Obey Sit-At-Home Order – Ikwele Urges Deltans

His Eminence, Engr. Celestine Okafor,
Ikwelle of Ibusa Kingdom

[dropcap]H[/dropcap]is Eminence,The Ikwele of Isu Anicent kingdom,Engr. Celestine Okafor, has urged Deltans to obey the restriction of movement order declared by the state government.  Reacting to media reports that the Sit-At-Home order was not being observed 100% in Delta State, His Eminence charged people of Oshimili North local Government Area and  Deltans not to flout any State government directive on the control of the spread of the deadly Corona virus.

He reminded the people that government’s action was for the best interest of all, stressing that flouting the order was a show of ignorance of the negative effects of the Corona virus pandemic presently ravaging the world.

His Eminence, Engr. Okafor said the use of security agents to enforce orders at all times was not always the best approach, emphasizing that the people should comply without being forced to do so.

The lkwele of Ibusa commended the pragmatic steps so far taken by Governor Ifeanyi Okowa to ensure that  Covid 19 is highly controlled in Delta State. He also commended the state government for establishing several holding centers across the state to promptly contain the disease in the event of any case being recorded.

His Eminence urged critical stakeholders to intensify sensitization and awareness campaign against the dreaded virus, saying that as a traditional stakeholder, he would continue to reach out to his people on the need for them to stay safe at all times.

His Eminence described the lockdown as difficult and inconveniencing, but expressed optimism that the trying times would soon be over to enable the people to return to normal life.

Covid -19 : Ikwele Of Ibusa Commends Deltans’ Compliance … Hails Delta Govt For Food Bank Initiative

[dropcap]D[/dropcap]eltans have been commended for their impressive compliance to the Stay-at-Home directive by Governor Ifeanyi Okowa ,to curb the spread of the Coronavirus COVID-19 into the state.

His Eminence,The Ikwele of Isu Anicent kingdom,Engr.Celestine Okafor stated this during the 14-day lockdown period of the state against the COVID-19 pandemic. He said that it is heartwarming that Delta State has not recorded any case of the virus due to the proactiveness of the state Governor Senator Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa. He however, appealed to all residents in the state to remain law-abiding and cooperate with security agencies, just as he advised the security operatives to be civil when they are enforcing the lockdown order.

Ikwele of Ibusa in a statement, Monday , April 6th, 2020 said: “On this Day six of the Stay-at-Home directive by our Governor, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, I hereby commend all Deltans for harkening to the call through their impressive compliance.
His Eminence, Engr. Okafor also commended Okowa administration for setting up a Food Bank to assist in cushioning the effect of the 14 day lockdown in the state on indigent Deltans and a centralised food distribution system, which the Food Bank aimed to achieve, was the best way to go in the present circumstance, as it would ensure compliance with recommended precautionary measures in the distribution process. He added that the Food Bank would also serve the needs of the target vulnerable persons irrespective of political interest as the COVID – 19 lockdown was affecting every Deltan.

His Eminence said uncoordinated food donations and distribution directly to the people could negate the social distancing rule, which was the real essence of the lockdown, adding that the donors might not be able to identify those in need of the food items in their localities.

His Eminence said as a critical traditional stakeholder he had realised that what the people needed most to stay safe from the corona virus was adequate sensitization and enlightenment, pointing out that he was in constant touch with his people to keep them abreast of the relevant information that would prevent the spread of COVID – 19 to the state.

“The reported skirmish that led to an avoidable death in Warri is regrettable. Every life is dear to us and we, therefore, urge the heads of all the security agencies to call their operatives to order and advise them to be civil when they engage any of us who may breach the lockdown order.

His Eminence urged his Kingdom (Ibusa) and Deltans to continue to obey the precautionary measures recommended by experts and the state government, assuring them that the trying times would soon be over.

He commended Governor Okowa for all the proactive steps and measures put in place to keep Delta safe from the COVID-19 pandemic.

Isoko Clergyman, Ebedi Recognised By UN As Eminent Peace Ambassador

By Patrick Ochei

[dropcap]A[/dropcap] Clergyman based at Oleh in Isoko South LGA of Delta State and business man, Pastor Amb. Ebedi Oroh Solomon has been recognised with an award of Eminent Peace Ambassador by the United Nations.

