Residents of Ebu Community in Oshimili North Local Government Area of Delta State have renewed their appeal to both the Federal and Delta State Governments to urgently address the numerous infrastructural challenges facing the area, describing the community as one that has suffered years of neglect and isolation.
According to community stakeholders, Ebu has for many years remained cut off from major development projects, leaving many residents with the feeling that they have been abandoned and forgotten despite their contributions to the growth and development of Delta State.
The people, however, expressed gratitude to the Governor of Delta State, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, for taking a significant step towards reconnecting the community to the state’s development agenda through the recent award of the Ilo-Ebu/Palace Road project.
Community leaders noted that the road project has restored hope among residents who had long believed that government presence in the area was nonexistent.
While commending the governor’s intervention, they stressed that the most critical access route to the community remains the Ebu–Ezi-Ukala Road, which serves as the major gateway into Ebu. They lamented that the road has deteriorated over the years, making movement of people, agricultural produce and commercial activities extremely difficult.
They further pointed out that the only federal road linking Ebu to neighbouring Illah community is also in a deplorable condition, thereby worsening the transportation challenges faced by residents.
According to them, the poor state of roads has negatively impacted economic activities, healthcare access, education and overall social development in the community.
Ebu Community has endured years of hardship and isolation. Many residents feel abandoned and disconnected from the rest of the state due to the poor road network and lack of basic infrastructure.
However, the recent road project awarded by Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has rekindled hope among our people,a community source stated.
The residents called on both the Federal Government and Delta State Government to urgently rehabilitate the Ebu–Ezi-Ukala Road and other critical infrastructure within the community to improve connectivity and stimulate economic growth.
They expressed confidence that Governor Oborevwori’s administration would continue to extend development projects to the area, noting that the governor has already demonstrated a commitment to addressing the community’s long-standing challenges.
The people maintained that with sustained government intervention, Ebu can once again become a thriving community and contribute meaningfully to the socio-economic development of Delta State.
They urged relevant authorities not to relent in their efforts, emphasizing that the rehabilitation of key roads and provision of basic amenities would significantly improve the quality of life for residents and restore the community’s place on the development map of the state.
