Mob Set Ablaze the Church Where 100-Level UNIBEN Student Was Raped, Killed

[dropcap]T[/dropcap]he Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) where a 100-level student of the Department of Microbiology, Faculty of Life Sciences of the University of Benin (UNIBEN), Miss Uwaila Vera Omozuwa, was reportedly gang-raped and murdered by unknown has been set ablaze by unidentified youths.

It was learnt that the mob mobilized to the Ikpoba Hill branch of the church where the incident occurred to burn down the building.  Sources confirmed the setting ablaze on Sunday.

However, the Management of University of Benin (UNIBEN), has confirmed the murder of the 22-year-old Uwa by yet-to-be identified persons.

The 100-Level student of the Department of Microbiology, Faculty of Life Sciences in the institution, was said to have gone to the church to read when her assailants pounced on her and hit her with a fire extinguisher after raping her.

News of her attack was first published in the newsletter of the Students Union Government (SUG), of the University.

According to a source, the church security officer had gone to collect keys to the church from its keeper when he was told that there was someone already in the church.

“He got to the church only to find the girl in critical condition and in a pool of blood with the blood-stained fire extinguisher near her.

“He ran back to inform the keeper and his wife, who went to the church to meet her lifeless.

“After careful observation, it was noticed that she moved her hand and she was rushed to the hospital.

“It was at there that she revealed she was reading alone that night when the unknown men came into the church, beat her, raped her and hit her head with a fire extinguisher. They left her for dead,” the source explained.

The Public Relations Officer of the SUG, Destiny Uanzekin, explained that the victim who was beaten to a pulp and taken for dead, later died at the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH), where she was taken to for treatment.

The University in a statement on Sunday, said it shares in the pain of the family of the victim.

The statement endorsed by the Public Relations Officer of UNIBEN, Dr. Benedicta Ehanire, noted that loosing a child at this time compounds the hardship brought about by the Coronavirus pandemic.

“We believe that at this time when the pandemic has created so much concern to everyone, loosing a child compounds the present situation.

“This administration is concerned about all students’ welfare and will always be. We believe that at this time when the pandemic has created so much concern to everyone, loosing a child compounds the present situation.

“We share in the pain of the family. It is expected of the management to take some action. In this regard, a delegation is being sent to commiserate with her family,” Ehanire said.

At the time of filing this report, the Public Relations Officer of the Nigeria police, Edo State Command, DSP Chidi Nwabuzor, could not be reached for comments.

A top police officer, who asked not to be named because he was not authorized to do so, told our correspondent that the Command has commenced investigation into the incident.

INSECURITY: “Operation Delta Hawk” will not Stop South-South Regional Security Outfit – DTSG

Delta State Commissioner for Information, Mr. Aniagwu Charles (2nd left); Director Governor’s Office Annex, Warri, Mr. Okujere Sunday (2nd right); Chief Press Secretary to the Governor. Mr. Olisa Ifeajika (left) and Chairman Correspondent Chapel ,(NUJ) Warri ,Comrade Okpomor Okies, (right ,)during a media interaction with Journalists at the Governor’s Office Annex, Warri on Monday June 1, 2020.

[dropcap]T[/dropcap]he Delta State Government said setting up “Operation Delta Hawk” would not stop the state from participating actively in the proposed security outfit for South-South under the auspices of Bayelsa, Rivers, Akwa-Ibom, Cross River, Edo and Delta (BRACED) Commission.

Commissioner for Information in the State, Mr Charles Aniagwu, made the clarification on Monday while addressing Journalists of Warri, Ughelli, Isoko and Sapele Correspondents Chapels in Warri.

Aniagwu noted that while “Operation Delta Hawk” would concentrate mainly on internal security of the state, regional security outfit would tackle security issues in the region. He also stated that the Governor Ifeanyi Okowa-led administration was committed to ensuring the security of lives and property in the state.

He assured that the government would continue to assist security agencies operating in the state to ensure a safer state as there would be effective intelligence-sharing among all security agencies in the state.

The Commmissioner who was accompanied by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr Olisa Ifeajika, also, urged journalists to enlighten the people about the effects of Covid-19, noting that the fight against the virus should be collective for it to be easily eliminated in the state.

“We are here, first to show our appreciation for the enormous support the government has enjoyed from you in showcasing our modest achievements to our people and those in the diaspora about the activities of government from 2015 till date.

“As it concerns security, as a government, we have gone beyond the establishment of regional security outfit to establish the Operation Delta Hawk in the state because, there are regional security threats and domestic security threats.”

“We are committed to the setting up of the regional security outfit by the BRACED Commission and we are also, empowering and equipping the security agencies, even when they are federal agencies because, they are protecting our people.”

“We are aware of the importance of effective security on the socio-economic development of the State and we are aware that due to the successes recorded with the entrepreneurship programmes of Governor Okowa’s administration, the state is relatively enjoying social security.”