Ebedi who is the pastor of Jesus Dynasty Ministry a.k.a Christ Family, Oleh was recognised based on his peace advocacy and works of charity by the International Association of World Peace Advocates under the United Nations Peace Volunteers. It was learnt that this eminent recognition would see Pastor Ebedi carrying out projects, especially in the areas of peace advocacy in several countries of the world.

Recently, our correspondent had an encounter with this internationally recognised clergy but based in Oleh, and decided to know more about him.

According to him, “I was in my house when the invitation letter came for the recognition. I didn’t lobby for it, neither did I trouble myself to get it.

“I heard that people spend lots of money to lobby for such recognition. But I just got it. And when I asked how, they reminded me of the things I had been doing which the UN had been taking note of.

“That is UN for you. If you merited it, then you indeed merit it. I was doing my little charity works around, preaching peace and sharing love in the manner that our Lord Jesus Christ had taught us in His Word. I didn’t know it would open more international doors for me. So I thank God and return all the glory to him alone”, Amb. Ebedi explained.

A little dig into Amb. Ebedi Oroh Solomon’s background, we discovered he was a selfless giver and passionate philanthropist whose works of love had seen many children of the less privileged through school and others outside the shores of this country for better future.

Aside this international recognition by the UN, Pastor Ebedi remains a delight for awards and recognitions from reputable organisations that honour personalities for their good works and sterling achievements for others to emulate.

GLORIA OKONKWO ONYEKACHI FOUNDATION COMMENDS DELTANS FOR OBEYING GOVT’S STAY AT HOME ORDER OVER COVID – 19

Mrs Gloria Okonkwo Onyekachi, President/ founder,Gloria Okonkwo Onyekachi Foundation(GOOF)

[dropcap]T[/dropcap]he Founder and President of Gloria Okonkwo Onyekachi Foundation worldwide,(www.goofoundation.org) Mrs Gloria Okonkwo Onyekachi, has commended Deltans for obeying government’s stay at home order intended to prevent the spread of the dreaded COVID-19 to the state.

Mrs Onyekachi gave the commendation on Saturday  through phone conversation from her base in Canada with the Publisher of Grassroots Publishers Online, she noted that the Okowa administration had done a lot to prevent the virus from entering the state through efficient and effective sensitization programmes, adding that the Governor had also put in place facilities to manage any emergency that might arise from the pandemic. She explained that the COVID – 19 challenge was not one to be left for the government alone, saying that it was a matter for everyone in view of its global effect on life and the economy. Her Non- Governmental Organisation ( NGO ) Gloria Okonkwo Onyekachi Foundation (GOOF)  worldwide had already distributed soap, hand sanitizers, hand gloves, face masks, and fliers to those sensitized last week and urged them to put the items to good use for their own good.

The GOOF initiator urged the people of Delta State and the communities her NGO(Gloria Okonkwo Onyekachi Foundation) visited to abide by the preventive measures announced by government for their safety, including regular hand washing under running water, use of hand sanitizer, social distancing, as well as looking out for and promptly reporting symptoms of fever, cough and respiratory difficulties.

while reacting to the positive reports sent in by her coordinators on COVID-19 Project Monitoring from their various communities  and She urged them to put the items to good use for their own good , describing the lockdown as a measure to save lives in the various communities and  state. While saying that the Okowa administration placed enormous value on the health of Deltans, Onyekachi advised the people to play safe always so as to be COVID-19 free.
Onyekachi enjoined the sick to avoid sharing dishes, glasses, beddings and other household items with other people in order to curb the spread of the disease. She urged returnees to Nigeria with symptoms of fever, cough and breathing difficulties to self isolate within 14 days of arrival, for proper observation.

Onyekachi commended her Co-ordinators on Covid-19 Project Monitoring for sending in their reports and urged them to monitor their various communities and send in more situation reports to her on the government stay at home directive.

5G and COVID-19: The technology, conspiracy and ignorance

[dropcap]O[/dropcap]ne would ordinarily have dismissed the “controversy” around 5G technology and the strange connection with COVID-19 being stridently pursued by some people as ignorant rants occasioned by the morbid fear of the rampaging coronavirus, but with the prevailing circumstances of fear and tension, I have elected, as one familiar with the workings of the telecommunications industry, to say something.

Several years ago, I was part of a global campaign by mobile telecommunications operators to debunk a widely held belief that telecommunications base stations emitted radiations that led to Cancer.

