Customs FOU, Zone ‘A’ generates N356M in one week

[dropcap]T[/dropcap]he Federal Operations Unit (FOU) Zone ‘A’ of Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), has continued to strengthened its enforcement capacity to ensure that no stone is left unturned in the rage against smuggling in the zone. The Comptroller Mohammed Uba led proactive team has continued to clampdown on unrepentant smugglers who are working for personal gains, to the detriment of our economy. Compt. Mohammed has been building on the performance of FOU zone ‘A’ in the areas of core Customs functions, with a view to stimulating economic growth and development.
The Customs Area Controller of the command, the Federal Operations Unit (FOU) Zone ‘A’, Compt. Mohammed Uba recently gave a score card of the command’s activities from 29th of August – 3rd of October 2017.

The seized items within the period under review include: 11 used vehicles, 4,227 bags of foreign parboiled rice, frozen poultry products, vegetable oil, Indian Hemp, medicaments, used tyres, scrap metals, wet blue, electric cables, unprocessed wood, bales of used clothing and shoes respectively with a duty paid value (DPV) of Three Hundred and Fifty Six Million, Two Hundred and Five Thousand, Fifty Naira, Seventy Eight kobo  only (N 356,205,050.78).

Compt. Mohammed has always strategized and re-strategized to ensure that areas of revenue leakages is identified and blocked, and any attempt by an importer/and or his agent to circumvent the process is viewed seriously. He has always assured all honest declarants of the Command’s readiness to facilitate trade in line with global best practices.The Command is determined and poised to forge a better synergy and collaboration with the critical stakeholders and other Sister Agencies for the implementation of the Fiscal Policies of the Federal Government to ensure zero tolerance for false declaration or other deliberate infractions.

Ali Hameed (Rtd) administration has always focused on repositioning the Service and appreciating the effort of officers in bursting the antics of economic saboteurs with different methods of concealment. This has in no small way contributed to an increase in revenue generation recorded in various customs commands across the nation in recent times.
