Esenwah Promotes Sportsmanship as Delta, Bayelsa Lawmakers Clash in Novelty Match

Hon. Frank Esenwah, Member representing Oshimili North Constituency in the Delta State House of Assembly, has reaffirmed his commitment to sports development and healthy living by participating in a novelty football match between the Delta and Bayelsa State Houses of Assembly.

Hon. Esenwah featured prominently as a defender for the Delta Assembly team in the friendly encounter, which was organised in celebration of the 50th birthday of renowned engineer and politician, Engr. Mathew Tonlagha. The match provided an atmosphere of camaraderie, unity and friendly rivalry among lawmakers from both states.

Despite a spirited performance and resilient defending by the Delta team, the encounter ended in a dramatic penalty shootout, with the Bayelsa State House of Assembly emerging victorious 5–3 after regulation time.

The event took place at the Mieka Event Centre, Mosheshe Estate, Effurun, Delta State, and attracted a large gathering of friends, family members and well-wishers who came to celebrate Engr. Tonlagha’s golden jubilee.

Hon. Esenwah’s active involvement in the match highlighted the growing role of sports as a tool for fostering unity, wellness and mutual understanding among political leaders, while also encouraging youths to embrace physical fitness and teamwork.
