Asaba Community Bestows Alor/Ogbueshi Title On Dominic Okonta

By: Ike Philip Abiagom

Ogbueshi Dominic Okonta

[dropcap]D[/dropcap]r Dominic Okonta, DCS.CISM.CEH. SSCP  has added another feather to his royalty with his coronation as (Ogbueshi) Chukwutubeugo,”Onye ego na ejele ozi” at Onaje Quarters,Asaba. Alor title is one of the major titles in various Anioma towns especially among the Enuani communities although the origin remains largely unknown. In other Anioma communities the name is either retained or known as “Ichi-nmor” depending on the particular society. In places like Asaba, an Mkpalor is known as “Ogbueshi”. The Ogbueshi, only a dialectical version of Ogbuenyi involves a traditional practice in which a particular male has metaphorically killed a cow. It has been emphasized that cow in the traditional sense symbolizes the mother earth. The Ogbueshi process is complex yet, ecessary in our society where it is practiced. However, it is called “Mkpalor” in communities like Asaba, Ibusa, Akwukwu-Igbo and others.

The Mkpalor come with integrity, honour and authority for some traditional reasons. Alor is an expensive title with rigorous ceremonies that require efforts and money to embark on especially in individual capacity. To be an Mkpalor, one must be a male and must have lost his father to death. It is the loss of the father that symbolizes the manhood status in him. Although age is not a factor here, it is an abomination for anyone to share Alor status with his living father. What is derivable from it is that the rites of Alor does not recognize anyone as a man in the presence of his father since it is the demise of the father that thrust one with fatherhood and accompanying fatherly responsibilities.

Ogbueshi(Dr) Dominic Okonta, DCS.CISM.CEH. SSCP, the American based medical doctor is being conferred with the Alor Title (Ogbueshi) Chukwutubeugo,”Onye ego na ejele ozi” at Onaje Quarters,Asaba, Delta State. In Asaba Alor title (Ogbueshi) has some well cherished expectation, not fighting in the streets, must not be found publicly drunk or misbehave, shall not steal or be found guilty of any misconduct, involve in criminal activity as doing any of the foregoing would tantamount to demeaning the traditional office and the honour that characterises it as well as watering down the esteem of other traditional title holders in Asaba community.

Ogbueshi(Dr) Dominic Okonta,is eminently qualified considering the fact that he lost his father some years ago. Since then has never allowed the situation to depress him, rather he focused on the realisation of his life ambition. Infact, the condition that he must be fatherless before he can be qualified for the title made him to once more regret his father’s death. As disclosed by him, he would have preferred forgoing the title, and seeing his father witness his achievements.

On Wednesday 4th January, 2023, history was made in the Onaje Quarters,Asaba, when Dr Dominic Okonta join the elitist elders’ club which is the Ogbueshi Ahaba. However, His Quarter discovered that something was missing in his life which he must achieve in order to further move higher. Considering this, the community found Dr Dominic Okonta worthy of Alor (Ogbueshi) title, and for him to accept it, without postponement, a town crier was assigned to announce the intention of the members of his traditional council, and the date of the ceremony.

According to Odogwu of Asaba,Obi Agbogidi Nwanze Nwa-Oduah, with Okonta’s excellent performance, developmental strides, very mature attitude and human dispositions, the people could no longer wait for him to grow up higher traditionally coupled with his status as an asset to the people of Onaje Quarters, and his kinsmen in particular.
Going down memory lane, we are reminded why the traditional history of Asaba says, that until and unless one becomes an Ogbueshi Ahaba, he remains strongly and very solidly a member of the community’s workforce, in order words, the person shall actively participate in all community’s menial jobs and youth’s group activities such a carrying of corpses/caskets and digging of graves during burial ceremonies as well as other community errands, among others.‘But today Ogbueshi Okonta escaped all these as he has really bought the exalted status of an elder in the community with his money as he can conveniently and comfortably sit in a meeting with elders in all traditional, customary and social occasions, take all vital decisions affecting the lives, welfare and development of his people as an accomplished community leader’’.

