Chief Akogun died on Monday from the injury he suffered from the attacks by the thugs.
The Nation learnt that the late traditional ruler was attacked on Saturday and suffered deep machete cuts on his head, hands, and face.
Another resident who was severely injured in the fracas is said to still be receiving treatment at a hospital.
The late traditional ruler was recently installed as the Akogun of Ado kingdom.
He was said to have attempted to prevent some hoodlums who invaded the community from wreaking havoc, last Saturday before he was attacked.
The Nation learnt that the hoodlums came to avenge the beating of their colleague by some members of the community.
An eyewitness said a fire razed some shanties in Abule-Ado last Friday. While owners of the affected shanties were trying to salvage their property, some miscreants hijacked the situation and stole some of the property.
One of them was said to have been caught with a television set, which he was taking to his end.
Some of the residents, who were miffed by his action, reportedly beat him and collected the stolen television set from him.
But the hoodlum escaped and went to mobilise his members who invaded the community.
The late Akogun, who was at a naming at Shibiri, was said to have left the function for Abule-Ado, when informed of the incident.
He was said to have also put a call to one Lawal, said to be influential among the hoodlums.
According to the Otun of Ado, Afeez Olorunkemi, “the incident happened while Chief Akogun was pleading with Akeem Lawal to call his boys to order. He stood in front of Ado youth office when we sighted the hoodlums approaching. Since Lawal, their coordinator had assured us that there was no cause for alarm; we stayed back, unknown to us that they had a sinister motive. They got so close to us and started attacking us.
“When they launched their attack, Lawal simply walked straight to his vehicle and drove off without cautioning his boys.
“Another person, Prince Fasiu was attacked inside the toilet where he ran into for safety. Fasiu was hiding under the washing hand basin when one of the hoodlums attacked him and another victim. They were stabbed and macheted on different parts of their bodies.

President Buhari In South Africa To Mend Fences After Attacks On Foreigners
[dropcap]N[/dropcap]igeria’s president on Thursday described as “unacceptable” the recent deadly attacks on foreigners in South Africa that angered many African countries and led to an extraordinary airlift of Nigerians, while South Africa’s leader said “early warning mechanisms” will be put in place to avoid further violence.
Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari’s visit with South African President Cyril Ramaphosa was a meeting of Africa’s two largest economies, with more than $3.3 billion in trade between them in 2018. The unrest saw businesses targeted in both countries.
South Africa has been making efforts to mend ties with Nigeria and others after its government faced criticism for not explicitly speaking out against xenophobia at first but instead framing the violence as crime.
Ramaphosa on Thursday again stressed the need for immigrants to obey local laws but called the xenophobia “regrettable.”
More than 12 people were killed and more than 700 arrested after bands of South Africans in Johannesburg and the capital, Pretoria, launched attacks against foreign-owned shops and stalls, looting and burning the small businesses and attacking some shopkeepers.
Nigeria’s foreign minister called the attacks “sickening” and the government recalled its high commissioner to South Africa. South Africa temporarily closed its diplomatic missions in Nigeria, citing concerns over staff safety.
In Nigeria’s megacity Lagos, operations of South African telecommunications giant MTN were targeted in retaliatory attacks.
South Africa’s president now says his government is “totally committed” against attacks on foreign nationals. He acknowledges frustration about the country’s high unemployment and sluggish economy but has told countrymen not to take it out on foreigners.
It was not immediately clear how the “early warning mechanisms” to avoid further unrest would work between South Africa and Nigeria. Buhari said police and intelligence forces in both countries should be alert to avoid further violence.
Outbreaks of violence against Nigerians and citizens of other African nations have regularly erupted in South Africa in recent years, with some South Africans accusing foreigners of peddling illegal drugs or taking jobs.
The attacks on Nigerians have led to growing sentiments against South African companies doing business in Nigeria, with many people calling for their closure.
“Relations between our two countries are very strong and we want to welcome more businesses from Nigeria to come here,” Ramaphosa said.
The periodic violence against foreigners in South Africa is in sharp contrast to the hospitality that other African nations showed to black South Africans during their long fight against the harsh system of white minority rule known as apartheid, which ended in 1994.

FG Announces Plan To Return Toll Gates On Federal Highways
[dropcap]T[/dropcap]he Federal Government on Wednesday announced plans to ensure the return of toll gates on federal highways in the country. The decision came after being phased out more than a decade ago.

