, who confirmed the incident to our correspondent, said the police suspected that the victim was murdered.

He said, “Around 8.30am, a distress call was received by the Central Police Station, Awka, that an unusual odour was perceived by neighbours from the room of one Ikechukwu Atansi at Chimas House, Ezimezi, Amawbia in the Awka South Local Government Area of Anambra State, and that flies were all over the premises.

“Following the report, a police patrol team led by the DPO, Central Police Station, Awka, Chucks Nwoke, rushed to the scene, opened the door and discovered the decomposing body of a woman, who was later identified as Mrs Uchechi Atansi, 31, of Enugwu-Agidi lying lifeless in the room.

“After a careful analysis of the scene by police detectives, marks of violence were observed on the body of the victim and blood spilled all over the room.

“Photographs of the victim as well as the scene were taken and the corpse was removed and deposited in the Amaku General Hospital mortuary for autopsy after it was confirmed dead by a medical doctor.

“Surprisingly, however, the deceased’s husband, one Mr Ikechukwu Atansi, 49, of Umudum village in Isuanochia was right inside the room with the deceased when the door was opened and could not give a satisfactory account of what actually transpired.

“Instead, the husband claimed that he was injected with a substance by unknown persons, who according to him, must have killed his wife.

“The husband was subsequently arrested and he is assisting the police with useful information to unravel the circumstances surrounding the incident.”

The PPRO added that the Commissioner of Police in the state, John Abang, had ordered the immediate transfer of the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Awka, for discreet investigation.

Anigbobi to ex-SA: You lied against Tsekiri; says allegation is fabrication, blackmail

Engr. Matthew Tsekiri

[dropcap]A[/dropcap]llegations of high handedness made against the Delta state commissioner for Science and technology Engr. Matthew Tsekiri by his former Special Assistant has been debunked.

A kinsman of the commissioner, Ambassador Anigbobi in a statement debunked the allegation describing it as blackmail, unfounded lies, outright fabrication of stories, all designed to embarrass the commissioner.

Anigbobi said in a statement that the Special Assistant failed to tell the world that he was relieved of his duty because he lacked the intellectual capacity to cope with the demands of the highly technical position.

Below is full text of Ambassador Anigbobi’s statement:

The blackmail and lies against Matthew Tsekiri

About six months ago, the Hon. Commissioner, Ministry of Science and Technology, Delta State, Engr. Matthew Tsekiri, appointed a Special Assistant (S.A.  ) names withheld to help him in his job in the Ministry.

Not long after the S.A (Special Assistant)  resumed work, the Hon. Commissioner began to notice that he lacked the capacity to effectively function as his Special Assistant, bearing in mind that the Commissioner’s duties entails a lot of technical matters. The Special Assistant claiming to be a graduate on his C.V, was expected to be able to meet a decent standard of intellectual output, but the Hon. Commissioner was disappointed to discover otherwise. He discussed this several times with him but it became obvious that he had apparently reached the limit of his capacity. The Hon. Commissioner gave him some time to pick up, believing he would take it as a challenge.

At a point recently, however, the Commissioner exhausted his patience and decided to relieve him of the burden while exploring another assignment that suits his capacity. As a young graduate with very little exposure, it appears the young man took his disengagement in very bad light, hence his decision to resort to blackmailing the Commissioner through unfounded lies, outright fabrication of stories, all designed to embarrass him. The Hon. Commissioner’s first reaction was that the young man lacked the intellectual depth to pursue a line of calumny of this sort, except perhaps there were some persons behind him who were goading him on to score some cheap political points.

As a Government appointee with a strong passion for youths (male and female) of his community, who have been beneficiaries of his generosity over the years in Uvwie LGA, the Hon. Commissioner had already arranged a new position the former Special Assistant would fill with tasks that were within his capacity to deliver on before his defamatory stories went viral. The Hon. Commissioner has taken this unfortunate incident in his stride and moved on, knowing that blackmail is one of the vocational hazards that every politician would face some day in one’s political journey. The Hon. Commissioner bears no animosity whatsoever towards his former Special Assistant as he believes that his work must go on despite distractions such as this.

Conscience, it is said, is an open wound and only truth can heal it.

Signed:

Ambassador Chris Anigbobi

BREAKING NEWS FROM ASO VILLA

[dropcap]Q[/dropcap]uite a challenging week it has been for Nigeria, and, indeed, the rest of the world. Except perhaps in China only, where the affliction started from, figures of Coronavirus infections continue to mount in other parts of the world. Italy and Spain have been particularly badly hit.