Before he clinched the title, Okonta diligently went through the traditional rigors which started with the customary preliminary hurdle, which is known as Igbu Egwu-Ogwa’’, which is the first part of the initiation process and determines his suitability, followed by other traditional matters including the official fixing of dates as well as provision of the statutory requirements needed to actualize the ambition of the aspirants.

As expected, he went through the five days traditional ceremony, which involves provision of hundreds of sizeable tubers of yams, cows, lavish cooking of foods and quantum supply of assorted drinks, Apart from payment of high impressively specified sums of money that makes the title an exclusive privilege for few persons who are capable as well as other prerequisites needed to make one an elder in the midst of others in the society.

NDDC: Onochie, Others Inaugurated As Chairman, Members of New Governing Board

After over three years of flip-flops, the federal government on Wednesday inaugurated the Governing Board of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC). The new board has as Chairman former aide to President Muhammadu Buhari, Mrs. Lauretta Onochie and Chief Samuel Ogbukwu as Managing Director.

The inauguration which is coming barely few months to the end of the tenure of the Buhari Administration, has been enmeshed in numerous crisis with pending court cases at the Federal High Court.

Inaugurating the board in Abuja, Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Mr Umana Umana, urged the board to immediately hit the ground running by implementing recommendations of the Report of the Forensic Audit of the Commission carried out in 2019.

Umana specifically charged the board to look into “allegations of irregular employment from 2019 and follow up on the ongoing personal audit in the Commission to make sure all cases of employment during the period under review were in accordance with extant rules and regulations of the service”.

Besides the minister stressed the need for the board and the management to strictly adhere by the procurement Act as well as the financial regulations to ensure prudence in the management of limited resources.

“Every contract above the threshold of management is to be referred to the Ministerial Tender Board of the Federal Executive Council.

“Any breach of contract approval limits will attract severe sanctions”.

Umana, who encouraged members to focus on the completion of ongoing, advised them to shun the lure of the “award of spurious and indiscriminate new contracts”, so as to help in repairing the negative public perception of the NDDC.

In a remarks, Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Mr Boss Mustapha, noted that the Inauguration of the new board would not have been possible without the collaboration of the National Assembly.

Mustapha, who was represented by a former Permanent Secretary, Mrs Habiba Lawal, accordingly charged members of the new board to bring all their expertise to bear to transform the lives and environment of the region.

He added that the board should endeavour to be transparent and follow due diligence in all its activities so as to restore the hope and resilience of the Niger Delta people in the Commission.

Meanwhile, new Chairman of the board, Ms Lauretta Onochie, has appealed to Nigerians especially people from the Niger Delta region to accord them the necessary support needed to deliver on their mandates.

She assured that the board has put in place a template for the speedy development of the socioeconomic development of the region.

While assuring of positive changes, Onochie noted that “we cannot continue to work with failed template and get a different result”.

She said, ” we are going to do things totally different so that the people of Niger Delta can benefit from what Nigeria has been investing in the region. In the past many investment in the Niger Delta have find its way to Abuja, London, Dubai and elsewhere “.

Onochie added that part of the new board’s goal is to change the narratives from the current situation where youths sought for Special Assistants (SAs) jobs to being employers of labour.

She added that the Buhari administration is committed to youth development and would do everything possible to equip youths in the region with necessary skills to compete with their peers from other climes.

Delta 2023: Omo- Agege Vows To End 24yrs Of Darkness In Nsukwa, Ogwashi-Uku

[dropcap]T[/dropcap]he Deputy President of the Senate, DSP and Governorship candidate of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in Delta State, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, on Wednesday, vowed to end 24 years perennial darkness in Nsukwa and Ogwashi-Uku clans in Aniocha South Local Government Area of the State.
Omo-Agege said when elected, his administration would established an independent power project at Ubu River Dam as part of measures in addressing the epileptic power supply in Delta North.

The state party chairman, Elder Omni Sobotie, also made a declaration at Nsukwa, Aniocha South LGA of Delta State, during the ongoing APC ward-to-ward campaigns for the 2023 general elections.