As an organisation, my employers then spent a lot of money on an awareness campaign to explain that the radiations from telecommunications base stations were within the safe limits and definitely not injurious to health. It worked then and saved the operators a lot of trouble.

I hope I succeed this time in helping to clarify this particular issue and stop these manipulative charlatans in their tracks. It has to be stated, though, that times like these are fertile moments for mischief-makers and conspiracy theorists to peddle their virulent wares taking undue advantage of the fears and vulnerability of the people, especially the ignorant and the illiterate.

So, while we are keeping safe, we must remain vigilant and ever ready to challenge Fake News and outright lies wherever and whenever.

First, let’s discuss 5G. What is it? To understand 5G, we must first understand G. G stands for generation. So, 5G means 5th Generation Mobile Technology. Most mobile telecommunications operations are currently running on 4G (4th Generation LTE and high-speed mobile internet).

Before now, we have had 3G (voice and mobile data) and 2G (digital voice) and 1G (analog voice), of course. It must be admitted that the mobile telecommunications industry is probably one of the most innovative and fastest developing of all. Perhaps, the other will be television and aviation.

Lest I digress, 5G is the next level, after 4G, and will “elevate the mobile network to not only interconnect people, but also interconnect and control machines, objects, and devices”, according to Qualcomm.

Continuing, the technology research and development company says “5G will deliver new levels of performance and efficiency that will empower new user experiences and connect new industries. 5G will deliver multi-Gbps peak rates, ultra-low latency, massive capacity, and more uniform user experience.”

5G is similar to 4G but it has much better speed, low latency and has capacity to take more users. It has the capability to enhance the broadband we know today to do more, connect more people and devices and generate more revenue.

It is indeed super-fast and has a much smaller cell site than what we already know. And that is no surprise as the world seems to be going smaller, especially in the world of technology. Comparably, 5G is a unified platform that is more capable than 4G.

Here’s how Qualcomm classified the advantages of 5G:

A. Enhanced Mobile Broadband: 5G will not only make our smartphones better, but it will also usher in new immersive experiences, such as VR and AR, with faster, more uniform data rates, lower latency, and cost-per-bit.

B. Mission-Critical communications: 5G will enable new services that can transform industries with ultra-reliable/available, low latency links—such as remote control of critical infrastructure, vehicles, and medical procedures.

C. Massive Internet of Things: 5G will seamlessly connect a massive number of embedded sensors in virtually everything through the ability to scale down in data rates, power and mobility to provide extremely lean/low-cost solutions.

D. A defining capability of 5G is also the design for forward compatibility—the ability to flexibly support future services that are unknown today.

In essence, this is technology that will redefine the way we communicate, entertain, shop, and generally love our lives. If you think 3G and 4G changed the aforementioned, 5G will transform them. By the way, there isn’t much more you really need as a user to know about how 5G is delivered to your device, your device or your home, except that you should get ready for new realities-devices, content, apps, lifestyle.

Medical scans and other results will also be delivered much faster than ever before. I still treasure the video of the Esophagoscopy test I did 5 years ago! I know Tito and Muna, my twins will forever cherish the video of their first steps and first words!

I’m keeping them safely in iCloud! Now to the conspiracies around 5G and the untenable and fallacious connections to the Coronavirus pandemic.

It is customary in times of strife and great difficulties for bad guys with a proclivity for mischief to take undue advantage of the emotions, the fears and the vulnerabilities of others to peddle all sorts of nonsense including Conspiracy Theories.

I must say here that people in that business are usually clever, but they are more often than not clever by half. On the issue of the relationship between 5G and Coronavirus, nothing can be more ludicrously deceptive.

The choice of this moment to change the narrative against 5G makes it all too obvious. There has been a strategic campaign against the 5G technology driven by business and diplomacy and propagated by an orchestrated campaign to discredit the innovation. How it got twisted to establish a link to Coronavirus is perhaps the most important argument to debunk the fables.

I would rather not rehash the claims and allegations by those who are behind the fallacious pretensions to intellectualism, so we do not lend further currency and even credence to them, but suffice it to say that the Conspirators refer to two theories to support the claim that 5G accelerates the new coronavirus.

Firstly, that 5G might suppress the immune system and, secondly, that viruses can communicate through radio waves. Of course, neither of these theories is backed up by evidence and indeed the new coronavirus is also affecting countries and regions where no 5G is currently present. So what are we even talking about?

