Parents and Candidates in Delta State have cried out as the result of their Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) which was conducted at Federal College of Education( Technical) Asaba are yet to be released two weeks after other states have their results announced.
The Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) on Monday, April 29, 2024, announced the release of the examination results taken between Friday, 19 and Monday, 29 April. Over 1.9 million candidates sat the computer-based examination, which is used to rank candidates seeking admission into Nigerian tertiary institutions.
it is very worrisome that all the candidates who sat for the examination at the Federal College of Education( Technical) Asaba, a centre that was formally accredited by JAMB and who conducted their first ever JAMB examination at their newly established CBT centre have not received their results. Majority of the candidates complained that as far as they know there were no incidents of examination malpractices, that candidates wrote their examination peacefully within the JAMB stipulated time frame.
When the Grassroots Publishers visited JAMB office in Asaba, some of the JAMB officials said that they were no incidences of any examination malpractices recorded in the centre, adding that they don’t know why the entire centre result would be under investigation till now. Some of the JAMB officers interviewed , guessed the situation might be caused by systems malfunctioning from JAMB . According to one of the officer who pleaded anonymous said he thinks JAMB system must have malfunctioned and this could cause what is happening as a result of Hardware problem but JAMB on its part is claiming ignorance by declaring that the entire results is under investigation.
According to the Delta State Coordinator of JAMB in Asaba, Mrs Linda Ajanwachukwu, said that she was just hearing the information that the entire Federal College of Education( Technical) Asaba centre is yet to be released and has nothing tangible to say until she hears from Abuja, but she confirmed that the entire result of federal College of Education( Technical) Asaba, centre are under investigation.
The unanswered question here is- how can JAMB release the results of candidates that sat for the same examination in some centres owned by individuals but withheld the results of candidates that sat in a Federal Government Establishment like federal College of Education( Technical) Asaba the same JAMB test ran their CBT Centre before the JAMB examination?
The Community Newspaper Publishers in Nigeria are appealing to JAMB to release the results of these innocent children who sat for the examination at the Federal College of Education as promised.
