His Eminence, High Chief Celestine Okafor, Ikwele of Ibusa standing with Gov. Ifeanyi Okowa during a recent courtesy visit to Government House.

His Eminence, High Chief Celestine Okafor as the 12th Ikwele Of Isu Kingdom,he means different things to different people; to his wife and children, he is a loving husband and a kind daddy, while to us his admirers he is known as the Digital traditional Strategist but his detractors always erroneously see him as an Obstacle because of his rising profile and acceptance by the grassroots.
His Eminence, High Chief Celestine Okafor is not only the Pride of Ibusa Kingdom but also the Pride of the People of Oshimili North for whom he had waged countless traditional wars for and won virtually all, just like the Greek mythological Odyssey who fought and won difficult battles in History, the grassroots traditional mobilizer of our time also fought and won many battles even those considered as herculean in nature for his people. He occupies one of the most important thrones in Igbuzo Kingdom but doesn’t make a fuss of it.High Chief Celestine Okafor is officially the spiritual leader and custodian of Igbuzo. He is the only living Igbuzo man that has the ears of the gods and the ancestors even as he relays the messages of our gods to the living.
As his greetings (Owouta….means The one who wages the arrows) connotes, he has the sole responsibility of protecting Igbuzo and her children from the negative spiritual arrows fired at the town and her people – a duty he performs every second of the day! The Ikwele institution is the engine room of Ibusa traditional system ,Ikwele of Ibusa is the only man who initiates the warlords in the town before the the senior diopka and Obuzor chalks any of the warlords – Odogwu Of Igbuzo, Iyase Of Igbuzo and the Uwolo Of Igbuzo, the occupant-to-be must pass through the spiritual powers and endorsement of Ikwele who prepares him for the onerous task ahead.

Ikwele of Ibusa is not a political position nor influenced by position in the society but strictly a spiritual affair and
the umbilical cord from the first Ikwele to the recent Ikwlle has remained unbroken. Let us not forget that
the Ikwele Institution is the only seat in Igbuzo that can not be politicized, because Ikwele Igbozu is “god among men” As the 12th Ikwele of Ibusa , You have really voiced out and fought for your people’s common goals,You remains the only traditional authority who knows the plight, feelings and desires of his People and Youths. High Chief Celestine Okafor has achieved in Ibusa and he has been able to touch the lives of the Youths like never before and also proved himself a force to reckon with among frontline players of Ibusa traditional system.

Coronavirus: WHO warns against stopping immunisation against other diseases

Vaccines used to illustrate the story

[dropcap]S[/dropcap]hutting down immunisation services during the COVID-19 pandemic risks triggering a resurgence of diseases that can be prevented with safe and effective vaccines, the World Health Organisation, (WHO), has warned.

The warning is coming as part of a commemoration of World Immunisation Week (24-30 April).

When immunisation services are disrupted, even for brief periods during emergencies, the risk of vaccine-preventable disease outbreaks, such as measles and polio, increases.

According to a statement on the WHO website, last year’s deadly measles outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, took more than 6000 lives in a country already facing its largest Ebola outbreak.

“This highlights the importance of maintaining essential health services, such as immunization in times of emergency,” it said.

“Further disease outbreaks will also overwhelm health systems already battling the impacts of COVID-19,” it added.

WHO chief, Tedros Ghebreyesus, on the website said disease outbreaks must not remain a threat when safe and effective vaccines are available.

“While the world strives to develop a new vaccine for COVID-19 at record speed, we must not risk losing the fight to protect everyone, everywhere against vaccine-preventable diseases. These diseases will come roaring back if we do not vaccinate,” he said.

WHO says it is working with partners all over the world to accelerate research and development of a safe and effective vaccine and ensure equitable access for the billions of people who will need it.

Yet, even with an expedited process, development of a vaccine for COVID-19 will take time.

Mr Ghebreyesus said too many people are still excluded from the benefits of vaccines.

“Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, the world had made immense progress in ensuring that children are vaccinated.”

Before the coronavirus pandemic

A report from WHO shows that in 2018, 86 per cent of children under the age of five globally were vaccinated with three doses of diphtheria, tetanus and pertussis (DTP3) and one dose of the measles vaccine, up from 72 per cent in 2000 and 20 per cent in 1980.

It said the number of children paralysed by polio has been reduced by 99.9 per cent worldwide.