The most important point here is that those who should know have come out strongly to debunk them. The UK government yesterday came out with perhaps the strongest rebuttal of these figments of the fertile imagination of some self-styled scientists.

“There is absolutely no credible evidence of a link between 5G and coronavirus,” the UK’s department of Digital, Culture, Media, and Sport (DCMS) tweeted, noting that “inaccurate information” was being spread online about 5G.

The DCMS pointed to research debunking the supposed link between 5G and the coronavirus, as well as links discussing the actual cause of the infection — direct exposure to COVID-19 particles spread through physical contact, not radio waves.

Trade association Mobile UK, a group which represents all of the major UK carriers, issued a statement, calling the conspiracy theory “baseless” and “not grounded in accepted scientific theory’, and noting that “some people are also abusing our key workers and making threats to damage infrastructure.”

The statement read in part: “During this challenging situation, it is concerning that certain groups are using the COVID-19 pandemic to spread false rumours and theories about the safety of 5G technologies.

The mobile industry is putting 100% of its effort into ensuring that the UK remains connected and the Government has rightly recognised our workers and the mobile operators as critical to the national effort.”

Continuing, it said: “The theories that are being spread about 5G on social media are baseless and are not grounded in accepted scientific theory. Research into the safety of radio signals including 5G, which has been conducted for more than 50 years, has led to the establishment of human exposure standards including safety factors that protect against all established health risks.”

Categorically speaking, there is no evidence that 5G networks are harmful to health.

Like the previous generations of wireless network technology (4G, 3G and 2G), 5G mobile data is transmitted over radio waves. Other types of technology that use radio waves include smart meters, TV and radio transmitters, and radar and satellite communications. Most modern medical laboratory equipment use radio waves, some use nuclear radiation, but they are used within the guidelines.

By the way, every medication has recommended dosage. Even too much food and drinks can become injurious to health. This is basically the same principle on which radio waves operate. There are acceptable safe limits, which are determined, specified, regulated and supervised by International Technology Regulatory bodies. That is a universal truth in international best practice. practice.

According to Kate Lewis of Full Facts, “Radio waves are a small part of a wider electromagnetic spectrum of waves, which all emit energy called electromagnetic radiation. Radio waves are found at the low-frequency end of the spectrum and—alongside microwaves, visible light and heat—only produce non-ionising radiation.

This means that these waves cannot damage the DNA inside cells, which is how waves with higher frequencies (such as x-rays, gamma rays and ultraviolet light) are thought to cause cancer. To improve the speed and capacity of our wireless technology, 5G uses a higher frequency of radio waves compared to its older generations.

The frequency of this new wireless technology remains very low: the maximum levels of electromagnetic radiation measured by Ofcom were about 66 times smaller than the safety limits set by international guidelines. Public Health England states that “the overall exposure is expected to remain low relative to guidelines and, as such, there should be no consequences for public health.”

Continuing, Lewis wrote: “The Daily Star quotes an “activist and philosophy lecturer at the Isle of Wight College” saying that electromagnetic radiation from 5G suppresses the immune system, helping the virus to thrive.

As mentioned above, the level of radiation from 5G is far below levels of electromagnetic radiation thought to cause damage to cells in the human body.

The second theory appears to be that “viruses “talk to each other” when making decisions about infecting a host”. This is not true. The Daily Star article links to a 2011 research paper which suggested that bacteria may produce electromagnetic signals to communicate with other bacteria. This hypothesis is disputed, and refers to bacteria and not viruses like the new coronavirus.

“The new coronavirus is also spreading in places without 5G networks. There are many parts of the UK that do not have 5G coverage yet, but are still affected by the virus (for example, Milton Keynes and Portsmouth).

There are no 5G networks at all in Iran, yet this country has been severely affected by Covid-19 (at the time of writing, Iran had the sixth-highest number of reported Covid-19 cases and fourth-highest number of deaths of 177 countries and regions in the world).”

It is regrettable and highly unfortunate that people should prey on the vulnerability and fears of others in a critical time like this. One would even begin to wonder which generation of mobile technology facilitated the spread of the Spanish Flu aka Influenza, which ravaged the world between 1918 and 1920 and killed over 50 million people worldwide including 500,000 Nigerians!