“It is a thing of shame that in 2015, Governor Ifeanyi Okowa came in the name of Anioma and having been given that opportunity, he wickedly punished the Anioma people by taking every development project to his hometown, Owa-Alero, at the expense of others.

“But don’t worry, his days are numbered, we have a good product which is very easy to market and they have a product that is still looking for his classmates,” he averred.

Speaking in the same vein, Nobert Sochokwudima, the Aniocha South APC Chairman, lamented that for the past 24 years, the Nsukwa clan has had no potable water, no roads, no electricity and expressed hope that with Senator Ovie Omo-Agege as governor, the challenges would be overcome.

In his remarks, Senator Omo-Agege, the governorship candidate of the APC in Delta State, said there was no reason why the Anioma people

enjoy what Okowa’s kinsmen in Owa-Alero enjoy.

“That selfishness, that wickedness, that punishment and despair he imposed on our people in Anioma must end.

“With all the revenue receipts and loans he took, amounting to over N3.5 trillion, Okowa criminally neglected infrastructure development of this area.

“The way to stop this evil is to get rid of Okowa and his stooge, Sheriff Oborevwori, as well as all the PDP candidates at the polls for failing to look Okowa in the eye to attract development projects to their areas.

“It is time to tell them pack and go, to tell Okowa that his ill-fated vice presidential ambition has crashed and that his stooge Oborevwori cannot be governor,” he declared.

Omo-Agege assured that when elected, he would ensure that the challenges enumerated by the people of Nsukwa are addressed. He announced the completion of the Ubu River Dam, which was built by the APC Federal Government, and promised that when elected, the state will generate 10 megawatts of electricity through the dam to power Aniocha North and Aniocha South, 24 hours, seven days in a week.

While urging the people of Delta North to support and re-elect Senator Peter Nwaoboshi, he said that Delta State stand the best chance of producing the next President of The Senate being the most ranking APC Senator from the South-South. He further stated that Delta would benefit more if it produce the next President of the Nigeria Senate because he would attract lots of development to the State.
“In 2015, Governor Okowa, who rose to power on the Anioma Agenda, promised prosperity for all Deltans but seven years later, Delta s are yet to see the prosperity he promised. Okowa administration failed The Anioma people and Deltan.
“It’s unimaginable that there are communities in Delta State, very close to the State Capital that are still in darkness for 24 years running.
“If you vote for us we will bring real prosperity to you, not the one of the “Judas Iscariot” of the South-South,” he said.

Buoyed by Omo-Agege’s impressive record, the traditional ruler of the Nsukwa clan, Obi Ezegbunem, said he was convinced that he would win the governorship of Delta State because, “what God cannot do, does not exist.”

The Obi conferred the chieftaincy titles of Ezinabeni and Ikemba of Nsukwa clan on Ovie Omo-Agege and his running mate, Hon Friday Osanebi, respectively.

At Ogwashi-Uku, the deputy coordinator of the APC campaigns in Aniocha South, Pastor Polycarp Kachikwu, said the people of Ogwashi-Uku are going to vote out the PDP because they are distressed, demeaned, neglected and punished by Okowa for nothing, and “so we don’t want to hear Ego-aria again.”

Pastor Kachikwu on behalf of the Ogwashi-Uku people presented a traditional mantle of power to “help Senator Omo-Agege to cross over every barrier and win the election.”

Speaking at Ubulu-Uku, Senator Omo-Agege said that in spite of the fact that the community had important names in the Okowa government, the community looked abandoned, neglected and in despair. We must come together to liberate Ubulu-Uku, Anioma and Delta State from the stranglehold of Okowa and his cronies.

“When elected, we will bring water, power and the basic amenities to this land. We will tackle the challenge of unemployment, we will tackle insecurity, we will tackle social challenges and bring back hope to the people,” he said.
Omo-Agege, accompanied by APC Deputy governorship candidate, Rt. Hon. Friday Osanebi, State Party Chairman, Elder Omeni Sobotie; Campaign DG, Elder Godsday Orubebe; Evangelist Moses Kamanya(Director General of SPONCO) ,Engr. Tuoyo Omatsuli; APC House of Representatives candidate in Aniocha /Oshimili Federal Constituency, Hon (Dr.) Tony Ide Nwaka; Aniocha South constituency APC candidate for the State House of Assembly, Prince Roster Izedunor,Barr. Alex Onwudiamu,(Deputy Chief of Staff to Deputy Senate President) and other top APC chieftains,  spoke during APC Ward -to- Ward APC campaign in Aniocha South.