Yet, global vaccination coverage is still far from the 95 per cent coverage needed to fully protect communities against outbreaks of this vaccine-preventable disease.

In 2018, nearly 20 million children worldwide – more than 1 in 10 – missed out on lifesaving vaccines, such as measles, diphtheria and tetanus.

Roughly, 13 million of the children have never received any vaccines, putting them and their communities at risk of disease and death.

The majority of these children live in countries with already fragile health systems, further limiting their access to essential health services when they fall sick.

Measles continues to remain an ever-present threat, especially if vaccination rates drops. Current projections indicate that as many as 800,000 people may have been infected with the disease in 2019.

In 2020 there are increasing concerns about another resurgence, especially if vaccination rates fall due to delay or suspension of scheduled immunisation activities as a result of COVID-19.

Outbreaks of polio, diphtheria and yellow fever are also of high concern, especially in the countries least able to respond quickly and decisively to address an emerging outbreak, as seen in previous emergencies such as the polio outbreak in Syria in 2013.

Maintaining immunisation services during COVID-19

“As the response to COVID-19 continues, countries must act now protect immunization services, in order to further minimize disease outbreaks and loss of life,” it said

This includes, facilitating urgent catch up programmes in places where services have been disrupted, ensuring strong supply chains, disease surveillance and trained health workers.

It said caregivers should also make sure they continue to vaccinate their children in line with national policies.

New WHO guidelines on immunisation and COVID-19 recommend that governments temporarily pause preventive immunisation campaigns where there is no active outbreak of a vaccine-preventable disease.

Also, it urges countries to prioritise the continuation of routine immunisation of children in essential service delivery, as well as adult vaccinations such as influenza for groups most at risk.

“If immunization services must be suspended, urgent catch-up vaccinations should be rescheduled as soon as possible, prioritizing those most at risk.”

Doctors discover new symptom of coronavirus

A blistered, swollen toe: sign of the coronavirus

[dropcap]D[/dropcap]octors in the U.S., the world’s worst hit country by the coronavirus have found a new symptom for the virus.

The symptom lies in the toes or fingers of the afflicted, especially in white people.

It is called the Covid toe. The good part is that it appears in both asymptomatic and severe cases.

The World Health Organisation listed fever, tiredness, dry cough, aches and pains, nasal congestion, runny nose, sore throat and diarrhea as the virus’s common symptoms.

Now the U.S. doctors said purple and swollen toes that look like they’ve been frostbitten may be the latest indication of coronavirus infection.

The symptom could be the latest indication that one should get tested for coronavirus.

The American Academy of Dermatology (AAD) launched a registry last week to track the dermatological effects that COVID-19 virus patients may be experiencing and received over 200 submissions from healthcare providers as of Wednesday afternoon.

Dr. Esther Freeman, a dermatologist and epidemiologist at Massachusetts General Hospital and a faculty member at Harvard medical school, is managing the registry in collaboration with the AAD.

Freeman said around half of the cases in the registry note these lesions in the hands or feet that resemble frostbite.

The Farmer urged his constituents to comply with instructions issued by the government and the National Center for Diseases Control (NCDC), by observing Social and Physical Distancing, noting that this is the surest way to prevent an escalation of the situation.

Elofu-Dike in a phone chat with Grassroots Publishers online, titled;“Clarion Call on Our People to Stay Safe,” he pleaded with his Deltans stay at home and manages whatever resources that are available.

According to him; “The rampaging COVID-19 seems to be near its peak if we all can stay safe. Those who expressed disbelief initially are now coming to terms with reality. This is the time for all of us to comply with instructions issued by the authorities. Otherwise, an avoidable prolongation of this pandemic looms.

“I call on our people to Stay Home and observe Social and Physical Distancing as this is the surest way to prevent an escalation of the situation. At times such as this, we must all make the sacrifice to overcome. Available evidence shows that societies that refused to observe self-isolation had significant proportions of their populations wiped out. God forbid!

“Please let’s all stay at home and manage whatever resources are available. We should wash our hands regularly with soap and running water and avoid touching our eyes, mouth or nose. Sneezing must be to the elbow and causes of illness reported to Public Health Facilities disclosing true position.

“Finally we should intensify our prayers that God in his infinite mercy saves us all. After all, he assured us in 2 Chron. 7:13-14 “If I shut up heaven that there be no rain, or if I command the locusts to devour the land, or if I send pestilence among my people; If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land” God hears our prayers!” he added.