What is even more regrettable is the tendency of otherwise educated, enlightened and widely travelled even influential people to lend credence to these fallacies and flights of academic fantasies by either sharing them without commentary or propagating them as truths and facts.

In the long run we are all dead, so said the fatalistic Social Economist Thomas Keynes. We are already surrounded by televisions, refrigerators, microwaves cookers and ovens, wireless electronics, computers and all sorts of mobile devices in addition to the radiations we experience during visits to medical laboratories for one health-related investigation of the other.

Why cause panic with 5G? The law of unity and conflict of opposites presupposes that everything we eat to stay alive ultimately contributes to killing us, one way or the other. It is preposterous to single out 5G technology particularly at this time.

I will NOT forget that the United States is not particularly pleased that China beat her to the race for 5G, the reason Huawei Technologies has suffered tremendous (apologies to President Donald Trump) persecution in the hands of the US government.

In the end, facts are facts, fiction is fiction. Science is fact not fiction. Stay woke! Be safe!

Doctors oppose FG’s plan to invite Chinese medical experts

[dropcap]T[/dropcap]he Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) is opposed to plan by the federal government to bring in a team of 18 Chinese medical experts to assist Nigeria in the fight against COVID-19.

President of the association, Dr Aliyu Sokomba, said in a statement yesterday that the move was illegal as all doctors coming into the country are supposed to be licensed by the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria.

He advised government to shelve the plan forthwith and immediately engage all key relevant Nigerian medical experts including NARD and present the full intents and purpose of the planned importation of the Chinese experts for full evaluation, cost-benefit analysis and consensus on the best option.

He said: “The attempt to import Human resources for Health from China into Nigeria where many qualified medical doctors and other cadres of health workers are yet to be gainfully employed is the height of insensitivity and disservice on the part of the Federal Government and their advisers.

“The challenge at hand would have been sufficient marker to agitate the FG to the direction and timing for massive employment of medical and other health care workers to provide enough hands in the industry to battle the COVID 19 as other nations are doing.”

Nigeria records 5 new cases of Coronavirus

[dropcap]N[/dropcap]igeria has recorded another five new cases of Coronavirus, bringing the total national figures to 214 cases.

According to the Nigerian Centre for Disease Control, NCDC, the five new cases were recorded in Bauchi and Abuja.

It said three cases were recorded in Bauchi States and two at the Federal Capital Territory, FCT.

“Five new cases of COVID-19 have been reported in Nigeria: 3 in Bauchi and 2 in the FCT.

“As at 10:10pm 4th, April there are 214 confirmed cases of COVID-19 reported in Nigeria. Twenty-five have been discharged with two deaths,” it tweeted.

10 Most Beautiful Snakes In The World

1. SAN FRANCISCO GARTER SNAKE

Not Dangerous (Non-poisonous) – This snake does not have venom that is dangerous to most humans.

Gartersnakes have toxins in their saliva which can be deadly to their prey and their bite might produce an unpleasant reaction in humans, but they are not considered dangerous to humans.

Often escapes into water when threatened. When first handled, typical of gartersnakes, this snake often releases cloacal contents and musk, and strikes.

This snake also utilizes a wide variety of habitats, preferring grasslands or wetlands near ponds, marshes and sloughs. May overwinter in upland areas away from water.

2. BRAZILIAN RAINBOW BOA

The Brazilian rainbow boa is the largest of the several recognized rainbow boa subspecies (up to 12) endemic to Central and South America.

These beautiful snakes are found in the Amazon basin of Brazil, Southern Venezuela, French Guiana, coastal Guyana and Suriname.

Rainbow boas are members of the Boidae family, which includes about 40 other species like the

boa constrictor or the Amazon rainforest giant snake the green anaconda . All boas are considered primitive snakes, because they still display vestigial hind limbs as small spurs on both sides of the cloaca.

These primarily terrestrial snakes are usually found near water, they inhabit rainforest, humid woodland forests but can also sometimes be found in open savannas. They do have a prehensile tail to help them climb, but they are not truly arboreal snakes.

The Brazilian rainbow boa is a medium size species, with a round body boa ranging in length from 4 to 6 feet (1.2 – 1.8 m) and weighing 2 or 3 lbs. Females grow larger than their male counterparts. Although not especially large their head is distinctly wider than the neck with 3 parallel black stripes.