Anioma nation rejects PDP, Okowa’s “MORE” Agenda

By: Ben Nwoko

[dropcap]T[/dropcap]he People of Anioma nation in Onicha-Ugbo, Issele-Uku and Onicha-Olona in Aniocha North LGA of Delta State have rejected the PDP and the much-hyped prosperity-for-all mantra of Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, saying it has had no positive impact on the lives of their people except in Owa Alero, Okowa’s hometown. The people made a bold statement, on Tuesday, November 29, when the ward-to-ward campaigns of the APC for the 2023 elections flagged off at Onicha-Ugbo, Aniocha North LGA of Delta State.

Addressing the mammoth crowd, Omo-Agege said he was not only excited at the rousing welcome by supporters who breached protocol and thronged to celebrate his presence, but also at the unity in the current Delta APC’s leadership. He said contrary to some persons insinuation that there was no APC in Delta North, that the Party is fully on ground and strongly united as one big family. Noting that the ability to come together after any disagreement is what makes one a leader.

Omo-Agege, who said the “Prosperity for all Deltans” Governor Okowa promised in 2015 is now only for his (Okowa) family, disclosed that the State Government has received over N2. 3trn, N340bn from PMB and also borrowed N400bn.

“Deltans , we all know that our state is owing  Debts that Okowa borrowed. So because of that, we Deltans are resolute and have agreed that we are not going to allowed Okowa to have a 3rd term through Sheriff Oborevwori”. He added.

He said all challenges ranging from unemployment, youths unrest, women empowerment and elevation, insecurities as well as roads construction and rehabilitation of both State and Federal roads and seek refund from Federal Government were addressed in the 2023 Campaign EDGE Agenda of the APC.

“We will intervene in failed Federal Roads and seek refund because Deltans are the ones using the roads. We will contract quality road contractors to construct our roads with negotiation for them to employ our youths thereby creating employment.

“We will harnessed the potentials and ingenuity of yahoo boys by engaging them in their best positive ways by asking them to develop apps and the State Government will be shareholder. By so doing, we are creating employment for our children.

“We will strengthen our women with meaningful empowerments and not fifty thousand naira starter packs empowerment they are giving our beloved women.” The Delta APC 2023 Governorship candidate stated.

Omo-Agege, who gave the assurance that his government will reduce insecurity to the barest minimum by addressing it’s causes, appealed to the people of Aniocha North to come out to vote for the APC 5/5 in the 2023 General Elections and they won’t regret it, that his Part deliberately chose to flagged-off campaign there.

He promised to reopen and make functional the shoe factory and vocation park built by Dr. Anthonia Ashiedu when she was Commissioner when elected Governor in 2023. That any move to sell it to cronies by the State Government would be resisted and even revoked when elected Governor of the Delta. come 2023

Rt. Hon. Victor Ochei and Dr. Tony Nwaka

“With Bola Ahmed Tinubu as President, a ranking Senator Peter Nwaoboshi as a principal officer in the Senate, Hon. Dr. Tony Nwaka in the House of Representatives and Bazim Sally Biose in the House of Assembly, it will be very easier for me to deliver to Deltans in all areas because me alone cannot do it all easily. Please vote for APC in all elections and you won’t regret it”. Omo-Agege stated.

Other speakers at the rally including Rt. Hon. Victor Ochei, Hon. Elder Godsday Orubebe, Engr. Omeni, Sobotie among others said Omo-Agege will bring a New Delta that Deltans need a Governor with a human heart.

Also commenting at Issele-Uku, Rt. Hon. Victor Ochei said they should not listen to those carrying rumour that he was no longer in APC that he was fully in the Party. And that he came out to campaign now because he wants to fully handover Aniocha House of Assembly seat to Bazim Sally Biose to attract good things to Aniocha North.

