By:SPON MEDIAAs we mark Democracy Day today June 12, 2021, the Chairman,Senate Committee on Niger Delta Affairs and Senator representing Delta North District in the Nigeria Senate, Distinguished Senator Peter Nwaoboshi urged Nigerians to stand up for democracy.
As our uninterrupted democracy since 1999, is a proof of its overwhelming popularity and acceptance, as it has allowed the active participation of everyone in the society in choosing their leader. It is on this note that he wish to felicitate with his Excellencies, President Muhammadu Buhari GCFR, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and Vice President Yemi Osinbajo GCON on the occasion of Nigeria’s 22nd Democracy Day in this year 2021, for officially recognising June 12 as the nation’s Democracy Day in honour of the Late M.K.O. Abiola, who paid a steep price for this participatory government.
Senator Nwaoboshi also congratulate all Nigerians, home and abroad, for witnessing another milestone in the nation. Though it has been a mixed bag of emotions and perceptions for Nigerians through the period but Nigerians must appreciate the concerted efforts of the leadership of the country at turning our dwindling fortunes around.
According to him,we know that the government particularly recognizes and identifies with the hardship and security challenges we are going through as a nation presently, especially during this time of unfortunate situation brought on by the corona virus pandemic, but we must also understand that the value of gold is expressed after its purification by fire, we hope that everything comes back to normal in a short while; sincerely hoping that the government is not resting on its oars to see that the present hardship is ameliorated and we begin to experience a new wave of peace and prosperity across the nations.
We however beseech the government to intensify her effort in deepening democratic values towards ensuring that our
people are major stakeholders in the process of governance. He urged Nigerians to also remember others who have
sacrificed so much to bring democracy to Nigeria. It is better to honour these people not by reciting their names but by infusing the spirit and hope of democracy in our words and actions.
“By becoming better Democrats, we also become better Nigerians.
He wishes all Nigerians a meaningful and happy Democracy Day.