There is a great variation in both color and pattern among these snakes. They have a soft and beautiful iridescent skin, hence their common name, rainbow boas. Just after shedding its scales become even more iridescent. The Brazilian rainbow boa is brown or reddish-brown, with large black dorsal blotches down the back.

They are considered by many as the world’s most beautiful snake, although I would consider one other species a real contender for this title the green tree Python or even the emerald tree boa.

The species is also known as the slender boa or simply rainbow boa.

Because of their beautiful iridescent skin, the Brazilian rainbow boa is a very popular species within the exotic pet trade. Since this species needs a high humidity environment, they are regarded as an intermediate or difficult snake to keep in captivity.

These boas are readily available at exotic pet stores, or local reptile shows with several morphs available. When they are younger they are more prone to bite due to natural defense instincts, but as they become more used to handling tend to calm down.

Like other species, the young Brazilian rainbow boas are probably preyed upon by birds of prey, small mammals or other reptiles. Their lifespan in the wild is estimated to be around 10 years, but in captivity, the species may live up to 30 years.

3. HONDURAN MILK SNAKE

Called milk snakes due to the fable that they milk cows, Honduran milk snakes, are secretive and powerful constrictors that can attain a length of up to four feet. They are primarily terrestrial and are nervous creatures that can be difficult to handle.

Hatchlings can be feisty, striking and biting when only minimally provoked. Adults are usually less apt to bite, but often squirm strongly and void the contents of their cloaca when restrained. Despite those drawbacks, the Honduran milk snake’s brilliant coloration, ready availability and very wide range of costs, make this hardy snake a hobbyist favorite.

Honduran milksnakes are large and powerful, well designed for a life burrowing through leaf litter and loose soil. These characteristics also make them uniquely suited for escaping from cages, so regardless of the type of caging chosen, it must be absolutely secure! Like other members of the genus Lampropeltis, Hondurans are ophiophagus, meaning they will eat other snakes, including members of their own species. Therefore they should be maintained singly.

4. FORMOSAN ODD SCALED SNAKE

Small snake; total length up to 90 cm. Whole body is iridescent under light. There are 23-29 (mostly 27 at mid-body) rows of scales, which are keeled throughout body (and tail). The scales of an outermost row in upper face of postcloacal region are not much enlarged when compared with adjacent scales. Head is small, oval and not distinct from neck; body is slender; tail is moderately short. Eye is small, bead-like; iris is black, indistinct since it blends with dark head and pupil is round, black, and blends with rest of eye. Tongue has reddish stem and diffuse gray fork tips whose base is dark brown. The frontal is slightly broader than long; the parietal is nearly twice as long as broad and contacted posterolaterally by an enlarged paraparietal scale.

Upper head, body and tail is uniform olive (dark-edged in anterior part of scale), grayish tan, or black. There is a dark longitudinal line on mid-dorsal row of scales on body and tail. Ventral surface is olive-yellow (dark-edged in anterior part of scale) or dark gray; the color is slightly darker on tail than on body. Whole body is usually black in the young. Anal scale is entire, and subcaudals are not divided.

Biology & Ecology This nocturnal and terrestrial oviparous snake inhabits humid environments, such as montane forest floors, stone cracks or decayed plants. Earthworms, slugs, or frogs may be its staple food. It is not aggressive, and reports of attacks by this snake are rare.

5. RED HEADED KRAIT

Kraits are a genus of snakes which number among the world’s deadliest in terms of the quantity of venom needed to kill a human. There are fourteen species of krait, found in South East Asia and in South Asia. The feed on other snakes, including members of their own species.

Three species of krait are known from Sumatra. These are Bungarus candidus, the Malayan krait or blue krait, Bungarus flaviceps, the red-headed krait, and Bungarus fasciatus, the banded krait.

Kraits are nocturnal, feeding at night and in the early morning. Untreated krait bites are usually deadly, however bites by the red-headed krait are rare to unknown. The Malayan krait and banded krait are dangerous at night, when they are far more likely to strike.