He said the person he handed over to was removed by court and that’s why Aniocha North has been suffering poor representation in the State Assembly.

While appealing to Aniocha North people to vote for Ovie Omo-Agege for his capacity and ability to perform better than anyone else, Rt. Hon. Victor Ochei said “I have known Omo-Agege from when we were young. He’s the one I trust that can give Delta State the best. I can go to him anytime to remind him of his promises to Aniocha North and he will give us what belongs to us.

Other notable personalities present at the rally were Rt. Hon. Friday Osanebi, immediate past Deputy Speaker of Delta State House of Assembly (DTHA) and Deputy Governorship candidate of the State APC, Chief Paulinus Akpeki, for Delta State Chief Of Staff and APC Chairman, Delta Central Senatorial District, Hon. Tuoyo Omatsuli, former NDDC Executive Director Project, Chief Dr. Anthonia Ashiedu, former Commissioner for Poverty Alleviation in Delta State among others.

Delta North APC Campaign train hit Akwukwu-Igbo, Asaba and Ogwashi-Uku

By: Ike Philip Abiagom

[dropcap]T[/dropcap]he Electorate in Oshimil North, Oshimili South and Aniocha South have over time demonstrated its unflinching resolve to identify with APC. That accounts for the bandwagon effect among politicians as the party is seen as the most viable vehicle for achieving political aspiration. Delta North electorate will not allow the PDP elements who come in the guise of messiahs, but are really traitors are grouping again. We must be vigilant, identify, name and point at them. They should be exposed and stopped so that they will not jeopardize us further.

The Delta North chapter of the APC party made efforts to convince the All Progressives Congress (APC)Deputy Governorship candidate Rt. Hon.Friday Osanebi and the entire members of Senator Peter Onyelukachukwu Nwaoboshi Campaign Organisation(SPONCO) during their visit to Akwukwu Igbo, Asaba and Ogwashi-Uku it was glaring that APC is in total control of the zone even though some observers believe that the 2023 election will be a keen contest between APC and his major opponent from the PDP.

Hence, people from all parts of the wards and beyond trooped to the venues for the event. It was a kind carnival in Akwu-Uku Igbo, Asaba and Ogwashi-Uku  as the teeming members of the party were  in different APC regalia danced to the expansive arena. The singers intermittently sang praises of Senator Peter Nwaoboshi, DSP Ovie Omo- Agege and all the APC candidates.

The rally also had in attendance the All Progressives Congress (APC)Deputy Governorship candidate Rt. Hon. Friday Osanebi, the entire members of Senator Peter Onyelukachukwu Nwaoboshi Campaign Organisation(SPONCO)Prof. Leroy Edozien(Chairman),Evangelist Moses Kamanya(Director General of SPONCO),Hon Adizue Eluaka, (Delta North Senatorial Chairman), APC Delta North Senatorial Chairman ,Chief Austin Izagbo, Hon. Ngozi Olejeme, Dr Tony Ide Nwaka,(House of Representative Candidate),Dr Ben Iwezue, Barr. Alex Onwudiamu,(Deputy Chief of Staff to Deputy Senate President)Hon. Sebastine Okoh, Hon. Henry Mordi aka Ojokojo, Chief Iyke Nwoko,(Iyke Computers) Hon. Austin Nnabuife, Austin Nwaoboshi, Hon. Rt. Hon.Friday Osanebi, expressed his pleasure and satisfaction to the people for the solidarity and attendance to this great occasion,as evidence in the big tour victory train that began from Akwukwu- Igbo,Asaba and finally stopped at Ogwashi-Uku, was formidable and copious.
He urged the electorate to vote for candidates of the party in the forthcoming general elections. Osanebi said that the APC had become stronger in the Delta North Constituency, following the resolution of the internal wrangling among its members and he urged all members to go into the general elections as a united family.

