Delta State Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Mr. Charles Aniagwu, has been named the 2026 Media Icon of the Year by the Board of Management of the Delta Icons of Goodwill Awards (DIGA) in recognition of his outstanding contributions to public communication, transparency in governance, and infrastructural development across the state.
The announcement was made by the Co-founder of the Delta Icons of Goodwill Awards, Mr. Onajite Malcolm Tagbarah, who described Aniagwu as an exceptional public servant whose dedication to effective communication and service delivery has distinguished him in public office.
According to Tagbarah, Aniagwu has successfully balanced his dual responsibilities as Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and spokesman for the Delta State Government, ensuring that government policies, programmes, and achievements are effectively communicated to the people.
He noted that Aniagwu’s background in journalism and media practice has equipped him with the skills required to foster transparency, accountability, and meaningful public engagement, while also overseeing the implementation of key rural road projects under Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s MORE Agenda.
The award organisers stated that through regular interactions with the media and active supervision of infrastructure projects, Aniagwu has strengthened public confidence in government by providing clear information on policies and development initiatives.
They described him as “the voice that builds and the builder who speaks,” noting that he has demonstrated that good governance extends beyond physical infrastructure to include building trust and maintaining open communication between government and citizens.
The organisers further observed that whether inspecting projects across Delta State’s 25 local government areas or addressing journalists on government activities, Aniagwu has consistently promoted people-centred governance, transparency, and accountability.
According to the Board of Management of DIGA, his leadership style reflects the belief that effective governance is measured not only by the projects executed but also by how clearly government communicates its vision and fulfils its commitments to the people.
Aniagwu is expected to receive the prestigious award during the 2026 Delta Icons of Goodwill Awards ceremony scheduled to hold on July 26, 2026, at the Times Event Center, Sapele, Delta State.
The organisers said the recognition celebrates his enduring impact on public communication, rural infrastructure development, and his role in advancing the Oborevwori administration’s MORE Agenda through sustained engagement with residents across Delta State.
