The Aniocha north zonal committee on BEDC, has commended the Local Governnent Chairman, Honourable Chuks Oseme, for facilitating the electrification of the communities in the Council Area.
The Chairman of the committee, Chief Udeh Okini, gave the commendation when he led other members on a thank you visit to the Council Boss, at the Local Government Secretariat in Issele – Uku.
Chief Okini recalled that virtually the entire Aniocha north was without electricity for close to a decade before Honourable Oseme assumed office as Chairman.
He said the intervention of the Council Chairman was heart warming, adding that his commitment to ensuring the restoration of electricity supply to the communities stood him out as a leader with the penchant to serve.
The BEDC zonal committee chairman noted that the socioeconomic life of the people of Aniocha north had been enhanced as business activities requiring electricity supply had grown significantly.
He stated that the communities would remain grateful to and supportive of the Oseme administration for changing the narrative of blackout in the Local Government Area.
Responding, Honourable Chuks Oseme said when he assumed duty in October 2014, only Issele – Azagba had BEDC supply, pointing out that he quickly moved to restore supply to the Local Government headquarters, Issele – Uku, followed by Onicha – Ugbo and Onicha -Uku, before extending to other communities.
Honourable Oseme said he saw the several years of blackout in over 90 percent of the communities as a challenge and vowed to change the narrative in view of the importance of electricity to the sociioeconomic life of the people.
While assuring the committee that more communities would be connected to the national grid before December, 2020, the Council Chairman thanked the people of Aniocha north for their understanding and patience while the blackout lasted and urged them to ensure they paid their electricity bills to enable the BEDC serve them better.
The committee members are drawn from Ukwu – Nzu, Idumuogo, Onicha – Uku, Obomkpa, Ugboba, Issele – Mkpitime, Ugbodu and Ezi.