The Director General of Senator Peter Onyelukachukwu Nwaoboshi Campaign Organisation(SPONCO),Evangelist Moses Kamanya, said the rally was organised to galvanise support for Senator Peter Nwaoboshi, DSP. Ovie Omo-Agege, Hon.Tony Nwaka, Hon. Doris Oboh, Hon. Louis Ndukwe, Hon. Bazim Boise, Hon.Ekene Kery ,Hon. Festus Ofume and Hon. Sebastine Okoh, Prince Rister Izedunor, Hon. Ogbueshi Sualwze Eluaka.

Hon. Kamanya said that the rally and town hall meeting was an initiative from the people of Oshimil North, Oshimili South and Aniocha south because of what the governorship and Senatorial candidates have done in the senate in terms of quality representation , project, infrastructure, especially in Anioma land and Delta Central.
Delta North senatorial seat is not for a mediocre, therefore, anybody to occupy the position must have a catalogue of unprecedented antecedents and evidence of his contributions to the socio-economic development of the area.
Senator Peter Onyelukachukwu Nwaoboshi and DSP Ovie Omo-Agege,no doubt meet with these track-records that qualify them to seek the mandate to continue representing the good people of Anioma nation and Delta State, hence the clarion call on lovers of democracy to come out en masse and cast their votes for Senator Peter Onyelukachukwu Nwaoboshi for the Delta North Senatorial seat and Dsp. Ovie Omo-Agege for Governorship position.

The rally also had in attendance the entire APC Delta North local government chairmen to the ward level.

A NEW ERA OF HOPE FOR DELTA STATE WITH SENATOR OVIE OMO-AGEGE.

[dropcap]E[/dropcap]verything that decays becomes nourishment for a brand new life. Every ending is also a new beginning, and what is lost simply makes way for something meaningful to be found.

This is the exciting self fulfilling and revealing prophecy of hope and good governance that Obarisi, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege is bringing to Deltans as we move closer to the end of high-handedness, tribalistic, parochial, nepotistic and insensitive administration of the PDP in Delta State.

His impending ascension to the Governorship seat of Delta State bodes well for the people. It is an exciting time in the history for our dear State as the winds of change comes with a breathe of fresh air.

This is good news for us and a great window of opportunity that can be utilised in a positive manner as Delta State will witness human-capital, socio-economic and infrastructural turn around.

Obarisi, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege comes with a strong development plan to Build A New Delta (BAND) with a large, strong, diversified, sustainable and competitive economy that will effectively harness the talents, energies and resources of our people.

He will be ushering a new era of hope, unity and healing far from the deep resentment brought by the current PDP led administration, and responsibly exploits our natural endowments to guarantee a high standard of living and quality of life of our people.

His leadership style will be characterized by transparency, accessibility, openness, inclusiveness, and a willingness to collaborate with stakeholders to find a lasting solutions to the enormous problems troubling Delta State.

There is no doubt that Delta State is at that critical stage where it cannot afford the luxury of electing a clueless Governor whose policies will be based on the false tales of street credibility funneled through by the erroneous trial of deliberate mediocrity.

You will agree with me that the political life of Senator Ovie Omo-Agege has been a repetition of experiences and themes that have enabled him to see beyond the immediate future, and has brought that experience to inspire hope and change for a better Delta.

Bouquet of Birthday in Honour of A Man with his Pillars in the Grassroots

By: Ike Philip Abiagom

Comrade ( Hon.)Peter Okocha
APC Youths Leader,
Oshimili North LGA

[dropcap]“G[/dropcap]reatness is a property for which no man can receive credit too soon; it must be possessed long before it is acknowledged.”When one of the world’s greatest thinkers, Ralph Waldo Emerson handed down the above words of wisdom, those he had in mind were certainly the likes of Hon.Peter Okocha aka BOBO NKITI.
For the trail-blazing Political mogul par excellence from Ibusa, Delta State, it is certainly impossible to gloss over his attributes for greatness. Hon. Peter Okocha is a man of qualities, he is a father, grassroots man and a Political Juggernaut, He is a grassroots mobilizer, philanthropist, and a man of integrity.