But as the world reels under the impact of a most pernicious pandemic, a suicide bomber wreaking deadly havocs, merchants of fake, hateful news remain fully at work. Aso Villa, the seat of presidential authority, has been their focus for most of the week. They have kept churning out spurious reports after the other about President Muhammadu Buhari, and some other people who work with him. If you choose to believe them, the President by now has even been evacuated, and is receiving medical attention at an undisclosed location somewhere in the wide world.

Breaking news from Aso Villa. That is what you have had day after day. And each time I am contacted to authenticate one story or the other, I tell the enquirers that the Presidential Villa is part of the world, part of humanity, and the people there are not immune from what is happening in the rest of the world.

But the outright fake, hateful news, I have ignored all week. Not a word in response. How do you begin to give wings to concocted stories through responses that will make the falsehood fly faster? No, purveyors of wickedness should not have the satisfaction of drawing us out all the time, and getting some tacit endorsement for their flight of fancy.

A top aide of the President tested positive early in the week. He is receiving adequate care, and he has our best wishes. But for the sinister minds, it was floodgate to all sorts of malediction. All sorts of Breaking News followed:

‘Intensive care machines brought into Aso Rock.’ ‘President Buhari coughing ceaselessly.’ ‘PMB under intensive care.’ ‘Adesina among those who accompanied Abba Kyari to Kogi.’ (I never did). ‘Garba Shehu under self-isolation.’ ‘Buhari may be smuggled out of the country, as condition worsens.’ And by yesterday, a recorded message started circulating on WhatsApp, saying President Buhari had been sneaked out of the country. To where? By who? Their fecund imaginations did not say.
And more Breaking News: ‘Buhari bans journalists from covering Aso Villa.’ (A man supposedly in intensive care was still banning reporters. Lol). ‘Buhari in self-isolation’ (Yet he was in the office on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, even receiving visitors). ‘Aso Villa shut down.’ And the vile beat goes on…

Why do some people conjure nothing but evil? Why do they imagine vain things? In 2017, while President Buhari had his medical challenge, they were on orgy of negative wishes, misinformation, and disinformation. But God pulled a fast one on them. He brought the President back, as right as rain. Haven’t they learned their lessons?

With the good people, however, positive things are happening. Tony Elumelu’s UBA is giving N5 billion to help Nigeria and Africa. Abdusamad Rabiu (BUA) has donated one billion Naira in cash. . Folorunsho Alakija has imported test kits and other materials for Nigerians, worth hundreds of millions of Naira. Aliko Dangote, after an initial donation of N200 million to combat Coronavirus, is leading top bankers and the private sector generally to raise aid. GTBank has donated a 100 beds care center. The Redeemed Christian Church of God has provided ventilators. And many more. These are the people and organizations that should define us as a people, not the conjurers of wickedness and doomsday. God is surely greater than them. And Nigeria too.

COVID – 19 : OSEME URGES ANIOCHA NORTH RESIDENTS TO ABIDE BY THE PREVENTIVE MEASURES

Honourable Chuks Oseme

[dropcap]T[/dropcap]he Executive Chairman of Aniocha North local government of Delta state, Honourable Chuks Oseme , confided to newsmen that his council  has adequately sensitized the people of the area on the precautionary measures reeled out by the state government against the corona virus pandemic.

Oseme said a sensitization committee headed by the Executive Secretary of the Council’s Local Health Authority, Dr. Anthony Okolo, was currently visiting all the communities in the area to sensitize the people on the need to stay at home as directed by government, regularly wash and sanitize their hands, maintain social distancing of not less than six feet and keep their Surroundings clean.

He said hand washing apparatus had been provided in major markets in the area for use by buyers and sellers before the April 1 closure of all markets, adding that traditional rulers had been advised to provide hand washing platforms in their palaces.

The Council chairman reminded the people, particularly in the Onicha – Ugbo axis, that land borders would be closed on Sunday, March 29, and advised them to avoid close contact with visitors from urban centres as corona virus was urban based.

He further stated that filling stations would only operate from 8am to 12noon and urged the people to buy their petrol within the stipulated time.

Oseme disclosed that an enforcement/intelligence committee headed by him had been set up to monitor compliance with the prohibition of social gatherings, pointing out that there would be heavy presence of security personnel to ensure total lockdown.

The local government boss said the Council had earlier met with traditional rulers in the area to discuss the enforcement of the directives of government on the corona virus, particularly the prohibition of burials and marriages in all the communities, noting that appropriate announcements had been made and statements issued by the traditional rulers council and some of the royal fathers on the issue.