Fashola, flanked by the Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, said there was no law that stopped the government from having toll gate on federal roads.
He said, “There is no reason why we can’t toll, there was a policy of government to abolish tolls or as it where, dismantle toll plaza but there is no law that prohibits tolling in Nigeria today. We expect to return toll plazas, we have concluded their designs of what they will look like, what materials they will be rebuilt with, what new considerations must go into them.
“What we are looking at now and trying to conclude is how the bank end runs.”
Fashola said that government was also considering to eliminate payment of cash by introducing electronic mode of payment.
Minimum Wage: Labour Issues 7-Day Ultimatum to FG to Conclude Action
[dropcap]T[/dropcap]he leadership of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union (TUC) has given federal government till next week Wednesday to reconvene and conclude negotiation on consequential adjustment for the new minimum wage.
In a communiqué issued at the end of a meeting between NLC, TUC and the Joint National Public Service Negotiating Council (JNPSNC-Trade Union Side) in Abuja on Wednesday, the labour movement rejected the offer by government for salary adjustment of 11 percent for public workers on salary grade level 07 – 14 and 6.5 percent consequential increase for public workers on grade level 15 – 17.
.It said that the proposal was not realistic and therefore not acceptable to the workers.
“We demand the reconvening of the meeting of the committee negotiating the consequential adjustment with a view to concluding the process that started on May 28, 2019, within one week,” labour said.
In the communiqué, organised labour reeled out economic indices which it said had watered down workers’ pay package since the previous N18,000 minimum wage was Implemented.
The communiqué was jointly signed by the NLC president, Comrade Ayuba Wabba, TUC president, Quadri Olaleye and JNPSNC, chairman, Simon Anchaver, and Secretary, Slade Bashir Lawal.
Labour said since the last national minimum wage of N18,000, workers had suffered astronomical hike in the prices of essential goods and services.
Furthermore, it said petroleum price had been hiked from N87 per litre to N145 per litre, a 60 percent price increase.
It also said that electricity had been increased by 60 percent while Value Added Tax recently increased from.5 percent to 7.2 percent.
Labour blamed the government negotiating team for its insensitivity to the sacrifices being made by Nigerian workers, adding that such uncooperative attitude had led to the delay in reaching a deal on the implementation of the minimum wage.

“Fellow Deltans, I like to use this opportunity to sympathize with communities and individuals, particularly those who are suffering various degrees of setbacks following consistent flooding these past few years during rainy season.
“I need to re-emphasize that those still in flood prone areas should relocate to higher grounds.
“We are committed to checking future occurrences through the institution of modern planning regimes for cities and the construction of drainage systems and embankment in the riverine areas of the State.
“I therefore, appeal to all residents to avoid building houses and kiosks in unauthorized places to avoid blockage of natural water-ways, with its attendant disasters.

New Ogbogonogo International Market with over 1,412 lock up shops nears completion.-Mrakpor

[dropcap]C[/dropcap]ommercial activities in Asaba, the Delta State, is set to get a major boost as the new wing of the Ogbogonogo International Market with over 1,412 lock up shops nears completion.
Already, subscription to the shops is recording remarkable response from the business community with the Delta State government pledging to use the market as a launch pad to transfer Asaba into a major commercial and business hub, leveraging on its proximity with other commercial centres in the southeast.
The Director General, Delta State Capital Territory Development Agency, Hon. Mrs. Joan Onyemaechi Mrakpor, stated this while on an inspection tour of the project site.
Conducting Mrakpor round the site, the contractor handling the project under public-private partnership, Chief Ekwe Ogidi, said apart from the 1,412 lock-up stores, an open space section provided in the market will accommodate 500 traders.
Ogidi who is the chairman of Ekwe-Ogidi Integrated Resources Ltd, the company handling the project, pledged to complete the project on schedule.
Speaking to newsmen, Mrakpor who was accompanied on the tour of the project site by top officials of the agency, expressed satisfaction with the execution of the project.
“I have been here before but I needed to meet with the man in charge, Ogidi, the developer. The last time we were here, he wasn’t here. We had a meeting in the office and we agreed to come back.
“Now, we have come back here and we have gone round. I think I am impressed, first with the speed of work and second with the quality of work”, she said.
She commended the contractors for following the design of the project which was given to them by the DSCTDA.
On the strategy to tackle the problem of street trading, Mrakpor said it will be taken care of by the structure that is being put in place at the new market.
“I believe that when you have a proper structure for people, they will do the proper thing. The Consultant Engineer has assured that they have taken care of that with open spaces for them to do their trading”, she said.
She frowned at the level of adherence to environmental standards at Ogbogonogo Market, noting that it is not just the problem of only the traders, but also that of the government.
” If I say don’t dump your refuse here, I should provide a place for you to dump it elsewhere. So, when government does the needful, I believe that they will do the needful”, she said.