Hon. Peter Okocha is the APC youths leader of Oshimili North till date, he means different things to different people; to his children, he is a kind dad, while to us his admirers he is known as the political Youths mobilizer of our time, the Political Strategist but his detractors always erroneously see him as an Obstacle because of his rising profile and acceptance by the grassroots.

Hon. Peter Okocha is not only the Pride of Oshimili North but also the Pride of the All Progressive Congress (APC)for whom he had waged countless political wars for and won virtually all, just like the Greek mythological Odyssey who fought and won difficult battle in History, the grassroots Youths mobilizer of our time also fought and won many battles even those considered as herculean in nature for his people and party leaders.

He is a vibrant young man who started his political career from the grassroots, who is solidly rooted and grounded and he has successfully served in various capacities. He has really voiced out and fought for his people’s common goals, He remains the only youths leader of Oshimili North who knows the plight, feelings and desires of his People and Youths. Hon. Peter Okocha has achieved alot within the period of his appointment and he has been able to touch the lives of the Youths like never before and also proved himself a force to reckon with among frontline players of our state politics.

Indeed the birthday celebration of this Youths mobilizer of our time had been useful and Resourceful, using the investment of his personality for services to humanity. Therefore today let me on behalf the SPON Political family join the rest of Oshimili North LGA, Deltans and Nigerians at large to Celebrate our iconoclastic Hon. Peter Okocha ,“we join your family, friends and well-wishers to thank Almighty God for your life and to pray that He continues to bless you with robust health and imbue you with His continued guidance, protection, and enduring provision.” We Wish you many more years to the service of humanity.

Cheers !!!You’re older today than yesterday but younger than tomorrow. Happy Birthday the Youth Boss!

World Diabetes Day: The Light Diabetes Organisation moves to create awareness on disease management in Delta

By: Ike Philip Abiagom

[dropcap]O[/dropcap]ver 10m Nigerians have diabetes, kills more than COVID-19, cancer. As Nigerians join the rest of the world to observe this year  World Diabetes Day (WDD), The Light Diabetes Organisation has warned that over 10 million Nigerians are living with the disease presently.

As the World Diabetes Day is marked globally by the International Diabetes Federation (IDF) and the World Health Organisation (WHO) on November 14 every year, experts are worried that no fewer than six million Nigerians – one in ten adults – are living with diabetes, even as the numbers are expected to double by 2030, with the nation facing a situation akin to a “ticking time bomb.”

The theme of this year’s celebration – “Access to Diabetes Care,” is aimed at raising awareness around the fact that millions of people living with diabetes around the world do not have access to diabetes care. Diabetic patients require ongoing care and support to manage their condition and avoid complications. Nine in 10 of diabetics have the Type 2 variant, a lifestyle disease linked to obesity and unhealthy living. The Type 1 variant is an unpreventable autoimmune disease that develops at childhood. As part of activities to mark the 2022 World Diabetes Day (WDD), The Light Diabetes Organisation, a private organisation with a focus on the management of diabetes and other endocrine and metabolism conditions, gave free diabetes screening and education for the public.

The theme for diabetes awareness month and World Diabetes Day 2022 is “Access to Diabetes Care,” which The Light Diabetes Organisation says remains its core activity in its efforts to provide quality care for Nigerians living with diabetes while also creating awareness of its growing increase in the country.

“We are, therefore, encouraging everyone including people living with diabetes and their family members to seize the opportunity of this exercise to know their status and how to care for people living with the condition.

“It’s also an opportunity for people to know their status, especially given findings that 1 out of every 2 persons living with diabetes do not know they have it. Yet, early detection of diabetes remains crucial in the prevention of deadly complications,” the statement read in parts.

It further noted that persons with uncontrolled diabetes would develop a wide range of complications linked with the disease, some of which could lead to lengthy hospital stays, blindness, foot amputation or death.

According to The Light Diabetes Organisation, they want people living with diabetes to know that it can be controlled and should not be allowed to result in the numerous complications associated with it.

“The exercise serve as an avenue for them to have their feet checked to prevent the growing problem of diabetes. Not only that, it also provide access to basic information on how to live with the condition and stay healthy all year round”, the statement further said.
