The Rector of Delta State Polytechnic, Ogwashi-Uku (DSPG), Builder Professor Emmanuel Achuenu, has applauded the Students’ Union Government (SUG) of the institution for aligning with management’s three-point agenda, which focuses on infrastructural development, peace on campus, and the strengthening of academic standards.

Professor Achuenu gave the commendation while inaugurating a 100-seater ultra-modern lecture hall constructed by the SUG under the leadership of Comrade Christian Eruru, as well as unveiling a Toyota Corolla vehicle, popularly referred to as the “Aluta Jet,” procured by the union.

The Rector praised the Eruru-led SUG for standing firmly with management, even amid challenges such as certificate racketeering allegations and petitions aimed at undermining confidence in the institution’s integrity. He attributed the prevailing peaceful atmosphere on campus to the strong collaboration between management and the students’ leadership.

Highlighting the institution’s progress since he assumed office in 2021, Achuenu noted DSPG’s steady advancement in technological innovation, research, and skills development. He affirmed that the polytechnic has fully embraced the “One Student, Two Certificates” initiative — a globally recognized standard in polytechnic education.

According to him, all DSPG programmes have received full accreditation and certification approval, a milestone he described as a testament to the institution’s academic strength.

Professor Achuenu commended the SUG for its transparency, prudent resource management, and shared vision with management, describing the union leaders as true ambassadors of the institution’s development ideals.

He further revealed that the polytechnic has witnessed a major facelift, with new internal roads constructed under the Okowa administration, and the installation of solar-powered streetlights through TETFUND and the Delta State Government. He added that the ongoing NDDC solar power project will further enhance campus illumination upon completion.

The Rector also announced that projects such as the rehabilitation of the administrative block, the Fine and Applied Arts complex with an art gallery, the provision of lecture hall furniture, and the completion of the perimeter fencing are currently underway.

In his remarks, the Dean of Students’ Affairs, Mr. Franklin Agetue, expressed gratitude to management for its continuous support despite inflationary challenges affecting project costs. He also lauded the SUG executives for their dedication and supervision of the project from start to finish.

Speaking during the ceremony, the SUG President, Comrade Christian Eruru, appreciated Professor Achuenu and the Dean of Students’ Affairs for their support, describing the new lecture hall as a lasting legacy of his administration’s commitment to the management’s development vision.

The inauguration ceremony, attended by management staff led by the Deputy Rector, Mrs. Joy Erere Anho, as well as the NADESSTU DSPG Chapter President, Comrade Clark Peter, and other enthusiastic students, also featured the commissioning of the “Aluta Jet” and the unveiling of a commemorative plaque to mark the event.
