By: Ike Philip AbiagomDistinguished Senator Peter Nwaoboshi was received by a mammoth crowd to a hero’s welcome on his return to Delta State Yesterday Sunday 20th June 2021, after Justice Chukwujekwu Aneke of the Federal High Court sitting in Lagos, discharged and acquitted his Three Hundred and Twenty Two million naira money laundering charge levelled against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).The judge held that the case of the prosecution collapsed when it failed to call vital witnesses and provide concrete evidence to prove and establish its allegations.
At Ibusa, his home state in Delta, it was celebration, as his loyalists and notable personalities trooped to Asaba Airport, to welcome home their hero and great Son Distinguished Senator Peter Nwaoboshi. They had massed at the airport as early as 9am, singing and dancing to give him a befitting heroic welcome.His friends and associates were over the moon.
His community rolled out the drums. There were eulogies here and there. In fact the celebration was sincere and affectionate.
Some of the personalities at the airport were former commissioners, party leaders from various local councils and several hundreds of youths who happily branded themselves “Nwaoboshi Boys”.
At about 10 am, news filtered in that Nwaoboshi was already airborne and on his way to Asaba. Every plane that landed was thought to be conveying the Senator; many loyalists were restrained by the airport personnel from running towards
Distinguished Senator Peter Nwaobosh, who arrived at the Asaba International Airport, Asaba, around 1.30 pm; was received by his political allies,families and Party chieftains in the state.
Party faithful also turned out in large numbers at Asaba to receive him, waiving the flag and chanting the party slogan. At Ibusa his home town, scores of residents lined up the major streets to catch a glimpse of the lawmaker. The senator, who represents Delta North, was chauffeured through the city in a motorcade enroute to Ibusa; Oshimili North Local Government Area.
Addressing newsmen at the airport, Distinguished Senator Peter Nwaoboshi expressed gratitude to God for the prevailing peace in Nigeria. He said that he felt good being home after his unlawful persecution by EFCC.
Some Party stalwarts like Hon. Tony Ejiofor and Chief Ambrose Elue -Dike also expressed their hope that Nwaoboshi, who they described as a detribalised Nigerian and a man who believe in equity,liked by many people across party lines, would give voice to the aspiration for the next governor of Delta State in 2023.
At Nwaoboshi’s residence in Ibusa, security operatives had hectic time trying to control the people, who thronged the compound in a bid to see him.
Nwaoboshi made a triumphant return to the state and was received by his teeming supporters.
