There was an outpouring of grief and reverence on today( Sunday)as the remains of former Delta North Senator, Peter Onyelukachukwu Nwaoboshi, touched down at Asaba International Airport from Abuja.
A large crowd of party faithful, political allies, community leaders, supporters, and family members thronged the airport to receive the body of the late lawmaker, whose passing on December 19, 2025, sent shockwaves across Delta State and beyond.
From the early hours of the day, mourners clad mostly in black assembled at the airport premises, waiting quietly for the arrival of the aircraft conveying his remains. The mood was heavy with sorrow as traditional drummers, youth groups, women organizations, and political stakeholders gathered in solemn expectation. Security operatives were deployed to maintain order and manage the overwhelming turnout.
When the casket was carefully brought down from the aircraft, emotion rippled through the crowd. Tears flowed freely as prayers were said for the peaceful repose of his soul.
Tributes rang out in honour of a man many described as courageous, outspoken, and steadfast in his commitment to the growth and unity of Delta State.
As the cortege departed the airport in a slow procession, associates and community representatives reflected on his years of service in the National Assembly and his influence in advancing the cause of Anioma people. They praised his resilience, political strength, and dedication to grassroots development.
To his admirers, the late senator was not only a seasoned politician but also a leader who maintained close relationships with his constituents. His accessibility and willingness to stand by his people earned him lasting respect and loyalty. Members of his family, visibly touched by the show of solidarity, thanked sympathizers for standing with them in their time of grief.
The arrival of his remains marks the commencement of a series of burial activities arranged in his honour.
A Night of Tribute is scheduled for Tuesday, February 24, 2026, at the Dome Event Centre in Asaba, while his final interment will take place on February 27, 2026.
Sunday’s massive gathering underscored the profound impact Senator Nwaoboshi had on Oshimili, the Anioma nation, and Delta State at large. His departure has created a significant void in the political landscape, leaving many to reflect on his contributions and enduring legacy.
For countless supporters, he was more than a public office holder; he was a pillar of strength, a champion of fairness, and a voice for the marginalized. As Delta State prepares to lay him to rest, memories of his leadership and service will continue to resonate across the region he served so passionately.