“With security, the state has become number one oil producer in the country and more businesses are springing up with the multiplier benefits in employment of labour which has also, led to the National Bureau of Statistics placing us as second in standard of living in the country.”

On Covid-19, Aniagwu emphasised that it was real and that the media should enlighten the people more on the need to adopt government set protocols to curb the coronavirus.

He noted that Covid-19 had impacted a lot on the economy of the State with attendant loss in revenue and much money being spent in managing cases of the pandemic.

“As at today, we have 83 confirmed cases of Covid-19, with 17 discharged cases and eight deaths; we do not pray that we have more cases of Covid-19 and the media should assist us to know that Covid-19 is real and can kill.”

“Maintaining government set protocols are basic ways of checking its spread.”

“There is Covid-19 in Warri; there is Covid-19 in other parts of Delta; there are well equipped hospitals in the state and more health facilities are being set up and equipped not really because of Covid-19 but, as you are aware, as ongoing projects of the government before the advent of Covid-19.”

“The contributory health insurance policy is on and while we have more than 800, 000 Deltans who have enrolled, we desire full coverage for all Deltans so that our people who have health challenges should not suffer because they do not have immediate cash at hand.”

“Our Governor is passionate about the health of Deltans and is also committed to meeting with his electoral promises and we can see what is going on with the Warri/Uvwie and Environs Development Agency.”

“A lot of roads have been completed and a lot are still being constructed. Work has gone far on the Section A, Section C1 and C2 of the Ughelli/Asaba road project; the Warri Trans Ode-Itsekiri bridge has also reached advanced stage, with several others being constructed across the state.”

“We are on course and as we approach 2023, government will not be distracted and will continue to do those things it has promised to achieve.”

“Every of our statements is backed by verifiable facts and I appeal to you to always verify your facts before going to press,” the commissioner said.

On his part, the chief press secretary thanked the media for being responsible in their reportage, assuring that Okowa’s administration was open for people to verify their stories.

“We should show responsibility of balancing our story at all times. A journalist ought to know everything about everything and something about everything so that we will be better informed and equipped to inform others.”

“I want to thank you for the responsible approach to your practice of journalism and development of the state”, Ifeajika said.

Nnamdi Kanu Creating More Enemies For The Igbos With His Unguided Statements

Mazi Nnamdi Nwanekaenyi Kanu

[dropcap]I[/dropcap] visited the wall of Mama Annkio Briggs and saw the trash some misguided IPOB fellows released because she said she was Ijaw. So the Ijaw woman must be Igbo at gunpoint? Are these online warriors not worse than those they claim are holding them captive? All that venom because a mother said she is Ijaw and someone wants me to believe we are one? If the real Igbo don’t put that man called Nnamdi Kanu in his place, we will never be united. I reacted thus:

“Untrained people! This is what that man taught his followers. No respect for elders anymore. And who would want to share a nation with scoundrels like these? God forbid! Never!

“But what is this noise about? Who is Kanu? A radio boy that tells his followers about his imaginery “zoo”, but who still retains his Nigerian passport. How can a lunatic that teaches dummies how to hate be called a leader? Your Kanu is the leader of his stomach alone.

“The same hunchback that does not have a blueprint for the audio Biafra he talks about? A man that clandestinely took money from Atiku and Obi and called off the election boycott two days to election? Instead of you misguided fellows to look for a suitable asylum for Kanu, you are gate-crashing here. By the way, he said a document had been signed, sealed, and delivered. How far? So the document became a ghost after being signed, sealed, and delivered? A small fly that thinks himself a man.

“Has your Kanu worked before? I went close to the blabbermouth and realised his emptiness. First, the man lacks proper home training, and I can see that he is untraining a lot of you. This attitude you online beasts exhibit is a sign that you are going nowhere. Your Biafra is audio noise with nothing on ground.

“See how small rats like you are abusing someone that is old enough to mother you. Useless generation indeed! This is what the satanic oath taken at Arochukwu Ubini Ukpabi, which I exposed in one of my videos, has done to you all. Whoever told you nitwits that rascality begets freedom is a dolt indeed. To be honest with you people, the real problem you have is stark illiteracy. I will keep saying it: IPOB is a satanic cult. You guys are the real enemies to the entire region.

“I wonder why mama has not blocked these dirty things. I just wonder. And who even wants to be one with these cursed and useless things? Certainly not me! I will rather live in the sea than contemplate sharing a geographical space with sons and daughters of Jezebel. Perhaps some of you loose canons don’t know that it is better to be oppressed by a less ferocious foe than for one to be at the mercy of fetish, moral delinquents.

“We are proudly Ijaw. Whoever that does not like it should jump into the ocean. You have no right whatsoever to change our identity! If this is what you call freedom, then you are on a wild goose chase. As long as that man you call leader cannot call you all to order, he will continue to hide overseas. He should come to Nigeria and lead you guys to victory. The man took your money and promised you heaven on earth. He calls here ‘zoo’, but continues to use her passport. Who is fooling whom? He attacks Britain in his broadcast, but continues to spend your dues in hotels in London. Who is fooling whom?”

