[dropcap]J[/dropcap]unior Chamber International, a non profit organisation, is a worldwide Federation of young men and women with active participation in Leadership roles and entrepreneurship development, was founded by Henry Giessembier in 1915 but officially became Junior Chamber International on December 11, 1944.The Nigerian affiliate was founded by otunba Bola Adewumi on March 9,1957 while the Port Harcourt chapter was founded by Mr Tunde Arogunmati in 1983.
The Tokyu Grand Hotel, Stadium Road, Port Harcourt was agog as JC Anastasia Ezewudo-Obasi, bows out as the 8th President of the Junior Chamber International, (JCI), Garden City Chapter, and JC Blessing Anyawa gets inducted as the 9th President of the organisation.
The true worth of a man is in the way he treats people who are absolutely in need. If you care about people in need, you are actually making a contribution to the development of the nation. We need to give life back to the people. We need to see how we can use the available resources and talents to create opportunities for all, especially for those who are truly in need. This is exactly what plays out whenever the likes of JC Ezewudo Anastasia-Obasi are mentioned. The supreme quality for leadership is unquestionably integrity. Without it, no real success is possible, no matter whether it is on a section gang, a football field, in an army, or in an office.” These words of Dwight Eisenhower aptly captured the life of this young woman whose has made tremendous impacts in economic development in communities through creation of positive opportunities, address of health, education, skills and environmental issues during her one year in office.
The event drew dignitaries from far and near.The Jaycees came with their family members for the once-in-a-year event.They looked resplendent in their attires.Pleasantries were exchanged as guests crept into the hall.The hall was beautifully decorated in various colours.
In her speech, she appreciated notable personalities, and fellow Jaycees who have contributed in one way or the other to make her administration’s theme “Make it Count” work.
She maintained that Integrity brought her this far and advised members to always live an exemplary life in whatever positions they may find themselves. Some personalities who collaborated with the Garden city chapter for a sustainable development in communities were honoured on that day too.
