Housewife abducted while jogging in Sangotedo area of Ajah

[dropcap]A [/dropcap]housewife, Gbemisola Alabi, was on Sunday morning abducted while jogging in Sangotedo area of Ajah, Lagos State. The kidnappers were said to have rode close to Alabi and other members of her jogging group and made a grab for them.
The armed men shot sporadically as they attempted to grab the joggers. While others scampered in different directions, the men successfully grabbed Alabi, bundled her into their tricycle and disappeared.
The incident was said to have occurred at about 6am along Monastery Road, near Shoprite.
Eyewitnesses claimed that as the kidnappers were fleeing after successfully kidnapping Alabi, they continued shooting sporadically, scaring people from making attempt to rescue her.

The victim’s elder sister, Aderonke Adebayo, said it was unfortunate that her sister was kidnapped.
Adebayo explained that Alabi was not the only person jogging at the scene when the kidnappers arrived.
According to her, her sister left her home at Sangotedo early in the morning to participate in the exercise with other neighbours before she would prepare for church, but she ended up being kidnapped.
Adebayo said: “My sister was the only person that was abducted by the kidnappers.
“When other people, who were jogging with her, tried to rescue her from the abductors, the kidnappers started shooting.
“The kidnappers came in a tricycle.
“We reported the matter at Ogombo Police Station.
“The police promised to rescue and return her to us safely.
“As I speak with you, some of our family members and I were at Ogombo Police Station to know the level of what they had done to bring her back, but police said they were still investigating.
“I have been receiving phone calls from people who said that they heard that the kidnappers have released my sister, but it’s not true.
“My sister has not been released.”
The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Bala Elkana, denied that Alabi was kidnapped.
According to Elkana, it was a case of a missing person.
He said: “The woman left home and didn’t retune.
“Nobody knew why she did not return home.
“It was her family that went to Ogombo Police Station to report a case of a missing person.
“It was also stated that she had issued with her landlady.
“We have invited the landlady for questioning and investigation is ongoing to get to the root of the matter.”

It’s Insulting For National Assembly To Give Obaseki Ultimatum – Okorocha blasts Senate

[dropcap] F[/dropcap]ederal lawmaker representing Imo West, Senator Rochas Okorocha, on Tuesday said it is an insult for the National Assembly to issue an ultimatum to Governor Godwin Obaseki on the crisis rocking the Edo State House of Assembly. According to Okorocha, “It is like we are eager to take over the Edo State House of Assembly. Looking at the report of both the party and the facts, it looks like a family affair of APC which the leadership of APC should find a way to solve”.

“There is no proof whatsoever that the Edo State House of Assembly is not functioning”. We can’t be talking of three weeks ultimatum if the governor does not do that. I was once a governor. It is not proper for us to say if governor does not issue a fresh proclamation, we are going to take over the Assembly.

“So I think we should look into this before we bring ourselves to ridicule by interfering in a matter we shouldn’t have interfered in” he said.

Senate committee set up to look into the circumstances surrounding the inauguration of Edo State Assembly submitted its report today and faulted the method of the inauguration by Governor Godwin Obaseki and recommended that he issues a fresh proclamation before one week or risk the take over the state Assembly by senate.

New Anambra CP suspends three policemen over extortion

[dropcap]T[/dropcap]he visions of John B. Abang, the new Anambra State Police Commissioner, to rid the State of criminal activities and terror gangs may not take long before their fruition. This is because the new CP has since hit the ground running.
In his bid to sanitize the Anambra State Police Command and thoroughly reform it, Abang has read the riot act to dubious officers and men who are fond of receiving bribes from the public and gratifications before they grant bail to suspects in their custody.
Abang, upon resuming as CP, warned his men and officers not to extort or collect money before granting bail on bailable offences. However, three policemen have been arrested and undergoing investigation for extorting money from one Love Mbachu and two others.
Responding to the development in a short message to PRNigeria, the police spokesperson in Anambra, Haruna Mohammed, said “Following the report that Policemen attached to Ogidi Area Command allegedly extorted the sum of N60,000 from one Mrs.. Love Mbachu, the Commissioner of Police, CP John B. Abang, directed Acp X SDQ to investigate and recover the money within 12 hours.
“In compliance with the CP’s directives, the Policemen involved have been arrested and the sum of N60,000 recovered, and handed over to the victims. Meanwhile, all cases are under investigation after which the defaulters would be tried in orderly room.”
The new police boss has paid a familiarization tour to sister security agencies and other critical institutions in the State to solicit their supports and robust partnerships.
Abang has urged the public to forward their complaints to his office for prompt security action on criminal activities in the state.

‘Okowa Should give Account For ‘N1.15tn Allocation to Delta’, says Orubebe

[dropcap]T[/dropcap]he former Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Elder Godsday Peter Orubebe has challenged the governor of  Delta State, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa to give full account and details of how he spent N1.15 trillion the state received from the federal government as well as from its Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) in the last 50 months.

The People’s Democratic Party ( PDP) stalwart who demanded that Okowa should prove his accountability and judicious application of the said fund with particular reference  to each ethnic community in the state said, he has engaged the services of some consultants to value the works Okowa has done in the state within the period under review.

Recall that Elder Orubebe recently slammed his Party, the main opposition to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), as being  filled with ungrateful and sadistic people.

The former minister, who accused many of  them of engaging in very damaging conducts  had then threatened that ,”One day we shall come out to call names with facts and history. PDP is a party that kills the spirit of loyalty, love and commitment.”

His latest outburst is therefore coming less than ten  days after his threat to name those tarnishing the party’s image.According to Leadership report on Monday, the former minister, apparently reacting to criticisms trailing his earlier remarks, where he accused the governor of sidelining his ethnic Ijaw people in the state, vowed he would not be deterred by such criticisms.

According to him, “In Nigeria most of the times the people you want to fight and protect, unfortunately are gullible in most of the cases. Illiteracy and poverty are largely responsible for this challenge.

Orubebe said, “I want gov Okowa to tell the people of Delta State how he spent N1.15trillion with particular reference to each ethnic community in Delta State.

“I have already engaged the services of some consultants to value the works he has done in Delta State in the last 50 months. I am sure that Deltans will be pleased to know the outcome of this verification exercise.

“Very soon we shall also come out to tell the people of Delta state about ”Okowa before he became governor, Okowa after 50 months as a person and as a government”, he said

FG cannot imposed RUGA on states —Ganduje

[dropcap]K[/dropcap]ano State governor, Dr Umar Ganduje, has described RUGA settlement project as a programme that should be initiated by any interested state and not be imposed. The governor added that RUGA should not have been the programme of the Federal Government but rather of any state interested in taking care of Fulani herdsmen.

Ganduje stated this while addressing reporters in Sokoto after attending the wedding ceremony of the son of a former governor of Kano State, Senator Kabiru Gaya, in Sokoto on Saturday.

According to him, “I think they suspended a programme which was not truly understood. RUGA is supposed to be for a state where Fulanis are resident. You cannot implement RUGA where the indigenes are not Fulanis.

“That is why in Kano State, we decided to develop grazing area in form of RUGA system where the Fulani will be in one place and can be educated.

“They will get all other social services that are being provided for the people of Kano State which include health, security and justice, so that the type that they are doing could be improved upon in order to produce more nutritious milk for the people.

“There is no better way we can resettle the Fulani people than the provision of RUGA system. There is no better way you can improve the quality of life of the people, otherwise the Fulani people will be suffering and the security problems will continue.

“I am not happy at the way they are being treated in the country. At the same time, I am not happy at their lack of education, which is graduating into banditry. I am not happy.”
