As public debate continues over allegations involving the Chief of Staff to the President, Rt. Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, concerned political observers and stakeholders have urged Nigerians to allow due process and independent investigations to take their course before drawing conclusions.
The call follows a series of allegations and counter-allegations circulating across traditional and social media platforms, with some opposition figures demanding the resignation of the former Speaker of the House of Representatives.
Grassroots publishers and Political commentators argue that every public official is entitled to the constitutional presumption of innocence until proven guilty by competent authorities. They maintain that allegations, regardless of their source, should be thoroughly investigated by relevant security and anti-corruption agencies before any judgment is made.
According to available reports, a certain Prince Adeniyi Adeyemi was accused of allegedly parading himself as the Director-General of two purported Federal Government bodies — the Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council (PFIPC) and the Presidential Economic Advisory Council (PEAC). Questions surrounding the legitimacy of the organizations reportedly emerged after concerns were raised by the Nigerian Investment Promotion Commission (NIPC) and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Reports indicate that when scrutiny intensified, Adeyemi allegedly linked the formation of the organizations to the Chief of Staff.
However, the Presidency firmly denied any connection between Gbajabiamila and the entities. It was further reported that the Chief of Staff petitioned security agencies, including the Department of State Services (DSS) and the Nigeria Police Force, requesting a comprehensive investigation into the activities of Adeyemi and his associates.
Following investigations, law enforcement authorities arrested the suspects and subsequently arraigned them before the Federal High Court in Abuja on charges including alleged forgery and impersonation.
The Presidency, through the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Mr. Bayo Onanuga, maintained that Gbajabiamila never issued any appointment letter to Adeyemi and had no involvement in the operations of the alleged organizations. Officials further alleged that forged documents were used to open multiple bank accounts and conduct activities that created the impression of official government authorization.
Political analysts note that Gbajabiamila remains one of the most prominent figures in the current administration, having previously served as Speaker of the House of Representatives before his appointment as Chief of Staff to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
His political profile and influence within government circles have continued to attract both supporters and critics.
Grassroots Publishers have also reacted to fresh allegations concerning the alleged diversion of approximately ₦52 billion from an oil and gas regulatory institution. The allegation has become the subject of political debate and public discussion, with critics calling for an independent investigation.
According to media reports, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and other concerned stakeholders have called for a thorough probe into claims that funds generated by the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) were improperly allocated through directives allegedly linked to the Office of the Chief of Staff.
However, reports also indicate that the Presidency has defended Gbajabiamila’s role, maintaining that any actions taken were in line with presidential directives and established government policies.
The Presidency reportedly argued that the funds in question were designated for specific oil and gas metering and transparency initiatives rather than for personal benefit.
Grassroots Publishers insist that the allegations should be subjected to rigorous scrutiny by appropriate authorities and not determined in the court of public opinion. They emphasize that allegations alone do not constitute proof of wrongdoing and that only a credible investigation can establish the facts.
Many observers believe that President Tinubu, known for relying on institutional processes, will make decisions based on verified evidence and the outcome of official investigations rather than public pressure or speculation. They argue that the integrity of democratic governance requires that all citizens, including public office holders, be afforded fair hearing and due process.
As investigations continue, Grassroots Publishers have urged the public to avoid speculation and allow security agencies and relevant institutions to carry out their responsibilities professionally, ensuring that justice is served in accordance with the law.