The Proactive Spirit of Work In Akpabio cannot Stop

Senator Godswill Akpabio

[dropcap]I[/dropcap]ndeed, times have changed, and the youth of this generation are learning and imbibing what may have easily been apostate to the youth of prior generations. In my recent article, The Pharaoh knows no Joseph in Forensic Audit, I quoted the legendary Malam Nuhu Ribadu, when he said, “when you fight corruption, corruption fights back”. Sadly, it is an unbelievable dawn of the apostate in our land.

These are times of blurry perspectives, when men can no longer differentiate between right and wrong. Our youth have gone commercial with a mind of negotiable commitment. They have no social or political persuasions, but are vacant and available for the crusade of corruption.

Upon the resumption of his second term, President Muhammadu Buhari ordered a forensic audit of the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC – and hell vulcanized. In apparent global glare, corruption is fighting back. In certain instances, corruption fights with an allusion that what is good and honourable is in fact questionable.

It was before a global audience that the Point-Blank News alleged that the NDDC IMC has within two months disbursed Two Hundred Billion Naira (N200,000,000,000), whereas, the NDDC had only received less than fifteen percent (15%) of the said figure. The sad things, is that these tales of putative disbursements are not only false and misleading, but are also exacerbating ignorance.

Furthermore, sequel to the special request by the Government of Ondo State, and the Lassa Fever outbreak in Edo State, upon which on the 16th of April 2019, the NDDC entered into a contract pursuant to the Public Procurement Act of 2007 with a company for the supplies of Lassa Fever Protective Kits – the contract value was N2,425,242,248.00.

The company fulfilled their contractual obligations through the NDDC process, but the NDDC before the expiration of the Prof Brambaifa administration could not fulfil her own obligation of prompt payment.

Like what has become the culture of State Governments, where contractual obligations are treated with levity, more so those of a different administration, the Prof Pondei IMC could have easily ignored the contract, and exposed the NDDC to the consequences of ensuing litigations. But seeing that extant requirements have been fully complied with, they chose to honour the contractual agreement between the NDDC and the said company, and released the payment to the company – and believe me, more payments would be released to as many companies that have legitimate cause to be paid.

Seeing that payment has legitimately been made, the merchants of lies congregated again, and without thorough investigation, they took to the media to sensationalise the fact of payment with an allusion of corruption.

Something apparently remarkable in the Buhari administration is the rule of law, and that is what has curtailed the arrogance of impunity.

In terms of the Public Procurement Act, payments that exceeds 80 days should attract interest – owing to this, the contract was fully paid for.

It is also noteworthy that owing to the need to establish the dawn of a responsive administrative protocol, that will aid the efforts of the Buhari administration to entrench a culture of responsibility, patriotism and respect, the Honourable Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Sen. Godswill Akpabio has shown determination and capacity to raise a standard against the advancement of corruption and vested interest.

It is therefore immensely tragic that in an effort to frustrate the forensic audit of the NDDC, a commendable Interim Management Committee is daily vilified through the instrumentation of ignorance, joblessness and hunger – the poverty of our youth has thus become a tool of coercion to sustain the reign of mediocrity and ignominy – believe me, the tide will turn!

What President Buhari saw in Sen. Akpabio before appointing him as Chairman of the Presidential Monitoring Committee, is his doggedness, resilience, tenacity and the persuasion to make society work – NDDC will work!

May I therefore advise the traducers of IMC and the Honourable Minister for Niger Delta Affairs, to deploy their steam and strength shunning out legislative Bills that enjoy the coloration of contemporary developmental innovations.

With the ferocious advancement of corruption, Sen. Godswill Obot Akpabio is, and represents the standard raised to preserve the integrity of our society – the forensic audit will be exhaustive.

Edo Crisis: how Oshiomole Pulls The Carpet From Obaseki’s Feet Ahead of APC Primary

[dropcap]I[/dropcap]t would be magic for Obaseki to come out victory at the APC party Primary Election which is to take place in June. He produced his own faction, put in new political appointees, and continued to push and then put up blames genuine party leaders in the APC.

I believe Obaseki ‘s agenda was to displace all the founder’s leaders of the APC so that he might start introducing himself toward his own folks and then have the government of his own.

If he succeeds, he will have maximum control over the state APC and its operations and plans for the future to come.

But oshiomole well enough made his case clear and he tries to stop them all during the Primary Primaries.

The National Party Chairman is responsible based on Party Constitution for forming a committee to conduct Party polls at the party.

Adams’s oshiomole will have effective control over how the Edo APC primary election will be conducted as well as the likely outcomes of the voting results.

The Oshiomole camp appears to have a very huge advantage because it will use this opportunity to thwart Obaseki’s bid.

The National Independent Election Commission has clearly specified that only the delegate of the Party can report the results of a vote.

Obaseki’s second term bid may likely come to an end in the APC primary, if he did not follow up and demand the guidance and support of the involved parties that he once overlooked.
