The Director-General of the Delta State Capital Territory Development Agency (DSCTDA), Mr. Patrick Ukah, has reaffirmed the commitment of the Delta State Government to tackling flooding challenges in Asaba and enhancing infrastructure development across the state capital.

Ukah made this known on Tuesday during an inspection tour of the ongoing construction of flood control measures at Ogbeilo/Ugbomanta Streets, including a discharge drainage channel extending through Ogbeogonogo Market to Otuogwu Bay.

The project, considered one of the most significant flood mitigation initiatives within the Delta State Capital Territory, is designed to address recurring flooding in Ogbeilo, Ogbeogonogo and adjoining communities, particularly during the rainy season.

Speaking after inspecting the project, Ukah described the intervention as a complex but vital undertaking aimed at improving stormwater management and safeguarding residents from the devastating effects of flooding.
He expressed satisfaction with the pace and quality of work, noting that the drainage system would help reduce flood incidents, protect lives and property, and improve environmental sanitation within the capital city.

According to him, adequate safety measures would be put in place upon completion of the project, including the installation of barricades and caution signs around deep manholes to prevent accidents and discourage indiscriminate dumping of refuse into the drainage network.

The DSCTDA boss also visited the site of the ongoing Ogbeogonogo Modern Market project, which he said would enhance commercial activities, improve accessibility and provide a more conducive environment for traders.
Ukah disclosed that traders currently operating along the streets would be relocated into the newly constructed market stalls upon completion of the project, a move aimed at restoring orderliness and ensuring free movement of vehicles and pedestrians within the area.

As part of the inspection exercise, he toured several other infrastructure projects across the Capital Territory, including the construction of Ogochukwu Mowers/Prince Nwanne Street and Bepof Lane in Asaba; completed roads within Olikili Layout such as Mike Arinze Street, Ezeweani Way, Tony Bakaso Street, Trust in God Lane and Emma Obiokolo Street, including a spur connecting Two Close off Ibusa Road; the construction of Chris Abudei Street/Ogbueshi M. Onochie Street; and the reconstruction of Asaba Palace Road off Nnebisi Road by UBA, Phase II.

Ukah commended contractors handling the various projects for their dedication and urged them to maintain high standards and adhere strictly to project timelines.
He reiterated that the administration of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori remains committed to delivering sustainable infrastructure that will improve the quality of life of residents and stimulate economic growth in line with the state’s MORE Agenda.