6. IRIDESCENT SHIELDTAIL

Shieldtail snake , (family Uropeltidae), any of 45 species of primitive burrowing snakes

endemic to southern India and Sri Lanka . There are eight genera of shieldtail snakes. Of the 30 Indian species, 18 are members of the genus Uropeltis , and of the 15 species found in Sri Lanka, 8 are members of the genus Rhinophis. Shieldtail snakes are small, typically growing to between 25 and 50 cm (10 and 20 inches) in length—although some may grow to 90 cm (35 inches). They are harmless, specialized snakes that have narrow, pointed heads with tiny eyes beneath head shields. Shieldtails are named for their unique tails, which are heavily keeled and terminate in disklike shields or multiple spines in most species. Most species appear black, purple, or brown, but some are coloured with red, orange, or yellow spots and bars; all are highly iridescent.

Shieldtails are nocturnal and live at higher elevations in loose soil, among plant roots , under decaying vegetation, and in agricultural beds. They dig their own tunnels, which are plugged by their disked tails that provide a purchase when tunneling. This practice prevents other predatory snakes from attacking them from behind. When they are handled, their defensive behaviour is defecation . Their diet is principally made up of earthworms ; however, some species also consume

arthropods . Shieldtails are completely inoffensive and never bite. They give birth to 3–9 living young.

7. GREEN TREE PYTHON

The Green Tree Python (Morelia viridis ) is an arboreal species which spends a great deal of its time in trees, as its common name suggests.

Adult Green Tree Pythons are bright green in colour with a broken vertebral stripe of white or yellow. They may also have blue, white or yellow spots scattered over their body, their colour patterns varying according to their different locations. They can reach lengths of between 1.2 and 2.2 metres and have a slender shape with a prehensile tail enabling them to hold on to and move easily between tree branches.

Juvenile Green Tree Pythons vary in colour from brick red, orange, yellow, to dark brown-black, all in the same clutch. As they mature at between six and eight months old, they change to the adult bright green colour, but some may take up to two years to make the full change to green. It can be an exciting pastime to watch their colour change as each colour pattern is unique to each individual snake,Behaviour and diet.

Green Tree Pythons are solitary and only descend to the ground to hunt or to move between trees. They have a particular way of curling up on tree branches, in a saddle position placing their head on the middle of their coils. This trait and their physical appearance are similar to the Emerald Tree Boa ( Corallus caninus ) of South America, which causes people to confuse the two, especially when seen outside their natural habitat.

The large head of the species is wider than the body and has thermo-receptive pits in the scales around the mouth which detect relative changes in temperature. These thermo-receptive pits help the snake detect warm-blooded prey when hunting at night when they are most active. Their diet mainly consists of rodents, rabbits and other small mammals and reptiles.

They use their tails as a hunting strategy, attracting prey by wriggling their tail to resemble a worm or small snake to birds and lizards. They grab their prey from a distance. Using their wide jaws and enlarged front teeth to hold on to fast-moving prey, they coil around and suffocate the prey. Another method of capture is by holding onto a branch using their prehensile tail and striking out in an s-shaped position to grab their prey before constricting on a hunting strategy, attracting prey by wriggling their tail to resemble a worm or small snake to birds and lizards. 8. EASTERN CORAL SNAKE

The eastern coral snake is found in scattered localities in the southern Coastal Plain from North Carolina to Louisiana, including all of Florida, where they are most prevalent. They can be found in pine and scrub oak sandhills habitats in parts of their range but sometimes inhabit hardwood areas and pine flatwoods that undergo seasonal flooding.

Coral snakes are rarely seen in most areas where they occur, probably because they are highly secretive and spend most of their time underground. They typically do not climb trees or shrubs and spend only limited time crawling above ground. Most sightings of coral snakes are in the spring and fall. When threatened, coral snakes often elevate and curl the tip of their tail. They are noted for preying primarily on other snakes and lizards, which they kill by injecting with venom. Eastern coral snakes lay an average of six or seven eggs in early summer and the young hatch in late summer or early fall. Perhaps because of their secretive habits, coral snakes often persist is suburban areas.

Coral snakes are afforded no federal or state protection, but because of their secretive nature small populations are probably unknowingly destroyed by human development of their habitat.

9. BLUE RACER SNAKE

The Blue Racer ( ) is a subspecies of Coluber constrictor, a group of non-venomous colubrid snakes commonly referred to as the eastern racers.

In the past, there was some controversy about designating the blue racer as a distinct subspecies today it has been accepted as a separate subspecies of the eastern racers.

Their range extends from Canada including eastern regions of Pelee Island to the north and Mexico, Guatemala and, Belize in the south.

This species is also found throughout the US in the eastern regions of the Rocky Mountains in the states of Ohio, Indiana, Michigan, Illinois, Oregon, Wisconsin, Washington, western South Dakota and Iowa.

The blue racer snake can be found in open or semi-open habitats, like hedgerows, meadows, savannas or weedy lake edges and marshes and all these habitats are necessary for fulfilling their ecological requirements.

These snakes are very intolerant to human activity for this reason they prefer to live in areas with fewer human habitations.

Usually, they are among the first snake species to disappear from developing suburban areas. Their habitat can occupy an area extending up to 25 acres, but a large number of them can live in the same area, as the species is not territorial by nature.

As their common name suggests, the blue racer is a very fast snake that can move at speeds of almost 7 Km or 4,3 mph, even so far from the lightning speed of the highly venomous black mamba .

This speed helps them catch prey or avoid being preyed upon. The species lifespan in the wild ranges from 15 to 20 years.

They are active during daytime and prefer to spend most of their time on the ground, but are known to forage both on ground and trees. The blue racers are known to hibernate in large groups during the cold winter months.

When hunting they hold up their heads up and move very fast through brushes using their keen eyesight. The blue racer will try to escape into the bush and may even climb into low bushes or small trees if threatened. Even though they are non-venomous, they are still very capable of inflicting a painful bite if cornered.

Their length ranges between 35 to 60 inches (90 to 152 cm) and it’s one of the largest snakes found in Ontario.

The underbelly color is a creamy white, the backside varies from a brilliant blue (hence their common name) to a dull gray and they have light brown to gray dorsum.

They have smooth scales, large eyes, and a brownish orange snout. Unlike adult blue racers, hatchlings and juvenile snakes display dorsal blotches that will eventually fade away by their 3rd year.

Some of the large birds of prey like the red-tailed hawk, northern harrier, and great horned owl are amongst its predators but they are also preyed on by coyotes, foxes, raccoons, dogs and feral house cats or wild cats.

10. ASIAN VINE SNAKE

Asian vine snake, looks like a long, green vine, just perfect for the swinging, but it’s actually a long, green, venomous SNAKE!

There are 8 species of Asian Vine Snake found in the rainforests of countries like India, Burma and Malaysia.

The biggest species, like Ahaetulla prasina , may reach some 1.8 metres (6 feet) long, while others are just 60 cm (2 ft) in length.

However big they are, they’re always incredibly slender and a lot of them are a beautiful, bright green colour. That’s why they’re called Vine Snakes or Whipsnakes.

Asian Vine Snakes spend their lives up in trees and shrubs, clinging to the branches and mostly not moving much. That way they can remain well camouflaged and watch the world go by with their enormous, unimpressed eyes.

One really cool thing about these snakes is the incredible control they have over their bodies. Have you ever done that exercise where you lay on your back, feet together, lift your heels an inch off the floor and try and stay like that for as long as possible? It quickly becomes agony.

Asian Vine Snakes are quite shy and often don’t even bite. Their venom is quite mild anyway, and seems to cause little more than a bit of swelling in humans. Also they’re rear-fanged. Their fangs aren’t at the front of their mouth like in vipers, but at the back instead.

Regardless, the fangs and venom are sufficient to rapidly paralyse the fast, energetic lizards that make up their diet. One species even clings to a branch overlooking a river and feeds exclusively on fish!

They may look dainty, but they’re still deadly.

[dropcap]A [/dropcap]pregnant woman has died after her husband allegedly stabbed her to death just two months after their wedding. Rita Onyemauchechukwu Onyebuchi and her husband  Mr Ikechukwu popularly called “Agbada”, both from Anambra state, got married on January 10, 2020.

So i informed my mom who said she has been calling her too but no response and also that her son-in-law (my sister husband) phone was switched off on Thursday 26/3/2020 I decided to stop at their house before going to work.

Reaching the compound i saw police men in the compound and crowds gathered. When the special crime unit of the police arrived i was taken to the room to find the dead body of my sister MRS RITA ONYEBUCHI laying in pool of blood .

And the body has started to decompose. The whole place was smelling and blood all over the bedroom.I was shocked i couldn’t tell my mom at that point who also came to know why her daughter wasn’t answering her calls.

Mama was suffering high blood pressure that why i couldn’t tell her then and pleaded that people should take away from the place. My sister was 2 month pregnant as i was writing this story.
